Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this study was twofold. First, we wanted to increase knowledge about what is important to address within an organization, when formulating and implementing a corporate sustainability strategy. Second, we wanted to explore how the level of achievement of corporate sustainability influences the ability of an organization to integrate sustainability within its own organization. Method – We used an abductive approach within this study. In total, we conducted 20 interviews which we analysed through a thematic analysis. We also conducted two surveys. Findings - We have found six crucial aspects that will affect the formulation and implementation of a corporate sustainability strategy; conceptual confusion, motivation, action, cooperation, guidelines, and communication. We have also found that all dimensions of sustainability need to be understood and incorporated into the organization, in order for a corporate sustainability strategy to have impact. Theoretical and practical contributions - We have contributed to previous literature by connecting the five stages of achieving corporate sustainability with obstacles and solutions within the phases of strategy formulation and implementation. Further, we have provided a framework that can be useful to organizations when trying to achieve corporate sustainability. Limitation of the study - We have only analysed four out of almost 60 savings banks in Sweden, and the ones part of this study is also part of a sustainability project. It is therefore of essence that another more expansive study is performed that integrates more savings banks.

Saggi, Karan. "Who is the Customer? Identifying the Initial Adopters of Formal Savings. Field Evidence from Malawi." Scholarship @ Claremont, 2014. http://scholarship.claremont.edu/cmc_theses/957.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis examines household characteristics as determinants of formal savings accounts in rural Malawi. The main questions answered in this paper include the effects of household characteristics on the probability of having formal savings, the amounts saved in these accounts, and the probability of adopting formal savings. The central discussion aims to identify the initial adopters of formal savings accounts, using a marketing approach previously unapplied to this area of research. This paper also contributes to the dialogue of the household composition by considering three untried variables: number of adults, number of children, and literacy of all household members. Results show that households are most likely to adopt formal savings, when provided access, if they have a head who can read Chichewa, a functional cellphone, more adults who can read Chichewa, and are close to the bank service. The field evidence comes from research conducted over a two year period 2008-2010 in sampled regions of Central Malawi.

Eriksson, Jonas, and Elin Jönsson. "Effects of increased regulation on small banks' management control practices : A case study of a Swedish savings bank." Thesis, Uppsala universitet, Företagsekonomiska institutionen, 2019. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:uu:diva-391985.

Full text
Abstract:
This paper sets out to investigate the effects on small banks’ management control practices from increasing regulation following the 2008 financial crisis. The changes to banks’ management control practices may in turn have implications for banks’ competitive advantages and strategies. A qualitative case study of a Swedish savings bank was carried out, gathering data through six semi-structured interviews of representatives at different levels. Our findings indicate that the increased regulatory pressure has increased both the scope and scale of administrative as well as cybernetic controls. A relative change of focus, from business- to compliance-oriented was also detected in connection with the planning and cybernetic controls. The increase in mainly administrative controls and the resulting regulatory burden suggest that it may be difficult for small and decentralized banks to pursue their chosen strategy unless they are able to find alternative ways of dealing with this burden.

Lu, Chuyuan. "How Cutting the Cost of Using a Bank Affects Household’s Behavior of Remittance Transfers: Evidence From a Field Experiment in Rural Malawi." Scholarship @ Claremont, 2016. http://scholarship.claremont.edu/cmc_theses/1372.

Full text
Abstract:
Using a randomized experiment in rural Malawi, this paper finds that providing information on mobile bank buses’ services leads to a higher probability of adopting savings accounts in the treatment group. Households in the treated villages are 3.06 percentage points more likely to adopt savings accounts than households in the control group. Second, the information treatment leads to an increase of in the probability of households receiving remittances in the treated villages, as well as an increase in the amount of remittances received. In particular, the effect is strongest for households that lived at least three kilometers away from the trade centers, which suggests that the main cost of transferring remittance is the cost of traveling to a bank. Third, the 2SLS regression provides suggestive evidence that adopting savings accounts leads to an increase in households’ remittance activities. The 63.3 percentage points increase in the possibility of households receiving remittances after adopting savings accounts suggests that there previously exist high costs associated with the informal channels of transferring remittances.

Kordogly, Rima. "The classification patterns of bank financial ratios." Thesis, Loughborough University, 2010. https://dspace.lboro.ac.uk/2134/6815.

