Abstract:
The methodology as the doctrine of the organization of professional activity, which is characterized by a minimum content and maximum coverage of essential connections and relationships, is characterized in the article. The valuable significance of the methodology of scientific researches, which consists in the delineation of the established features, the formation of the structure, the identification of forms, mechanisms and conditions for the implementation of scientific research, is indicated. The effectiveness of scientific research, which largely depends on the timely provision of information about new advances in science and the effective use of this information for scientific and research purposes, is revealed. The typology of division of all sources of information used in the preparation of written works into printed sources of information is revealed and specialized informative-retrieval systems, electronic sources of information is determined. The most important technological procedure in the methodology of scientific research is the collection of sources of information and their systematization. The main task of systematization is to organize and group all the collected material on the content and sequence of its use in the preparation of scientific work. The main functions of the systematic analysis are characterized: implementation of careful check of completeness of selection of literary sources; implementation of verification of compliance of the source data of the used sources. It is revealed that the selection and evaluation of factual material for writing a scientific work is a scientific work that requires purposeful individual effort, personal perseverance and motivated desire. Scientific creativity is manifested in the selection and processing of a significant amount of basic and additional information, its generalization and presentation in a form that is convenient for analysis and writing conclusions. It is concluded that the proposed methodological activity facilitates the methods of scientific research and is necessary throughout the time of writing a scientific paper.

SummarySources of information used by health professionals for research, teaching, patient care and miscellaneous information demands were determined by means of a questionnaire survey. The results of the survey indicate that, for purposes of research, scientific and technical journals are the most frequently -used sources, followed by abstracts and indexes, private information files and monographs/textbooks. For teaching purposes, monographs/textbooks are the most frequently used source, followed by private information files, scientific/technical journals and seminars, workshops, and conferences. Patient care information needs are most frequently satisfied by use of scientific/technical journals, personal contact with colleagues, and monographs/textbooks, while miscellaneous information demands are satisfied by use of scientific/technical journals, private information files, and non-academic journals and newspapers.

This paper presents a critical approach to a scientific project conducted by a group of natural scientists at the National Observatory of Athens, in which artworks depicting sunsets were used as sources of scientific information on atmospheric abnormalities after volcanic eruptions. The author examines the stages of this research and its results from a philosophical point of view, attempting to show that the cognitive value of art has an idiosyncratic character and does not correspond to reality as does that of science.

The significance of digitalization of visual sources in rare science books for potential research and studies is emphasized. The consistent information growth in the modern world evokes the problem of selecting sources. Often, the significant fraction of these sources is outside the purview of researchers, which results in information entropy. This is particularly true for the rare scientific books and their visual components. Until recently, the visual sources, i. e. films, photos, posters, postcards, etc., remained outside the scope of scientific research. The author argues that visual information as presented in rare science books can be an important source of information for science owing to its accuracy, image clarity, reliability, and information value. Involvement of the RAS Library for Natural Sciences in the library collection digitalization programs is discussed. The examples are provided to demonstrate the scientific and information value of visual sources in rare science books. The conclusions are made on the importance of digitalization of visual sources in the DL of rare books. This approach enables to expand library information foundation for specialized scientific research in various fields of science as well as for educational programs, which would be of practical significance in perspective.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to provide to scientific researchers and academic students some subsidies related to information reliability that may be used during information search and retrieval for academic research based on the author’s experience as a university librarian and interdisciplinary researcher. Design/methodology/approach – The paper is composed of a brief conceptualization of the term information reliability, followed by a practical guide containing three processes for obtaining reliable information: knowledge of bibliometric indicators, evaluation of sources of information and analysis of the content of recovered publications. Findings – Currently, there are few publications about information reliability that target the practical and effective learning of academic researchers and students, based on the experience of librarians who work directly with bibliographic search and training based on scientific literature. Social implications – The great demand of questions submitted by academic users on how to obtain reliable information shows the need for a paper like this to clarify them. Originality/value – This paper shares best practices for search and discovery of information reliability, which are based on experiences that are not commonly addressed in the literature, and presents processes covering the bibliometric indicators, information sources and publication contents.

