Abstract:
School magazines are a medium for students to practice and develop their journalistic potential. A student must have qualified journalistic knowledge to produce good writing in a magazine. For this reason, training and assistance in magazine writing are necessary so that school magazines continue to exist and are of higher quality. One school that has a school magazine is MA Al-Muayyad Surakarta. Journalism training is essential at this school because many students have not developed their writings properly. The methods used in this training are interviews, presentations, discussions, and article writing training. This training was held in April 2018. This training activity provides good benefits, especially for the training participants, because before the training was held, most of the magazine's contents took sources from the internet. However, after the training, the students' writing became original, the language used got better, and the rubric content more diverse.

Abstract:
This study examined the meaning of education by analyzing the cover, table of contents, and contents of the first issue of an educational magazine founded in the 1990s from the liberation of 1945 to the 1990s. The main contents of the study are as follows. First, the main theme of educational magazines launched during the liberation period in 1945 and the 1950s was ‘reconstruction and common sense of education’. Second, educational magazines launched in the 1960s and 1970s focused on 'enlightenment and popularization of education'. Third, educational magazines launched in the 1980s often focused on 'reformation and specialization of education'. Fourth, the educational magazine, launched in the 1990s, focused on nurturing talented people needed by our society and improving school education, and aimed at 'diversification and advancement of education'. These results suggest that today's educational magazines should not only play the role of information magazines that reflect the flow of education, but also focus on the production of high-quality articles tailored to readers.

Abstract:
The paper aims to describe the literacy movement initiated by Indonesian Government. Since there is disproportional distribution of literacy exposures between the pupils who are living in urban areas and the pupils who are living in rural areas, it needs important roles of teachers and school managements mainly for those at rural areas in developing and improving reading habits for their pupils. The wall magazines can be used as affordable media in grasping pupils’ reading interest at primary level. The appropriate procedures in using wall magazines at primary schools can support divergent purposes to make the pupils get interested in reading. The use of wall magazines is also intended to create reading environment for the pupils in order to learn and apply the literacy movement program at early level. The appropriate use of strategies in using wall magazine is planned to train the pupils learning how to read and think critically about the textual materials that are provided by using attractive and appropriate visual mode. The study would be conducted as case-study in describing the procedures and the use of wall magazine at SDN Pamolokan 3 at Sumenep as a part of Literacy Movement program at school (which known as Gerakan Literasi Sekolah or GLS). The data of this study would be qualitative data in the forms of questionnaires results and interviews.

Abstract:
Globally the print media has made strides in publishing content that is appealing to readers. The Kenyan mainstream newspapers have established colourful and sensational pullouts to attract youthful audience. Among the most popular free pullout entertainment magazines is the ‘Pulse’ which is accessed by the youth in secondary schools and may have a behavioural impact on them. This paper analysed the frequency of content with elements of negative behaviour published in the Pulse that would likely motivate secondary school students to engage in practices such as sexual activities, alcohol consumption and night partying which may lead to teenage pregnancies, sexually transmitted diseases, school dropouts, prostitution and drug abuse. A sample size of 46 magazines were purposively drawn from a study population of 52 weekly Pulse magazines running from January to December 2018. The revelation that the magazine published a high frequency of content with elements of negative behaviour was of concern due to the likelihood that the youth would engage in risky behaviour if given a chance leading to outcomes detrimental to their health and academic performance. The study will assist education policy makers, the media, and academicians in establishing ethical policies during the development of print media content.

Abstract:
The Content and Educational objectives of the Interwar School Magazines Based on the Example of the Girls’ Schools Periodicals Today and Tomorrow (Dziś i Jutro) and Youthful Flight (Młodzieńczy Lot) The magazines of pre-war female schools provide knowledge about the development of a new community – girls attending secondary education, which was formed as a result of numerous education reforms after 1918. The article presents the results of a content analysis of two periodicals edited by middle school students from the 1920s and 1930s. The purpose of the research was to identify the most popular issues discussed in Today and Tomorrow (Dziś i Jutro) and Youthful Flight (Młodzieńczy Lot) periodicals. It revealed the directions and goals of the pre-war education of school girls and the educational program in the interwar period. From the author’s point of view, it can be considered a universal model for the formula of pre-war school magazines, edited by girls, which significantly supplemented the rich offer of magazines for young people of the interwar period.

Suwatcharapinun, Sant. "Spaces of male prostitution : tactics, performativity and gay identities in streets, Go-Go bars and magazines in contemporary Bangkok, Thailand." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2005. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/10720/.

