Abstract:
The online searching of databases to retrieve bibliographical information is increasingly becoming common research practice in a wide range of disciplines. For the scholar of African studies there is as yet no single comprehensive database covering the literature from the continent on a multi-disciplinary basis; however there are a number of existing databases which serve as a useful and up-to-date bibliographical tool. The aim of this paper is briefly to outline those currently available databases which are of relevance to African studies and to offer some suggestions as to how this valuable service may best be utilised.Online information retrieval services first became readily available to the public in the early 1970s, chiefly in the area of science and technology.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to examine the agenda for library technology for the next 20 years. Design/methodology/approach A long-term historically based analysis of the evolving roles of librarians and library technology, especially the catalog. Findings The rise of standardized cataloging codes, communications formats, bibliographical utilities, and software for online searching constitutes a great triumph in universal bibliographical access for everybody. But each reader is unique and no-one is “everybody” so a uniform service is not ideal for all. The ideal librarian knows both the collection and the readers. The catalog is a guide to the collection and a surrogate for the librarian. The librarian understands the readers. The development of library technology will remain significantly incomplete until the uniqueness of each reader is accommodated. Some ways to do that are noted. Research limitations/implications Research and development should focus on relating the uniqueness of individuals to the uniformity of services provided. Practical implications Strategic directions are indicated. Originality/value Provides a perspective on the development of library service in terms of changing relationships between technology and librarians.

Abstract:
Background Sharing knowledge such as resources, research results, and scholarly documents, is of key importance to improving collaboration between researchers worldwide. Research results from the field of artificial intelligence (AI) are vital to share because of the extensive applicability of AI to several other fields of research. This has led to a significant increase in the number of AI publications over the past decade. The metadata of AI publications, including bibliometrics and altmetrics indicators, can be accessed by searching familiar bibliographical databases such as Web of Science (WoS), which enables the impact of research to be evaluated and identify rising researchers and trending topics in the field of AI. Problem description In general, bibliographical databases have two limitations in terms of the type and form of metadata we aim to improve. First, most bibliographical databases, such as WoS, are more concerned with bibliometric indicators and do not offer a wide range of altmetric indicators to complement traditional bibliometric indicators. Second, the traditional format in which data is downloaded from bibliographical databases limits users to keyword-based searches without considering the semantics of the data. Proposed solution To overcome these limitations, we developed a repository, named AI-SPedia. The repository contains semantic knowledge of scientific publications concerned with AI and considers both the bibliometric and altmetric indicators. Moreover, it uses semantic web technology to produce and store data to enable semantic-based searches. Furthermore, we devised related competency questions to be answered by posing smart queries against the AI-SPedia datasets. Results The results revealed that AI-SPedia can evaluate the impact of AI research by exploiting knowledge that is not explicitly mentioned but extracted using the power of semantics. Moreover, a simple analysis was performed based on the answered questions to help make research policy decisions in the AI domain. The end product, AI-SPedia, is considered the first attempt to evaluate the impacts of AI scientific publications using both bibliometric and altmetric indicators and the power of semantic web technology.

Abstract:
This contribution presents the principal features of ontologies, drawing special attention to the comparison between ontologies and the different kinds of knowledge organization systems (KOS). The focus is on the semantic richness exhibited by ontologies, which allows the creation of a great number of relationships between terms. That establishes ontologies as the most evolved type of KOS. The concepts of “conceptualization” and “formalization” and the key components of ontologies are described and discussed, along with upper and domain ontologies and special typologies, such as bibliographical ontologies and biomedical ontologies. The use of ontologies in the digital libraries environment, where they have replaced thesauri for query expansion in searching, and the role they are playing in the Semantic Web, especially for semantic interoperability, are sketched.

The main uses of computer in small libraries fall into two categories: (a) Communications with other computers for information and resource sharing. Online searching services such as Medline services are the most important application of the ficility. (b) Creation of in-house searchable databases, specific examples of which might include the library’s own catalogue, bibliographical indexes, subject information banks and directory type information. For operating the above mentioned subject, librarians need to have skills in using the computer as a tool in library administration using software for statistical computations etc. The following Dbase Program is for Check-in Periodicals in the Small Library with Personal Comuter. These basic databases will use the resources for Electronic Database Interchange which is a part of interlibrary loan system in future.

