Drawing on an historical perspective and a migration studies conceptualization, this article seeks to rethink the concept of privilege and lifestyle migration as it refers to patterns of U.S. immigration to Costa Rica from the end of WWII and up until the late 1970s, several decades before the concept of privilege migration became a buzz word in migration studies, and before Costa Rica itself became a prime destination for privilege migrants. Based on oral histories gathered by the author in 2009 from tens of U.S. American men and women who moved to the country between 1950 and 1980, the artic

Even before the war Max Brod as well as Walter Benjamin recognized the humorous dimension in Kafka's texts, much of which lies in word plays and gesture; otherwise, the humour in Kafka was largely ignored, especially after WWII. Realizing that WWI was turning into a durable military conflict, the French Army created a Cinematographic Section (SCA) in 1915 for the purposes of war propaganda and documentation. Song lyrics and titles most often invoke dominant readings such as intimacy, privacy, nurture, refuge, connectedness and shared belonging, all issues found within Blunt and Dowling’s analysis. The second phase took place during the economic boom from the 1970s to the 1980s, at that time the industry became more organised but opaque. Many believe that pachinko owners are gangsters o

Later still it was appropriated and twisted by Nazi ideology and that of white supremacy.
