Databases nowadays used in all kinds of application areas often differ greatly in a number of properties. These varieties add complexity to the handling of databases, especially when two or more different databases are dependent.

The approach described here to propagate updates in an application scenario with heterogeneous, dependent databases is the use of a rule-based mediator. The system EruS (ECA rules updating SCOP) applies active database technologies in a bioinformatics scenario. Reactive behaviour based on rules is used for databases holding protein structures.

The inher

The work is focused on the area of the proteins and their domains. It also briefly describes gathering methods of the protein´s structure at the various levels of the hierarchy. This is followed by examining of existing tools for protein´s domains prediction and databases consisting of domain´s information. In the next part of the work selected representatives of prediction methods are introduced. These methods work with the information about the internal structure of the molecule or the amino acid sequence. The appropriate chapter outlines applied procedure of domains´ boundaries prediction.

Abstract:
The Institute for Scientific Information's (ISI) citation databases have been used for decades as a starting point and often as the only tools for locating citations and/or conducting citation analyses. ISI databases (or Web of Science [WoS]), however, may no longer be sufficient because new databases and tools that allow citation searching are now available. Using citations to the work of 25 library and information science faculty members as a case study, this paper examines the effects of using Scopus and Google Scholar (GS) on the citation counts and rankings of scholars as measured by WoS.

In previous research, the author developed a novel PPDM method – Data Unrealization – that preserves both data privacy and utility of discrete-value training samples. That method transforms original samples into unrealized ones and guarantees 100% accurate decision tree mining results. This dissertation extends their research scope and achieves the following accomplishments: (1) it expands the application of Data Unrealization on other data mining algorithms, (2) it introduces data compression methods that reduce storage requirements for unrealized training samples and increase data mining per
