Abstract:
Background: Scoliosis is defined as deformity of the spinal column and torso in three dimensions. The cause of scoliosis remains unknown. Therefore, such scoliosis is called idiopathic. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is one of the most common structural deformities of the spine in adolescents, which aggravates during an active growth. Physical rehabilitation plays an important role in the system of complex conservative treatment of scoliotic disease. The most effective conservative treatment is 3-plane gymnastics according to the method of C. Schroth and brace therapy according to Abbott-Cheneau principle Objective: Improving a comprehensive program of physical rehabilitation for adolescents with scoliotic disease of the second degree by the method of Schrott and determining its effectiveness. Methods: We examined 14 patients aged 11–15 years with scoliotic disease of the second degree. These patients were divided into 2 groups: main and control (7 persons in each, respectively). In patients of the main group the complex treatment of scoliosis that included Schroth's method in combination with massage and brace therapy was used. In the control group comprehensive rehabilitation treatment included restorative and preventive measures according to the generally accepted program. Results: The use of Schroth technique in a comprehensive physical rehabilitation program better reduced Cobb's angle of deviation of the spine, increased strength endurance of the back and abdominal muscles, improved formation of the muscular corset, largely eliminated cosmetic defects. Conclusion: Schroth's technique had a positive effect on Cobb's angle and other parameters in adolescent girls with a grade 2 scoliosis. The multi- component Schroth technique, which includes passive correction, self-stretching and corrected breathing creates conditions for is necessary to be widely implemented in clinical practice.

Abstract:
Zabudowa Wzgórza Elizy zostało zupełnie zniszczona, teren porastają samosieje, a takĪe zdziczałe drzewa owocowe i winorośl.

Abstract:
In a successful series of papers, Schroer and Schroer presented a reductionist narrative account of personal identity (R. Schroer, 2013; J. W. Schroer & Schroer, 2014). They claimed that their reductionist account had advantages over traditional narrative theories. In this paper I intend to show that they were wrong. Although it is possible to defend a reductionist narrative account, the Schroers’ theory has a problem of circularity. And solving that problem will cause their theory to have much more problems than non-reductionist narrative theories. Consequently, they should either present a new and improved reductionist narrative account, or accept that non-reductionist narrative theories are better suited to account for the problem of personal identity.

Abstract:
Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of two different types of exercise methods in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods In total, 28 subjects with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with a mild curve magnitude (10°–26°) were randomly divided into two groups: the Schroth group (n = 14) and the core group (n = 14). The patients in the Schroth group were treated with supervised Schroth exercises, and the patients in the core group were treated with supervised core stabilization exercises; both groups performed the exercises for three days per week for a total of 10 weeks, and both were given additional traditional exercises to perform. Assessment included Cobb angle (Radiography), trunk rotation (Adam’s test), cosmetic trunk deformity (Walter Reed Visual Assessment Scale), spinal mobility (Spinal Mouse), peripheral muscle strength (Biodex System 4-Pro), and quality of life (Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaire). Results It was found that patients in the Schroth group showed greater improvement in Cobb angles, thoracic trunk rotation angle, cosmetic trunk deformity, spinal mobility, and quality of life than those in the core group (p<0.05), except for in lumbar trunk rotation angle. Peripheral muscle strength improvement was greater in the core group than in the Schroth group (p<0.05). Conclusion Schroth exercises are more effective than core stabilization exercises in the correction of scoliosis and related problems in mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and core stabilization exercises are more effective than Schroth exercises in the improvement of peripheral muscle strength. Abstract:
This study aimed to compare the effects of 3-dimension Schroth exercises and Kinesio taping (KT) on several variables in children with idiopathic scoliosis. Female volunteers aged 10 - 18 years with an angle trunk rotation > 7 degrees participated in the study. The 16 volunteers were divided into 2 groups: ‘Three-dimension Schroth exercises’ (Con) and ‘Kinesio tape with Schroth exercises’ (KT). The training program comprised 2 sessions per week with 2 h per session for 6 consecutive weeks. Significant increases of maximal inspiratory pressure (Con; p = 0.046), maximal expiratory pressure (Con; p = 0.046, KT; p = 0.047), and back muscle endurance (Con; p = 0.028, KT; p = 0.028) were recorded. Significant decreases of angle trunk rotation at the thoracic level (Con; p = 0.046, KT; p = 0.017) and the lumbar level (Con; p = 0.042, KT; p = 0.041) were recorded. In conclusion, 3-dimension Schroth exercises and KT with Schroth exercises can increase maximal expiratory pressure, back muscle endurance, and angle of trunk rotation at the thoracic and the lumbar level.

