Abstract:
The methodology as the doctrine of the organization of professional activity, which is characterized by a minimum content and maximum coverage of essential connections and relationships, is characterized in the article. The valuable significance of the methodology of scientific researches, which consists in the delineation of the established features, the formation of the structure, the identification of forms, mechanisms and conditions for the implementation of scientific research, is indicated. The effectiveness of scientific research, which largely depends on the timely provision of information about new advances in science and the effective use of this information for scientific and research purposes, is revealed. The typology of division of all sources of information used in the preparation of written works into printed sources of information is revealed and specialized informative-retrieval systems, electronic sources of information is determined. The most important technological procedure in the methodology of scientific research is the collection of sources of information and their systematization. The main task of systematization is to organize and group all the collected material on the content and sequence of its use in the preparation of scientific work. The main functions of the systematic analysis are characterized: implementation of careful check of completeness of selection of literary sources; implementation of verification of compliance of the source data of the used sources. It is revealed that the selection and evaluation of factual material for writing a scientific work is a scientific work that requires purposeful individual effort, personal perseverance and motivated desire. Scientific creativity is manifested in the selection and processing of a significant amount of basic and additional information, its generalization and presentation in a form that is convenient for analysis and writing conclusions. It is concluded that the proposed methodological activity facilitates the methods of scientific research and is necessary throughout the time of writing a scientific paper.

Abstract:
The aim of the paper is to clarify the concept of scientific ignorance: what is it, what are its sources, and when is it epistemically detrimental for science. I present a taxonomy of scientific ignorance, distinguishing between intrinsic and extrinsic sources. I argue that the latter can create a detrimental epistemic gap, which have significant epistemic and social consequences. I provide three examples from medical research to illustrate this point. To conclude, I claim that while some types of scientific ignorance are inevitable and even desirable, other types of scientific ignorance are epistemically and ethically flawed and should be prevented.

Abstract:
Abstract We propose the concept of ‘scientific contagion’ — a mental heuristic through which any form of scientific treatment transfers some essence of ‘science’ to the processed substance, thereby affecting its nature and social acceptability. This was tested regarding the potential treatment of water from natural sources before it is used for religious purposes, as many such sources have dangerous pollutants. For an ancient natural well having a religious narrative, most participants judged that the acceptability of water would be reduced for religious purposes but not for drinking if local officials scientifically treat the water. That is not the case if religious rituals are conducted on the water instead (Study 1). If water from a “holy river” is processed scientifically, most participants predicted that it would reduce acceptability for religious use while increasing acceptability for drinking (Study 2). Potential scientific treatment without altering the composition of water from a natural spring also decreased acceptability for religious use but there was no effect on acceptability for drinking or on willingness to pay money for the water (Study 3). A follow-up study comparing acceptability for different kinds of water sources — from a holy well, natural spring, and household tap water sourced from either underground wells or rivers found lower acceptability for religious usage compared to drinking after potential scientific treatment for all these waters, but more so for holy and natural waters (Study 4). These studies establish the phenomena of scientific contagion that could have significant social implications and open future directions.

Abstract:
Great powers have skillfully used the ―Armenian card‖ and ―Armenian factor‖ from time to time against the Ottoman Empire and the Republic of Turkey, the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Historical facts, sources, and documents prove that the settlement of Armenians in the South Caucasus, including the historical territories of Azerbaijan, began in the early 19th century in accordance with the strategic plan prepared by Russia. It was the ―Dashnaktsutyun‖ party that put forward unfounded claims such as the creation of ―Great Armenia from sea to sea‖ or ―Great Armenia from the Black Sea to the Caspian Sea‖ and spread the idea of ―Armenianism‖ aimed primarily at the destruction of the Turkic and Muslim peoples. To realize this idea, Armenians carried out mass killings, massacres, terrorist acts, genocide, ethnic cleansing, etc. In 1918, Armenians and the international forces supporting them committed genocide in the cities, towns, villages of Baku, Guba, Shamakhi, Eastern Anatolia, Nakhchikhan, Zangezur, Iravan, Salyan, Neftchala, Lankaran, Goychay, Khoy, Salmas, Urmia regions of South Azerbaijan and other regions. The article describes the Armenian-Dashnaks and the forces supporting them in Salyan in 1918. The genocide committed is being researched and analyzed.