Full text
Abstract:
This research explores the spatial practices of male prostitutes meeting gay male clients in various urban environments in Bangkok, Thailand. The research focuses on the male prostitutes’ spatial practices in three meeting places: the streets around Saranrom park, the gay go-go bars in Surawong’s Boys’ Town, and the representations of space in local gay newsletters. Examining the male prostitutes’ spatial practices through ‘tactics’, this research suggests that male prostitutes use the meeting places differently as ways of responding to the ‘strategies’ of gay male clients. This research also suggests that the tactics of male prostitutes can be examined by exploring the relationship between spatial practices and subjectivities. By exploring how specific performative acts constitute male prostitutes’ subjectivities, this research suggests that male prostitutes ‘perform’ homosexuality. This thesis draws upon Judith Butler’s performativity theory as a discursive mode of constituting subjects and Michel de Certeau’s theoretical discussion, specifically spatial practices of ‘strategies’ and ‘tactics’, as a means of differentiating between ‘place’ and ‘space’. Methodologically, this research works in two directions: the first explores how the spatial practices of male prostitution produce ‘gay’ subjectivities in the moment of sexual encounter – arguing that male prostitutes actively reposition themselves as ‘subjects’ rather than ‘objects’ through spatial and sexual practices; and the second examines the social and sexual constitution of space – arguing that ‘places’ are produced as ‘spaces’ through the practices and tactics of male prostitutes. This research aims to make an original contribution to knowledge in four main ways. The first is an exploration of the relationship between de Certeau’s spatial theory of ‘tactics’ and Butler’s concept of ‘performativity’ as a constitution of subjectivity. The second is the use of de Certeau and Butler’s theories to explore three spaces of male prostitution in contemporary Bangkok, Thailand, through observations drawn from interviews, accounts of spatial experience, and discussions of various representations of space. The third is a reconsideration of these theories of performativity and spatial practices in the light of the specific conditions of the case studies in Bangkok. The fourth is the production of new forms of cross-disciplinary knowledge to bring this discussion of tactics, performativity and gay subjectivities in streets, go-go bars and magazines into architectural history and theory, thereby producing new ways of understanding how spaces are produced through encounters and looks.

Abstract:
This study was conducted to explore the college adjustment of first year college students studying at a university in Northern Cyprus. Study I which used longitudinal mixed method design, examined changes in social, academic, and total college adjustment, perceived stress, self-esteem, college adjustment self-efficacy, cultural distance levels of students through three assessments (3 months, 6 months, 9 months)
and investigated college adjustment process and experiences of students through three interviews at three stages (3 months, 6 months, 9 months). Participants were 14 English Preparatory School Turkish students at a university in the Northern Cyprus. Study II, investigated the role of gender, academic achievement, student club membership, perceived stress, self-esteem, college adjustment self-efficacy, and cultural distance, on college adjustment. Participants were 186 English Preparatory School Turkish students at a university in the Northern Cyprus. In Study II, data were collected at the end of the academic year. In Study I, it was found that, students&rsquo
self-controlled persistence of activity dimension of CASES scores increased significantly from 3 to 6 months, and students&rsquo
cultural distance scores increased from 3 to 9 months. However, no significant differences were encountered in other variables&rsquo
scores among three assessments. The qualitative findings indicated that students experienced several challenges and frequently used active coping strategies to deal with them. During this challenging process family and friends were the two prime sources of support for the students. Students also revealed that their first year experience contributed to several positive personal changes and their supportive social network and previous experiences/life style were two important facilitative factors in their adaptation process. In Study II, the results of the three hierarchical regression analyses demonstrated that combination of all 5 predictors in three steps explained 34 % of variance in total college adjustment, 31 % of variance in social adjustment, and 34 % of variance in academic adjustment scores of the students. Among all individual predictor variables
self adjustment in human relations dimension of CASES, self-esteem, student club membership were positive predictors of overall college adjustment and social adjustment
academic achievement and self-controlled persistence of activity dimension of CASES were positive predictors of academic adjustment. On the other hand, perceived stress was a negative predictor of overall college adjustment and academic adjustment.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to investigate the actual and desired levels of shared decision making in some private and secondary schools in Ankara, Turkey. The sample of the study consisted of 253 teachers from 12 private primary and secondary schools in Ankara. Shared Education Decisions Survey-Revised by Prof.Dr.Donna Ferrara was used to collect data. Descriptive statistics were applied to analyze data. The results revealed that teachers are consulted in some but not all areas of school decisions. They always participate in the decisions about the general issues of their schools. Other areas which they are consulted in are curriculum/instruction, student achievement, pupil personnel, and parental involvement. Likewise, the decisions which they sometimes participate in are in the areas of policy, staff personnel, and staff development. However, it seems that teachers think they rarely or never participate in the decisions about school/community relations, budget, and plant management. According to the results of the survey, teachers always desire to be consulted in most of the decisions. It is understood that only for the curriculum/instruction area some of them stated that they sometimes would like to participate in the decisions.