The study investigated the extent to which transmission and cognition, the first two stages in the research use process, are accomplished for winemakers. “Transmission-cognition” was operationalized as the frequency of engagement with information sources considered to be carriers of scientific research. The study also investigated the prominence of four types of research use among winemakers (conceptual, symbolic, instrumental and persuasive) together with their inter-relationship. Conceptual use of scientific information was reported by 90% of winemakers and is a precursor to the other types of research use. Findings are discussed with reference to knowledge creep and the dissemination of scientific research through central winemakers acting as nodes in social networks.

Purpose. The aim of the article is to reveal the essence of customs information, generalization of signs of its classification and identification of sources. Methodology of research. The following methods of scientific research are used to achieve this goal: analysis, synthesis, monograph – in the study of scientific sources and legislation on the interpretation of the essence of information in general and customs information in particular; generalization and systematization – in determining the types of customs information on the basis of classification; graphic – for a visual presentation of the process of circulation of customs information, its varieties by levels of government; abstract and logical – to form the conclusions of the study, in particular the interpretation of concepts in the author's sense. Findings. The role and essence of customs information are determined. It is established that customs information must meet such requirements as: value, timeliness, accuracy, reliability, sufficiency and accessibility. Varieties of customs information are distinguished by a number of classification features. The types of customs information are characterized depending on the level of management – strategic, tactical or operational. External and internal sources of customs information formation are substantiated. Originality. The interpretation of the essence of customs information in a broad and narrow sense has been further developed. In particular, in a broad sense, customs information is proposed to mean a set of data that is collected, processed, disseminated, stored and received adequate protection by officials in the internal and external environment of customs authorities in order to solve their tasks and ensure proper implementation functions defined by the current legislation; and in the narrow sense ‒ a set of certain data submitted to the customs authority by the declarant, or his authorized person, or another state body, and used to analyze risks in the customs sphere. Practical value. The results of the conducted study can be the basis for further scientific research to improve the information support of the risk management process in the customs sphere. With the advent of the INTERNET, the process of on-line communication, man x machine, mediated for the search mechanisms, became, simultaneously, an aid and a difficulty in the process of recovery of information. The researcher had that to adapt it the way to operate of the INTERNET and included knowledge of idiomatic differences, of terminology, beyond using instruments that supply parameters to it to get greater relevancy and relevance in the data. The use of intelligent agents for improvement of results and the reduction of semantic noises have been pointed as solutions with respect to increase of the precision in the result of the searches. The exploratory study of cases carried through it analyzes on-line research from the theory of the information and considers two forms to optimize the comunicacional process with sights to the relevancy and relevance of the gotten data: the first one suggests the application of algorithms that use mediating the controlled vocabulary as of the communication process using itself of the describers for on-line recovery. , and second the importance of the intelligent agents in the process of man-machine communication stands out.(AU)<br>O pesquisador científico necessita de informações precisas, em tempo hábil para conclusão de seus trabalhos. Com o advento da INTERNET, o processo de comunicação em linha, homem x máquina, mediado pelos mecanismos de busca, tornou-se, simultaneamente, um auxílio e uma dificuldade no processo de recuperação de informações. O pesquisador teve que adaptar-se ao modo de operar da INTERNET e incluiu conhecimentos de diferenças idiomáticas, de terminologia, além de utilizar instrumentos que lhe forneçam parâmetros para obter maior pertinência e relevância nos dados. O uso de agentes inteligentes para melhoria de resultados e a diminuição de ruídos semânticos têm sido apontados como soluções para aumento da precisão no resultado das buscas. O estudo de casos exploratório realizado analisa a pesquisa em linha a partir da teoria da informação e propõe duas formas de otimizar o processo comunicacional com vistas à pertinência e relevância dos dados obtidos: a primeira sugere a aplicação de algoritmos que utilizem o vocabulário controlado como mediador do processo de comunicação utilizando-se dos descritores para recuperação em linha. , e a segunda ressalta a importância dos agentes inteligentes no processo de comunicação homem-máquina.(AU)

