Abstract:
The masters thesis focuses on the work of Erwin Schulhoff influenced by jazz and contemporary popular music, describing all of his works since 1914 until his death. The author studied all of the available work, including autographs. He presents results of his research with plenty of sheet music illustration, interpreting each composition in the context of Czech and international music. In the last chapters he introduces his own transformations of Schullhofs composition.

Abstract:
Erwin Schulhoff (1894–1942) was a Czechoslovakian musician born in Prague, to a German-Jewish family, and whose life came to a premature end in 1942 at the Wülzburg concentration camp, near Weißenburg, Bavaria. Schulhoff’s life, compositional style, and two of his flute works are addressed in this dissertation: Sonata for flute and pianoforte, WV 86, and Concertino for Flute, Viola, and Double Bass, WV 75. Each work is considered as a discrete entity, and insight provided into the structure of the music; stylistic and compositional influences, form, phrase structure, and other aspects are discussed. The intended audience is the flutist seeking knowledge regarding the historical significance and performance of each piece. The analysis and summary of Schulhoff’s life and primary flute works will contribute to the understanding of performance scholarship of his music and provide a deeper understanding of the composer, from the perspective of musical and compositional style.

Der Notenbogen-Entdeckerpass für Kinder und Jugendliche, der Möglichkeiten eröffnet, zu jüdischen Musikern in Leipzig zu forschen, Neues zu entdecken, der Notenspur zu folgen und viele weitere Impulse gibt, steht seit einiger Zeit zur Verfügung. Nun gilt es, die Kinder und Jugendlichen zu unterstützen, sowohl im schulischen Kontext als auch durch Freizeiteinrichtungen, bei denen die kulturelle Bildung im Mittelpunkt steht. Zum Entdeckerpass gibt es jetzt die vorliegende Handreichung. Sie beinhaltet didaktische Hinweise für ausgewählte Stationen, zahlreiche Arbeitsblätter als Kopiervorlagen für Schülerinnen und Schüler, Stadtrallyes mit handlungsorientierten Aufgaben für eine Exkursion oder einen Projekttag. Ebenso enthalten sind ein Lernquiz und Arbeitsblätter mit vertiefenden Quellen zum entdeckenden, biografischen Lernen für vier ausgewählte jüdische Musiker, die alle einen Bezug zu Leipzig hatten. Die handlungsorientierten Aufgaben, unter anderem kreative Ideen für Gedenktafeln, Straßeninterviews, fiktive Stadtführungen, dienen nicht nur der Wissensreproduktion, sondern haben das Ziel, eine Auseinandersetzung und Reflexion zu befördern. Somit kann auf das umfassende und vielfältige Angebot der Stadt Leipzig zugegriffen werden und die Nutzer erleben eine lebendige und partizipative Erinnerungskultur.

Abstract:
Ervin Schulhoff in the interwar cultural context for needs of modern school This thesis deals with life and works of a Czech-German music composer of the interwar period Ervin Schulhoff. The first part of the thesis is concerned with composer's life in the interwar cultural context, the second part focuses on his works. Detailed attention is paid to the period when Schulhoff was influenced by interwar avand-garda movement, particularly by Dadaism and jazz dance music and also Neoclassicism. The third part handles the issue of the use of Schulhoff's work related to his life at nowaday school and brings some ideas and possibilities of use in school music lessons with intersubject overlap. All work is completed with sheet music examples and images serving for better illustration of the subject. In the Appendices are included more pictures and photographs illustrating the composer's life and also the list of Ervin Schulhoff's compositions.

Erwin Schulhoff (1894–1942) was a 20th century Czech composer and pianist.“Sonata for Flute and Piano”is the only flute and piano composition of Schulhoff completed in 1927. The work which stands for an elegant and classic genre among all the twentieth century flute non-tonal works. Schulhoff's compositional style reflects his historical events that occurred during his life, and his style is very extensive, including Post-romanticism, Expressionism, Neoclassicism, Dadaism, Avant-garde music and jazz. Schurhoff's works also created his own style of creation, in addition to using a composite style and a modern form of composition that was representative of his works. This thesis contains four chapters. Chapter one explains the motive and the purpose and scope of the study and methods. Chapter two introduces the composer’s life and the style of his works. Chapter three includes an in-depth analysis and interpretation of his work with each piece presented in a tabulated form. The final chapter summarizes the aforementioned chapters and provides a conclusion of this thesis.

Jazz was introduced to Europe during late 1910s despite the political and economic turbulence after the WWI. Though Germany and Austria were defeated, this did not discourage American Jazz from gaining popularity in these countries. And many classical compositions from this time demonstrate Jazz idioms. This thesis begins with overviewing of the Jazz around 1920 to 1930 in Germany, then deals with two operas Jonny spielt auf by Ernst Krenek and Aufstieg und Fall der Stadt Mahagonny by Kurt Weill, as well with three instrumental works Fünf Pittoresken、Esquisses de Jazz and Hot-Sonata by Erwin Schulhoff, examing their early contact with Jazz, the way of using Jazz features as composition techniques, and exploring their aesthetic backgrounds in integrating Jazz features into works.

Abstract:
Submitted thesis The Portrayal of Czech Society in Petr Schulhoff's Film Comedies of the Normalization Era analyses the cinematography of the Czechoslovak Republic in the seventies and the eighties through the topic of social a ideological values which they present. Its primary concern is the question what are selected movies saying about Czechoslovak social reality of that time and which instruments of semiotic mediations are used for this purpose. The main assumption of the work is that also escapist entertainment described the era, setting and characters according to norms dictated by the communist government and thus help to stabilize the system.
