Abstract. Abgesehen von einem unreifen Araukarienzapfen, der 1927 von Gothan kurz beschrieben wurde, werden erstmalig Pflanzenreste aus den Jura-Kreide-Grenzschichten des Tendaguru bekannt gemacht. Verkieselte Hölzer vor allem aus kreidezeitlichen Schichtabschnitten repräsentieren die für den Jura üblichen Koniferengruppen wie Taxodiaceae, Cupressaceae und Taxaceae. Daneben konnten Ginkgoaceae nachgewiesen werden. Fusit ist nicht selten, meist aber sehr schlecht erhalten, bis auf ein Stück, das die Merkmale einer wahrscheinlich neuen Art von Glyptostroboxylon, einer Taxodiacee, zeigt. Naturmazerate von Kutikulen sind in den mittleren Saurier-Mergeln (tieferes Kimmeridge) häufig und können möglicherweise Ginkgophyten des Baiera/Sphenobaiera-Typs zugerechnet werden. Damit scheint die Flora von Tendaguru auf den ersten Blick von Gymnospermen extrem stark dominiert zu sein. Diese Dominanz ist wahrscheinlich auf taphonomische Prozesse und auf die selektive Probennahme während der Grabungsexpedition in den Jahren 1909–1913 zurückzuführen. So erscheinen neue Profilaufnahmen im Gelände unumgänglich, um ein differenzierteres Bild der jurassisch-kretazischen Flora des östlichen Afrika – die die Ernährungsgrundlage der meisten Dinosaurier vom Tendaguru bildete – zu entwickeln und phytogeographische Beziehungen genauer fassen zu können. Little is known about the Jurassic flora of East Africa. Therefore a preliminary account on plant remains from the well-known „Saurierlagerstätte” of Tendaguru is presented. Specimens of silicified wood represent typical conifers, such as Taxodiaceae, Cupressaceae and Taxaceae, but also demonstrate the presence of Ginkgoales. Fusite is very common, but mostly not well preserved, except for one specimen which shows the characteristics of possibly a new species of the Taxodiacean genus Glyptostroboxylon. Natural macerated cuticules are abundant in the „middle Saurier-Mergel” (Lower Kimmeridgian) and they at least in part seem to belong to Ginkgophytaleans of the Baiera/Sphenobaiera-group. At first glance the composition of the flora of Tendaguru seems to be biased towards a predominance of Gymnosperms. This is not only a result of taphonomical processes, but also of selective sampling in 1909–1913. Abstract. To derive physiological data of dinosaurs, it is necessary to determine the volume and the surface area of this animals. For this purpose, a detailed survey of reconstructed skeletons is required. The skeletons of three dinosaurs in the Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin and two skeletons in the Museum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris have been surveyed using stereo photogrammetry. Two of the Berlin skeletons were also surveyed with the close range laser scanners of the Institut für Navigation of the Universität Stuttgart. Both data acquisition techniques require a geodetic control network as a geometric reference system. The surveying methods used, together with results of mathematical approaches for the determination of the volume and surface of the animals are presented in this paper. Zur Herleitung physiologischer Daten der Dinosaurier ist es erforderlich, zunächst Volumen und Oberfläche ihres Körpers zu bestimmen. Dazu wurde eine detaillierte Vermessung rekonstruierter Skelette durchgeführt. Die Skelette dreier Saurier im Museum für Naturkunde in Berlin und zweier im Museum d'Histoire Naturelle in Paris wurden stereophotogrammetrisch vermessen. Bei zwei der Berliner Skelette wurden zusätzlich die Laserscanner des Instituts für Navigation der Universität Stuttgart eingesetzt. Beide Datenerfassungstechniken benötigen ein Paßpunktfeld als geometrisches Referenzsystem. AbstractA survey of gastro-intestinal helminth communities of Gallotia stehlini (Sauria: Lacertidae) from Gran Canaria island (Canary Archipelago, Spain), was conducted to determine the prevalence, abundance and species diversity of intestinal parasites in these lizards. Pharyngodonid nematodes were the most common intestinal helminths, three species being Gallotia specialists. Helminth infracommunities of G. stehlini were rich and appear to be closer to the interactive end of the continuum isolationist–interactive helminth communities, according to the high values of helminth diversity. It is the first case of a saurian reptile showing this kind of diverse helminth infracommunity, produced by a large size, a wide-ranging plant diet and exposure to helminths with direct life-cycles.

