Abstract:
Background: Scoliosis is defined as deformity of the spinal column and torso in three dimensions. The cause of scoliosis remains unknown. Therefore, such scoliosis is called idiopathic. Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis is one of the most common structural deformities of the spine in adolescents, which aggravates during an active growth. Physical rehabilitation plays an important role in the system of complex conservative treatment of scoliotic disease. The most effective conservative treatment is 3-plane gymnastics according to the method of C. Schroth and brace therapy according to Abbott-Cheneau principle Objective: Improving a comprehensive program of physical rehabilitation for adolescents with scoliotic disease of the second degree by the method of Schrott and determining its effectiveness. Methods: We examined 14 patients aged 11–15 years with scoliotic disease of the second degree. These patients were divided into 2 groups: main and control (7 persons in each, respectively). In patients of the main group the complex treatment of scoliosis that included Schroth's method in combination with massage and brace therapy was used. In the control group comprehensive rehabilitation treatment included restorative and preventive measures according to the generally accepted program. Results: The use of Schroth technique in a comprehensive physical rehabilitation program better reduced Cobb's angle of deviation of the spine, increased strength endurance of the back and abdominal muscles, improved formation of the muscular corset, largely eliminated cosmetic defects. Conclusion: Schroth's technique had a positive effect on Cobb's angle and other parameters in adolescent girls with a grade 2 scoliosis. The multi- component Schroth technique, which includes passive correction, self-stretching and corrected breathing creates conditions for is necessary to be widely implemented in clinical practice.

Abstract:
Zabudowa Wzgórza Elizy zostało zupełnie zniszczona, teren porastają samosieje, a takĪe zdziczałe drzewa owocowe i winorośl.

Abstract:
In a successful series of papers, Schroer and Schroer presented a reductionist narrative account of personal identity (R. Schroer, 2013; J. W. Schroer & Schroer, 2014). They claimed that their reductionist account had advantages over traditional narrative theories. In this paper I intend to show that they were wrong. Although it is possible to defend a reductionist narrative account, the Schroers’ theory has a problem of circularity. And solving that problem will cause their theory to have much more problems than non-reductionist narrative theories. Consequently, they should either present a new and improved reductionist narrative account, or accept that non-reductionist narrative theories are better suited to account for the problem of personal identity.

Abstract:
Objectives The purpose of this study was to compare the efficacy of two different types of exercise methods in patients with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis. Methods In total, 28 subjects with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis with a mild curve magnitude (10°–26°) were randomly divided into two groups: the Schroth group (n = 14) and the core group (n = 14). The patients in the Schroth group were treated with supervised Schroth exercises, and the patients in the core group were treated with supervised core stabilization exercises; both groups performed the exercises for three days per week for a total of 10 weeks, and both were given additional traditional exercises to perform. Assessment included Cobb angle (Radiography), trunk rotation (Adam’s test), cosmetic trunk deformity (Walter Reed Visual Assessment Scale), spinal mobility (Spinal Mouse), peripheral muscle strength (Biodex System 4-Pro), and quality of life (Scoliosis Research Society-22 questionnaire). Results It was found that patients in the Schroth group showed greater improvement in Cobb angles, thoracic trunk rotation angle, cosmetic trunk deformity, spinal mobility, and quality of life than those in the core group (p<0.05), except for in lumbar trunk rotation angle. Peripheral muscle strength improvement was greater in the core group than in the Schroth group (p<0.05). Conclusion Schroth exercises are more effective than core stabilization exercises in the correction of scoliosis and related problems in mild adolescent idiopathic scoliosis, and core stabilization exercises are more effective than Schroth exercises in the improvement of peripheral muscle strength. Abstract:
This study aimed to compare the effects of 3-dimension Schroth exercises and Kinesio taping (KT) on several variables in children with idiopathic scoliosis. Female volunteers aged 10 - 18 years with an angle trunk rotation > 7 degrees participated in the study. The 16 volunteers were divided into 2 groups: ‘Three-dimension Schroth exercises’ (Con) and ‘Kinesio tape with Schroth exercises’ (KT). The training program comprised 2 sessions per week with 2 h per session for 6 consecutive weeks. Significant increases of maximal inspiratory pressure (Con; p = 0.046), maximal expiratory pressure (Con; p = 0.046, KT; p = 0.047), and back muscle endurance (Con; p = 0.028, KT; p = 0.028) were recorded. Significant decreases of angle trunk rotation at the thoracic level (Con; p = 0.046, KT; p = 0.017) and the lumbar level (Con; p = 0.042, KT; p = 0.041) were recorded. In conclusion, 3-dimension Schroth exercises and KT with Schroth exercises can increase maximal expiratory pressure, back muscle endurance, and angle of trunk rotation at the thoracic and the lumbar level.

