Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to develop a model of bank advisor/customer relationships and customer saving behavior. Design/methodology/approach – The research is a theoretical review and model development of savings behavior and bank advisor/customer relationships. The review is used for the development of a model of bank advisor/customer relationships, and their effect on savings behavior. Findings – Findings are a model that distinguishes three kinds of exchange (relational, interimistic, and transaction) in between bank advisor and customer. The three kinds of exchange then influence customer savings behavior. Research limitations/implications – The implications of this research is that it points to that relationship marketing theory can be used in the analysis of how bank advisors influence customer savings behavior. Practical implications – For regulators and financial services firms, these findings point to how the role of bank advisors for consumer savings behavior can be analyzed. This is important, as much policy work presumes that advisors influence customer savings behavior, but the knowledge base for that presumption needs to be better understood. Social implications – The paper contributes toward a better understanding of the social exchange between bank employees and customers as regards savings products. Originality/value – This paper is original because it includes many theoretical research fields, and because it connects the bank advisor and customer relationship with the customer's savings behavior.

Abstract:
The study analyzed reciprocal effects of base rate of the central bank, CD, CP, interest rates for bank deposits, bank loan interest, interest rate for savings bank deposits and savings bank loan interest. In particular, the study attempted to find an interest rate which affects interest rates of savings banks. If these variables affected interest rate decisions by savings banks, it would be possible to predict that movements of these variables in the future may affect changes of interest rates as well. In the impulse reaction function, CD rate and CP rate took the highest impact to the savings bank’s deposit interest and loan rate. In forecast error variance decomposition analysis, it was fond that the deposit interest and loan rate of the savings bank reciprocally affected each other. Then, CD rate and CP rate had the highest explanation power. Consequently, factors that affect the savings’ bank’s decision on interest rates were a bank’s deposit interest, CP and RP interest rate and RP rate which is the benchmark interest rate. The important point is that RP rate as the benchmark interest rate takes an important role because it becomes the base for influenced variables.

Abstract:
The article discusses the different reasons for very enthusiastic philanthropic work of the Carniolan Savings Bank. During the second half of the 19th century the social issue appeared in a changed form as an urgent question of improving the financial position of an increased number of poorer strata of the society. The management of the Carniolan Savings Bank was aware that the financial resources they collected could help with overcoming hardship and contribute to the general good. The board of the Carniolan Savings Bank donated a part of its net income for charity purposes every year. The paper deals with the period from 1844, the year of the proclamation of the Savings bank regulation, which allowed the use of surpluses for charitable and non-profit purposes. The period under scrutiny ends with the year 1908, when the Carniolan Savings Bank changed its policy of philanthropic activities because of the consequences that it faced after the “run” and boycott of the Slovenian part of the population in the Carniola province.

Abstract:
There are three motives a person to save funds through savings in the Conventional Bank: security, plans and investment. Implementation of interest system in Conventional banks is a very fundamental constraint for a Muslim to invest his funds in the bank. Because in the view of the scholars of the flower system is identical with the usury (riba) that is forbidden in Islam. It turns out long before the birth of money storage system in conventional bank interest, in classical fiqh literature known the concept and theory of al wadiah and mudharabah which is substantially no differences from the savings and investment savings offered by conventional banks. This paper discusses the theory, concepts and implementation of al wadiah as non-interest investment savings applied in sharia bank in the perspective of shariah economic law, by looking at case examples of the saving products of Bank Syariah Bukopin (BSB). It was found that all investment contracts in savings products offered by BSB were in accordance with the principles of shariah; as outlined in the Qur'an and Sunnah as the basis of Shariah, as well as Law Number 21 Year 2008 and Law no. 10 year 1998, Bank Indonesia Regulation (Peraturan Bank Indonesia [PBI]), Compilation of Islamic Economic Law (Kompilasi Hukum Ekonomi Syariah [KHES]) and Fatwa of National Sharia Board (Dewan Syariah Indonesia [DSN]) Indonesian Council of Ulama (Majelis Ulama Indonesia [MUI])

