Abstract:
This work is a bibliographical research, which is a systematic review without meta-analysis, performed in various national and international journals and proceedings in the International Conferences on Concept Maps (CM) aiming to analyze how the researches which make use of CM are being developed as an assessment tool to of student learning and it also establishes criteria to evaluatethem. The goal in using CM is to check students learning process regarding to the contents learned in the classroom, getting information about the concepts learned significantly, as well as those who have not been learned or learned incorrectly, making sure that these same students were able to establish connections between the new concepts and the already existing knowledge in their cognitive structure. It was observed through the analysis of the methodology of the researched articles, that there is a significant number of works, from a universe of 105, making use of CM as an assessment tool in different areas, including Physics, and with different methodologies. It was also noticeable a certain concern from the authors in establishing criteria to check/assess whether CM prepared by students achieved the desired goals. It is hoped that this research can guide teachers/researchers who intend to work with such an tool of learning assessment, which, although greatly important to education, is not widely used in the educational environment

Research as a teaching practice contributes to knowledge acquisition and production, and, with that in mind, students need to be guided to use sources of information as well as information and communication technology resources. Considering that, this study aimed at developing a website that showed the basic step-by-step guidelines to academic research and research paper development with the aid of communication and information technology. The theoretical underpinning was based on the observation of scientific research paper writings seen as a genre with its own peculiarities that need observation and guidance. Information Technologies are conceived as means by which researches have a certain freedom to improve scientific knowledge and /or help teaching through research. The methodological procedures were divided into three (3) steps: an exploratory one; a technological development and a quantitative step to validate the final product. The first step was a literature review about research and the use of technologies as a help for research activities in order to organize the website content to be developed. The second step was the making of the product with the participation of a multidisciplinary team. The product was developed on the Word Press Platform that has HTML, PHP and data bank so that it can be used with other gadgets such as: PC, Tablet and Cell phones. Lastly, the third step, with the use of a quantitative method of research, was the assessment of the website in three (3) distinct steps: questionnaire validation by specialists; (2) questionnaire validation and website analysis by means of a pilot study and (3) final website validation. The quantitative research has validated all the previous steps of the study given that the obtained results of the final validation have assessed the website with a “Very Satisfactory” level of satisfaction. The use of the developed product during data collection in the final assessment made it possible to infer that the website will be used as a support for research activities by both students and teachers.

Abstract:
This study reports changes in online database searching at North Texas State University when equipment speed was increased. Data were from database vendor invoices and price and sale data of online equipment. The hypotheses examined the relationship between the decrease in the cost of online equipment and the change to faster online equipment and the change in the number of databases that changed for online types. The change in equipment was related to changes in the number of offline prints per hour, the average time per search, the average number of descriptors per search, the number of searches per month, and the rank order of database use over the studied period. The increase in the number of databases with billed types was related to the number of online billed types produced. The number of prints was related to the number of billed types. Time spent online was examined for annual seasonal cycles. The major statistical tool was time-series analysis, although other methods were applied.

Abstract:
Capes
Energy indicators are tools to support decision-making on energy. The growing debate on sustainable development, contributed to the energy indicators began to incorporate, besides the traditional economic, social and environmental information. Therefore, taking sustainable development into account, it is important to know contributions and limitations of these tools. The overall goal of this study is to analyze the contributions and limitations of the energy indicators as assets to support sustainable development. This study can be classified as descriptive because it relies on bibliographical and documental material. As a result of documental analysis, 55 energy indicators for sustainable development (EISD) were selected. The selection took place by identification of those indicators through the institutions International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Helio International and World Energy Council (WEC), among 19 institutions involved in research on energy identified in the survey. The study stresses that most of the selected indicators focuses on the economic dimension, 19 EISDs (34.54%), followed by 10 EISDs (18.18%) focused on the environmental dimension, 9 EISDs (16.36%) focused on the social issues, 7 EISDs (12.45%) are classified as resilience, 4 EISDs (7.27%) is about governance, 3 EISDs (5.45%) focused on vulnerability and 3 EISDs (5.45%) is about policy. Despite the inclusion of indicators associated with other dimensions than economy, information provided by those indicators emerges as their own limitation. Because, recently, indicators’ information were used to promote sustainable development as well as the opposite. Additionally, the study identified EISDs whose components were not specified. They may enable generation of information far from the real scenario, if components dissociated EISD would be taking into consideration or even the non-consideration of relevant components. Despite limitations, EISDs assisting decision-makers contributes to the pursuit of sustainable development. But they may be improved through information about environmental issues, such as emission of atmospheric pollutants, soil and water, resulting from energy sources, helps identifying which sources are more or less harmful for sustainable development. However, difficulty in collecting data, identifying the components for calculation of each indicator and even interpretation of this, as analyzed, may not only fail to contribute to sustainable development, as can delay taking corrective or preventive decisions.

ENGLISH ABSTRACT: We present a system that uses statistical machine learning to identify and extract bibliography information from scientific literature. Techniques for finding and gathering useful information from the ever growing volume of knowledge on the World Wide Web (WWW), are investigated. We use hidden Markov models both for recognition of bibliography styles and extraction of bibliographic information with an accuracy of up to 97%. The accuracy with which we are able to extract this information allows us to present a case study in which we apply methods of citation analysis to information extracted from three areas of machine learning. We use this information to identify core sets of papers that have made significant contributions to the fields of hidden Markov models, neural networks and recurrent neural networks.