Abstract:
The treatment of scoliosis has a long history dating back to Hippocrates and his luxation table. In recent history, conservative rehabilitation treatment methods have come and gone. Some have had more longevity than others and currently there are only a handful of these “schools” for rehabilitation in existence. What is important to note in this twenty-first century world is that any approach to bracing or scoliosis rehabilitation must strive for a correction effect and be as user-friendly as possible. Patients look to achieve some measure of success, whether it be halted Cobb angle, improved breathing function, decreased rotation, or postural improvementviatrunk symmetry.Katharina Schroth created her method in 1921 as a result of self-analysis of her own imperfect scoliotic torso and the effect on it as she altered her breathing patterns. It was from these observations and self-experimentation that she devised her rotational angular breathing method. Subsequently, the Schroth method evolved under the leadership of her daughter, Christa Lehnert-Schroth P.T., and grandson, Dr. Hans-Rudolf Weiss. Collaboration with Dr. Jacques Chêneau led to a new Schroth method compatible scoliosis bracing approach. The most recent advancement of Chêneau bracing is the Gensingen Brace® (GBW). Gensingen braces have an asymmetric design and rely on Schroth principles of correction in a smaller, lighter, more wearer-friendly brace. Each brace is designed to be a complementary supportive orthosis. It may be used independently, or in conjunction with Schroth exercise protocols.

Schroth terapija yra specializuota skoliozės gydymo kineziterapija, atitinkanti visus SOSORT keliamus reikalavimus [1]. Jos metu svarbiausias dėmesys kreipiamas į korpuso deformacijų korekciją, derotaciją bei kvėpavimo sistemos funkcijos gerinimą. Nors Schroth terapija laikoma vienu labiausiai ištirtų konservatyviojo gydymo metodų, literatūroje duomenų apie Schroth terapijos poveikį kvėpavimo sistemos funkcijų parametrams nedaug. Tyrimo tikslas – nustatyti Schroth terapijos metodo poveikį sergančiųjų idiopatine skolioze kvėpavimo funkcijai gerinti. Tyrimo organizavimas ir metodai. Tyrimas atliktas 2019 metų vasario – gegužės mėnesiais ambulatorinės reabilitacijos skyriuje. Tyrime savanoriškai dalyvavo 16 idiopatine skolioze sergančių pacientų. Taikyta 10 individualių kineziterapijos procedūrų. Tyrimo metodai: antropomertinių duomenų rinkimas, Cobb kampo nustatymas, krūtinės ląstos ekskursijos vertinimas, spirometrija, skoliometrija, aprašomoji matematinė statistika, dirbant su Microsoft Excel 2016 bei SPSS programomis. Tyrimo rezultatai. 10 kineziterapijos užsiėmimų pagal Schroth statistiškai reikšmingai 200 ml padidino FVC, 270 ml FEV1 rodiklius. Santykiniais vienetais FVC padidėjo 5,3 o FEV1 8,8 procentiniais punktais. Krūtinės ląstos ekskursija pažastų lygyje padidėjo 2,3 cm, kardinės ataugos lygyje 1,1 cm, statistiškai reikšmingai 1,20 sumažino korpuso rotacijos laipsnį. Didėjantis korpuso rotacijos laipsnis neigiamai veikia kvėpavimo pajėgumo rodiklius. Krūtinės ląstos ekskursijos matavimas kardinės ataugos lygyje bei šio parametro kitimai patikimai atspindi kvėpavimo sistemos pajėgumo dinamiką.

