Abstract:
This paper considers the single-machine scheduling problem, where job parameters are uncertain and the performance measure is to maximize the weighted number of just-in-time jobs, defined as jobs completed exactly on their due dates. Uncertainty is described through a finite set of well-defined scenarios. The criteria for this environment is to minimize the maximum deviation from optimality for all scenarios. We present the computational complexity results for several cases.

Abstract:
Bidding decision is not only a science, an art, but also a game. The more intense the competition, the more important the game. In practice, there is the possibility of collaboration between bidders and even hidden competing behaviors such as bidding rigging. In this study, the optimized low-price bid winning method was discussed, and the characteristics and application of the bidding game under the copetition scenarios were studied. The results show the following: (1) Under the copetition scenario, the rational bidding behavior of bidders will deviate according to the different information advantages, and there is a game of making bidding strategy decisions according to the competitive scenario. (2) There is a close functional relationship between the winning bid result and the evaluation elimination factor, the number of bidders, and the number of bidders who operate bidding rigging. (3) Based on the quotation strategy matrix modeling, it enables the quantitative decision making bid amount, offer score, and deviation risk. This study enriches the theory of quota decision in copetition scenarios and is enlightening for similar business behavior game decisions.

Abstract:
Aircraft power system is a complex system consisting of the power generation system, the power management and distribution system, and the power consumption system, which accounts for the aircraft's major fuel consumption and emissions. This paper proposes a scenario-based comprehensive power requirement analysis and system architecture methodology in order to alleviate the risk of systems over-design and discoordination caused by traditional bottom-up load collection and individual system design. Starting from the operation scenario, system functions are identified and corresponding physical architecture and power loads are analysed. Given the complexity of operation scenarios and aircraft power system, model-based system engineering methodology is applied to the top-down aircraft power system architecture design. SysML tool is used to carry out to analyse the aircraft power system architecture during taxi scenario, which provides great advantages on model tracing and reuse.

Abstract:
The rapid growth population phenomenon has causes excessive land demand for residential and economic activity. Moreover, the rapid urbanization also increases the contribution of land constrains. Land conversion from conservation to cultivation uses affects the surface runoff volume that leads to flooding. According to these problems, it is necessary to take steps to control flood in Kedurus Watershed. One of the proper urban development concept is the Water Sensitive City (WSC). The protection against flood in WSC can be accomplished with the land use arrangement that can reduces the surface runoff. The aim of this research is to determine the proper land use scenario to reduce floods in Kedurus Watershed. In order to reach this aim, the writer uses sensitivity analysis to identify the proper land use scenario to be applied in the watershed and SWAT to select the best scenario. The efforts to reduce flood through the land use scenario (scenario 2) could reduce the flood volume by 44,320.32 m3 or 8.11% of the total volume of flood in the area. The average reduction of flood volume in each sub basins is 12,92% and the highest number of reduction is 65,67% (sub basin 22).

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this study is to show how scenario-based forecasting can give a better understanding of future commercial potential of a newly developed technology. This study aims to bridge the existing gaps in technology commercialization process for various projects supported under innovation support schemes in India. Design/methodology/approach The scope of this study is to understand the commercial potential and future deployment prospect of “sun direct hot water system (SDHWS)”. Scenarios have been drawn using “cone of plausibility” method and the commercial potential forecasted under different scenarios using arithmetic and linear regression forecasting tool. Findings The SDHWS is an incremental innovation but has great potential to overcome major constraints and barriers associated with existing solar water heater (SWH) technologies. Among the three scenarios drawn, plausible scenario is most likely to happen in future. The SDHWS is technically and economically capable of replacing existing conventional systems of SWHs. Research limitations/implications The study is limited to developing alternate qualitative scenarios and, further, an attempt to quantify the commercial potential. Various assumptions have been taken because of non-availability of past data on SDHWS technology. Originality/value Scenario-based forecasting to understand commercial potential for innovative technology is a new approach. The adoption of such insight and analysis would brighten the chance of SDHWS technology to reach the market.