Full text
Abstract:
Financial ratios are key units of analysis in most quantitative financial research including bankruptcy prediction, performance and efficiency analysis, mergers and acquisitions, and credit ratings, amongst others. Since hundreds of ratios can be computed using available financial data and given the substantial overlap in information provided by many of these ratios, choosing amongst ratios has been a significant issue facing practitioners and researchers. An important contribution of the present thesis is to show that ratios can be arranged into groups where each group describes a separate financial aspect or dimension of a given firm or industry. Then by choosing representative ratios from each group, a small, yet comprehensive, set of ratios can be identified and used for further analysis. Whilst a substantial part of the financial ratio literature has focused on classifying financial ratios empirically and on assessing the stability of the ratio groups over different periods and industries, relatively little attention has been paid to the classifying of financial ratios of the banking sector. This study aims to explore the classification patterns of 56 financial ratios for banks of different type, size and age. Using data from the Uniform Bank Performance Report (UBPR), large samples of commercial, savings, and De Novo (newlychartered) commercial banks were obtained for the period between 2001 and 2005, inclusive. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) was performed on a yearly basis to classify the banks' ratios after applying the inverse sinh transformation to enhance the distributional properties of the data. The number of patterns were decided using Parallel Analysis. The study also uses various methods including visual comparison, correlation, congruency, and transformation analysis to assess the time series stability and cross-sectional similarity of the identified ratio patterns. The study identifies 13 or 14 ratio patterns for commercial banks and 10 or 11 ratio patterns for savings banks over the period on which the study is based. These patterns are generally stable over time; yet, some dissimilarity was found between the ratio patterns for the two types of banks – that is, the commercial and savings banks. A certain degree of dissimilarity was also found between the financial patterns for commercial banks belonging to different asset-size classes. Furthermore, four ratio patterns were consistently identified for the De Novo commercial banks in the first year of their operations. However, no evidence of convergence was found between the ratio patterns of the De Novo commercial banks and the ratio patterns of the incumbent (that is, long established) commercial banks. The findings of this study bring useful insights particularly to researchers who employ bank financial ratios in empirical analysis. Methodologically, this research pioneers the application of the inverse sinh transformation and parallel analysis in the area of the ratio classification literature. Also, it contributes to the use of transformation analysis as a factor comparison technique by deriving a significance test for the outputs of this analysis. Moreover, this is the only large scale study to be conducted on the classification patterns of bank financial ratios.

Magister Commercii - MCom
The minithesis argues that microfinance institutions help their clients by offering saving services, through which the clients will be able to get 'chunks of money' on a regular basis . These 'chunks of money' enable them to protect against emergency risks for it acts as a crisis-coping mechanism by building up the asset base in its physical, financial, human, and social sense. The accumulation of an asset base is not only critical in fighting risks ahead of time, but also enables poor clients to protect against losses afterwards . Thus the saving services provided by these institutions are essential in improving their clients' capacity to build up and manage their assets.

Abstract:
This report presents the history, the way of operation and the data about Banco Alimentar de Lisboa (BA Lisboa) as well as the development of a new program, running on Excel, to improve the vehicle routing during a collecting campaign, Campanha Saco. The work was performed under an internship at the institution. The available computer database and the activity reports of BA Lisboa from 1992 to 2014 were used for the statistical study. The vehicle routing problem was identified with a Heterogeneous Fleet Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows and additional constraints. The problem restricted to the most important constraints was characterized by a mixed integer linear programming model, which could be applied to determine a set of routes for the vehicles that collect products at the participating shops of the campaign. To solve this restricted problem, a non-exact algorithm was developed based on the savings algorithm of Clarke and Wright.

According to analysis at the account of school saving banks program of the Regional oversight in Ituiutaba city, tried to identify the main incoherence performed in the financial execution for school directors. In 2007, the public minister recommended that the school saving bank stay subject of the public hiring according to the federal law n 8.666/93. To service this recommendation the administrative office of the Minas Gerais state effected the action that realize in 2009, with the publication that state decree n 45.085/2009 and Resolution nº 1.346/2009, regulating the transfer, use and accounts of the financial resources passed to school saving bank program, with the creation of a procedure for public contraction similar the law 8.666/93. Although the school managers have abilities about legislation some incoherence are identified. That way, this work have a main target, through qualitative and quantitative research, check the principal incoherences and difficulties found by school directors and administrative office of Minas Gerais state. The plan of education action of this paper present propositions as the pursuit of human and technical resources for the financial execution pass as close to ideal as possible, allowing this way the optimization of spending these resources.