Abstract:
Until recently, transgender plaintiffs claiming sex discrimination were successful only when the discrimination was argued to be based on the plaintiff’s birth sex. Schroer v. Billington is often mistakenly understood to have been decided based on a more expansive understanding of sexed identity. Here, I call upon stasis theory to highlight how Schroer shifts the focus on sex away from sexed identities to structure, calling attention to how sex as system gives rise to discrimination. In so doing, Schroer ultimately refuses law’s responsibility for the maintenance of sex as system and locates the problem of sex with society.

Tyrimo tikslas – įvertinti Schroth metodikos efektyvumą pacientų raumenų ištvermės, judesių amplitudžių didinimui bei laikysenos korekcijai paauglių idiopatinės skoliozės atvejais. Tyrimo metodai.

Abstract:
Scoliosis is a multifactorial three-dimensional (3D) spinal deformation which always includes elementary deformations on three planes: a lateral curvature on the frontal plane, loss of natural physiological curvature on the sagittal plane and, in most cases, increase of lordosis in the lumbosacral joint (hyperlordosis), and a (very typical) vertebral axial rotation on the horizontal plane. One of the best methods in scoliosis correction is the Schroth method. In view of the above, the objective of this study is to identify the effects of the Schroth method on correcting functional-motor status in children with adolescent idiopathic scoliosis (IS). The participant sample comprised 20 children, of an average age of 14.5, who took part in the 10-day Schroth Camp. The following measure instruments were used for the assessment of the effect of the Schroth method: the Sorensen test, the Sit-and-reach test, and height assessment. Statistically significant improvements were identified across the results of all three tests, for the Sorensen test: 45.6±19.29 s, the Sit-and-reach test: 4.05±2.25 cm, and height 1.4±0.66 cm. It can be concluded that the conducted Schroth method exercise program exerted a positive effect on improving motor functionality, as well as enhancing flexibility and isometric endurance of the lumbar extensors of the spine. Additionally, there was an increase in height, which indicates a positive effect in terms of the functionality and symmetry of the left and right sides of the body, and in terms of improved posture on the frontal and sagittal planes.

Abstract:
The prevalence of scoliosis in the paediatric population is increasing every year. The treatment of idiopathic scoliosis in Lithuania is based on traditional physical therapy, and it is not always the most effective. Schroth method recently is widely globally used evidence-based conservative scoliosis treatment method. The aim of the study was to assess the effects of the Schroth method treatment for trunk muscles’ static endurance and spine mobility in girls with idiopathic scoliosis. The study was conducted in 2016-2017 at the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre, Children’s Hospital, Affiliate of Vilnius University Hospital Santaros Klinikos. In the study participated 50 girls aged 9-17 years with idiopathic scoliosis. The patients were divided into two groups: the study group (n = 25) and the control group (n = 25). Schroth treatment method for the study group and a traditional physiotherapy for the control group were used. For patients were applied 10 procedures of physiotherapy (for 30 minutes, 5 times a week). The study showed that trunk muscles’ static endurance results after rehabilitation were significantly higher in the study group than in the control group (p<0.05). The analysis of the average changes in the results between the groups revealed that in the study group the results of abdominal muscles (16.08 s more), left side trunk muscles (6.98 s more), and right side trunk muscles (7.84 s more) had changed significantly. Results of spine mobility significantly improved in both groups after rehabilitation (p<0.05). Trunk flexion amplitude estimated to have significantly greater improvement in the study group. The treatment using Schroth method had significantly improved the indicators of trunk muscles’ static endurance and mobility of the spine during spinal flexion. When compare the results inside the groups, the significant change was shown in the majority of spine and posture-related parameters in the study group. Special physiotherapy, especially Schroth method for children with idiopathic scoliosis have been shown to be an effective conservative treatment for scoliosis.

