Abstract:
Parkinson's disease (PD) is a common neurodegenerative condition characterized by progressive motor, speech, swallowing, and gait difficulties. Risk factors for PD include male sex, pesticide exposure, head trauma, and rural living, but these account for only a small amount of the variation in risk. Recent studies suggest that for many neurological diseases, people born at a certain time of year are at higher risk of developing the disease. Small-scale studies have also suggested that persons born in the spring may be at higher risk of developing PD late in life. We examined the birth dates of

Abstract:
The relationship between Sertoli cell lipid inclusions and spermatogenic activity was investigated using light microscopy and morphometric analysis of the lipid droplet content of Sertoli cells and spermatids from the seasonal breeding mink. Tissue was obtained and analyzed each month during a twelve month period to establish the presence of seasonal and stage-related cycles of lipid droplet content in these cells. It is concluded that the amount of lipid inclusions in Sertoli cells varies with the degree of spermatogenic activity being lowest after the release of mature spermatids in the lume

Abstract:

Very little information is available on the Hawaiian Oyster Dendostrea sandvicensis in regards to its biology and physiology. Efforts were made to better understand the active reproductive season of this oyster by studying the population located in He'eia fish pond in Kaneohe Bay, O`ahu. This study focused on the condition index (CI) and gonadal developmental stage trends, measured from monthly oyster tissue samples from January to December 2009. The relationship between CI and temperature was examined. Results suggest CI is not related to temperature. Further analysis define

Abstract:
Individuals are believed to benefit in various ways from living in groups. Some species aggregate to increase foraging efficiency and others for social benefits. Why pinnipeds rest in groups is yet not fully understood, but the most common ecological explanation is the benefit of enhanced predator detection. An alternative explanation for grouping, however, is limitation of resting sites, which might force individuals to aggregate on whatever sites are available, despite increased competition for food or mates. My study is focused on group size of harbor seals (Phoca vitulina) hauled out on gl