Abstract:
This thesis presents an attempt to find evidence of the ostrich effect and the disposition effect, as well as individual differences in self-assessed financial knowledge and its effect on these biases. The ostrich effect refers to the tendency to deliberately avoid information that might be negative, by "sticking your head in the sand". The disposition effect refers to people who hold on to losing assets too long while selling winning ones too early. The two effects were examined through a natural experiment which emerged from the stock market crash that occurred February 5th, 2018. The data was collected during an internship at Länsförsäkringar AB and originates from the usage of Länsförsäkringar's application Sparnavigatorn, where customers can manage their savings. The customers login activity and number of placed sales orders were observed. The data material is unique, and the study enabled a unique presentation of real life behaviour within a financial context and an analysis of whether individual differences affect behaviour. To our knowledge, neither the ostrich effect nor the disposition effect have earlier been examined through a large scale natural experiment. The results show no significant indication of the ostrich effect, but rather a relatively constant login activity not affected by the stock market crash. Furthermore, they show a contradictory reaction to what the disposition effect suggests, meaning the respondents place more sales orders during the stock market fall than at the time before and after. The results imply that further research needs to be done to either reject or confirm the existence of the ostrich effect and the disposition effect.

Federal Savings Bank (CEF - Caixa Econômica Federal) is a private law public company that executes the Brazilian public policies related to popular housing, within federal ambit, besides managing funds, administrating federal lotteries and also acting as the most important agent of the Federal Government in programs of income transfer and bank inclusion. Centenary company, acting throughout the national territory, has been demonstrating interest, since 2003, in being recognized as socially responsible. CEF’s relationship with social responsibility is complex, because, as a public company it has social obligations, as a Brazilian company it has social roles and as a savings bank it has social commitment, which are inherent to its juridical constitution. The present work intended to delimit how the social responsibility is inserted in this context and, specifically, how the social responsibility occurs in popular housing policies. The study of the popular housing’s social responsibility constitutes a possibility to improve the housing conditions of the Brazilian poor population, once the sector still presents deep-rooted characteristics of the quantitative view as the solution for the problem of housing deficit that, nowadays, reaches 7.2 million houses in the country. CEF's relationship with social responsibility is complex, because, as a public company it has social obligations, as a Brazilian company it has social roles and as a savings bank it has social commitment, which are inherent to its juridical constitution. The present work intended to delimit how the social responsibility is inserted in this context and, specifically, how the social responsibility occurs in popular housing policies. The study of the popular housing's social responsibility constitutes a possibility to improve the housing conditions of the Brazilian poor population, once the sector still presents deep-rooted characteristics of the quantitative view as the solution for the problem of housing deficit that, nowadays, reaches 7.2 million houses in the country. In order to evaluate CEF's social responsibility, it was selected the constant indicator in the Ethos Indicators of Social Responsibility, inspired in the AccontAbility 1000 standards, that deal with the dialogue between the parties affected by the institution's action which, in the present work, refers to the action of CEF in the execution of housing policies. One of the reasons for the selection of this indicator was the fact that the contemporary authors discern, in the entrepreneurial field, organizations that look for consensus through the institutionalization of dialogue and conversation, transcending the disjunctive way of thinking, in order to ...

Abstract:
Banks are special institutions because they are central to the functioning of economies and to economic growth. Their services represent a public good. Therefore, it is essential to keep them as far as possible from risk of bankruptcy. However, banking crises occur regularly and affect societies, often dramatically and over a long period, like the current subprime financial crisis which burst into 2007, and which consequences are still not very well perceived. To prevent the risk of bankruptcy and banking crisis, the national authorities of regulation have developed safety nets. These follow partially the international standards of regulation and banking supervision developed by the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision under the aegis of the Bank for International Settlements. However, recurrent crises occur and show us the limits of the banking regulation and, especially, indicate that the latter should be continually revised and adapted to the evolution of banking systems and financial innovations. One of the main goals is to make sure that banks are enough capitalized to face unexpected large losses. In order to achieve long-lasting financial stability, it is essential that banking supervisors can monitor efficiently banks. By doing so, the risk taken by banks would be sustainable and would not threaten either their own solvency or the whole banking system solvency. Finally, banks are supposed to be regulated by the market (market discipline) on the basis of information about their financial health which should be disclosed publicly. Along the policies of banking regulation and crisis risk prevention, one should not forget the role of the deposit insurers. Indeed, some economists and international authorities want to attribute more power over banks to deposit insurers. In our research, the empirical analysis, based on contemporary data, show the weakness of the actual regulation and banking supervision policies and the mistakes in banking regulation. Different features of the banking system that should be taken into account for an efficient implementation of regulation and banking supervision policies are also discussed in this work. Hence, we suggest that the type of financial institutions' activities should be better taken into account as it changes with the degree of risk exposure. We also find that it is important to consider the characteristics of the institutional environment in which banks evolve in order to develop a suitable and efficient supervision agency. To summarize, we study in this thesis a large range of economic and institutional determinants of the banking system, which are likely to affect the banking stability. By doing so, we are able to identify the regulation policies which would be the most likely to preserve the financial stability of banks