Abstract:
Statistical sources are most commonly regarded as a special kind of historical documentation in educational and scientific literature. But it is not supported by arguments. A source study analysis is replaced by historical studies of formation and evolution of statistical researches or statistical authorities. However, some approaches stated in literature on source studies and statistics history can be the basis for a more argumentative viewpoint. Quantitative data are contained in sources of various types and can be processed by statistical methods not only by specialists of statistical agencies, but also by historians and representatives of other sciences as well. The appearance of special methods of data collection with the purpose of their further processing using statistical methods, the development of statistical studies had an impact on increase and complexity of registration documents, the emergence of their new varieties. Registration documents from the point of view of their kind belong to the recordkeeping documentation. The impact of statistical science on public thought and public administration practice has led to a more active inclusion of quantitative data, primary and mathematically processed, in other written sources, both documentary and narrative, to the creation of a variety of specialized statistical reference and scientific reference literature, intensive use in various scientific publications. Since the mid-19th century, due to the emergence of a whole network of statistical authorities in Russia, a special statistical recordkeeping has been formed, which continues to develop, and becomes more complicated today, introducing a complex of constantly evolving interrelated legislative, recordkeeping documentation and scientific (research and reference) sources.

Abstract:
From the moral point of view, a person's actions should correspond to a certain social norm. The boundaries of this norm are set by age-old patterns and perceptions. The laws and rules of ethics in force in a given socio-historical situation also have a significant impact. It is believed that “old” and “new” rules should form a solid foundation of morality. Children should be taught these rules, and then they will live without breaking the law. Everyone wants a harmonious life, and often ordinary people, “philistines”, do not think about the true, underlying causes of violent behavior. And when they encounter aggression in children and adolescents, unfortunately, they see only superficial, external manifestations in it. Thus, the behavior of children who show irritation, intemperance, rudeness, opposition, disrespect for elders is seen as a result of poor upbringing, bad influence of peers, books and films with aggressive content, etc. And these children, as a result, become the target of severe measures by adults, society in general. The article considers the old familiar problem of “aggression” in a “new” way as the bullying concept, taking into account the research of recent years. Currently, the bullying term is a universally recognized international socio-psychological term. Despite the fact that experts ignore the problem of the impact of the bullying experience on the further life and attitudes of victims, some data show the extremely adverse impact of harassing on the subsequent behavior of a person. The authors consider different points of view of the concept of “bullying”, reveal the content of the concept of “aggression”, the purposes of aggression, its types: instrumental and emotional aggression, aggression in adolescence, etc. The purpose of this research is to identify and set the main problems associated with the problem of bullying among teenagers. The object of the research is literature considering the problem of bullying, its types. The following methods were used: theoretical (analysis of psychological, pedagogical and scientific and methodological literature on the studied problem, content analysis of modern literature; study of sources determining the characteristics of adolescent development.

Abstract:
The COVID-19 pandemic has fueled the spread of misinformation on social media and the Web as a whole. The phenomenon dubbed `infodemic' has taken the challenges of information veracity and trust to new heights by massively introducing seemingly scientific and technical elements into misleading content. Despite the existing body of work on modeling and predicting misinformation, the coverage of very complex scientific topics with inherent uncertainty and an evolving set of findings, such as COVID-19, provides many new challenges that are not easily solved by existing tools. To address these issues, we introduce SciLander, a method for learning representations of news sources reporting on science-based topics. We extract four heterogeneous indicators for the sources; two generic indicators that capture (1) the copying of news stories between sources, and (2) the use of the same terms to mean different things (semantic shift), and two scientific indicators that capture (1) the usage of jargon and (2) the stance towards specific citations. We use these indicators as signals of source agreement, sampling pairs of positive (similar) and negative (dissimilar) samples, and combine them in a unified framework to train unsupervised news source embeddings with a triplet margin loss objective. We evaluate our method on a novel COVID-19 dataset containing nearly 1M news articles from 500 sources spanning a period of 18 months since the beginning of the pandemic in 2020. Our results show that the features learned by our model outperform state-of-the-art baseline methods on the task of news veracity classification. Furthermore, a clustering analysis suggests that the learned representations encode information about the reliability, political leaning, and partisanship bias of these sources.