Abstract:
Knowledge models in radiotherapy capture the relation between patient anatomy and dosimetry to provide treatment planning guidance. When treatment schemes evolve, existing models struggle to predict accurately. We propose a case-based reasoning framework designed to handle novel anatomies that are of same type but vary beyond original training samples. A total of 105 pelvic intensity-modulated radiotherapy cases were analyzed. Eighty cases were prostate cases while the other 25 were prostate-plus-lymph-node cases. We simulated 4 scenarios: Scarce scenario, Semiscarce scenario, Semiample scenario, and Ample scenario. For the Scarce scenario, a multiple stepwise regression model was trained using 85 cases (80 prostate, 5 prostate-plus-lymph-node). The proposed workflow started with evaluating the feature novelty of new cases against 5 training prostate-plus-lymph-node cases using leverage statistic. The case database was composed of a 5-case dose atlas. Case-based dose prediction was compared against the regression model prediction using sum of squared residual. Mean sum of squared residual of case-based and regression predictions for the bladder of 13 identified outliers were 0.174 ± 0.166 and 0.459 ± 0.508, respectively ( P = .0326). For the rectum, the respective mean sum of squared residuals were 0.103 ± 0.120 and 0.150 ± 0.171 for case-based and regression prediction ( P = .1972). By retaining novel cases, under the Ample scenario, significant statistical improvement was observed over the Scarce scenario ( P = .0398) for the bladder model. We expect that the incorporation of case-based reasoning that judiciously applies appropriate predictive models could improve overall prediction accuracy and robustness in clinical practice.

Abstract:
Teaching programs based on contemporary learning-teaching approaches have been regulated since the 2005-2006 academic year in Turkey. Nevertheless, the researches conducted in Turkey suggested that teachers mostly use traditional teaching-learning approaches in their classroom activities. Therefore, this research aimed at enhancing the students’ academic achievement through the use of argumentation and scenario based learning approaches among the contemporary teaching-learning approaches in order to guide teachers. Experimental design with pre-test and post-test control group was used in the present research. This research was conducted with 45 fourth grade primary school students. The research was conducted with two experimental groups and one control group. Activities related to argumentation-based teaching were administered to the experimental group 1, activities with scenario-based learning method for the experimental group 2, and those of the existing curriculum for the control group. The research deployed an academic achievement test based on the unit of "Let’s Solve the Riddle of Our Body". Independent samples t-test, one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and covariance analysis (ANCOVA) were used during data analysis. Research results revealed that the academic achievement of the students was significantly influenced by the activities related to argumentation-based teaching and scenario-based learning method.

Abstract:
e13111 Background: Lung cancer diagnosis now involves routine use of biomarker testing to identify the driver mutations. We conducted a survey of 111 medical oncologists across India to understand the current pattern of EGFR mutation testing at their respective centres. Methods: Medical oncologists from 111 institutes across India were interviewed face to face using a structured questionnaire. They were divided into two groups - Group 1 with in-house EGFR testing and Group 2 who send samples to central/commercial labs. Answers of the two groups were analysed to see the prevailing patterns of EGFR mutation testing and differences between the groups if any. Results: In India, 95% of medical oncologists recommend testing for EGFR mutations in patients with adenocarcinoma histology. 40% would also recommend testing in squamous histology. 80% of medical oncologists request for biomarker testing at the time of primary biopsy. From the time of biopsy, the average time duration to get EGFR test results is 18 days. In centres with in-house testing (Group 1), results are available in 10 days. 96% of the medical oncologists from Group 1 centres request for factoring additional sample for biomarker testing compared to only 69% from Group 2. 69% of medical oncologists in Group 1 centres would prefer to wait for the test results before initiating treatment compared to 46% in Group 2. EGFR TKIs are used in 60% of patients with diagnosed EGFR mutation in the first line. For patients in whom chemotherapy is initiated while waiting for test results, 50% of medical oncologists prefer completing 4-6 cycles before switching to targeted therapy. At the time of progression, rebiopsy is possible in 25% of the patients. Rapid disease progression and poor PS were the two most common reasons given for the low rebiopsy rates. Conclusions: Application of molecular testing is ‎improving. Yield can be improved by training of multidisciplinary team involved in tumor biopsy. There is scope and need to reduce the turnaround time. This will reduce the current scenario of commencing chemotherapy while waiting for test results. Increasing application of liquid biopsy will help in initial diagnosis as well as at relapse, especially for patients with poor PS or difficult access to tumor site.