The theoretical part of the thesis introduces Austrian theory of business cycles and analyses equilibrium of savings and investments together with the transmission mechanism between savings, deposits, loans and investments. The practical part of the thesis explores business cycle and credit cycle. It analyses an excessive loan expansion of commercial banks together with a excessively expansive policy of central bank. The thesis deals with a procyclical action of commercial banks and contemporary tools of central bank with their limited effectiveness. Furthermore, the thesis analyses the possible adjustments of monetary policy with the emphasis on the macroprudential policy and its individual credit indicators. The end of the thesis deals with the method of credit rationing and with the imbalance between demand and supply at the credit market of non-financial corporations, which is modelled using the technique of disequilibrium model.

This thesis utilize branch-level data of the Shanghai Commercial and Savings Bank Research to analyze their technical efficiency and how the degree of digitalization affects technical efficiency of branches. Based on a panel dataset of 68 branch banks for the period 2013-2017, the first stage estimation by using data envelopment analysis (DEA) finds that the average technical efficiency value reaches only a moderate level of 0.510 and it shows a small variation across years. On the second stage, using the panel tobit model to implement empirical estimation, we confirm a positive relationship between mobile banking and technical efficiency, highlighting the importance of digitalization business for banks. Finally, the correlation analysis finds a low correlation between key performance indication (KPI) and technical efficient. It is because the KPI target designated by headquarter considers some specific targets and branch mission, thereby leading to this low correlation.

Increasing fuel prices have forced marine engineers and diesel engine manufacturers to look at methods of. reducing fuel consumption without a loss in output power. Engineers are always Investigating the following points: (1) decreasing the specific fuel consumption (2) enabling engines to use worse fuels ... (3) extending part load capability (4) using as much waste heat as possible. The sources of heat loss are investigated and the design of an efficient heat recovery system has been evaluated for Ideal temperature and heat conditions. after taking lnto consideration the various methods of heat recovery that are possible on the fishing trawler MFV Roxana Bank. Sources of heat loss identified by engine manufacturers are found primarily in engine cooling water and exhaust systems. These methods are investigated and extra heat transfer systems have become apparent. The use of exhaust gas boilers in diesel engine installations has become widespread as there is always a demand for heating services regardless of vessel type. The predominant form of heat transfer on the Roxana Bank is by forced convection and fluids must always remain in a turbulent state when passing through heat exchange apparatus. The introduction to heat exchangers shows that a high degree of turbulence in both primary and secondary fluids will the overall heat transfer coefficient and also reduce fouling. The design parameters of the heat recovery systems discussed as suitable for the Roxana Bank require the existing cooling water system to be scrapped and a fresh water system with one central cooler to be designed with a high temperature and a low temperature circuit together with a variable speed pump arrangement. should be fitted with such central cooling systems for a number of reasons. The central cooler system Is discussed In detail and it is shown that existing ships and/or new buildings The heat recovery system requires a certain degree of automation to prevent undercooling of the main engine systems and to maintain set Inlet and outlet temperatures to makers specifications. After attending the Roxana Bank on the 09/10 November 1989, the monitored operati~g parameters show a marked deviation to the Ideal temperatures, particularly In the cylinder cooling water circuit ... temperatures. The adverse effects these deviations have on the heat recovery and combined engine load fluctuations found on the Roxana Bank show that steady state heat recovery Is difficult to achieve on this particular type of vessel. Through calculation it Is shown that the envisaged steam turbine alternator is not practical due to the combination of low feed water inlet temperatures to the boiler and insufficient driving steam. The consequence of the reduction in electrical load on the power take off alternators have on the exhaust gas mass flow rates due to reduced engine load are also discussed. A brief mention is also made of organic fluid and thermal oil systems as a form heat recovery and possibilities for efficient heat transfer using these systems. ii Recommendations are made to Irvin and Johnson with regards to a centralised cooling system and the benefits that can be realised with regard to more efficient heat exchanger operations, but that heat recovery on the Roxana Bank from the proposed sources is not a viable proposition.