Abstract:
The main aim of this study is to highlight the deep relationship between Greek and Spanish culture in order to form the basis for the development of future policies that will lead to the further strengthening of relations between the two countries. In the modern era, countries are increasingly focusing on the creation of specialized mechanisms to shape their cultural policies. The development of cultural policy is an area of countries’ foreign policy and is based on one of the pillars supporting their soft power: culture. The aim of this study is to search for traces of Greek civilization in the Iberian Peninsula starting from the 8th century B.C. when the Greeks were found in ancient Iberia for commercial reasons. Our research then led us to Catalonia, a region of Spain that bases its diversity on its Greek roots. One question we must answer is whether the historical past linking Catalonia and Greece has contributed to the formation of its national identity. Finally, the aim is to look at the dissemination of the Greek element in Spain today, focusing on the dynamics of the learning of the Greek language in Spain, mainly in the field of higher education, since language is an important element of a country’s culture. In this context, an analysis is presented based both on bibliographical research on the evolution of the Greek element in the Iberian Peninsula and primary research on the Greek element, especially in the region of Catalonia. The present study aims to capture the traces of Greek culture in Spain and the ties that unite the two countries from antiquity to the present day in order to lead to new initiatives in the future for the further strengthening of relations between the two peoples.

Abstract:
This paper aims to provide a bibliometric analysis of the literature on oral and maxillofacial surgery, comparing different databases and discussing the advantages, disadvantages, and specific features of each one. A bibliographical search for oral and maxillofacial surgery literature was conducted on Pubmed, Scopus, Web of Science, Dimensions, SciELO, LILACS, and Google Scholar. Seven different search strategies were used on each database. VOSViewer and Microsoft Excel were used for tabulation and data visualization. Some statistical tests were performed with a 95% confidence interval, which was considered significant. A table comparing the number of articles obtained during seven different literature searches was created. A correlogram created in RStudio showed the correlation between the number of articles in the different databases evaluated. The functionalities of each database were compared. It is recommended to use more than one database when searching for literature related to surgery. Among the analyzed databases, PubMed stands out for its functionalities, precision, and quantity of available articles.

Abstract:
This study reports changes in online database searching at North Texas State University when equipment speed was increased. Data were from database vendor invoices and price and sale data of online equipment. The hypotheses examined the relationship between the decrease in the cost of online equipment and the change to faster online equipment and the change in the number of databases that changed for online types. The change in equipment was related to changes in the number of offline prints per hour, the average time per search, the average number of descriptors per search, the number of searches per month, and the rank order of database use over the studied period. The increase in the number of databases with billed types was related to the number of online billed types produced. The number of prints was related to the number of billed types. Time spent online was examined for annual seasonal cycles. The major statistical tool was time-series analysis, although other methods were applied.

Abstract:
Capes
Energy indicators are tools to support decision-making on energy. The growing debate on sustainable development, contributed to the energy indicators began to incorporate, besides the traditional economic, social and environmental information. Therefore, taking sustainable development into account, it is important to know contributions and limitations of these tools. The overall goal of this study is to analyze the contributions and limitations of the energy indicators as assets to support sustainable development. This study can be classified as descriptive because it relies on bibliographical and documental material. As a result of documental analysis, 55 energy indicators for sustainable development (EISD) were selected. The selection took place by identification of those indicators through the institutions International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Helio International and World Energy Council (WEC), among 19 institutions involved in research on energy identified in the survey. The study stresses that most of the selected indicators focuses on the economic dimension, 19 EISDs (34.54%), followed by 10 EISDs (18.18%) focused on the environmental dimension, 9 EISDs (16.36%) focused on the social issues, 7 EISDs (12.45%) are classified as resilience, 4 EISDs (7.27%) is about governance, 3 EISDs (5.45%) focused on vulnerability and 3 EISDs (5.45%) is about policy. Despite the inclusion of indicators associated with other dimensions than economy, information provided by those indicators emerges as their own limitation. Because, recently, indicators’ information were used to promote sustainable development as well as the opposite. Additionally, the study identified EISDs whose components were not specified. They may enable generation of information far from the real scenario, if components dissociated EISD would be taking into consideration or even the non-consideration of relevant components. Despite limitations, EISDs assisting decision-makers contributes to the pursuit of sustainable development. But they may be improved through information about environmental issues, such as emission of atmospheric pollutants, soil and water, resulting from energy sources, helps identifying which sources are more or less harmful for sustainable development. However, difficulty in collecting data, identifying the components for calculation of each indicator and even interpretation of this, as analyzed, may not only fail to contribute to sustainable development, as can delay taking corrective or preventive decisions.