Obwohl diese Technologien bereits Forschungsaktivitäten an sich beeinflussen, so ist zu erwarten, dass sie auch einen Einfluss auf das Publizieren und Teilen von Forschungsergebnissen haben werden. Bisher wurden in wissenschaftlichen Publikationen nur in geringem Maße Daten beigefügt. Forschungförderungseinrichtungen drängen zu konkreten Lösungen zum Verbreiten, Teilen und Wiederverwenden von Forschungsergebnissen. Berichte wie “Riding the Wave - How Europe can gain from the rising tide of scientific data” der High Level Expert Group on Scientific Data der Europäischen Kommission zeichnen eine Vision, bei der die Herausforderungen einer Diversität an Datenformaten, Menschen und Gemeinschaften durch die Anwendung technischer, semantischer und sozialer Eigenschaften der Interoperabilität vermieden werden. Diese Forschung adressiert derartige Herausforderungen aus einer technischer Perspektive. Fokus dieser Arbeit ist die Exploration eines neuartigen Ansatzes zur Unterstützung der Kuration (Sichtung und Korrektur) von Forschungsdaten mittels der Entwicklung einer Methodologie und mittels der Definition eines automatischen Datenkurationsprozesses in welchem Daten auf einfache Weise annotiert werden können. Ein Beitrag besteht in einem formalen Modell (COSI), welches die Integration großer Mengen an Metadaten erlaubt, welche als logische Konzepte behandelt werden können anstatt nur als Literale. Diese Konzepte werden in einer Ontologie definiert, welche, unter anderem, Inferenzen und Schlussfolgerungen ermöglicht. Der zweite Beitrag dieser Arbeit besteht in einer pragmatischen Lösung die es erlaubt, Metadaten on-the-fly zu annotieren.<br>Computational and information technology is one of the biggest advancement of the last century, a revolution that is influencing the way we approach social and technical problems in our day to day life. While these technologies have already influenced the research activity per sé, it is to be expected that these innovations will significantly influence the publishing and sharing of scientific results as well. So far, scientific publications have relied on limited result data attached inline in research paper publications. Establishments supporting research are pushing for concrete solutions that allow dissemination, share and reuse of research results. Reports such as “Riding the Wave - How Europe can gain from the rising tide of scientific data” of the High Level Expert Group on Scientific Data, European Commission (High Level Expert Group on Scientific Data, October 2010) presents a vision where the challenges of diverse data formats, people and communities are avoided due to the application of technical, semantic and social features of interoperability. This research is an effort to address similar concerns from a technical perspective. Focus of this research is the exploration of a novel approach on supporting research data curation by developing a method and defining an automated data curation process where data can be easily annotated. As a contribution, this work offers a formal model (COSI) that allows integration of plentiful metadata that can be treated as logic concepts and not merely as literals. These concepts are defined in an ontology that allows among other actions, inference and reasoning operations. The second contribution of this work is associated to a pragmatic solution that facilitates annotation of metadata on the fly. This solution is referred as sheer curation and shows how data can be annotated (based on COSI) and published while investigations are executed.

Abstract The aim of this doctoral thesis is to present methods of search, evaluation and analysis of a specific research domain (schizophrenia) from four perspectives: bibliometric analysis of 1) Finnish doctoral theses and 2) Finnish journal articles on schizophrenia, and meta-analysis to determine the prevalence of 3) alcohol use disorders and 4) cannabis use disorders in schizophrenia. Over the years, the number of Finnish articles on schizophrenia has increased, as well as the amount of international collaboration. Bibliometric methods were also found to be feasible in the evaluation of psychiatric research. However, the methods should be used with care. Articles written in collaboration with international organisations seem to receive more citations and are published in journals with higher impact factors, which highlights the importance of developing scientific networks. A considerable proportion (20%) of Finnish scientific schizophrenia articles were published in theses consisting of original papers. The current funding system supports the writing of doctoral thesis consisting of original articles and favours epidemiological and biological research over research into medical treatments. This may affect the research culture in Finland and even slow down the development and improvement of the national treatment system. The reported prevalence of alcohol and cannabis use disorders has differed considerably between studies. No meta-analysis on alcohol or cannabis use disorders in schizophrenia has previously been conducted. In studies (n = 71) on schizophrenia patients, the median prevalence was 15% for current and 26% for lifetime alcohol use disorder, and 16% for current and 27% for lifetime cannabis use disorder. Alcohol use disorders are common in schizophrenia patients, although a declining trend was observed when comparing previous reviews. Cannabis use disorders were found to be more common in younger and first-episode patient samples, as well as in samples with a high proportion of males.

