Abstract:
We developed a new microbeam scanning system for efficient local area analyses and also for micro fabrication. The system accomplished a pattern-to-pattern spacing procedure, in which the microbeam was just scanned with a corresponding pattern of the analyzing sample area or of the fabrication form. Between the patterns, the beam was moved with the fastest responsive scanning speed. In order to set patterns of the analyzing sample in the scanning system, an image of the sample was previously obtained with a scanning transmission ion microscopy (STIM). As the result, analyzing time was greatly

Certain radar applications may require maintaining the difference pattern slope and twin beam shape, while main null is scanning in the presence of mutual coupling. It is also desirable in monopulse radar applications to be able to generate acceptable sum and difference patterns using single simplified feed structure. This paper focuses on these problems and provides a solution based on Intelligent z-Plane Boundary Condition-Particle Swarm Optimiser (IzBC-PSO) to compensate for the difference pattern degradation while scanning a small coupled array (N=8). In second case, a simplified feed is p

Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is a metal additive manufacturing (AM) technique that has a high throughput and has seen a potential interest for replacing currently available subtractive manufacturing techniques. Contrary to other metal AM machines, WAAM rigs can be built using existing welding plants and using welding wire as feedstock, thus, making it a cheap and viable manufacturing technique for a number of industries, such as the maritime industry. However, the effects of AM parameters, such as the scanning pattern and energy, on the residual stress and deformation, are still not

Abstract:
A transient three-dimensional simulation program was developed to study the effects of scanning speed, scanning pattern, blood perfusion, transducer choice and multiple tilted transducers with overlapping foci during scanned focussed ultrasound hyperthermia. The results showed that (1) the temperature fluctuations increase linearly with decreasing scanning speed, (2) the temperature fluctuations are a weak, increasingly exponential function of the blood perfusion rate, and (3) that the largest temperature fluctuation is always located at the acoustical focal depth on the scan path independentl

This dissertation proposes novel solutions for important drawbacks of antenna arrays. One of the main contributions of the presented work is size reduction and nulling performance improvement of traditionally large anti-jam global positioning system (GPS) arrays using miniature antennas and electrically small resonators emulating an engineered metamaterial. Specifically, a miniaturized coupled double loop (CDL) dual band antenna is first introduced as a small antenna element of the compact GPS array. The loops that are capacitively coupled using lumped element capacitor, and employ metallic pi
