Data sets of known and predetermined structure (plasmodes) were created by the Monte Carlo method and subjected to exploratory factor analysis; the scree plots for each plasmode were then drawn. Since the aim of the paper is to give a graphic portrayal of the effects of orthogonality and random variance upon the scree plot, appropriate data sets were selected to illustrate these effects. A progression of scree plots is shown wherein it may be clearly seen how an increase in both nonorthogonality and random variance leads to the suppression of the factor structure in the data. This study uncovers the genetic diversity of 40 sesame (Sesamum indicum L.) genotypes and identifies the key yield-contributory traits using Principal Component Analysis (PCA), a multivariate technique. Sesame is an important oilseed crop grown for seed oil and harbors greater genetic diversity besides it faces challenges like low productivity, vulnerable to biotic and abiotic stresses. PCA is commonly used in plant breeding for assessing the genetic diversity. The analysis revealed three principal components such as days to fifty percent flowering, number of primary branches per plant and num

Exploratory factor analysis (EFA) is a very widely used statistical procedure in the social and behavioral sciences. This technique features in validity studies, as well as investigations of latent structure underlying observed measurements. A primary aspect of using EFA is determining the number of factors to retain. In addition to theoretical considerations, a variety of statistical tools have been developed and recommended for use in assisting researchers with respect to factor retention. The parametric spectral estimation approach constitutes a powerful tool to identify the superimposed scatterers with different complex reflectivities, located at different heights in the same range–azimuth resolution cell. Unfortunately, this approach requires prior knowledge about the number of scatterers for each pixel, which is not possible in practical situations.