Abstract:
In 1882 Joel Asaph Allen published his “Preliminary List of Works and Papers Relating to the Mammalian Orders Cete and Sirenia” as a Bulletin of the United States Geological and Geographical Survey of the Territories. That list, consisting of 1013 bibliographic records in chronological order from 1495 to 1840, was said to be one-third of the actual bibliography of a monograph on cetacean and sirenians on which Allen was working. Extensive archival searching has produced only the unpublished plates of the work. We have concluded that the monograph does not reside in any of the logical archival repositories.

Abstract:
Inflammation of the vestigial vermiform appendix is one of the main causes of acute abdomen in emergency departments. Clinical manifestations may vary according to the patient's age, position and size of the appendix. The diagnosis is eminently clinical, and may present laboratory and imaging alterations, contributing to diagnostic confirmation. In view of the variety of clinical manifestations and differential diagnoses of the acute abdomen, the diagnosis can be challenging. Considering that the late recognition of this condition can lead to serious complications, one should be clear about the possible clinical, laboratory and imaging findings. With that, the objective of this work was to present a clinical case and a review of the literature on the clinical findings present in acute appendicitis, contributing to the early diagnosis. To support the work, current bibliographical references were used, searching for articles in the PubMed, Scielo and Lilacs databases.

Abstract:
Abstract This chapter describes interpersonal psychotherapy (IPT) in Iran. IPT effectively treats major depressive disorder (MDD) and is well matched with Iranian culture, where interpersonal relations are important and people consider themselves part of a family and a community before they see themselves as individuals. Indeed, Iranian culture values relationships, especially family ties. To understand the extent of the dissemination of IPT across Iran and learn of adaptations made for the Iranian cultural context, the authors conducted searches in 6 bibliographical databases (Google Scholar, SID, Magiran, Sivilica, Irandoc, and Adineh book) by searching “interpersonal psychotherapy” in Persian. These studies show that adaptations of IPT retained its basic structure. However, it may be unacceptable to directly ask about some subjects and issues in questionnaires. Areas to assess carefully relate to sexual relationships, having a friend of the opposite sex, and substance/alcohol misuse or addiction. The chapter then looks at a case example before reflecting on the future of IPT in Iran.

Full text
Abstract:
Seed production is an important stage in the biological cycle of plants. However, insects can interrupt this cycle, directly attacking fruits and seeds, which can influence the abundance and distribution of species. Insects are considered the main responsible for seed predation, and the main spermatophagous Orders are: Diptera, Hymenoptera, Coleoptera and Lepidoptera. In this way, the aim of this study was to identify the insects that attack the seeds sold by the Rede de Sementes do Portal da Amazônia. This analysis was carried out with seed samples sent by the seed network, and also through bibliographical research searching for predation records for species sold by the Seed Network. The groups of spermatophagous insects that were present in forest species were identified, identifying them at the level of Order, Family, Subfamily and, when possible, species. Thus, it was found that predation by these insects occurred on seeds of 15 forest species from seed houses and 12 species that are part of the list of species offered by the seed network. The main orders identified causing damage were: Coleoptera and Lepidoptera, showing a greater predominance of attack by coleoptera. Thus, there was a significant attack and record of spermatophagous insects on the seeds of native forest species in the region, mainly from the order Coleoptera.

Abstract:
This chapter analyzes how literary meaning can be recovered under conditions of information overload. It discusses revitalizing debates over New Historical evidentiary practices that have become exponentially more powerful with the rise of digital databases. The chapter also discusses how the nineteenth century's expansion of archives and concomitant attention to bibliographic processes impelled some literary thinkers to assert a special authority in matters of archival searching. As if to vindicate the value of literary judgment, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Charles Dickens imagine the aesthetic retrieval of exceptionally meaningful texts, though in doing so they turn away from close reading and toward the management of information. An obverse irony is evident in reference books designed to manage textual excess, including the antiquarian journal Notes and Queries and John Bartlett's Familiar Quotations, both of which privilege organization over aesthetics but cannot help but admit the pleasures of texts.

Abstract:
The use of modern methods of thematic analysis for the analytical processing of information is currently used in almost all areas of human activity, including scientometrics. Many scientometric and citation systems, including the world famous WoS, Scopus, Google Shcolar, develop thematic categories for searching and processing information. Most important tasks that can be solved using thematic classification methods are: assessment of the dynamics of the development of thematic areas in the organization, country and in world science; search for articles on a given topic; search and assessment of the authority of experts; search for journal for publication and other relevant tasks. The Lomonosov Moscow State University is currently developing and using the system ISTINA. In this project, algorithms have been created that solve some of the problems listed. Scientific research is underway to create new effective mathematical models and algorithms in this area.

