Last January, the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union produced an estimate that, by the year 2035, the drones' sector will create up to 100,000 new jobs and, in addition, will have an economic impact of more than ten billion euros per year. This chapter takes its cue precisely from the central importance of unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones, and tries to sum up their future. Indeed, despite the enormous success of drones over the decades, many are the criticisms related to unmanned aircraft on board. The first section aims at outlining an historical framework, while the second section analyses the impressive role played by drones within the counterterrorism policy of the US presidency, with particular regard to Barack Obama's mandate. The third section applies a SWOT type analysis to UAVs, taking into account both their advantages and disadvantages. Finally, the fourth section investigates the human factor problem within UAVs, which was inspired by Dr. Giovanni Miranda's PhD thesis.

This chapter describes the relationship between the Organisation pour l’Harmonisation en Afrique du Droit des Affaires (OHADA; the Organization for the Harmonization of Business Law in Africa) and the Hague Principles. OHADA is an African supranational organization which was created on October 17, 1993. As per the Preamble and Article 1 of the OHADA Treaty, OHADA aims at creating simple, modern, and harmonized business law rules in Africa. To achieve this goal, OHADA has five institutions: (i) the Conference of Heads of State and Government; (ii) the Council of Ministers; (iii) the Common Court of Justice and Arbitration; (iv) the Regional Training Centre for Legal Officers; and (v) the Permanent Secretariat. Uniform Acts are the main instrument of OHADA. To understand the rules governing choice of law in commercial international contracts under OHADA law, it is important to examine the relation between the acts of OHADA (Uniform Acts and regulations) and the domestic law of the Member States. Meanwhile, there is no uniform codification of private international law under OHADA law. The chapter then explains that the Working Group on the Preliminary Draft Uniform Act on the Law of Obligations in the OHADA Region in 2015 did not use the Hague Principles, and why this omission should be reversed.

As noted in the Hanover Research report mentioned in Chapter 3, an increase in competition among schools has led to many administrators thinking more about students and parents as customers—and not simply as people who are required by certain geographical boundaries to attend a particular school. As a result, some educators have turned to companies that are known for outstanding customer service in order to improve the culture of their schools. Others have found inspiration in the work of Stephen Covey or other experts on leadership and effective business practices. In the Tulsa Public Schools, for example, leaders recognized inconsistencies in how people were treated when they went into a school’s front office, which can sometimes become like what one district official described as a “three- ring circus.” They’ve since taken several approaches to improving how secretaries and other office staff members in the district receive new parents and students. “When we enroll a child in our schools, we’re engaging with the whole family,” says Jane Barnes, the director of staff development and leadership training for the district. Some schools have received training from local Chick-fil-A and QuikTrip franchises in Tulsa. And now the district is providing additional professional development to school office staff members on how to be more attentive to families who walk in the door and leave a “positive, memorable impression.” Barnes says receptionists and other office employees need opportunities to practice various scenarios in which they interact with families. The training also focuses on strengthening the collegial relationships among those working in a school office and improving their skills in communicating with Hispanic families. Other districts across the country have taken lessons from “the happiest place on earth” on how to make schools more inviting and improve relationships with families. In a piece for Forbes.com, contributor Carmine Gallo wrote about how Disney employees have a way of making everyone feel that they are special. “Disney employees are trained to be ‘Assertively Friendly.’ Disney team members are encouraged to actively seek contact with guests,” he wrote.

Abstract:
This paper presents an evaluation of Formal Safety Assessment framework for cargo ships at coasts and open seas of Turkey. Based on Turkish Under secretariat of Maritime Affairs casualty reports, this study identifies risk factors that have significant, independent effects upon the likelihood of ship and offshore operations. A case study is carried out to determine the most common causes of unintentional damages on cargo ships using FSA.
