Abstract This article deals with the complex relation between providence and descent in Neoplatonism, with particular reference to Proclus and especially his Commentary on the First Alcibiades. At least according to this work, descent is only a species of providence, because there can be providence without any descent. Whereas the gods (for instance the Henads) provide for our cosmos without descending to it, a large group of souls provide for our cosmos by descending to it. The former kind of providence is better than the latter, even if it is necessary that souls descend in order to give exi

The theoretical framework for the study is the epic theater tradition where Bertolt Brecht has an important influence. This article analyses the dynamic role of Justice in Dante’s Comedy. As the judge of his Otherworld, Dante establishes harsh punishments for the sinners in his Inferno. Moreover, he attacks their earthly fame in a way similar to what he experienced as an exile condemned to death by his Commune. Dante also defines the lighter penitences which torture the souls of his Purgatorio. Finally, Dante’s Justice shines alive in his Paradiso, first in the sky of Mercury and then, at its apotheosis, in the sky of Jupiter, when the eagle an-wers Dante the Pilgrim’s difficult questions about the salvation of pagan souls. As the eagle points out, even the blessed souls do not know the names of all the saved ones, and this remark should invite mortals to restrain from judging their peers. A similar message seems to be at the very heart of Aquinas’ speech in the sky of the Sun.

Abstract:
AbstractPoor municipal solid waste management continues to be a daunting issue for municipal authorities in Ghana. Major cities generate 2000 tonnes of mixed municipal waste per day, of which about 80% is collected and disposed of at open dump sites and/or at the limited number of landfills available. About 60% of this waste is organic. The Utilization of Organic Waste to Improve Agricultural Productivity (UOWIAP) project sought to co-create knowledge through a private-public engagement for the development of organic waste value chain opportunities to sustainably manage municipal organic waste and, at the same time, improve urban farm soils and increase food productivity in the Ga-West Municipal Assembly in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana. Through the project, identified key stakeholders in the waste and agricultural sectors, such as market traders, informal waste collectors, unemployed persons, farmers, landscapers, media, agricultural extension officers, Municipal Assembly officers and the general public, were engaged and made aware of sustainable organic waste management processes, including organic waste segregation from source, collection and compost production. Four formal markets were selected for the piloting of organic waste segregation from source. Interested persons were trained in organic waste collection, compost production and entrepreneurship. The lessons learned draw attention to the need for a massive effort to generate demand for compost use as this will invariably drive removal of organic waste from the unsorted waste stream.

Abstract:
We are drowning in information while starving for wisdom said the two-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize Edward Osborne Wilson. We are attached 24 hours to our “smart” phone that gets us closer to those who are far away and keeps us apart from those who are near, and we want to live in “smart” buildings and “smart” cities where systems are used and data can be gathered to save energy, create comfortable ambiances, regulate traffic, or deal with our waste products, but we surely need to reconsider what “Smart” living is all about. From the roman empire to the actual high-rise buildings, through the modern movement leaded by Le Corbusier, each time has used the technology available, but neither of the great master pieces of architecture and urbanism is remembered by the technology that made it possible but by Its ability to seduce the minds, hearts and souls of its habitants and the generations that came after them. It is essential to know that we truly need, to clarify WHY and WHAT FOR we do things before we solve or engage ourselves in HOW we make it happen.

This chapter examines informality and collegiality at PubliCare Hospital. In part, informality and collegiality at PubliCare seemed to result from organizational inertia—the same people had been working in the same ways for decades. However, this environment also seemed to reflect the care that the hospital delivered. Just as practitioners were forced to rely on informal ties and reciprocal obligations to take care of their patients, the same ties and obligations found their way into practitioners' relationships with one another. As one doctor put it, “You're in it together, and there's a camaraderie [at PubliCare].” The chapter considers the possible factors that contributed to PubliCare's egalitarianism, as well as the shared responsibility between its doctors, nurses, and managers. It also looks at Westside Health Corporation's alliance with Sierra Medical Foundation, its enlistment of entrepreneurs, and its decision to close PubliCare.

Abstract:
This chapter examines GroupCare Hospital's disciplinary program for its doctors. Just as GroupCare worked to convince patients that each member's well-being was consistent with the optimization of the membership's health, so it sought to convince physicians that their submission to the organization's disciplinary authority was in the interests both of patients and of physicians themselves and that an efficient, rationalized delivery of care was synonymous with health care quality. Doctors were encouraged to treat individuals while at the same time keeping an eye on the interests of the membership in the aggregate. The chapter first considers doctors' understandings of their work at GroupCare, with particular emphasis on the notion of autonomy, before discussing two technologies through which GroupCare sought to bring doctors into line with the prerogatives of the organization as a whole: electronic medical records and patient satisfaction surveys.

Abstract:
This chapter examines both the promise and paradox of care at PubliCare Hospital. On the one hand, practitioners' deep commitment to the provision of care as a right gave the facility a special character. On the other hand, these same commitments seemed to go hand in hand with a lack of role differentiation or organizational structure that lef the organization in a constant state of disarray and financial peril. The chapter shows that, among practitioners across the three hospitals in Las Lomas, those at PubliCare struggled most with how to reconcile a right to health care with care as a commodity to be sold. It also considers PubliCare Hospital's “socialized medicine” for desperate and despairing patients, what is unique about PubliCare physicians and nurses, and vocational commitment and creativity at the hospital. Finally, the chapter explains how the mission of health care at PubliCare seemed to be at odds with the market for care.