Abstract:
Abstract Background The FED method (Fixation, Elongation, Derotation) is a treatment method approach to Patients with scoliosis. The FED method is especially established in Spain and Poland, whereby in Germany it is less well-known. Nevertheless the FED method is within the scope of a research project (Project Number: 19200 BR/3). The purpose of the paper is to characterize the FED method and to highlight the specificities in contrast to the Schroth method, which is international established and especially in Germany. Methods This systematic literature research was conducted in Nov 2017–Jan 2018. Therefore common medical and physiotherapeutic databases were used. Furthermore there was a hand search in selected scientific journals. Only a small number of relevant references were identified. That is why the respective authors were asked to provide the full-texts of their papers and to recommend further references. Results A total of 378 references were identified. After removing duplicates and the content-related selection, 19 references were deemed to be relevant. Based on the analysis of this relevant literature, the FED method was comprehensively characterized. First of all the general structure of the FED method and the scientific evidence for its effectiveness was described. And as a result of the literature research, the operating principles of the FED method were pointed out. Then these operating principles were discussed in comparison with the Schroth method. The Schroth method based on sensomotoric and kinesthetic principles and the correction of the pathologic posture was performed by selective muscle activation and breathing-pattern. Thus, the posture correction will be performed by the patients (auto correction). Compared to the Schroth method, the FED method implements the posture correction by the FED-device. This correction is influenced by mechanical forces with a comparatively high strength and intensity. The repetitive mechanical correction stimulates the sensomotoric system. And due to trophic/biochemical adaptations, the physiological bone growth will be stimulated. Conclusion In total the authors want to clarify, that both treatment methods (Schroth method, FED method) supposed to be applied in consideration of the preconditions of the patients and the pursue of the different treatment goals. Thus, the implementation of treatment methods should be used according to the individual treatment demand and on different stages in the treatment process.

Abstract:
Heinrich Bullinger’s 1546 correspondence mentions a pasquil by the Augsburg scholar and poet Six Birck, which the editors identified as Ain neüwer Römischer Pasquillus […]. However, this work is commonly attributed to Martin Schrot, as an analysis of its content and form confirms. To Sixt Birck’s oeuvre, a pasquil can be added now, which has yet to be identified.

Abstract:
Analysis of loss of coolant accident (LOCA) scenarios in nuclear reactor safety evaluation depends on knowledge of many complex phenomena. A primary phenomenon controlling the sequence of events, by determining the residual coolant mass inventory within the primary system, is the critical flow process. Critical flow of a flashing liquid is complicated by marked departure from thermal equilibrium. Several complex models have been proposed to represent the non-equilibrium effects, including six-equation two-fluid models. Amos and Schrock (1983) developed a model based on the premise that the two-phase region is homogeneous and that thermal nonequilibrium is the dominant factor causing the departure from the homogeneous equilibrium idealization. Flashing inception was represented by a modification of the Alamgir-Lienhard (1981) pressure undershoot. Exponential relaxation of the metastable liquid was formulated as suggested by Bauer et al. (1976) and the critical flow criterion used the sound speed formulation of Kroeger (1976). Lee and Schrock (1988) extended the Amos-Schrock work by developing an improved correlation for the pressure undershoot correction factor in terms of Reynolds number and subcooling Jakob number. Improvements were also made in the relaxation constant and in the application of Kroeger’s formulation. In the present paper a new cavity flooding model is used for the evaluation of pressure undershoot at flashing inception. This model is similar to the one developed by Fabic (1964) for the evaluation of liquid superheat required for boiling on a surface subjected to transient heating. The model contains an experimentally deduced factor, which is correlated against stagnation subcooling using the experimental data of Amos and Schrock (1983, 1984), Jeandey et al. (1981), and the Marviken tests (Anon., 1979). The model was then tested against seven additional data sets and shown to be very accurate in predicted mass flux (standard deviation of 10.9 percent for all data). The cavity flooding model is thought to represent the true physics more correctly than does the earlier model, which had its origin in molecular fluctuation theory.

Abstract:
This present study aims to present a recovery program following a surgery for the removal of a unique T10 hemi vertebra. The patient, previously inaccurately diagnosed on two occasions, undergoes surgery at a private clinic on 06.02.2018 when a team composed of 5 specialists lead by Dr. A.T., having the acknowledged approval of the family, operates a left posterior T10 Ruf-Harms. Following this surgical intervention, complex, but not fully neuro-monitored, a first protocol of recovery was established for the immediately following period, consisting of: outdoor physical exercises and physical therapy through the Schroth technique. Following the program established and implemented at Ortoprofil Clinic in Tirgu Mures, a correction of the T12-L4 scoliosis with 4 degrees in comparison with the scoliosis present before the surgical intervention was noticed. The patient is currently following a complex recovery program through physical therapy – Schroth technique and swimming – Brass and Back technique with positive results.