Abstract:
The treatment of scoliosis has a long history dating back to Hippocrates and his luxation table. In recent history, conservative rehabilitation treatment methods have come and gone. Some have had more longevity than others and currently there are only a handful of these “schools” for rehabilitation in existence. What is important to note in this twenty-first century world is that any approach to bracing or scoliosis rehabilitation must strive for a correction effect and be as user-friendly as possible. Patients look to achieve some measure of success, whether it be halted Cobb angle, improved breathing function, decreased rotation, or postural improvementviatrunk symmetry.Katharina Schroth created her method in 1921 as a result of self-analysis of her own imperfect scoliotic torso and the effect on it as she altered her breathing patterns. It was from these observations and self-experimentation that she devised her rotational angular breathing method. Subsequently, the Schroth method evolved under the leadership of her daughter, Christa Lehnert-Schroth P.T., and grandson, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss. Collaboration with Dr. Jacques Chêneau led to a new Schroth method compatible scoliosis bracing approach. The most recent advancement of Chêneau bracing is the Gensingen Brace® (GBW). Gensingen braces have an asymmetric design and rely on Schroth principles of correction in a smaller, lighter, more wearer-friendly brace. Each brace is designed to be a complementary supportive orthosis. It may be used independently, or in conjunction with Schroth exercise protocols.

Abstract:
Bloch analysis was originally developed to solve Schro¨dinger’s equation for the electron wave function in a periodic potential field, such as found in a pristine crystalline solid. In the context of Schro¨dinger’s equation, damping is absent and energy is conserved. More recently, Bloch analysis has found application in periodic macroscale materials, such as photonic and phononic crystals. In the vibration analysis of phononic crystals, structural damping is present together with energy dissipation. As a result, application of Bloch analysis is not straight-forward and requires additional considerations in order to obtain valid results. It is the intent of this paper to propose a general framework for applying Bloch analysis in such systems. Results are presented in which the approach is applied to example phononic crystals. These results reveal the manner in which damping affects dispersion and the presence of band gaps in periodic systems.

Abstract:
Size effects on optical properties of self-assembled quantum dots are analyzed based on the theories of linear elasticity and of strain-dependent k-p with the aid of finite element analysis. The quantum dot is made of InGaAs with truncated pyramidal shape on GaAs substrate. The three-dimensional steady-state effective-mass Schro¨dinger equation is adopted to find confined energy levels as well as wave functions both for electrons and holes of the quantum-dot nanostructures. Strain-induced as well as piezoelectric effects are taken into account in the carrier confinement potential of Schro¨dinger equation. The optical transition energies of quantum dots, computed from confined energy levels for electrons and holes, are significantly different for several quantum dots with distinct sizes. It is found that for QDs with the the larger the volume of QD is, the smaller the values of the optical transition energy. Piezoelectric effect, on the other hand, splits the p-like degeneracy for the electron first excited state about 1~7 meV, and leads to anisotropy on the wave function.

Abstract:
A weakly diffracted ultrasound beam radiated from a circular piston placed in a bubbly liquid is formulated in terms of a wave equation based on scaling relations of physical parameters [1]: typical propagation speed, period, wavelength, and diameter of beam. We derive a nonlinear evolution equation for the modulation of quasi-monochromatic waves for the case of a short wavelength with a moderately high frequency from a set of basic equations for bubbly flows: conservation equations of mass and momentum for gas and liquid in a two-fluid model, Keller’s equation for bubble wall motion, state equations for gas and liquid, and so on. The compressibility of liquid is taken into account, and thus the waves are attenuated due to bubble oscillations. The viscosity of gas, heat conduction in gas and liquid, and phase change across bubble wall are ignored. As a result, the nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation for the envelope of the beam with diffraction effect is derived from the basic equations. For plane waves the diffraction term does not appear, and hence our equation is reduced to the original nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation [1].

The fractional generalization of the Ginzburg-Landau equation is derived from the variational Euler-Lagrange equation for fractal media. To describe fractal media we use the fractional integrals considered as approximations of integrals on fractals. Some different forms of the fractional Ginzburg-Landau equation or nonlinear Schro¨dinger equation with fractional derivatives are presented. The Agrawal variational principle and its generalization have been applied.