Abstract:
Ein durchgängig saurer pH-Wert im Stratum corneum ist ein wesentlicher Bestandteil des Schutzsystems der Haut, der eine feindliche Umgebung für die Besiedelung durch pathogene Mikroorganismen schafft. Doch diese Barriere kann bei gesunder und umso mehr bei geschädigter Haut durchbrochen werden. Mykosen, Windel-/Inkontinenz-assoziierte Dermatitis und Wundheilung sind Beispiele für Situationen, in denen durch veränderte Haut- oder Umgebungsbedingungen eine mikrobielle Infektion begünstigt wird. Pilze verfügen über ein komplexes System, mit dem sie den pH-Wert ihrer Umgebung erfassen, um durch entsprechende Stoffwechselreaktionen ihre Adhäsion, Vermehrung und Invasion zu gewährleisten, indem mikrobielle Metaboliten den pH-Wert der Haut weiter erhöhen, bis schließlich eine klinisch manifeste Infektion (Mykose) vorliegt. Menschen mit Diabetes, bei denen der pH-Wert der Haut in intertriginösen Bereichen erhöht ist, sind besonders anfällig für Candidosen. Bei Windeldermatitis und Inkontinenz-assoziierter Dermatitis ist die Ursache für den erhöhten pH-Wert der Haut und die Schädigung der Hautbarrierefunktion der Kontakt mit Urin und Fäzes, ob unter Okklusion oder nicht, und durch Wirts- und mikrobielle Enzyme und Metaboliten wird dieser Zustand aufrechterhalten. Das führt zur Dezimierung der schützenden residenten Mikroflora und ihrer Überwucherung durch Pilze, meist Candida albicans. Die Hautpflege mit leicht sauren Produkten kann helfen, diese Form von Dermatitis zu verhindern und zu behandeln. Der Prozess der Wundheilung ist eine komplexe Abfolge biologischer Ereignisse, die mit dem pH-Wert der Umgebung korrelieren, welcher die verschiedenen Phasen der Wundheilung beeinflusst. Der pH-Wert ist für die adäquate Aktivität von Immunzellen und wichtigen Enzymen ebenso bestimmend wie für die Biofilmbildung. Wenn der Heilungsprozess gestört wird, können Wunden chronisch werden und sind dann durch einen neutralen bis leicht alkalischen pH-Wert gekennzeichnet. Vor diesem Hintergrund könnten die Überwachung des pH-Wertes und die Herstellung eines sauren Milieus als Wundbehandlungsmaßnahme sinnvoll sein.