Abstract: An activity has been designed to understand how a future teachers' group interprets scientific popularization about physics published in the magazines Ciência Hoje and Pesquisa Fapesp and to understand aspects of the possibility of uses of those texts with high school students. We based our analysis on discourse analysis' notions, originated by Michel Pêcheux. We considered the conditions production and the historicity in the reading and the repetition categories: empirical, formal and historical, explained by Eni Orlandi. We also focused on journalism and scientific journalism characteristics, showing some characteristics of the texts, e.g. linguistic resources, textual aspects and newsworthiness, to understand how those students interpreted the selected texts. Thus, the texts were proposed to the students in a class for the first semester of the course. We could notice that some journalistic characteristics created conditions for the students' interpretation and the three repetition categories, which showed us the many ways that the students read. Regarding the possibility of the use of magazines in high schools, we noticed controversies in their positioning. For some the popularization texts could be used for the approach of other aspects of physics, which are different from the contents usually shown in high schools. For other students the texts could not be used, because they approached topics which are not part of the university entrance exam or aren't included in the contents usually studied at that teaching level.

Abstract:
This study is included in the field of Education History and Historiography. It is an analysis about the courses of studies elaborated between 1887 and 1929 in São Paulo, identifying the school knowledge (subjects and contents) selected to be teached in the following types of public primary schools existed in the period: isolated schools, model schools, graded schools, isolated model schools and reunited schools. For each model of school, there was a specific course of studies to be complied, meaning, thus, that the children that they attended couldnt have access to the same school knowledge. Through the investigation of the course of studies - that were incorporated in school legislation or attached in it - it aimed to pay attention to aspects as stability, addiction, and/or exclusion of certain school knowledge, besides the way that they were presented, it means, if only they described the subjects to be teached or if they detailed the contents of each one. This way, it was possible to conclude that the main goals of the primary schools were the nationalization and the moralization of the students. However, in case of isolated schools, those werent the initial focus. Other intent of this research was look for references about the issue of course of studies made by different educational professionals during the period. For this objective, it were analyzed teachers, principals of model schools and graded schools (they are found as manuscripts) and inspectors reports. In this case, they also can be found as manuscripts, but later they were included in the Anuários do Ensino do Estado de São Paulo (1907-1926). Besides, it were investigated texts published in three educational magazines which authors, generally, kept high positions in the hierarchy of São Paulos public educational system (teachers and old students of Normal School, principals of schools, and others): Revista de Ensino (1902-1918), Revista Escolar (1925-1927) and Educação (1927-1929). Through the utilization of the educational reports and the educational magazines it was able to note the active participation of the different educational professionals involving discussion about what to teach in primary schools. As theoretical standpoint, the main authors that have been used were André Chervel and Dominique Julia, who suggest the history of school subjects as a way to discover the school culture, and Ivor Goodson, one of the exponents of the history of curriculum.

Abstract:
This research investigates how school students have used language to represent gender in a corpus of over 250,000 words of creative writing at one site, from 1961 to 2015. Using tools from linguistics and Critical Discourse Analysis, the research finds that popular assertions of the progress of gender reform tell an incomplete story of how femininities and masculinities are represented. While females are undoubtedly more visible in recent texts, the underlying grammatical structures employed by student writings in this corpus represent females as less active and less purposefully influential than their counterparts in previous decades.

misconceptions, their understanding of rate of reaction concepts and attitude towards chemistry as a school subject. 56 tenth grade students from two classes of a chemistry course taught by the same teacher in the ATATÜ
RK Anatolian High school, participated in the study. This study was carried out in 2003-2004 spring semester. There were two groups in the study. Experimental group was instructed with conceptual change texts oriented instruction accompanied with analogies and the control group was instructed by traditionally designed chemistry instruction over a period of four weeks. To investigate the effect of treatment, Rate of Reaction Concepts Test and Attitude Scale Toward Chemistry as a school subject were administered to all students in both groups at the beginning and end of the treatment. To evaluate students&

science process skills, Science Process Skills Test was administered before treatment. To test the hypothesis of the study ANOVA and ANCOVA were used. The result of the study showed that students in conceptual change texts oriented instruction accompanied with analogies got higher average scores in Rate of Reaction Concepts Test than traditionally designed chemistry instruction. Also, students in experimental group indicated a higher positive attitude toward chemistry as a school subject. In addition, science process skill was a strong predictor for the achievement related to rate of reaction concepts. Results and strategies that were developed for this study may be used by teachers to reduce and eliminate students&