<p>In the past decade, the amount of scientific data collected and generated by scientists has grown dramatically. This growth has intensified an existing problem: in large archives consisting of datasets stored in many files, formats and locations, how can scientists find data relevant to their research interests? We approach this problem in a new way: by adapting Information Retrieval techniques, developed for searching text documents, into the world of (primarily numeric) scientific data. We propose an approach that uses a blend of automated and curated methods to extract metadata from large repositories of scientific data. We then perform searches over this metadata, returning results ranked by similarity to the search criteria. We present a model of this approach, and describe a specific implementation thereof performed at an ocean-observatory data archive and now running in production. Our prototype implements scanners that extract metadata from datasets that contain different kinds of environmental observations, and a search engine with a candidate similarity measure for comparing a set of search terms to the extracted metadata. We evaluate the utility of the prototype by performing two user studies; these studies show that the approach resonates with users, and that our proposed similarity measure performs well when analyzed using standard Information Retrieval evaluation methods. We performed performance tests to explore how continued archive growth will affect our goal of interactive response, developed and applied techniques that mitigate the effects of that growth, and show that the techniques are effective. Lastly, we describe some of the research needed to extend this initial work into a true &ldquo;Google for data&rdquo;. </p>

This study evaluates the data sources and research methods used in earlier studies to rank the research productivity of Library and Information Science (LIS) faculty and schools. In doing so, the study identifies both tools and methods that generate more accurate publication count rankings as well as databases that should be taken into consideration when conducting comprehensive searches in the literature for research and curricular needs. With a list of 2,625 items published between 1982 and 2002 by 68 faculty members of 18 American Library Associationâ (ALA-) accredited LIS schools, hundreds of databases were searched. Results show that there are only 10 databases that provide significant coverage of the LIS indexed literature. Results also show that restricting the data sources to one, two, or even three databases leads to inaccurate rankings and erroneous conclusions. Because no database provides comprehensive coverage of the LIS literature, researchers must rely on a wide range of disciplinary and multidisciplinary databases for ranking and other research purposes. The study answers such questions as the following: Is the Association of Library and Information Science Educationâ s (ALISEâ s) directory of members a reliable tool to identify a complete list of faculty members at LIS schools? How many and which databases are needed in a multifile search to arrive at accurate publication count rankings? What coverage will be achieved using a certain number of databases? Which research areas are well covered by which databases? What alternative methods and tools are available to supplement gaps among databases? Did coverage performance of databases change over time? What counting method should be used when determining what and how many items each LIS faculty and school has published? The authors recommend advanced analysis of research productivity to provide a more detailed assessment of research productivity of authors and programs.

Abstract:
Information Systems (IS) alignment is one of the most significant areas of concern in terms of priority for both the Information Technology and the Management fields. In this context, many scientific research organisations face the challenge of integrating their IS with organisational strategic objectives. This research aimed to develop a practical model of IS strategic alignment, that can be adopted by scientific research and development (SR&D) organisations in order to improve technology transfer activities. The research involved a single exploratory case study of an SR&D organisation in Kuwait, the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR). Thirtyseven respondents from the research management, IS management, and planning and support groups of KISR, namely, the scientific research senior managers, IS senior managers, and consultants, respectively, were interviewed concerning issues related to the organisational, strategic, and IS domains. Semi-structured interviews have been designed as a data collection method. The study has utilised certain data analysis techniques including template analysis, coding and classification, and interpretive analysis methods. In the analysis of the external and internal contexts, briefly, Kuwait’s IT plan was discussed, along with the challenges, and in detail, the description and analysis of KISR’s strategic plans. Twenty-two factors were identified and have emerged in this study which have effects on IS alignment. The key contributions, including a critical and comprehensive survey of IS strategy literature has led to the identification of factors that may affect IS alignment. A conceptual framework was designed to enable a better insight of the IS alignment challenges. A practical road map was developed in this study to guide and direct SR&D organisations in achieving IS alignment effectively and efficiently. This road map is aimed at bridging the gap between theory and practice for organisations. The proposed practical road map will help KISR and other SR&D organisations to achieve both successful and feasible IS strategic alignment to enable effective technology and knowledge transfer.