Ziel der vorliegenden Promotionsarbeit war die Entwicklung einer Methode zur Quantifizierung saurer Zentren auf Festkörperoberflächen mittels 15N-Festkörper-NMR-Spektroskopie von adsorbierten Pyridinmolekülen. Die 15N-Festkörper-NMR von adsorbiertem Pyridin ermöglicht die Unterscheidung verschiedener Arten von sauren Zentren, wie Lewis- und Brønsted-Zentren. Die Bestimmung der Art und der Konzentration auftretender saurer Zentren ist entscheidend, um die katalytische Aktivität fester Katalysatoren in einer Reaktion zu verstehen. Da 15N-NMR-Messungen zumeist zeitaufwendig sind, wurde in dieser Arbeit eine zeitoptimierte Messroutine entwickelt, die auf der Messung von 15N-Einzelpuls-Spektren mit kurzen Pulswiederholzeiten beruht. Um diese Spektren quantitativ auswerten zu können, müssen die detektierten NMR-Signale bezüglich ihrer T1-Relaxation korrigiert werden. Zudem treten in 15N-Einzelpuls-NMR-Spektren oft starke Störungen der Basislinie auf. Zur Unterdrückung dieser Störsignale wurde die EASY-Methode entwickelt, die auf der Messung von zwei schnell aufeinander folgenden Spektren basiert. Mittels dieser Methode können auftretende Störsignale in quantitativen 15N-NMR-Spektren unterdrückt werden. Die entwickelte zeitoptimierte Quantifizierungsmethode wurde an zwei Probenserien von festen Säuren getestet; zum einen an Aluminiumhydroxidfluoriden, als Vertreter von Verbindungen mit stark sauren Zentren, und zum anderen an hydroxylierten Magnesiumfluoriden, als Vertreter schwach saurer Verbindungen. Der Vergleich mit anderen quantitativen Methoden zeigte, dass die 15N-Festkörper-NMR-Spektroskopie von adsorbiertem Pyridin hervorragend für die Quantifizierung saurer Zentren geeignet ist und Einblicke in die katalytische Aktivität fester Katalysatoren ermöglicht.
The aim of the present dissertation was to develop a method for the quantification of acidic sites on solid surfaces by 15N solid-state NMR with pyridine as probe molecule. 15N NMR of adsorbed pyridine allows to distinguish different types of acidic sites like Lewis and Brønsted sites. The determination of the kind and concentrations of occurring acidic sites is crucial to understand the catalytic activity of a solid catalyst in a reaction.15N NMR measurements are often time-consuming. Hence, a time-optimized NMR quantification procedure was developed which uses 15N single pulse spectra with short pulse repetition delays. For quantitative analysis of these spectra, occurring signals were corrected according to their T1 relaxation. Furthermore, often strong baseline disturbances are observed in single pulse spectra. For the suppression of these disturbances, the EASY method was developed. The EASY method uses two successive scans to obtain quantitative NMR spectra, in which baseline disturbances are suppressed. The developed time-optimized method for the quantification of acidic sites was applied on two series of samples. One series of aluminum hydroxide fluorides as representatives of catalysts with strong acid sites and one series of hydroxylated magnesium fluorides as representatives of weak acidic catalysts. The comparison with other quantitative methods shows that 15N solid-state NMR of adsorbed pyridine is an excellent method for the quantification of acidic sites, because insights in the catalytic activity of a catalyst can be gained.

Abstract:
We describe a simple relaxation scheme for the efficient numerical resolution of compressible two-phase barotropic flow with and without cavitation on moving meshes. The algorithm uses a curvilinear-coordinate formulation of the relaxation model proposed by Saurel et al. (J. Comput. Phys. 228 (2009) 1678–1712) as the basis, and employs a wave-propagation based relaxed scheme to solve the model system on a mapped grid that is constructed by a conventional mesh-redistribution procedure for better solution adaptation. Sample numerical results in both one and two space dimensions are present that show the feasibility of the proposed method for practical problems.

Abstract:
The simulation of multiphase compressible flows through high pressure nozzles is presented. The study uses the developed numerical approach. There are many important engineering applications which are concerned with multiphase flows and convergent-divergent nozzles. This work presents the developed extension of the model and numerical algorithm based on the so called parent model earlier introduced by Saurel and Abgrall [Saurel, R. and Abgrall, R., A Multiphase Godunov Method for Compressible Multifluid and Multiphase Flows, J. Comput. Phys. 150 (1999), 425–467]. This model which consists of conservation laws for each phase complemented with the volume fraction evolution equation is modified by adding a source term to simulate area variation. The model is strictly hyperbolic and non-conservative due to the existence of non-conservative terms. The model is able to deal with compressible and incompressible flows. Moreover, it can deal with mixtures and pure fluids, where each fluid has its own pressure and velocity. The presence of velocity and pressure relaxation terms in the governing equations has made the velocity and pressure relaxation processes essential to tackle the boundary conditions at the interface. The interface separating phases is considered as a numerical diffusion zone in this method. The model is solved using an efficient Eulerian numerical method. A second order Godunov-type scheme with approximate Riemann solver is used to enable capturing of a physical interface by the resolution of the Riemann problem. The solution is obtained by splitting the hyperbolic part and source terms parts in the numerical algorithm. The source terms, including relaxation parts of the model, are tackled in succession using Strang splitting technique. The governing equations are solved at each computational cell using the same numerical algorithm for the whole domain including the interface. The main aim of this work has been to study different flow regimes with respect to pressure boundary conditions through the numerical solutions of single and multiphase flows. The performance of the programme has been verified via well established benchmark test problems for multiphase flows.

