Abstract:
This thesis presents a musculoskeletal model that predicts the muscle and joint forces in the upper limb during an extreme activity. The scapula is an important link in the kinematic and dynamic chain of the upper limb; with its muscles acting as the primary stabilisers to the inherently unstable glenohumeral joint, thus allowing effective transmission of load through the kinematic chain of the shoulder. This bone is poorly represented in musculoskeletal models during these activities. Large soft-‐tissue artefacts are a key reason for this. The shoulder is particularly prone to injury in over

This approach requires an accurate selection of corresponding features, usually landmarks, from the bi-planar X-ray images. Abstract:
Measuring the three-dimensional movement of the scapula provides vital information in the analysis and treatment of shoulder clinical disorders and contributes to our understanding of its complex kinematics. However, the thick layer of skin overlying the scapular region means that all skin-based techniques inaccurately determine the scapular kinematics. The scapula locator makes use of a palpation technique in order to reduce the problem of skin deformation. At present, the scapula locator is the most accurate noninvasive method of measuring scapular movements, but to date the method has only

Abstract:
Shoulder pain is associated with abnormal movement of the scapula. Quantitative measurement and classification of abnormal scapular kinematics, however, is difficult due to the gliding nature of the scapula beneath the skin surface, and large variation in data. The aims of this study were to determine the validity and reliability of the acromion marker cluster (AMC) in measuring scapular kinematics during the arm lowering phase, to measure poor control of the scapula in people with a history of shoulder pain and a group with shoulder impingement, and objectively classify poor control scapular

En este contexto, la función principal del hombro ha sido proporcionar la movilidad necesaria para alcanzar los soportes irregulares, manteniendo al mismo tiempo una estabilización adecuada de la articulación glenohumeral. The role rehabilitation plays in the management of patients with lateral epicondylalgia (LE) remains elusive secondary to high recurrence rates. Addressing scapular muscle deficits may be important in the rehabilitation of patients with LE. However, it is unknown if scapular muscle impairments exist in a working population of patients with LE. The purpose of this dissertation was to assess scapular muscle strength and endurance in a working population of patients with LE. Clinical scapular muscle assessment tools are limited in their ability to isolate specific muscles. Rehabilitative ultrasou
