Corpus Linguistics has had major effects on English language teaching and learning in the past few decades (Huang, 2011). Its influence can be seen, for example, in the development of modern dictionaries, grammars, course books, and testing design. Data-Driven Learning (DDL), or learning driven by learner access to language data found in corpora, has seen an increase in research interest, too (Cobb & Boulton, 2015). However, this research interest has not resulted in widespread classroom adoption of DDL methods in spite of generally positive findings (Cobb & Boulton, 2015). Objections

ABSTRACTSentiment Analysis (SA) is a field of research within Natural LanguageProcessing that has been growing in the last decades dueto social media and smartphones popularization. Many SA applicationsmake use of a corpus: a collection of data in textual formused to train and/or test SA resources. This work describes theconstruction of a corpus intended for document-level SA. The corpuscontains reviews of supermarkets throughout Brazil, extractedfrom Google Places. The data were collected taking into accountthe Brazilian geographic distribution and linguistic variations, andwere carefully rev

In this paper, we studied whether models based on BiLSTM and BERT can predict hashtags in Brazilian Portuguese for Ecommerce websites. Hashtags have a sizable financial impact on Ecommerce. We processed a corpus of Ecommerce reviews as inputs, and predicted hashtags as outputs. We evaluated the results using four quantitative metrics: NIST, BLEU, METEOR and a crowdsourced score. A word cloud was used as a qualitative metric. While all computer-generated metrics (NIST, BLEU and METEOR) indicated bad results, the crowdsourced results produced amazing scores. We concluded that the texts predicted

The Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) scale is a tool for assessing the maturity of technologies. It has been increasingly used by governments and industries to implement tasks such as technological trends detection. The complexity of the assessment process has demanded automated solutions based on classification models that analyze documents to infer the TRL of the technologies described by the texts. However, the lack of corpora with labeled documents has hindered the development of such solutions. To fill this gap, this study proposes a methodology for building corpora labeled w.r.t. the TR

Symphonies Reframed recreates symphonies as chamber music. The project aims to capture the features that are unique for chamber music, at the juncture between the “soloistic small” and the “orchestral large”. A new ensemble model, the “triharmonic ensemble” with 7-9 musicians, has been created to serve this purpose. By choosing this size range, we are looking to facilitate group interplay without the need of a conductor. We also want to facilitate a richness of sound colours by involving piano, strings and winds. The exact combination of instruments is chosen in accordance with the features of

These wetlands are monitored more intensively than other wetlands in the program. This is the second report in a two-part series, designed to summarize the results from intensive vegetation surveys completed at sentinel wetlands from 2008 to 2018. The first report (Bingham and Young 2023) characterized the conditions in each wetland and provided baseline reference information for other reports and site-specific projects. In this report, we ex