Abstract:
The first school savings bank came into existence in Ghent, Belgium. It was founded by Francis Laurent in 1866. In Poland, the concept of saiving began to spread in the period of the National Education Commission, which recommended that children “practice thriftiness”. Since the beginning of the 19th century, local attempts to establish school savings banks were undertaken in the Polish lands that had been divided in the partitions. The propagation of thrift developed on a broader scale only after regaining independence, especially after the economic reforms of 1924. The Ministry of Education recommended that teachers introduce various forms of thrift: organising school savings banks, talks and lectures about saving, celebration of Savings Day and promoting the idea in society as a whole. The interest in the propagation of thrift in education was expressed by the central and local education authorities by issuing various types of legal acts on this subject. The intensive development of school savings banks started in 1925. Until 1935, these organisations operated on cooperative principles. After 1935 they were held under the auspices of the Postal Savings Bank, which was dissolved in 1947. The state-owned Common Savings Bank was created in its place, whose supervision of school savings banks continues to this day and is a statutory duty of the bank. Thus, the interwar experience in the field of organising school savings banks was continued after the Second World War and is still being implemented in the contemporary educational reality.

Abstract:
This paper summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion regarding the behavioral aspects of customer choice of state or foreign bank banking services. The purpose of the study is to study and analyze the behavior of customers when choosing a bank category (state or foreign) to obtain banking services. In order to test the scientific hypotheses, we conducted a survey of clients and bank managers of 12 banks (6 states and 6 foreign). In Algeria, a separate range of financial transactions (in particular, housing lending and investment programs) is entrusted to state-owned banks only, so clients in Algeria do not leave state-owned banks, even if they also start servicing higher-quality foreign banks. The processing of the survey results showed that the key factors that determine the priorities in choosing clients of a state or foreign bank are: the reputation of the bank; tips from friends or acquaintances advice of a bank employee; accident; bank advertising (for foreign banks only). In addition, the choice of the bank by a client in Algeria is influenced by behavioral and institutional factors such as religion, traditions, and social customs. The survey found that just over half of the customers were satisfied with the services of state-owned banks, while 85% were completely satisfied with new banking technologies, ease of use and time savings among foreign bank clients. The main factors that determine the level of customer satisfaction with banking services are ease of knowing cash and payment for services; highly efficient organization and simplicity of credit mechanisms; adherence to the principles of Islamic finance by some foreign banks (alternative finance, where loans and savings do not imply interest rates); more advanced banking services (mainly for foreign banks). The banking system of the Kingdom of Serbia, and later of the Kingdom of Yugoslavia, was principally characterized by numerous small, local money bureaus. These bureaus were founded with the purpose of providing the necessary capital and profit to their shareholders, as well as offering the ground for the capital placement in times of economic depression. The Market Loan and Savings Bank of Vranje was established in the time of a great financial crisis and is thus an example of the money bureau of the aforementioned nature. Moreover, it is the evidence of how the Great Depression affected the private banking system in the Kingdom of Yugoslavia. We report on a field experiment using several methods for collecting deposits made in formal bank accounts in rural areas in Sri Lanka. We find that only frequent, face-to-face collection increases aggregate household savings. Collection involving community lock boxes increases balances at the collecting bank, but not overall household savings. Only community box collection appears to have the possibility of being financially viable. The various collection methods allow us to unbundle the role of frequency, salience and habit formation in deposit decisions. We find that frequency and salience affect the number of transactions, but not the level of savings.