Abstract:
Emergent behavior is an important issue in distributed systems' design. Detecting and removing emergent behavior during the design phase will lead to huge savings in deployment costs of such systems. An effective approach for the design of distributed systems is to describe system requirements using scenarios. A scenario, commonly known as a message sequence chart or a sequence diagram, is a temporal sequence of messages sent between system components. However, scenario-based specifications are prone to subtle deficiencies with respect to analysis and validation known as incompleteness and partial description. In this research, a method for detecting emergent behavior of scenario-based specification is proposed. The method is demonstrated and verified using a mine-sweeping robot as an example. Furthermore it has been demonstrated in this paper that scenario-based specifications can be used in agile software development and that the proposed methodologies in this research can be utilized effectively in agile approaches.

Purpose This study aims to formulate exploratory scenarios of the textile industry in Iran based on MICMAC and soft operational research methods. Design/methodology/approach In this study, to formulate plausible scenarios, literature reviews and external experts’ opinions of this field have been gathered through the Delphi approach and uncertainty questionnaires. After the utilization of the most important uncertainties, the textile industry’s plausible scenarios have been mapped with the help of experts through co-thinking workshops. Results show that two factors, including the business atmosphere and membership in World Trade Organization (WTO), play a more important role than the other factors. These two factors were considered for the formulation of the scenario. To formulate plausible scenarios, soft systems methodology, which is a kind of soft operational research methods, is applied. Findings Based on the results, four scenarios are presented. These scenarios include the Elysium scenario, Hades scenario, Tatarus scenario and Sisyphus scenario. In the Elysium scenario, the business atmosphere has improved and Iran has been granted membership of the WTO. In Hades scenario, Iran has joined the WTO, but due to the government’s weakness and inactivity and key decision-makers, the required preparations have not been made. In the Tatarus scenario, Iran is not a WTO member and the business atmosphere is disastrous. In the Sisyphus scenario, the government takes reasonable actions toward a better business environment. Originality/value Formulating plausible scenarios of the textile industry is an excellent contribution to the key beneficiaries and actors of this industry so they can present flexible preparation-based programs in the face of circumstances. Future study of the textile industry familiarizes the actors and beneficiaries of this industry with the procedures and the driving forces that influence this industry’s future and it will ascertain various scenarios for the actors of this field.

In addition, students stated they had more confidence in what to do when a negative outcome is communicated to the patient. They also expressed greater appreciation for the importance of institutional policies that guide patient care. Research is ongoing to determine whether the simulation lab experience correlates to improved student performance in the actual clinical setting. This research occurred in a simulation lab but could be replicated by using high-fidelity sonography simulators and assigning an actor to interact with student learners.

Abstract:
Fast-maturing flexible display technology, explored in a military application using this envisioning method, both reveals potential utility and raises questions for further study. Flexible displays (FDs) are thin, lightweight, flexible displays that use little power and can be easily stored, carried, or mounted on clothing. Diverse applications are being imagined for the emerging FD technology, but it will take more than imagination to develop applications that have high utility and functionality. In this article we focus on military applications of wearable FD technology and demonstrate a scenario-based envisioning research method that provides a realistic context for usability analysis. Via this method, participants were encouraged to generate ideas for the uses of wearable FDs and to identify possible problems and misapplications. Results show that FDs will take on different functionalities depending on the task context and the responsibilities of the user.

Abstract:
Healthcare scenarios are human-machine systems which involve diverse linked products. Based on analysis of key elements of healthcare scenario under overall digitalization, the paper proposes a new definition of modern healthcare scenario from a system perspective and summarizes three dimensions of interactive relations in modern healthcare scenarios. According to data from field interview and case study, the paper thoroughly discusses forms and implementations of the interactive relations in healthcare scenarios from three aspects, i.e. information interaction, human-machine interaction and space interaction. We think the in-depth study of interactive relations in modern healthcare scenario can aid in the requirement elicitation process of medical product design and intra-hospital communication technology development.

