Abstract:
While distributed memory systems have shaped the field of distributed systems for decades, the demand for many-core shared memory resources is increasing. Symmetric Multiprocessor Systems (SMPs) have become increasingly important recently among a wide array of disciplines, ranging from Bioinformatics to astrophysics, and beyond. With the increase in big data computing, the size and scope of traditional commodity server systems is often outpaced. While some big data applications can be mapped to distributed memory systems found through many cluster and cloud technologies today, this effort repr

Abstract:
Jazz chord-scale theory identifies scales that can be used to embellish a particular type of chord. It has fostered the notion that chords can generate their own local scales. This idea as well as many of the scale types that jazz chord-scale theory identifies are essentially foreign to classical music theory, which instead tends to focus on the scales that represent relatively global key areas--that is, the scales that accommodate entire chord successions. Both the jazz and classical perspectives can coexist, and each can inform and supplement the other. This study explores implications of

When Lilium longiflorum bulb scales we removed and placed in a moist environment, new bulbs ("scalets") arise from the base of the original scale, providing a practical means of clonal propagation. Thesis (MSc)--University of Stellenbosch, 2002.<br>ENGLISH ABSTRACT: Specialized skin scales (generation glands) and undifferentiated skin scales were compared in three species of cordylid lizard, viz. Cordy/us cordy/us, Pseudocordy/us micro/epidotus and P. capensis. These skin derivatives were histologically examined and compared, using data existing in literature (Maderson, 1966; 1967; 1968a) with similar structures in gekkonids. Histological descriptions of cordylid skin structure were the same as those shown for gekkonids. Three types of generation glands were identified in cordylid

Abstract:

Abstract:
There is an increase in the consideration of ecosystem services (ES) within the planning, policy, and research sectors. The increase in sectors working with ES is leading to an increase in scale mismatches, where ecosystem services are being mismanaged, leading to problems. Using a combination of methods these scale issues were investigated. A systematic review of both scientific and grey literature was undertaken which analysed 112 documents and led to a survey of 72 subjects who were working with ES across different sectors, and finally 19 in-depth interviews were undertaken, in order to und