In this paper an attempt has been made to analyse the progress of SHG-Bank linkage programme in India during the period between 2007-2008 and 2019-2020. The progress of SHG-Bank linkage programme has been analyzed in terms growth of savings of SHGs with banks and growth of bank loans disbursed to SHGs. For this purpose the data required for the study were collected from the official publication of National Bank for Agricultural and Rural Development (NABARD), different published reports, journals and existing available literature. This study employed simple statistical tools such as percentage analysis and averages to analyze the data. The result of the study shows that there is significant raise in the amount of savings of SHGs with banking sector and amount of loans disbursed to SHGs, During this study period. However the agency-wise analyses of savings of SHGs and loans disbursed to SHGs show that the Commercial banks lead in getting savings of SHGs and loans disbursed to them followed by Regional Rural Banks and Co-operative banks. Not with standing the remarkable progress, geographically there has been skewed development of SHG-Bank linkage programme in India. There is wide regional disparity in the spread of SHGs, savings of SHGs with banks and loans disbursed to SHGs under this programme. The outreach of this programme is spectacular in Southern region while North, West and Eastern regions are lagging behind. In view of the large outreach, predominant position and the possible benefits to the poor, it is very important to see the benefits of this programme to reach across all sections of the society and regions. So far the SHG movement is India is mostly South-Centric and it is yet to take off the real sense in other regions of India.

Abstract:
A bank is a financial institution whose existence depends absolutely on the trust of its customers who entrust their savings funds. Banks are very concerned that the trust of the public, who have and who will save their funds, are well-maintained, considering that the bank is part of the financial system and payment system. Bank secrecy is very important because banks need the trust of the people who keep their money in the bank. The customer only entrusts his money to the bank or makes use of the bank's services if the bank provides a guarantee that the bank's knowledge of deposits and the state of their assets will not be misused. The legal relationship between the bank and the depository customer starts from the signing of a written agreement (contractual relationship) between the bank and the customer which contains the rights and obligations for each party. As for the form of agreement for depositing funds between the customer and the bank, it is called a deposit agreement (Article 1319 Civil Code). In a deposit agreement, the bank sets certain general requirements in a deposit account or savings account, among others, the recipient of the deposit (bank) can use the depositors' money and at a certain time the bank will provide interest. Other provisions that can be used as the basis of relations between banks and depositors are Proxy Giving. Depositors give their power to banks when signing deposit accounts or savings accounts or bank accounts. This agreement becomes a law or law for both parties (Article 1338 of the Civil Code). As a manifestation of the bank's responsibility for depositing customers, banks must pay attention to the 4 (four) pillars of the relationship between depositors and banks, namely: Prudence, Health, Bank Secrets and Trust

Abstract:
In this paper, we analyze the impact of savings withdrawals on a bank’s capital holdings under Basel III capital regulation. We examine the interplay between savings withdrawals and the investment strategies of a bank, by extending the classical mean–variance paradigm to investigate the bankers optimal investment strategy. We solve this via an optimization problem under a mean–variance paradigm, subject to a quadratic optimization function which incorporates a running penalization cost alongside the terminal condition. By solving the Hamilton–Jacobi–Bellman (HJB) equation, we derive the closed-form expressions for the value function as well as the banker’s optimal investment strategies. Our study provides a novel insight into the way banks allocate their capital holdings by showing that in the presence of savings withdrawals, banks will increase their risk-free asset holdings to hedge against the forthcoming deposit withdrawals whilst facing short-selling constraints. Moreover, we show that if the savings depositors of the bank are more stock-active, an economic expansion will imply a greater reduction in bank savings. As a result, the banker will reduce his/her loan portfolio and will depend on high stock returns with short-selling constraints to conform to Basel III capital regulation.

Abstract:
In the Domar model, based on the Keynesian multiplier theory, investment generates savings. Therefore, savings cannot fund investments, at least ex ante. Investments have first to be financed by bank credit, hence the question on their repayment. In this article, we suppose that investments are financed by bank credits issued on several periods, as it typically takes years for firms to reimburse their investment debt. What we then obtain is that, in order to avoid an overproduction crisis, the rate of capital accumulation has to gradually rise throughout a growth phase.
