Multiple monitor configurations are used in office settings to promote increased productivity by providing more screen space. Our systematic review compiled literature to determine if office workers who use multiple computer monitor configurations have altered health and performance outcomes compared to the use of a single monitor. A secondary purpose was to compare the studies’ monitor configurations to purchasing trends. Finally, we compiled user preference results and methodological information, such as the tasks used and participant placement. Our systematic review was registered on PROSPE

There is a paucity of knowledge regarding the diversity and impact(s) of disease-causing fungi in marine animals, especially shellfish. In efforts to address this knowledge gap for the shore crab Carcinus maenas, a year-long disease screen was carried out across two sites in Swansea Bay (Wales, UK) with a view to characterising putative fungal infections. Crabs were sampled between November 2017 and October 2018, and screened systematically for disease signatures using haemolymph (blood) preparations, targeted PCR and tissue histopathology. Strikingly, mycosis was confirmed in ~0.4% of total c

AbstractThis article uses the case of pregnancy testing in Britain to investigate the process whereby new and often controversial reproductive technologies are made visible and normalized in mainstream entertainment media. It shows how in the 1980s and 1990s the then nascent product placement industry was instrumental in embedding pregnancy testing in British cinema and television's dramatic productions. In this period, the pregnancy-test close-up became a conventional trope and the thin blue lines associated with Unilever's Clearblue rose to prominence in mainstream consumer culture. This art

Native speakers (NS) of French and L2 learners of French performed a sentence-matching task focusing on three areas of French grammar: adverb placement, subject-verb agreement and clitic-pronoun placement. In sentence-matching tasks participants respond to two sentences on a computer screen indicating whether the two sentences are identical or not. Thrombophilia has recently been reported to be increased in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). We wanted to determine whether this was applicable to our population with CF and how our patients compared to the previously reported groups. Seventy one pediatric CF patients were assessed for a thrombophilic tendency, using a lupus anticoagulant screen, protein C, protein S, antithrombin assay, and activated protein C resistance (APCR) screen. The incidence of activate protein C resistance (4.2%) was within expected limits for the general population as was the incidence of antithrombin deficiency.

Many bioscience fields employ high-throughput methods to screen multiple biochemical conditions. The analysis of these becomes tedious without a degree of automation. Crystallization, a rate limiting step in biological X-ray crystallography, is one of these fields. Screening of multiple potential crystallization conditions (cocktails) is the most effective method of probing a proteins phase diagram and guiding crystallization but the interpretation of results can be consuming. To aid this empirical approach a cocktail distance coefficient was developed to quantitatively compare macromolecule c

It is prevalent in regional musculoskeletal pain syndromes, either alone or in combination with other pain generators. The myofascial pain syndrome is one of the largest groups of under-diagnosed and under-treated medical problems encountered in clinical practice. Trigger points are commonly seen in patients with myofascial pain that can be responsible for localized pain in the affected muscles as well as referred pain patterns. Summary Determining the optimal location of wells with the aid of an automated search method can significantly increase a project's net present value (NPV) as modeled in a reservoir simulator. This paper has two main contributions: first, to determine the effect of production constraints on optimal well locations and, second, to determine optimal well locations using a gradient-based optimization method. Our approach is based on the concept of surrounding the wells whose locations have to be optimized by so-called pseudowells. These pseudowells produce or inject at a very low rate and, thus, h
