Scientific publications are rapidly developing as a result of science domains development. Therefore tracing research trends in various domains of science has become a challenge. In fact, limitations of conventional methods of analysis of various domains of science and their weaknesses in representing a comprehensive view of knowledge, has led specialists of scientometrics and computer science to develop new methods to overcome it. In this direction, scientometrics specialists have been combined scientometrics indicators and methods with new visualization techniques to provide tools in order t

Science mapping (or mapping knowledge domains) has been a hot topic in scientometrics field since 1990s. Science maps are generally created by analyzing different kinds of scientific literatures, including journal articles, conference proceedings, patents, books, and monographs. Citation analysis (eg. direct citation, co-citation, bibliographic coupling and hybrid approach) with units in different granularity (eg. authors, keywords, articles, journals and cate-gories) is the most popular method to create maps of science. Filtering-oriented soft shadowing techniques filter shadow maps with varying filter sizes determined by desired penumbra widths. Different varieties of this approach have been commonly applied in interactive and real-time applications. Nonetheless, they share some fundamental limitations. First, soft shadow filter size is not always guaranteed to be the correct size for producing the right penumbra width based on the lig

In this thesis, we explore "detail maps", a technique that is a combination of texture compression and texture synthesis. We decompose a given input texture into its high and low frequency components and, at runtime, recombine these components to generate a visually acceptable reconstruction of the original texture. Detail maps use less memory than the original texture, and they can be implemented in either software or graphics hardware. Our specific contributions are: the elimination of seam artifacts; showing how detail maps can be used for texture transfer and volume textures; and de

Procedural textures and image textures are commonplace in graphics today, finding uses in such places as animated movies and video games. Unlike image texture maps, procedural textures typically suffer from minification aliasing. I present a method that, given a procedural texture on a surface, automatically creates an anti-aliased version of the procedural texture. The new procedural texture maintains the original textures details, but reduces minification aliasing artifacts. This new algorithm creates an image pyramid similar to MIP-Maps to represent the texture. Whereas a MIP-Map stores per
