Abstract:
Sports events are an activity that is in great demand, especially the people of Southeast Asia. One of the most prestigious sporting events in the Southeast Asian region is the Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games). SEA Games is one of the sporting events held in the Southeast Asia region and is only held every two years involving eleven member countries of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN). The most SEA Games issues occurred on Twitter with 20,600 tweets. This is because the 2019 SEA Games event in the Philippines experienced many irregularities, one of which is the Rizal Memorium stadium, which has not been renovated until now. The purpose of this study is to obtain and compare the results of the accuracy of the classification of Twitter users' sentiments towards the 2019 SEA Games in the Philippines using k-nearest neighbor and support vector machine. The data used in this study comes from data from Twitter social media users who often use the hashtag "SEA Games 2019" which has been done with text preprocessing of 2697 tweets with data partitions of 60% for training data and 40% for testing data. The conclusion that can be drawn from this research is that the best accuracy results in the k-nearest neighbor and support vector machine classification are the support vector machine classification with a polynomial kernel of 92.96% so that the predictions of the Support Vector Machine classification tend to be negative.

Abstract:
Abstract This article explores how Chinese games are localized for Southeast Asia (SEA) markets. Based on the synthesized insights from practitioners and gamers, we identify gaps between localization in theory and in practice. The post-gold model is popular with Chinese game companies that usually do not consider localizing a game until it has attained domestic success. They tend to opt for full localization rather than “deep localization” (Bernal-Merino 2011) because adapting visuals and game mechanics is considered “icing on the cake”. Additionally, in our data, gamers seem to prefer foreignization over domestication, while practitioners combine both strategies to create a defamiliarizing gaming experience. Finally, the language diversity in SEA and the lingua franca status of English call for a nuanced understanding of locale. Hence, we suggest to differentiate three types of locales (presumed, practiced, and preferred) as a possible analytical framework to further theorize game localization from multiple perspectives of stakeholders.

Abstract:
The paper presents application of dynamic games methods, multistage positional and multistep matrix games, to automate the process control of moving objects, on the example of safe control of own ship in collision situations when passing many ships encountered. Taking into consideration two types of ships cooperation, for each of the two types of games, positional and matrix, four control algorithms for determining a safe ship trajectory supporting the navigator’s maneuvering decision in a collision situation are presented. The considerations are illustrated by examples of computer simulation in Matlab/Simulink software of safe trajectories of a ship in a real situation at sea. Taking into account the smallest final deviation game trajectory from the reference trajectory of movement, in good visibility at sea, the best is trajectory for cooperative matrix game, but in restricted visibility at sea, the best is trajectory for cooperative positional game.

The discovery of twenty game boards – including some in a dedicated den or gaming room – in the late Roman fort at Abu Sha’ar, on the Red Sea coast of Egypt, conjures up images of daily life at a well established, but remote Roman military station. Here, during the long hot days and cool nights, soldiers no doubt played board games and gambled incessantly. This paper describes the boards, the likely games played on them and the areas of the fort where they were played.

Abstract:
AbstractA paradox lies at the heart of the biennial Southeast Asian (SEA) Games. On the one hand, the region's premier sporting event has consistently celebrated themes of regional friendship and cooperation; on the other, the SEA Games are synonymous with controversy and poor sportsmanship, especially over the strategic selection of sports by host nations. Yet the Games go on – every second year – just as they have done since 1959. In introducing sport to existing debates on regional community in Southeast Asia, this article seeks to understand the key features of the sporting community of the Southeast Asian Games, particularly the emergence and development of the institutions and norms that help this event to thrive in the face of national self-interest. Through this analysis, the article argues for a distinctive approach to regional community in Southeast Asia, based not on notions of unity but principles of reciprocity and exchange.

Iacono, F. "Opening the sea gates of Europe : interaction in the Southern Adriatic Sea during the Late Bronze Age." Thesis, University College London (University of London), 2013. http://discovery.ucl.ac.uk/1414546/.