Shanghai Commercial & Savings Bank, Ltd. (SCSB) was established in 1914. SCSB, which is the only private bank from the Mainland, resumed its head office in Taiwan in June 1965. It is the privately held bank with longest history in the Taiwan banking industry. Steady and dependable are the management style of SCSB. Compared to the domestic banks in Taiwan, SCSB has relative low market shares of deposits and loans. Relatively, the asset size is also much smaller than those financial holding companies. Even though SCSB is not a public offering bank listed in the security exchange, it has the positive evaluation and the record of the top sale renovation in the Taiwan banking industry. From 2004 to 2007, the earnings per shares of SCSB are the highest among domestic banks. Even in 2007, SCSB earned the top ranking of the strong banks in Taiwan from the Asian Banker. SCSB survives from the political turbulences, business cycles, and peer competitions. When the trend of a bank becomes a financial holding company (FHC), SCSB still emphasizes on the specialized banking in business banking with sound service and financial innovation. Especially, it is good at foreign exchange services and the international banking across the Taiwan Strait. Because of its efficient operation and profitability, SCSB becomes one of the outperforming small and solid banks in Taiwan. The objectives of this study are to apply the banking theories and empirical results and identify the determinant factors of bank performance. Based on the significant results of the statistical analysis, this study evaluates the case of the performance of SCSB and provides the implications to the other banks in the domestic banking industry.

With the development of global financial liberalization, different types of financial commodities are presented constantly. To face the trend of financial liberalization, our government has made a lot of effort to improve financial efficiency. For this reason, fi-nancial institutions are allowed to establish as local private banks. However, these days the great growing number of financial institutions cause some problems, like profit gaining which is not as much as before and the growing rate of overdue repayment. The operating performances of the local banks are an issue highly concerned by the government authorities, the bank operators, depositors and the investors. The greatest difficulties that the local banking industry in Taiwan is facing are the random market price and the declining profits caused by the malicious competition among the homogeneous banks.Besides, after Taiwan was admitted into WTO, the financial environment has been forced to change and open, which has encouraged the international financial groups to enter the local financial market. Hence, the local banking industry is facing the crucial heavy competition from both foreign and domestic banks. Therefore, we must come up with the methods to stabilize and furthermore to promote our competitiveness. bank how to enhance their competitive ability, as a subject worthy of serious consideration. From 2004 to 2007, The Shanghai bank performed very well. ABSTRACT In response to assess feasibility on the analysis of program content, implementation process and outcomes, this paper proposes the main contribution of poverty alleviation program(PAP), a case study of “savings mutual empowerment- civil-bank”, hosted by Credit Union League of the Republic of China (CULROC). According to the assets-based welfare theory proposed by Dr. Michael Sherraden, American social welfare scholar, in 1991, he posed individual development account (IDA) to help disadvantaged people out of poverty. Under literature review, we found some evidence that the assessment and descriptive statistical analysis were essential, then domestic and foreign poverty alleviation models were proved successful. In empirical, we found PAP possesses not only reduction of manpower and financial resource but also benefit due to the long duration. PAP acquires confidence and motivation of participants due to asset accumulation, financial information, employment counseling, volunteer to accompany, micro loans and joining credit unions. PAP is successful and viable that brings up participants effectively on financial, human and social capital, while their ability, prospects for the future is full of hope, but also increased social networks. When it is hit by economic difficulties, they know to get loans from credit union to solve mishap of life, education, business and other issues. If poverty could be eliminated in society, then the state will be stable. We hope that Ministry of the Interior could integrate Ministry of Health and Welfare, municipalities and local governments to involve actively. As a demonstration, shorten the gap between rich and poor, people will be out of poverty. Key words:Credit Union League of the Republic of China, Poverty Alleviation, Asset-based, Micro Loans