Abstract:
Research shows children in an online environment often search by browsing, which relies heavily on recognition and content knowledge, so catalog systems for children must use effective symbols or pictorial representations, which correspond with children's own cognitive schema and level of recognition knowledge. This study was designed to look at the success of young children (ages 5 to 8) in searching 3 online public library catalogs designed for them, and it focused specifically on the pictorial representations and text descriptors used in the systems' browsing hierarchy. The research sought answer whether young children (ages 5 to 8) are really poor searchers because of cognitive development and lack of technology skills or if system design is the major reason for poor search results; i.e., Do current children's online catalog designs function in a manner that is compatible with information seeking by children? Although these results can not be generalized, this study indicates that there was a disconnect between the cognitive abilities of young users and catalog design. The study looked at search success on the 3 catalogs in relation to the catalog characteristics and individual user characteristics and makes 3 significant contributions to the field of library and information science. The first contribution is the modification of an existing model posed by Cooper and O'Connor and modified by Abbas (2002). The second significant contribution is the proposal of a new model, Creel's second best choice (SBC) model, that addresses the cognitive gap and design flaws that impact the choices participants made. The third significant contribution is that this study addresses and fills a gap in the literature.

Abstract:
The general objective of this dissertation was to analyze the profile of publications on natural capital in the metropolitan region of Curitiba (RMC). The research was based on the analytical model proposed by Meadows, in the approach of the three capitals (natural capital, social capital and built capital), using specifically the "lens" natural capital. This analysis will seek to establish relationships and correlations between the scientific production and the chosen territorial context, demonstrating how the natural capital of the region is portrayed within the scientific production on the same. As a methodology, the research is based on systematic review and content analysis, using a mixed method to quantitatively and qualitatively characterize the scientific production carried out in the MRC from 1992 to 2017. From the categorization of natural capital into eight categories , it was possible to infer about the main thematic and temporal trends of research, besides evaluating this profile from the indicators of quality, impact factor, SJR and SNIP. There was a greater thematic tendency on the biodiversity theme, justified by the high number of sources and forest remnants in the region, but when the number of citations is observed, air / climate publications have greater visibility in the scientific community.

Abstract:
The proliferation ofinformation available in electronic format has been perpetuated by rapid technological advances. Users have a choice between print and electronic resources. At the same time, the use of these resources is determined by what is available to the users and what the users prefer. Problems that users encounter when accessing these resources determine the use of print and electronic resources. The current study evaluated the use of, and preference for, print and electronic resources by students at the University of Malawi College of Medicine. The study population comprised 179 undergraduate students. A self-administered questionnaire was used to establish the students' use of, and preference for, print and electronic resources, reasons for their preferences and the problems they encountered in accessing print and electronic resources. An interview schedule was used to elicit background information from the College Librarian on issues of budgeting, technological infrastructure, licensing and copyright agreements, archiving and library staff and training. Questionnaire results were quantitatively analysed and presented in terms of frequency tables and graphs. Interview results were analysed qualitatively. The study findings show that the students used both print and electronic resources. However, print resources were more heavily used than electronic ones. The students also preferred print resources to electronic. A lack of sufficient computers and low levels of computer and information literacy contributed to the underutilisation of electronic resources. Recommendations in terms of technological infrastructure, user training, staff training, user support and archiving were made based on the findings of the study.

Abstract:
Described as accommodating both traditional and new information spaces (Fourie 2002: 53), the Web has significantly changed the milieu of research and study. The study determined how this changing research and study environment has affected the research behaviour of students in African higher education environments, specifically at the research entry level of master's degree programmes. The study examined both explicit examples of the affect of the Web on students' citation behaviour and tacit influences that may have determined the extent of this affect. Explicit examples of the affect of the Web were drawn from analysing changes in the citation patterns of Master of Information Studies (MIS) theses during a period of access to the Web, and specifically in the years 1996, 1999 and 2002. Tacit influences on students' citation behaviour were inferred from an investigation of the level and nature of MIS supervisors' use and support of the Web for research and of a background study of the facilities, resources and services supporting student access to the Web at the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg. Findings of this study concluded that the use of the Web medium has grown and in 2002 accounted for 17.5% of all citations included in MIS bibliographies. However use of this medium is disparate with a few bibliographies accounting for much of this growth. Findings indicated that the Web medium was mostly utilised for the delivery of sources that do not meet the traditional description of a scholarly source. The study also found that the Web was used as an alternative medium for the delivery of informal and grey literature sources without necessarily increasing the level of use of these sources. The study revealed greater support for this medium from the masters programme's supervisors than was evidenced from a citation analysis of the bibliographies of theses. Disparities in the support of this medium for research, within the University of Natal, Pietermaritzburg's supporting infrastructure was also observed. Recommendations drawn from these conclusions include the need for greater intervention from teaching faculty, librarians and the institution in the provision of clear guidelines of expectations, relevant instruction and sufficient physical access at points of expertise, to effectively support the use of Web resources.