Full text
Abstract:
This research analyses the modes and outcomes of economic and social interaction, adopting a theoretical framework that merges elements of Marxism and social network thinking. The focus is on the Bronze Age societies constituting the interface between the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe, the area around the Southern Adriatic Sea in the period from the establishment of the first regular contacts with the Aegean world, up to the end of the 2nd millennium BC. The primary medium through which the examination is carried out is pottery from a number of key sites in the region, which is analysed through a variety of methodologies, including contextual and stylistic comparison as well as formal network analyses. The study is organized as a diachronic enquiry in which evidence from a large number of contexts (examined in relation to both consumption and production) is deployed to discuss the development of three nested scales through which interaction took place. The first of these scales is the individual community, with the main case study provided by the long lived site of Roca in Apulia, which has yielded the largest amount of Aegean type material retrieved to date west of Greece. This material is largely unpublished and is comprehensively analysed for the first time. The second scale considers the region of Apulia on the western side of the Adriatic, which was the focus of intense interaction with the Aegean world during the second half of the 2nd millennium BC. The final scale encompasses much of the Mediterranean and assesses the long term and large scale implications of the phenomena observed at the site and region levels. The results of this study highlight the critical role played by southern Adriatic societies in establishing and maintaining interaction with other areas of the Mediterranean, and stresses at the same time the important social implications of such linkages.

Abstract:
A new heuristic method to improve the I/O pad assignment for the sea-of-gates placement algorithm "PROUD" is proposed. In PROUD, the preplaced I/O pads are used as the boundary conditions in solving sparse linear equations to obtain the optimal module placement. Due to the total wire length determined by the module positions is the strong function of the preplaced I/O pad positions, the optimization of the I/O pad circular order and their assignment to the physical locations on the chip are attempted in the thesis. The proposed I/O pad assignment program is used as a predecessor of PROUD. The results have revealed excellent improvement.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Currently, a gap exists between seminar-style shiphandling training and higher fidelity simulations available to the U.S. Navy Surface Warfare Officer (SWO). There is currently no individually accessible, low cost, intermediate level, interactive modality shiphandling resource that would allow SWOs to practice shiphandling skills without requiring instructor oversight. A student research team from the Naval Postgraduate Schools MOVES Institute exposed newly commissioned SWO students at the Surface Warfare Officers School to basic task scenarios designed to be complementary to material covered in their introductory course of instruction utilizing VSTEPs Ship Simulator Extremes game. The students completed the treatment task trainer protocol utilizing a Coast Guard High Endurance Cutter model and continued with the standard introductory course curriculum where they utilized the fully immersive Conning Officer Virtual Environment (COVE) shiphandling trainer. Students were later evaluated in COVE on their ability to maneuver a Guided Missile Destroyer, a similarly configured but larger ship, underway from a San Diego pier. The students exposed to the game-based scenarios performed at a statistically significantly higher level in the categories of Standard Commands and Margins of Safety Maintainedtwo key indicators of shiphandling proficiencyfollowing their normal course of instruction, than the control group. Also of note, the novice level students encountered difficulty in unlearning the handling characteristics of one model and learning a new one through the course of their instruction. Our findings suggest that an individually accessible, game based, shiphandling task trainer with ship models matching those found in the COVE and Full Mission Bridge would benefit newly commissioned SWOs by reinforcing classroom instruction. This trainer could potentially be used by SWOs of all skill levels as a self-study tool prior to participation in high level, fully immersive, and manpower intensive, naval shiphandling simulators.

Abstract:
AbstractOur understanding of when gaming ends and gambling begins is unclear. This has been hotly debated among theorists and the inclusion of gambling-like practices within digital games makes this even more indistinct, arguably subverting traditional notions of what it means to play. We are hyper-attuned to changes in game play because we know the learning power and potential of games and thus worry, rightly or wrongly, about their content: debate over loot boxes is the latest example of this. Whilst young people themselves have varied perspectives on whether wagering with or for in-game currency or items is gambling or not, they do tend to see these practices as coercive and as potentially addictive. They are acutely aware that these gambling-like mechanics do precisely what they were designed to—obtain money—raising broader questions about the ethics and responsibilities of the games industry as the creators of this content.