<p> This dissertation examines the role of the mass news media as an influencer of opinions on immigration through an examination of information sources used by host, Highland community members. There is an extensive range of research exploring the experiences of immigrants and policy responses in the UK, but little is known about how host communities process and respond to increasing cultural diversity. Addressing the latter is essential to overcome the assimilation tendencies in discourses about the integration of immigrants. Critical discourse analysis was used to analyze newspapers and interviews in this mixed methods study conducted in the year prior to the Scottish Independence Referendum. Findings of this study revealed the negative and homogenizing portrayal of immigrants in the mass news media, the importance of first and second hand experiences as sources of information on immigration in Scottish Highland communities, and the influence of sociocultural factors on how people establish authority of information sources. Findings suggest the need for stronger institutional infrastructures to address increasing diversity in the UK. Of particular interest is the context of this research, during a time of crisis, which reveals that the act of decision-making is based on the often unconscious, ontological construction of information behaviors through the worldview of participants.</p><p>

This paper has been developed in the frame of the research project “V:ALERE 2019” focused on Italian public-owned Academic Medical Centers. The main aim of the project is to provide evidence, advice, and remarks to help the agents of the public health system to address the many challenges that they face. In recent years, there is an increasing recognition of the potential value of research evidence as one of the many factors considered by policymakers and practitioners. Even more, in the case of medical science, the analysis of research and its impact is indispensable, in light of its implications for public health. The starting point for mapping a research area is to review the related scientific literature because by synthesizing past research findings, it is possible to effectively use the existing knowledge base and advance lines of future researches. In this sense, bibliometrics becomes useful, by providing a structured analysis to a large body of information, to infer trends over time, themes researched, and to show the “big picture” of extant research. In particular, in this work, we focus our attention on the scientific production of the last 20 years of the Scientific Institutes for Research, Hospitalization, and Healthcare (IRCCS “Istituto di Ricovero e Cura a Carattere Scientifico”) specialized in the oncology research. IRCCS are biomedical institutions of relevant national interest that drive clinical assistance in strong relation to research activities. They are committed to being a benchmark for the whole public health system for both the quality of patient care and the innovation skills in the field of the organization. All the analyses were carried out by using the Bibliometrix, an open-source tool for quantitative research in scientometrics and bibliometrics that includes all the main bibliometric methods of analysis.