Für 13 000 der insgesamt 50 000 Hektaren Wald des Kantons Zürich wird von einer starken Bodenversauerung ausgegangen. Saure Böden verarmen an Nährstoffen, was das Pflanzenwachstum und die Bodenbiologie hemmt. Von 2013 bis 2022 liess der Kanton 4800 Hektaren der am stärksten betroffenen Flächen bodenkundlich kartieren. Mit der gewählten Kartiermethodik wurden Versauerung und Basensättigung bis 180 cm Bodentiefe erfasst. Nebst den klassischen Bodenkarten werden auch Produkte zu spezifischen Fragestellungen erarbeitet, zum Beispiel bezüglich Wasserhaushalt oder Verdichtungsempfindlichkeit. Die erhobenen Daten machen das Ausmass und Fortschreiten der Versauerung sichtbar. Sie helfen, Gegenmassnahmen zu ergreifen und weitere Herausforderungen, wie die Anpassung an den Klimawandel, zu bewältigen.

Abstract:
At present time there are different numerical schemes to solve the hyperbolic equations system for two-phase mixture. Those schemes, mainly, rely on a second order Godunov-type scheme (Godunov, 1969), with approximate Riemann solver for the resolution of conservation equations, and set of nonconservative equations. In this paper we applied the Discrete Equation Method (DEM) processed in Saurel & Abgrall (2003) for two-phase compressible mixtures calculation using exact Riemann solver (Leonov & Chudanov, 2008). Thanks to a deeper analysis of the model, a class of schemes, those are able to converge to the correct solution even when shock waves interact with volume fraction discontinuities, was proposed. Such analysis provides a more accurate estimate of closure terms and an accurate resolution method for the conservative fluxes as well as non-conservative terms even for situations involving discontinuous solutions. The relaxation parameters are determined also, so the resulting model is free of input parameters. The second order accuracy numerical scheme was obtained using an extension of the conventional MUSCL approach. Such method allows extending for multidimensions using splitting procedures. Some common set of 2D numerical tests, calculated with previous issues of two-phase model, is produced. Here a two-phase shock tube with tangential velocity discontinuity, the advection of a square gas bubble in uniform liquid flow, the shock wave interactions with density discontinuities are presented.

Abstract:
The direct numerical simulation of multiphase flow is a challenging research topic with various key applications. In the present work, a computational simulation of multi-phase compressible flow has been proposed for safety analysis of chemical reactors. The main objective of a pressure relief system is to prevent accidents occurring from over pressurisation of the reactor. We are particularly interested in understanding the phenomena associated with emergency pressure relief systems for batch-type reactors and storage vessels. Existence of multiphase flow is significantly influenced by the interface between the phases and the associated discontinuities across the phase. The approach, which builds on the method first introduced by Saurel and Abgrall [1], was developed for solving two-phase compressible flow problems. Each phase is separately described by conservation equations. The interactions between two phases appear in the basic equations as transfer terms across the interface. The equations are complemented by state equations for the two phases and by additional correlations for the right-hand side coupling terms. The method is able to deal with multiphase mixtures and interface problems between compressible fluids. The key difference compared to classical two-fluid model is the presence of separate pressures fields associated with phases and introduction of pressure and velocity relaxation procedures. The relaxation operators tackle the boundary conditions at the interface and consequently the model is valid for fluid mixtures, as well as for pure fluids. The numerical technique requires the system to be decomposed and involves a non-conservative hyperbolic solver, an instantaneous pressure relaxation procedure and source term operators. The solution is obtained by succession of integrators using a second-order accurate scheme. The ultimate goal of this research is to use the method for studying the venting problem in reactor systems after verifying its performance on a series of standardised test cases documented in the literature.