Abstract:
If you are holding this textbook in your hands, it means that you understand the need to solve problems when studying a physics course at school. Indeed, it is difficult to overestimate the effect that the solution of problems in the study of physics gives. The textbook contains about 800 problems for the high school physics course. The tasks are based on the examination materials of various universities, including the Republic of Crimea, data from the magazines "Kvant", "Physics at School", information received from correspondence physics and mathematics schools of the Moscow State University named after M. V. Lomonosov, National Research Nuclear University "MEPhI", Bauman Moscow State Technical University, Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (State University). We also used the problem books that were released in various years to help those entering universities. The number of problems and their selection are not random and allow, according to the compilers, to demonstrate the types of problems that are often found in the high school physics course, the most rational methods, general approaches and ideas for solving them, and also help to acquire certain skills in solving problems. Can be useful for use in secondary schools when working with students for whom physics is of interest, optional, if you prepare for the entrance exams for physics, a specialized school with advanced study of physics, as well as anyone who wants to learn how to solve problems in physics.

Abstract:
The transition of teaching Mathematics from English language to Mother tongue-based in primary grades has brought challenges and problems to teachers concerned. This paper attempts to determine those problems encountered by these teachers teaching Mathematics using Mother Tongue and the possible recourses they employed to address those problems. The study employed the descriptive- survey method of research using a questionnaire, purposively distributed to seven principals and thirty-three teachers who are identified respondents. Weighted mean and ranking system were utilized as measures to find out the prevalent problem, its recourses and how frequent they used the recourses. Based on the data gathered and analyzed, it was found out that language is the most prevalent problem in teaching Mathematics using mother tongue of which, insufficient translation from English term to mother tongue ranks on top. Whereas, in the area of instruction, content delivery using MT as medium for instruction is the major problem, while for teaching materials, the incomplete or delayed arrival of instructional material prevailed the most. The result further revealed that the identified problems in terms of language, teaching instruction and teaching material are mostly described as serious problem. To address the problem with regards to language; the teachers used other MT terms that fits the unfamiliar MT term, allowing pupils to use their own preferred term and remain to use English translation/ term. While for instruction; teachers use translation, drills, code switching, and pictures, whereas for teaching materials, teachers used school funds for material production, utilize local magazines as supplement, share resources to other grade level and borrow materials from other schools. All these recourses were all oftentimes applied/used. From the results, it is recommended that becoming teachers should be equipped with knowledge on teaching MTB-MLE and newly-hired teachers should attend seminars and trainings regarding such implementation. Principals or school heads should find measures for speedy delivery of learning materials Keywords: Teaching Mathematics, Problems on Language, Materials and Instruction, Recourses for Teaching MTB-MLE

Abstract:
In 1997, the Minister of Education in Zambia then, Dr. S. Siyamujaye announced that schoolgirls who become pregnant would no longer be expelled. The girls who had been expelled in that year were allowed to return to school. The directive showed serious commitment towards the education of girls. Hence, the Re-Entry Policy mandates schools to allow girls who fall pregnant or left school due to early marriages back into school system (MOE,1997). // Further, in the pursuit to educate girls, the Government of the Republic of Zambia is working with cooperating partners to eradicate the vices and borrowed funds from World Bank in 2016 to support the ‘Girls' Education and Women's Empowerment and Livelihood. Through ‘Keeping Girls in School (KGS) initiative’ the government has been providing bursaries to girls whose parents/guardians were identified to be vulnerable and who were beneficiaries of the Social Cash Transfer Programme. // The project objective is to support the Government of Zambia to increase access to livelihood support for women and access to secondary education for underprivileged adolescent girls in extremely poor households in selected districts, and Petauke is among the benefiting districts in Zambia. // Despite all these efforts to educate the girl-child, mitigate teenage pregnancies and child marriages, the ministry has continued receiving reports of dropouts due to covid-19, high poverty levels, tradition and culture, teenage pregnancies and early marriages. // The findings revealed that the KGS initiative has positively impacted on girls’ education as Memory Lungu, a learner at Petauke Boarding Secondary School states, “The KGS initiative is good. This is because some of us, our parents cannot manage to pay for us in school. The Government is helping us through KGS and we are grateful” (MOGE Magazine 2021). // The investigation involved 32 out of 53 benefiting schools; sampled and interviewed 100 out of 2,767 beneficiaries. The researcher used mixed research methods. Qualitative and quantitative data were collected using the automated google form, one-on-one phone call interviews and also analysed some data using Microsoft excel. // Therefore, in order to keep pregnant dropouts and out-of-school girls in the education process, government should consider investing in open schooling as it provides access to distance and online methods which can support self-directed learning of Girls anytime and anywhere while on maternity leave or out-of-school.