Abstract:
Medical marijuana (MMJ) is legal in the state of Florida for the treatment of specific qualifying medical conditions.1,2 As of July 2020, over 2,450 physicians are authorized to order MMJ, and 360,000 patients are registered in Florida’s MMJ program.3 With this rapid uptake come concerns regarding physicians’ knowledge about MMJ,4–7 and the lack of preparing physicians-in-training to manage MMJ.4,7,8 We conducted a state-wide survey of certified MMJ providers in Florida. The survey was developed by the Consortium for Medical Marijuana Clinical Outcomes research team. The aim of the survey was to inform physicians of the mission of the consortium, which is to support and disseminate research. The survey items were developed accordingly, and the survey was pilot tested with a small group of physicians. We identified all physicians licensed to certify patients for MMJ who care currently practicing in the State of Florida (n=1609), to investigate their information sources and training needs regarding MMJ. The survey was disseminated via mail and email, including a $40 incentive for survey completion. Preliminary responses from 51 (5%) providers (mean age 56, 74% male) are summarized here. The sample included providers from 22 Florida counties and represented a broad range of medical specialties. The majority (92%) practiced in both medical marijuana and traditional medical practice. To learn about MMJ, 98% used research articles, 90% used online sources, 86% learned from dispensary staff, 84% learned from discussions with other providers, 72% used books, 65% used conferences, 61% used magazines, and 35% had a personal experience with marijuana. The sources most cited as “very useful” were conferences (51%), research articles (50%), discussions with other providers (47%), and online sources (47%). Topics rated as a high priority for training included drug-MMJ interactions (80%), strategies to help patients reduce their use of opioids or other drugs (80%), information about the selection of doses and CBD: THC ratios (80%), evidence for managing specific medical conditions or symptoms (78%), information about the effect of different phytocannabinoids and terpenes (75%), advantages and disadvantages of specific modes of delivery (71%), general updates on research findings (71%), educational information about the endocannabinoid system (67%), the safety of medical marijuana use (55%), identification and management of cannabis use disorder (51%), and comparison of products available in different dispensaries (49%). The majority of providers either strongly agreed or agreed (77%) that they could provide better care if they knew which products their patients receive at dispensaries. Physicians use a blend of primary research, online sources, and exchanges with colleagues to learn about MMJ. Perceived needs for more pharmacological information and indication-specific detail for treatment regimen were high. Most physicians believe that details on dispensed MMJ would improve patient care.

There is an increasing realization of the need for fundamental research in the science of systems engineering. The International Council on Systems Engineering vision document calls for theoretical foundations for systems architecting, systems design and systems understanding. During a recent NSF workshop, a number of knowledge areas ranging from mathematics, information sciences, physical sciences, systems science to human and social sciences were identified as possible sources from which the scientific foundation of systems engineering can be enhanced. However, the primary challenge facing the community lies in orchestrating the breadth and diversity of the many knowledge areas into a cohesive foundation. This paper briefly surveys systems science-related efforts across multiple application domains. The specific objectives in this paper are to present a classification of initiatives for developing foundations for systems engineering, and to discuss the challenges, and potential strategies forward, associated with systems science research. The classification is discussed using two case examples — the Internet and the air transportation system. Through these examples, some of the key research challenges and strategies are exemplified.

The system’s information base contains data about objects: the authors, related&#x0D; organizations (places of their work), publications at the analytical and monographic levels, sources (publications at the summary level — journals, collections), reports made at scientific conferences, symposia, seminars. The system has an administrative module designed to enter and edit data. The&#x0D; user’s module of the system is a special search engine that searches for information about publications, sources, reports, events, authors by processing search queries. A distinctive feature of the system is the introduced concept of «equivalent» objects. Such objects are «persons» corresponding to the same author with different spellings of the last name in the bibliographic&#x0D; descriptions of publications; organizations with different versions of names; articles which are published without changes in different languages.

In Lithuania, forests are managed by Lithuanian State Forest Enterprise, municipalities, ministries, etc. and private forest owners. About 50% of all forest land is State importance, privately owned forests cover 40% of forest land, and about 10% of forest land belongs to forests reserved for restitution. Forest management of private ownership force many challenges, because private forest owners are people, who have purchased or received the property after restitution, and often lacks knowledge about forest resources, its dynamics and sustainable forest management. As remote sensing is a valuable source for forest monitoring, because it provides periodic data on forest resource and condition status, these methods are gaining increased attention worldwide. In this context, more scientific efforts are made at developing remote sensing derived geo-spatial data services for sustainable forest management through a web service platform, which would integrate geo-information into daily decision making processes and operation for private forest owners. This article presents a review of privately owned forests’ statistics, questionnaire-based survey about GIS usage and demand for forest owners in Lithuania and links available sources of open geo-spatial data useful for sustainable forest management.

