The Partido Socialista Obrero Español (PSOE) has been interpreted as exceptional among its European counterparts because of its internal divisions, radicalization and the impossibility of reaching cross-cutting agreements. This article demonstrates how, during the 1930s, the PSOE's evolution went hand in hand with other socialist parties in Europe, especially with the Section Française de l’International Ouvrière (SFIO). In particular, this article focuses on the views of the Spanish socialist factions – prietismo and caballerismo – on the formation and development of the Popular Front in Spai

Abstract This article looks at relations between Europeans and Africans within the sections of the Section française de l’Internationale ouvrière (SFIO) in sub-Saharan Africa. It is based on documentation and correspondence sent to the Paris Centre, mostly by Europeans, and held at the Office universitaire de recherche socialiste (OURS). There were, however, significant differences between the sections in French West Africa (Ivory Coast and Guinea) and those in French East Africa (Chad, Oubangui-Chari, Congo-Brazzaville) and Cameroon. Abstract This article explores the role of the Section française de l’Internationale ouvrière (SFIO) in the Second International and its response to international crises that threatened European peace before World War I. By 1914, the Second International had developed a unified antimilitarist stance, co-ordinating efforts through the International Socialist Bureau (ISB) against wars, exemplified during the Moroccan crises of 1905 and 1911 and the Italo–Turkish War (1911–12). The article investigates the SFIO’s engagement in antiwar activism, its interactions with the Partito Socialista Italian

Abstract:
Abstract The presence of French socialism in the Argentine Socialist Party is something of a paradox: the cultural weight of France in Argentina’s intellectual and artistic life from the nineteenth century until the first decades of the twentieth century had no equivalent impact on Argentine socialism. This is even more striking if we consider the intensity of personal exchanges, including a visit by Jean Jaurès to Buenos Aires in 1911. Of course, Francophilia was not unknown to these socialists, but their main leaders adopted a mostly critical approach towards French traditions, and later tow