Abstract:
The experience of the Central Scientific Agricultural Library (CSAL) in organizing search and access to information using the database “Authority file: research institutions in agricultural field” of its own generation is presented. The possibilities of searching based on authority data in the format of a separate information resource and in the bibliographic database “AGROS” are described. It is noted that the authority file provides unification of data, identification of objects, access to bibliographic and full-text information, serves as a source of reference and historical information about institutions. The growing role of authority files in the web environment is emphasized.

Abstract:
Access to online journals, bibliographic databases, online catalogues and the Internet have altered the traditional library usage patterns, behaviors and expectations of modern library users over the last few decades. Online searching has become the norm and users always expect Google or Wikipedia style access to the library resources. Libraries should have a mechanism for supporting these expectations and behaviors to provide a quality customer service and to fulfill their mission to support teaching, learning and research. Since 2003, the Library has provided access to many online resources. In the beginning of 2003, the IEE initiated giving access to online versions of their journals, along with print subscriptions, on a complimentary basis. Under this scheme, the Library of the University of Moratuwa gained access to 17 online journals in 2003. In year 2013, the library subscribed to 5 full text databases and 28 individual online journals and magazines. ACM Digital Library, Emerald, IEEE Explore, Grove Art Online and Science Direct are databases that are available for year 2013. Other than these subscribed electronic resources, library has introduced number of free e-journals and e-books to its users. Many surveys have been conducted to investigate library users’ acceptance and use of electronic resources (Groote & Dorch, 2001; Rusch-Feja & Siebeky, 1999). Their findings have indicated a decrease in the use of print journals suggesting online journals as the most preferred source in finding research literature. Punchihewa (2008) conducted a similar study to identify user attitudes towards online resources at the Library, University of Moratuwa. In his study, Punchihewa further analysed the obstacles that users have to face when accessing online resources. Unavailability of remote access was the prominent obstacle highlighted by many users in that study. Kiriella (2010) has stated the users’ requests to improve the facilities provided for accessing e-resources collection of the library.

Abstract:
Introduction: Demyelinating diseases are a heterogeneous group of neurological diseases related to autoimmunity whose representative is Multiple Sclerosis (MS). It is characterized by an immune-mediated demyelination of the central nervous system, with a typical outbreak and remission clinic. During pregnancy, a reduction in disease activity was noted due to immunomodulatory effects, and an increase in outbreaks in the puerperium. Thus, our goal is to demonstrate the relationship between pregnancy and MS. Methods: This is a systematic bibliographic review based on searching the SCIELO, PUBMED and UPTODATE databases using the words “Multiple Sclerosis”, “Pregnancy”, “Demyelinating diseases” and “Neurological Disorders”. Discussion: Pregnancy is responsible for numerous changes in the maternal body resulting from hormonal changes with an immunological and neuroprotective effect. Until the beginning of the 20th century, it was considered a risk factor or precipitator of outbreaks in these patients. In 1950, Tillmann et al. questioned him and concluded that pregnancy reduces the risk of outbreaks of the disease and that relapses were more associated with postpartum. The question is still raised by several authors, due to their interest in the search for intricate protective factors in the genesis and cure of the disease. It is believed that immunological changes in pregnancy tend to suppress the maternal immune system preventing fetal rejection, and together with gestational hormones, they are able to make neuronal tissue more resistant to inflammatory aggression and greater capacity for cell repair. In the puerperium, there was an increase in outbreaks of the disease, probably associated with a reduction in hormone levels, the effects of which are lost after the elimination of the fetus. Breastfeeding is not associated with the prevention or risk of new MS outbreaks. The frequency of outbreaks before conception is the only independent predictor of new post-term episodes. There is no consensus regarding the therapeutic approach in these pregnant women. Conclusion: Evidence supports the association between pregnancy, reduced activity of MS and increased activity in the 3 months postpartum, due to the probable loss of neuroprotective effects associated with hormones. Recommendations regarding the use of immunomodulator are suspended before conception (“washout”) until term. New evidence did not associate the use of interferon-β with abortion, cesarean section or low birth weight. There was a benefit of long-term parity with a cumulative effect on the patient’s immunohumor modulation.
