We present a method to compute the degrees of the Segre classes of a subscheme of complex projective space. The method is based on generic residuation and intersection theory. We provide a symbolic implementation using the software system Macaulay2 and a numerical implementation using the software package Bertini.

Abstract:

AbstractWe generalize the Chern class relation for the transversal intersection of two nonsingular varieties to a relation for possibly singular varieties, under a splayedness assumption. We show that the relation for the Chern–Schwartz–MacPherson classes holds for two splayed hypersurfaces in a nonsingular variety, and under a strong splayedness assumption for more general subschemes. Moreover, the relation is shown to hold for the Chern–Fulton classes of any two splayed subschemes. The main tool is a formula for Segre classes of splayed subschemes. We also discuss the Chern class relation under the assumption that one of the varieties is a general very ample divisor.

Abstract:

Abstract We show that there is a unique hypersurface of minimal degree passing through the non-faces of a polytope which is defined by a simple hyperplane arrangement. This generalizes the construction of the adjoint curve of a polygon by Wachspress (A rational finite element basis, Academic Press, New York, 1975). The defining polynomial of our adjoint hypersurface is the adjoint polynomial introduced by Warren (Adv Comput Math 6:97–108, 1996). This is a key ingredient for the definition of Wachspress coordinates, which are barycentric coordinates on an arbitrary convex polytope. The adjoint polynomial also appears both in algebraic statistics, when studying the moments of uniform probability distributions on polytopes, and in intersection theory, when computing Segre classes of monomial schemes. We describe the Wachspress map, the rational map defined by the Wachspress coordinates, and the Wachspress variety, the image of this map. The inverse of the Wachspress map is the projection from the linear span of the image of the adjoint hypersurface. To relate adjoints of polytopes to classical adjoints of divisors in algebraic geometry, we study irreducible hypersurfaces that have the same degree and multiplicity along the non-faces of a polytope as its defining hyperplane arrangement. We list all finitely many combinatorial types of polytopes in dimensions two and three for which such irreducible hypersurfaces exist. In the case of polygons, the general such curves are elliptic. In the three-dimensional case, the general such surfaces are either K3 or elliptic.

AbstractIn our previous paper [J. Funke and J. Millson, Cycles with local coefficients for orthogonal groups and vector-valued Siegel modular forms, American J. Math. 128 (2006), 899–948], we established a correspondence between vector-valued holomorphic Siegel modular forms and cohomology with local coefficients for local symmetric spaces $X$ attached to real orthogonal groups of type $(p, q)$. This correspondence is realized using theta functions associated with explicitly constructed ‘special’ Schwartz forms. Furthermore, the theta functions give rise to generating series of certain ‘special cycles’ in $X$ with coefficients.In this paper, we study the boundary behaviour of these theta functions in the non-compact case and show that the theta functions extend to the Borel–Sere compactification $ \overline{X} $ of $X$. However, for the $ \mathbb{Q} $-split case for signature $(p, p)$, we have to construct and consider a slightly larger compactification, the ‘big’ Borel–Serre compactification. The restriction to each face of $ \overline{X} $ is again a theta series as in [J. Funke and J. Millson, loc. cit.], now for a smaller orthogonal group and a larger coefficient system.As an application we establish in certain cases the cohomological non-vanishing of the special (co)cycles when passing to an appropriate finite cover of $X$. In particular, the (co)homology groups in question do not vanish. We deduce as a consequence a sharp non-vanishing theorem for ${L}^{2} $-cohomology.

AbstractWe use Godeaux–Serre varieties of finite groups, projective representation theory, the twisted Atiyah–Segal completion theorem, and our previous work on the topological period-index problem to compute the étale index of Brauer classes α ∈ Brét(X) in some specific examples. In particular, these computations show that the étale index of α differs from the period of α in general. As an application, we compute the index of unramified classes in the function fields of high-dimensional Godeaux–Serre varieties in terms of projective representation theory.