Abstract:
Research often ranges from incremental innovations of existing approaches to the development of novel methodologies. The current study seeks to combine both paradigms through consideration of a legacy hydro system. Stretched along the border between Canada and the US and regulated by a 1950 treaty, the Niagara River currently provides almost 5000 MW of renewable power. This paper develops a HEC-ResSim representation of the existing reservoir (power) system and uses this model to explore a variety of possible future scenarios. These possibilities will ultimately include considering the sensitivity of the system to climate change, reducing tourist flows, and exploring using additional storage to augment operational flows, although the current paper particularly details the scenario involving increased power diversion by somewhat relaxing treaty restrictions. Such an arrangement is shown to potentially increase monthly hydro discharges by 16% relative to the current baseline, and thus to permit an additional 1050 GWh of annual generation on the Canadian side alone. This preliminary exploratory study simply evaluates the potential hydro benefits by assessing the interplay between various system constraints if treaty provisions were ever to be reconsidered, and thus sets the stage for considering a variety of other scenarios.

Abstract:
Earthquake is a small probability of unexpected events. Most of the emergency management personals did not experience the earthquake. They may cause flaws in the post-earthquake emergency response process, if they do not take part in earthquake emergency exercise. Traditional tabletop exercise, however, cannot provide a relatively realistic earthquake disaster scenes and vivid emergency background, so they need the virtual simulation exercises and drills for emergency management personnel to provide a real disaster site that is very similar to a drill. This paper presents system structure, function composition, scenario editing process of virtual reality simulation of earthquake emergency exercise and discusses a scenario editor based on OSG. Scenario Editor of earthquake emergency can control the drill and quickly rebuild the drill scene and improve emergency management personnel to design urban 3D scenes and earthquake and secondary disasters events.

Abstract:

Clinical research and drug development is evolving continuously resulting in pharma companies looking for newer ways of getting drugs faster to the market. Managing clinical costs and coping with major regulatory hurdles poses challenges of finding ways to do more with a small budget. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) guidance for industry on “risk based approach to monitoring”, TransCelerate Biopharma INCs “risk based monitoring methodology position paper” provides guidance, recommendations and methodologies for conducting risk based monitoring (RBM). However, limited experience in the implementation of these methodologies poses questions on practical challenges that pharmaceutical companies are either already facing or will face during the implementation of these recommendations. This paper describes the evolution of RBM strategies and discusses the complexities that clinical research organizations (CROs) and service providers could face while implementing RBM. This paper also suggests how pharma companies may have to adapt their organization to this new model by highlighting changes in roles and responsibilities of relevant stakeholders including site investigators, site monitors and lead data managers. A few suggestions for ensuring smooth change management have also been proposed for each stakeholder.

Abstract:
Green spaces have a positive influence on human well-being. Therefore, an accurate evaluation of public green space provision is crucial for administrations to achieve decent urban environmental quality for all. Whereas inequalities in green space access have been studied in relation to income, the relation between neighbourhood affluence and remediation difficulty remains insufficiently investigated. A methodology is proposed for co-creating scenarios for green space development through green space proximity modelling. For Brussels, a detailed analysis of potential interventions allows for classification according to relative investment scales. This resulted in three scenarios of increasing ambition. Results of scenario modelling are combined with socio-economic data to analyse the relation between average income and green space proximity. The analysis confirms the generally accepted hypothesis that non-affluent neighbourhoods are on average underserved. The proposed scenarios reveal that the possibility of reaching a very high standard in green space proximity throughout the study area if authorities would be willing to allocate budgets for green space development that go beyond the regular construction costs of urban green spaces, and that the types of interventions require a higher financial investment per area of realised green space in non-affluent neighbourhoods.

Abstract:
Purpose – Research focussed on the scenario method has increasingly criticized the widely used intuitive logics (IL) approach to scenario development and introduced enhanced approaches, such as the backwards logic method (BLM) or the antifragile (AF) method, to overcome the restrictions associated with the IL approach. The BLM and the AF method have contributed to the further development of the scenario method by integrating backward reasoning and by increasing the method’s effectiveness for decision making. The purpose of this paper is to build on these ideas and introduce strategy scenarios as a further enhancement of the scenario method that directly applies the benefits of scenario-based planning to strategy development in corporations. Design/methodology/approach – The authors argue that the existing methodologies do not fully integrate the benefits of scenario-based planning for strategic decision making and strategy development, as they mostly aim to develop macroenvironmental scenarios and test organizations’ existing strategies. Findings – The paper suggests that changing the scope of scenario planning from environmental developments to the organization’s strategies themselves can further strengthen the method’s effectiveness for decision making. Originality/value – The strategy scenario approach provides an enhanced approach to more comprehensively utilize the benefits of scenario-based reasoning for strategic decision making.