Abstract:
Abstract: Pedro Vieira de Almeida (Lisbon, 1933 – Matosinhos, 2011) is one of the most prominent critics and theorists of architecture in the second half of the 20th century in Portugal. In 1963, he presented at the Oporto School of Fine Arts a thesis entitled “Essay on architectural space”, clearly influenced by the thoughts of Bruno Zevi. Until the Carnation Revolution (1974), he will combine his professional practice as an architect with an intense critical activity, developed mainly in newspapers and cultural magazines. Since his early work, a remarkable ability to use innovative concepts in the critical analysis of buildings have been put forth, with major consequences in his historiographical studies, developed throughout his life through publications or retrospective exhibitions on key architects. The following paper proposes a reflection on the legacy of Le Corbusier based on Vieira de Almeida’s theoretical work, linking some texts written between 1965 and 1970 with his research carried out in his last years of life. This diachronic study highlights the central role of Le Corbusier in Vieira de Almeida’s critical approach to rationalism, by means of notions as: “criticism as a basic condition of creation”, poetic-symbolic and mythical aspects of architecture, or the more instrumental concept of “thickness”. Abstract:
The magazine “Chisinau Eparchial Vedomosti”, which was published for fifty years (1867– 1917), contains a lot of articles that deal with Lipovans / Old Believers. If the magazine contains rather rich and varied information about such carriers of traditional culture in Bessarabia as Bulgarians, Gagauz, etc. (including customs, traditions, peculiarities of life and everyday life, national character, etc.), then the Lipovans are in a special position. Based on the profile of this magazine and the struggle of the clergy for the purity of the official Orthodox religion, they primarily provide information related to confessional aspects. So, the so-called anti-sectarian missionary activity is covered. Although, according to the authors of the publications, the religiosity of the Old Believers is based on assigning the main importance to the rituals, they could not fail to note the deep commitment of the Old Believers to public worship. Despite the general negative official attitude towards representatives of the Lipovans, some articles also reveal their positive aspects: they talk about teaching children literacy in home schools, about charity, help in the community (the socalled “secret alms”), about preventing them from begging in their environment etc.

Abstract:
The explosion of the Internet has lead to a revolutionary way of doing business. Electronic commerce is currently estimated at $30 billion, but analysts predict that figure to grow to $400 billion by the year 2002. This leads to a tremendous need for skilled personnel who can handle both the technical and business aspects of e-commerce. One magazine article heading reads: "Looking for a New Job? Head for the Web." A recent announcement by U.S. Small Business Administration states that lack of technical expertise and lack of qualified IT employees are two of the major E-Commerce obstacles facing small firms. Working with the existing administrative infrastructure, Pace University's School of Computer Science and Information Systems has designed an interdisciplinary program, Master of Science in Information Technologies for Electronic Commerce. This short paper is an overview of the M.S. program.

Abstract:
In 1979, Peter Corrigan conceived the idea for the ‘Four Melbourne Architects’ exhibition to be held at South Yarra’s Powell Street Gallery. Corrigan led the charge to draw a line between a new generation of architectural practitioners with a fresh design agenda and the conservative practices represented by the Royal Australian Institute of Architects (RAIA). This exhibition, along with the establishment of the Half Time Club and the launch of Transition Magazine, provided platforms for a lively and vigorous profession. The ‘Four Melbourne Architects’—Greg Burgess, Peter Crone, Norman Day and Edmond and Corrigan—were diverse in their approach to architectural design yet shared common concerns of the post-Whitlam generation. The research for this paper examines the documentation between the four architects as they prepared their exhibition, recording the projects exhibited, along with critical reviews of the exhibition. Interviews have been undertaken with the surviving architects involved and people who attended the exhibition. Four Melbourne Architects was the first of many exhibitions during that period, which became one of many vehicles for public engagement with early postmodernism and those creating it, where collaboration, inclusion, and connectivity informed designers. That process activated a search for a contemporary Australian identity leading to the development of the ‘Melbourne School’.