Most governments in developing countries are unable to assist in the ever-growing housing needs of the informal sector, which constitutes the major part of most economies. The two reasons for this state of affairs are (i) the ever-shrinking resource base of countries, which makes the provision of subsidies impractical; and (ii) the fact that this sector is normally characterized by irregular incomes, which makes provision for loans by financial institutions difficult. This situation is particularly true for the Kingdom of Lesotho. Due to their unfortunate predicament, the informal sector has become innovative in addressing their housing needs. Various informal credit methods are widely employed to finance their houses, which are built progressively. This research therefore investigates the possibilities of linking the progressive housing investment to bank housing finance, using Maseru - Lesotho as the research focus. In order to achieve the above aim, a household survey was conducted coupled with structured interviews. The structured interviews were held with the commercial banks as well as the government housing authorities. These interviews were mainly to elicit their views about the option of Microfinance of housing. It was established that the respondents as well as the government authorities were not aware of this option. The banks were equally unaware of it and in addition to this, the perceived risk led to skepticism. As such these made Microfinance of housing impractical in the short-run. However it would be advisable to mobilize the formation of a revolving fund to which the commercial banks could on-lend, as a solution to the lack of housing finance.

According to Professor Muhammed Yunus, Nobel Prize winner in 2006 and the founder of the internationally acclaimed Grameen Bank in Bangladesh, microfinance is a viable solution to poverty alleviation among the poorest people residing in rural areas. Microfinance programs have led to poverty alleviation and empowerment of especially rural based women of developing societies, as they enable the poor to manage their finances and cope with unpredictable shocks and emergencies (Yunus, 2007). This research evaluated the developmental impact of microfinance on poverty alleviation and women empowerment. It assessed the impact of the existing microfinance programmes among the members of the three microfinance Savings and Credit Associations (SCAs) in the rural areas of the Caprivi region of Namibia. This study explored whether microfinance programs have helped their members to minimize financial vulnerability through diversification of income sources and accumulation of assets. The research employed both qualitative and quantitative research designs. Data were collected through different qualitative and quantitative techniques (in-depth individual interviews, faceto- face interviews, questionnaire and questionnaire schedule). Summary findings indicate that the SCAs has positively contributed to the socio-economic improvement in the living standards (contribution to livelihood – increased income, enhanced health, and food status), improved education/healthcare, women empowerment through micro enterprise training and skill development. However, SCAs are still struggling with challenges, such as lack of income, high default rates and unprofitable micro enterprises. This research makes several recommendations, including: MFIs should concentrate on women’s economic empowerment as their main aim, incentives should be provided to the MFIs to encourage savings and investment amongst the poor, and if microfinance is to be used as a promotional tool for credit and saving services for the poor, then the socio-economic consequences of micro-credit lending have to be re-investigated, especially when they negatively impact on poverty reduction.

Abstract:

Félix, Marín Tahinee M. "Modern architecture + art : an analysis of preservation strategies for installed art." Thesis, 2011. http://hdl.handle.net/2152/ETD-UT-2011-05-3568.

Abstract:
The purpose of this Master’s Report was to determine an appropriate preservation strategy for a particular set of buildings and their accompanying art from the Modern Architecture Movement. The research question was: What type of strategy is best suited for the preservation of installed art created for Modern style buildings? The study analyzed preservation strategies afforded to Modern art and architecture during rehabilitation of the buildings. The case studies are Modern Movement office or bank buildings with art commissioned for the space by the architects or owners. An analysis of the main case study’s preservation strategies looks at all the actions taken and proposed to protect, not only the material fabric of the art, but the primary interior space. The main case study was the American National Bank building in Austin, Texas designed by Kuehne, Brooks and Barr Architects with a mural by Seymour Fogel. The secondary case studies were: Harry Bertoia sculpture + Manufacturers Trust Building, New York City, Pietro Belluschi mural + Equitable Building, Portland, Oregon, Richard Lippold sculpture + Inland Steel Building, Chicago, and Roger Darricarrere dalle de verre + Columbia Savings Buildings, Los Angeles. After study and analysis, the preservation strategies were categorized in four categories: in situ conservation, removal, recreation/replacement and demolition/destruction. It was concluded that there is not a general approach for these projects, and each should be analyzed through various factors (Design Intent, Intrinsic Value, Collaboration and Context) to determine the appropriate intervention.