Abstract:
This paper summarises a joint meeting, organised by the British Academy of Forensic Sciences (BAFS) and the Clinical Forensic and Legal Medicine Section of the Royal Society of Medicine (RSM), which took place at the RSM, London, on 18 January 2020. It featured six speakers from different fields within medicine, science and the law – in keeping with the core aims of BAFS and Medicine, Science and the Law – and was concluded by a view from the judicial bench. The wide-ranging discussion included descriptions of cases of bias – both conscious and unconscious – and confirmed that while no professional group is exempt from the potential intrusion of bias, the phenomenon should be more clearly recognised, discussed and guarded against by individuals, peers and wider professional networks and bodies.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the next collection of the project "Museums-libraries-archives in the information support of historical science". The article describes the key problems of identifying, preserving and studying visual sources, which are reflected in the articles of representatives of the scientific community, employees of higher schools, archives, museums, libraries. The reviewed publication seems to be very relevant and meets the need for a continuous exchange of experience between specialists from different regions and scientific institutions. The materials of the published articles showed that visual materials carry an important source load for the development of key areas of world historiography. At the same time, many authors have identified new areas of application of this important historical source. In addition to paying attention to the traditional illustrative retrospective, the collection contains the author's vision of the current situation, in which there is an accelerated increment of the source base. It is concluded that it is necessary to continue the dialogue of scientists and specialists in theoretical and applied discourse. The publication of this collection demonstrated that, in general, the project has become an authoritative platform for serious academic discussions, identifying promising topics for study, as well as testing new research techniques and methods.

Abstract:
Based on the decision-theoretical conditions underlying the selection of events for news coverage in science journalism, this article uses a novel input-output analysis to investigate which of the more than eight million scientific study results published between August 2014 and July 2018 have been selected by global journalism to a relevant degree. We are interested in two different structures in the media coverage of scientific results. Firstly, the structure of sources that journalists use, i.e. scientific journals, and secondly, the congruence of the journalistic selection of single results. Previous research suggests that the selection of sources and results follows a certain heavy-tailed distribution, a power law. Mathematically, this distribution can be described with a function of the form C*x-α. We argue that the exponent of such power law distributions can potentially be an indicator to describe selectivity in journalism on a high aggregation level. In our input-output analysis, we look for such patterns in the coverage of all scientific results published in the database Scopus over four years. To get an estimate of the coverage of these results, we use data from the altmetrics provider Altmetric, more precisely their Mainstream-Media-Score (MSM-Score). Based on exploratory analyses, we define papers with a score of 50 or above as Social Impact Papers (SIPs). Over our study period, we identified 5,833 SIPs published in 1,236 journals. For both the distribution of the source selection and the distribution of the selection of single results, an exponentially truncated power law is a better fit than the power law, mostly because we find a steeper decline in the tail of the distributions.

This paper presents a critical approach to a scientific project conducted by a group of natural scientists at the National Observatory of Athens, in which artworks depicting sunsets were used as sources of scientific information on atmospheric abnormalities after volcanic eruptions. The author examines the stages of this research and its results from a philosophical point of view, attempting to show that the cognitive value of art has an idiosyncratic character and does not correspond to reality as does that of science.

Abstract:
Well-informed collective and individual action necessary to address climate change hinges on the public’s understanding of the relevant scientific findings. Social media has been a popular platform for the deliberation around climate change and the policies aimed at addressing it. Whether such deliberation is informed by scientific findings is an important step in gauging the public’s awareness of scientific resources and their latest findings. In this study, we examine the use of scientific sources in the course of 14 years of public deliberation around climate change on one of the largest social media platforms, Reddit. We find that only 4.0% of the links in the Reddit posts, and 6.5% in the comments, point to domains of scientific sources, although these rates have been increasing in the past decades. These links are dwarfed, however, by the citations of mass media, newspapers, and social media, the latter of which peaked especially during 2019–2020. Further, scientific sources are more likely to be posted by users who also post links to sources having central-left political leaning, and less so by those posting more polarized sources. Scientific sources are not often used in response to links to unreliable sources, instead, other such sources are likely to appear in their comments. This study provides the quantitative evidence of the dearth of scientific basis of the online public debate and puts it in the context of other, potentially unreliable, sources of information.

Abstract:
Nowadays, like other language units, lexical and terminological units play an important role in shaping the global information environment. Based on this feature, information is formed and enriched in the orbit of a single terminological and informative function. A linguistic phenomenon that has both a lexical and terminological nature is undoubtedly considered typical of scientific speech. The nature of information in a literary text leads to the creation of new lexical and terminological units. Depending on the change in information, new lexical and terminological units are included in the text every time. The article discusses the types of information (intellectual, mental), emotional, etc. The problems of presenting certain types of information by lexical and terminological means are highlighted, the ways of presenting scientific information in dictionaries and scientific works are solved, and the degree of information provision by individual industry terms is explained. It also reveals new potential meanings of informative terms, and thus reveals the meaning of terminological units in this area, which are an important tool for scientific thinking.
