Full textResearches surrounding bilingual and multilingual children have found differences in terms of age of language acquisition onset and the sociolinguistic context in which the languages are spoken. These variables provided the base for the distinction between simultaneous and sequantial bilingual children whose bilingualism differs in terms of acquisition patterns and rates of the languages, as well as proficiency levels in each language. This study focused on the Chinese-second generation sequential bilingual children born in Italy and living in the city of Prato, which has been invested from a relevant phenomenon of Chinese immigration since the nineties. Five Chinese-Italian speaking children from primary and secondary school were investigated. Their language behaviour and attitude, and oral and written proficieny in Italian, as well as oral proficiency in Chinese, were measured quantitatively and qualitatively. Based on frequency of errors in Italian, we identified the Italian prepositions as vulnerable domains, and articles and pronouns as less vulnerable domains. As far as the Chinese proficiency level is concerned, we found that students made errors in the grammar domain of classifiers; the phenomenon can be related to a similar sociolinguistic pattern that has been registered in oral and written modern Chinese. In conclusion, the analysis of the data reveals that all the children investigated are dominant in Italian, but the community languages – dialect and putonghua - are still strongly sustained in the community itself. This has consequences on the development of a postive attitude towards bilingualism.

Full textIn GEN III+ systems the correct modelization of the reflector zone is a key step for an exact prediction of the cell parameters whose values directly affect the radial power distribution of the core system. This need has become even more necessary after the discovery of the amplification of the “tilt power” phenomenon in the GEN III+ nuclear core. For this reason, special care is taken in the modelization methodology and in the generation of reflector homogenized cross-section and discontinuity factor (DFs) on the reflector zone. The deterministic package code used for the cell data calculation is SCALE 6.1.3 suite. The strong difference in the neutronic properties at core/reflector interface combined with a high geometric heterogeneity between a core and a reflector system have suggested to perform a preliminary analysis on the GEN II reflector system as presented by NEA-NSC-DOC (2013) benchmark with the aim of testing the capability of the deterministic code to perform a correct calculation on a 1-D assembly/reflector modelization. The results, which are in good agreement with those evaluated with SERPENT 2.0 Monte Carlo code, confirmed the capability of SCALE code to perform cell data reflector calculations. The modelization analysis on the GEN III+ reflector system has been performed for two homogeneous configurations and for a series of exact heterogeneous zones along the angular direction of the reflector. It has been also realized a sensitivity analysis on operational and code parameters. Finally, it was performed a 2x2 color-set calculation to investigate the 2-D geometry effects on the numerical values of cell reflector parameters. The final results are an improvement in the scientific knowledge of the reflector cell data values. These values can be used in a EPR nodal code calculation for a more accurate assessment of the core power distribution and of the “power tilt” values.

Full textMy dissertation, titled “Stigmatisation and Deviance: The Case of the Second Generation Immigrants in the Schools of Emilia-Romagna”, focuses on the connections existing between second generation children, schooling, feelings of stigmatization and self-esteem, and deviance. The study is constituted by a self-report survey of a sample of almost 5,000 students enrolled in the eighth grade of 28 junior high schools in the region Emilia-Romagna (the students ranged from the status of “completely” Italian to “completely” foreign, with many nuances in between). Respondents were administered a questionnaire in the classroom, and asked to answer questions focusing on socio-biographical factors, socio-economic conditions, value-orientation, and self-reported deviant behaviour. Regression and path analysis were conducted on the data, and an interpretative model was developed based on the findings. The study results offered no evidence of a higher frequency or seriousness of self-reported deviance among young “second-generation” immigrants compared to Italians. The findings suggested that – both for Italian and immigrant respondents – self-reported deviant behaviour appears to be strongly related to generational conflict, the perception of stigma, and weak family bonds. Moreover, the study reached the conclusion that even if there was no evidence of a higher involvement with deviance among second-generation children, however feelings of inadequacy caused especially by school experiences (as measured by lower levels of achievement and higher exposition to school punishments) were more strongly linked to confessions of deviant behaviours than for Italians. Furthermore, the feeling of stigma as well as the involvement in deviance grew together with the length of stay in Italy, a phenomenon that could be explained by the increasing frustration with the rising expectations of integration, which are typical of second-generation migrants compared to their first-generation elders.

Full textThe course of the research shown in this work had the aim to observe and investigate complex and contemporaries processes such as the "birth", even in Italy, both of a second generation of immigration and of an increasing digitalization. The intent of the work, moreover, is to try to get the relationships and the deep interrelationships between them. The peculiarity and the complexity of these observed processes has instead a methodological reflection which can therefore be considered one of the focus of the research itself.

Full textThe main purpose of the research is the study of the french model of the Cooperatives of activities and employment (CAE). The model of CAE offers to self-employed workers one way to obtain both the same rights of employees, without losing their autonomy in the management of their business, and the opportunity to cooperate with other professionals. Within this main goal, the thesis is articulated in three parts. In the first part, the research studies the context that supported the development of the “self-employed of second-generation”, its main features and the reasons that drive this kind of worker to collaborate and cooperate with other professionals. In the second part, the research describes the model of the Cooperatives of activities and employment (CAE) and analyses the Parisian CAE Coopaname. In the third part, the research focuses on the transferability of the model of the CAE in Italy, starting from the study of the Italian context and concluding with the comparison of Coopaname with the Italian cooperative Doc Servizi.
