Abstract:
Increasing computational demand of simulations motivates the use of parallel computing systems. At the same time, this parallelism poses challenges to application developers. The Message Passing Interface (MPI) is a de-facto standard for distributed memory programming in high performance computing. However, its use also enables complex parallel programing errors such as races, communication errors, and deadlocks. Automatic tools can assist application developers in the detection and removal of such errors. This thesis considers tools that detect such errors during an application run and advanc

Abstract:
Pollution is linked to many health conditions; thus, it is important to monitor the air quality of where someone lives. This can be autonomously done with IoT solutions. In this thesis, we create a solution for monitoring air quality with a scalable IoT infrastructure. This solution (CO2.io) is designed to be an “off-the-shelf” software and hardware solution for quick remote and distributed setup. The implemented system was programmed using Node.js. The application is containerized and is deployed in a Docker Swarm using Amazon EC2 service to gain good scalability support. A MySQL NDB database

Efforts towards standardization of Vehicular Communication Systems (VCSs) have been conclusive on the use of Vehicular Public-Key Infrastructure (VPKI) for the establishment of trust among network participants. Employing VPKI in Vehicular Communication (VC) guarantees the integrity and authenticity of Cooperative Awareness Messages (CAMs) and Decentralized Environmental Notification Messages (DENMs). It also offers a level of privacy for vehicles as VPKI provides them with a set of non-linkable short-lived certificates, called pseudonyms, which are used to sign outgoing messages by vehicles wh

Monitoring data-intensive scientific infrastructures in real-time such as jobs, data transfers, and hardware failures is vital for efficient operation. Due to the high volume and velocity of events that are produced, traditional methods are no longer optimal. Several techniques, as well as enabling architectures, are available to support the Big Data issue. In this respect, this thesis complements existing survey work by contributing an extensive literature review of both traditional and emerging Big Data architecture. These devices range from tiny wearables to larger interconnected industrial devices, and are used for very different purposes, e.g., building automation, physical access control, or healthcare. As IoT is penetrating in every domain of our life, and in particular in safety and privacy critical domains such as automotive or healthcare, security and privacy become extremely important concerns. Awareness of vehicles’ surrounding conditions is important in today’s intelligent transportation system. A wide range of effort has been put in to deploy Vehicular Communication (VC) systems to make driving conditions safer and more efficient. Vehicles are aware of their surroundings with the help of authenticated safety beacons in VC systems. Since vehicles act according to the information conveyed by such beacons, verification of beacons plays an important role in becoming aware of and predicting the status of the sender vehicle.