First and foremost, the main inspiration for the specific problematics in this paper is solar energy as clean and profitable energy for businesses in the Republic of North Macedonia. The question that arises as the basis is finding the reason why the progress in the sector of renewable energy sources in this country is still slow and insufficient. The results and conclusions of the research shall be achieved via comprehensive analysis, and by finding the answer to the posed question through the: theoretical analysis, the inductive and deductive methods, as well as description shall be used, whereas the techniques utilized shall be questionnaires, interviews, observations. By summarizing in one place all the theoretical and empirical aspects, we are finding the answer to the main question asked: One of the possible reasons for this actual situation is the fact that so far there is no possibility in this country for individuals to be involved in the process of production and transmission of electricity in the energy system. The goal is achieved in this paper through providing specific guidelines and suggestions regarding the improvement of the legal framework in the Republic of North Macedonia, emphasizing on benefits if the households are allowed to deliver their produced solar energy and considering the possible ways to remove the determined obstacles for implementing this idea.

In modern agriculture, farmers face certain problems in obtaining necessary information and improving agricultural production. This paper aimed to reveal the standpoints of farmers related to the role of agricultural extension services (AES) as a source of information and farmers’ opinion on the quality of work of extension officers. In order to examine this goal, two municipalities were selected, Alibunar and Kruševac. A total of 65 farmers were included in the research and a survey of their attitudes was conducted. The analysis of farmers’ attitudes indicates that some of them are still not sufficiently familiar with the work of extension service. In the municipality of Alibunar, the most important source of information is other farmers, although half of them regularly use services of AES. Farmers in Kruševac are more focused on using the services of extension officers, which they value as the most important source of information related to agricultural production. Farmers from both municipalities think that the work of extension officers, both in terms of transparency and quality of information, can be improved.

The primary purpose of this paper is to introduce essential elements of cognitive information processing (CIP) theory, research, and practice as they existed at the time of this writing. The introduction that follows describes the nature of career choices and career interventions, and the integration of theory, research, and practice. After the introduction, the paper continues with three main sections that include CIP theory related to vocational behavior, research related to vocational behavior and career intervention, and CIP theory related to career interventions. The first main section describes CIP theory, including the evolution of CIP theory, the nature of career problems, theoretical assumptions, the pyramid of information processing domains, the CASVE Cycle, and the use of the pyramid and CASVE cycle. The second main section describes CIP theory-based research in examining vocational behavior and establishing evidence-based practice for CIP theory-based career interventions. The third main section describes CIP theory related to career intervention practice, including theoretical assumptions, readiness for career decision making, readiness for career intervention, the differentiated service delivery model, and critical ingredients of career interventions. Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated research worldwide and resulted in a large number of computational models and initiatives. Models were mostly aimed at forecast and resulted in different predictions partially since models were based on different assumptions. In fact the idea that a computational model is just an assumption attempting to explain a phenomenon has not been sufficiently explored. Moreover, the ability to combine models has not been fully realized. The Reference Model for disease progression was performing this task for years for diabetes models and recently started modeling COVID-19. The Reference Model is an ensemble of models that is optimized to fit observed disease phenomenon. The ensemble has the ability to include model components from different sources that compete and cooperate. The recent advance in this model is the ability to include models calculated in different scales, making the model the first known multi-scale ensemble model. This manuscript will review these capabilities and show how multiple models can improve our ability to comprehend the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract:
This report describes the results of technical analysis, field tests, and laboratory tests that were performed for LED highway lighting options by the Energy Efficiency and Reliability Center (EERC) at Purdue University Northwest for the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT). This effort was conducted over the past 3 years to evaluate and test the technology and viability of using modern highway lighting technology to enhance energy efficiency, safety, security, and economic development of communities and roadways. During the testing period there was a continuous discussion between INDOT and EERC regarding the laboratory and field testing of INDOT approved luminaires submitted by vendors. There were multiple discussions with INDOT and vendors regarding the individual details and issues for the 29 luminaires that were tested. A comparison study was conducted by EERC of the various alternatives and comparison to currently installed luminaires. Data was collected for field tests of the luminaires by EERC and INDOT personnel for the luminaires. Field data was evaluated and compared to lighting models using vendor supplied ies data files. Multiple presentations were made at 3 separate Purdue Road Schools regarding the results and procedures of the testing program by EERC in conjunction with INDOT. A total of 22 final reports, considered confidential by INDOT, for individual vendor luminaires have been prepared as part of this effort. These reports were submitted sequentially to INDOT as testing was completed during the course of this effort. A total of 29 luminaires were tested. Some luminaire testing was terminated during testing due to design issues or vendor requests. All testing was summarized in the INDOT specification sheet attached to each report. Observations regarding the consistency of the supplied test luminaire with the requirements of Section 7.2 of the INDOT test procedure “Procedure for evaluation and approval list requirements for solid state ballasted luminaires ITM 957-17P” is provided in the Appendix to the report for each luminaire. Details regarding how these tests were performed and the respective associated evaluation of performance and reliability are provided in the report. This effort included: consideration of published and vendor information; appraisal of products consistent with national industry standards; review of physical design, thermal performance; laboratory testing of photopic performance, reliability, life cycle data and characteristics, and power characteristics; technical and probabilistic risk studies; and field testing and analysis of LED light sources including comparison to currently installed conventional light sources. Assistance in preparing INDOT standards for highway lighting was provided on multiple occasions.