Abstract:
The Imeretinsky lowland – the central fragment of a large Black Sea terrace of the Caucasian coast of Russia, is located in interfluve the rivers Mzymty and Psou. In its central and western part large sports complexes of the winter Olympic Games "Sochi-2014" and the Olympic village are under construction. It has led to necessity of engineering protection of coast from the constructed port Imeretinsky to east board of cape of Konstantinovsky. In the report the site located from the Southern pier of port to the western board of cape of Konstantinovsky is considered. On a site the underwater canyon Novuy is located. To provide stability of a shore, the project of coastal protection now is realized. This project provides building in a surface part of a beach ferroconcrete grille on piles and a slope from concrete cubes. Before should be fill an artificial pebble beach in width not less than 50 m. As has shown inspection of coastal protection constructions, rates a beach lag behind rates of its washout. The width of a surface beach makes now no more than 13 m. For scoping executed embankments sandy a material comparison bathymetric shootings before port building (2007) has been made and April, 2012. By comparison is established that slept pebble the material is at the bottom and doesn't move waves on coast. Thus, massed filling the pebble material, coasts of Imeretinsky lowland spent recently on a considered site, haven't led to formation of a steady surface beach in design width of 50 m. On this site, and also on a site around Konstantinovsky's canyon updating of design decisions is required.

Abstract:
The interest to study the processes in the Imeretinka lowland increases in the last years due the few reasons. The main structures of so-called “coastal cluster” of Olympic Games 2014 built in this area. Some of planned structures effected significantly the coastal processes; they are the seaport near the river Mzimta mouth and coastal protection. The natural coastal processes in the area complicated by the effects of the underwater canyons. The natural-technogenic system requires the study with using the methods of modeling and monitoring. Wave climate of Imeretinka lowland coast estimated based on long-term data of meteorological fields above Black Sea with modeling of wave transformation in nearshore zone by the gentle slope equations. Such approach provides possibilities to assess the effect of the designed coastal protection structures on the changes of the wave parameters in nearshore zone. Numerical modeling of currents in the Black Sea using 3D circulation model with refinement in the region of canyons of the Imeretinka coast obtained. To estimate the sediment transport, 3D Lagrangian multifraction sediment transport model LagrSed is used. 2D flow fields, free-surface level and wave characteristics calculated, using 2D hydrodynamic model of the coastal zone. It has presented the few years story of modeling and monitoring of the coastal processes with the important lessons.

Abstract:
R/V Alkor Cruise AL543 was planned as a six-day cruise with a program of water column and sediment sampling in Kiel Bight and the western Baltic Sea. Due to restrictions related to the Covid-19 pandemic, the original plan had to be changed and the cruise was realized as six oneday cruises with sampling in Kiel Bight exclusively. The first day was dedicated to water column and sediment sampling for radionuclide analyses at Boknis Eck and Mittelgrund in Eckernförde Bay. On the remaining five days, water column, bottom water, sediment and pore water samples were collected at eleven stations covering different types of seafloor environment (grain size, redox conditions) in western Kiel Bight. The data and samples obtained on cruise AL543 will be used to investigate (i) the sedimentary cycling of bio-essential metals (e.g., nickel, zinc, and their isotopes) as a function of variable redox conditions, (ii) the impact of submarine groundwater discharge and diffusive benthic fluxes on the distribution of radium and radon as well as greenhouse gases (methane and nitrous oxide) in the water column, and (iii) to characterize and quantify the impact of coastal erosion on sedimentary iron, phosphorus and rare earth element cycling in Kiel Bight.
