Abstract:
<p> Decisions have both short and long-term consequences. Sometimes we cannot see the consequences and do not know the outcomes, but we take a step and make a choice. Some after-effects are irrevocable, and some are fixable. Some decisions affect us immediately and exclusively while others have consequences that are global. When we make decisions, we sometimes doubt our decisions and ask ourselves what might have happened if another choice was made. We make choices daily, small or great, for good or bad. By focusing largely on my family's own experience, I trace the master narrative of Korea's modern political identity, and analyze how the political forces and changes of the past century have impacted the Korean people and shaped their identity, from Japanese annexation to division after World War II, through the Korean War and until the present. By also analyzing the uniquely Korean national collective identity, I also analyze how this pol

In the first comparative study of Canadian and American foreign policy during the Korean War, this thesis argues that, while Canada and the U.S. shared some similar foreign policy goals and interpretations of the Soviet Union between 1945 and 1951, their national security policies were fundamentally distinct. In turn, these differing interpretations had a significant influence on each country's understanding of the Korean War. The purpose of this thesis is to analyse the impacts of Climate Change policies on the Korean economy. Chapter two assesses initial emission allowance allocation methods in the Korean electricity market with a Mixed Complementarity Problem (MCP) model. Giving away free permits makes the emission reduction more expensive, but the extra capacity triggered by the free allowances to new entrants based on the fuel-specific benchmark raises social welfare when the industry is not competitive. abstract: Despite the minor differences in the inclusiveness of the word, there is a general assumption among the scientific community that the 'pursuit of knowledge' is the most fundamental element in defining the word 'science'. However, a closer examination of how science is being conducted in modern-day South Korea reveals a value system starkly different from the value of knowledge. By analyzing the political discourse of the South Korean policymakers, mass media, and government documents, this study examines the definition of science in South Korea. The analysis revealed that the Korean

South Korea, on the other hand, remains an anomaly due to contentious actors’ persisting influence in the society. This dissertation theorizes recent political events in South Korea. It consists of three separate essays which proceed chronologically and are united by their critiques of the culture and government of South Korea. The first essay concerns the 2006 debate over South Korea’s founding that was shaped by two opposing achievements: the establishment of the Korean Provisional Government in 1919 and the creation of the South Korean government in 1948. Drawing on the fact that the majority of the South Korean population supports the former, I argue that the South Korean approach to founding is deep