Abstract:
The article examines the world and Ukrainian history of corporate periodicals. The main purpose of this study is to reproduce an objective global picture of the emergence and formation of corporate periodicals, taking into account the business and socio-economic context. Accordingly, its tasks are to compare the conditions and features of corporate media genesis in different countries, to determine the main factors of their development, as well as to clarify the transformations of the terminological apparatus. The research is based on mostly foreign secondary scientific works published from 1915 to the present time. The literature was studied using methods such as overview, historical, functional and thematic analysis, description, and generalization. A systematic approach was used to determine the role and place of each element in the system, as well as to comprehensively consider the object in the general historical context and within the current scientific discourse. The method of systematization made it possible to establish internal and external connections, patterns and contradictions in the development of the object of study. The main historical milestones on this path are identified, examples of the first successful corporate publications and their contribution to business development, public relations, and corporate communications are considered. It was found that corporate media emerged in the mid-nineteenth century spontaneously, on the wave of practical business needs in response to industrialization, company increase, staff growth, and consumer market development. Their appearance preceded the formation of the public relations industry and changed the structure of the information space. The scientific significance of this research is that the historical look at the evolution of corporate media provides an understanding of their place, influence, capabilities, and growing communicative role in the digital age.

The project “Social network tools and procedures for developing entrepreneurial skills in PhD programmes” (prodPhD) aims to implement innovative social network-based methodologies for teaching and learning entrepreneurship in PhD programmes. The multidisciplinary teaching and learning methodologies to be developed will enable entrepreneurship education to be introduced into any PhD programme, providing students with the knowledge, skills, and motivation to engage in entrepreneurial activities. However, the use of the output of the project will depend on the nature and profile of the research or scientific field. In this context, key performance indicators (KPIs) form the base on which the quality and scope of the methodologies developed in the project will be quantified and benchmarked. The project’s final product will be an online tool that higher education students can use to learn entrepreneurship from a social network perspective. Performance measurement is one of the first steps of any project and involves the choice and use of indicators to measure the effectiveness and success of the project’s methods and results. All the KPIs have been selected according to criteria of relevance, measurability, reliability, and adequacy, and they cover the process, dissemination methods, and overall quality of the project. In this document, each KPI is defined together with the units and instruments for measuring it. In the case of qualitative KPIs, five-level Likert scales are defined to improve indicator measurability and reliability. The KPIs for prodPhD are divided into three main dimensions, depending on the stage of the project they evaluate. The three main dimensions are performance and development (which are highly related to the project’s process), dissemination and impact (which are more closely correlated with the project’s output), and overall project quality. Different sources (i.e., European projects and papers) have been drawn upon to define a set of 51 KPIs classified into six categories, according to the project phase they aim to evaluate. An Excel tool has been developed that collects all the KPIs analysed in the production of this document. This tool is shared in the Scipedia repository.