Math.15(4) (1972) 259–331] dans le cas où les invariants modulaires considérés sont algébriques sur Q, et des résultats de G. Shimura dans le cas transcendant [Introduction to the Arithmetic Theory of Automorphic Functions, Publications of the Mathematical Society of Japan (Princeton University Press, Princeton, NJ, 1994)]. In this article, it is shown that Galois orbits of invariants associated with non-CM and pairwise isogeneous complex elliptic curves equidistribute in the classical modular curve towards the hyperbolic probability measure. The proof is based on arguments from ergodic theory, especially Ratner's theorem on unipotent flows (cf. [A. Eskin and H. Oh, Ergodic theoretic proof of equidistribution of Hecke points, Ergodic Theory Dynam. Systems26(1) (2006) 163–167]), as well as on Serre's open image theorem [J.-P. Abstract:

Este estudo segue a perspectiva dos Sistemas Adaptativos Complexos e investiga se há evidências na aquisição do português brasileiro (doravante PB) para combinações preferenciais de CV no balbucio e nas produções iniciais como MacNeilage, Davis et al. propõem. Os autores observam em dados de crianças adquirindo diferentes línguas ocorrências de três padrões combinatórios preferenciais em sílaba CV: consoantes coronais produzidas com vogais anteriores, consoantes dorsais produzidas com vogais posteriores, e consoantes labiais com vogais centrais. Essas combinações segmentais compartilham posições no trato vocal e são compatíveis com as classes naturais propostas por Clements e Hume no modelo unificado de traços, no qual vogais e consoantes podem ser classificadas como labiais, dorsais e coronais. Embora este estudo não siga uma perspectiva inatista, o uso de classes naturais na análise não é contraditório, pois assim como há proposta inatista, há proposta emergentista para o fenômeno, segundo a qual os padrões comuns fônicos seriam resultados de mudanças históricas. Após análise de dados longitudinais de um estudo de caso, concluímos que os dados de balbucio e iniciais do PB não sustentam a hipótese de que as combinações iniciais seriam de segmentos de uma mesma classe natural.

Abstract:

O presente ensaio objetiva refletir sobre as vulnerabilidades e os riscos sociais, vivenciados pelos velhos trabalhadores, como uma das expressões da questão social. A priori, na primeira seção, discutem-se alguns conceitos sobre as situações de risco e vulnerabilidade social circunscritas sob as raízes das classes sociais e do mundo do trabalho na sociedade burguesa, ou seja, como fenômeno inerente à sociedade do capital. A seguir, apresentam-se algumas considerações sobre a velhice e o processo de envelhecimento humano, adjuntos às contradições e desigualdades sociais, compreendidos como mecanismos de violência social. Destaca-se que este ensaio teórico, de caráter bibliográfico, segue a concepção teórico-metodológica do materialismo histórico-dialético. Portanto, conclui-se que tanto o processo de envelhecimento das frações da classe trabalhadora quanto as situações de risco e de vulnerabilidade social devem ser compreendidos sob o tecido da sociabilidade capitalista, uma vez que estão envoltos a fatores multidimensionais.

Apanhar múltiplas determinações da política educacional no Brasil é a tarefa – não necessariamente esgotada – que este V. 9, N. 1 de <em>Germinal: Marxismo e Educação em Debate</em> se impõe, em uma Conjuntura em que a luta de classes não dá trégua, o capital avança vorazmente contra direitos civis, políticos, sociais e trabalhistas e a classe trabalhadora brasileira – derrotada e dividida (IASI, 2017, p. 376) em decorrência do apassivamento do último período – principia o processo de ocupar as ruas em resistência!! Nos últimos 10 meses o ilegítimo Governo Temer – com um dos menores índices de aprovação da história dos Governos no Brasil (4%), o que demonstra que ser impopular não é sufiente para derrubar um governo – segue empenhado num conjunto de reformas trabalhista, da previdência e educacional assentadas numa agenda conservadora, configurando-se uma reforma constitucional, que, nos limites de referência da democracia burguesa, não passou pelo crivo das urnas.

Abstract:

O presente artigo reúne os principais elementos que compõem a concepção de política social do Banco Mundial a partir de recentes relatórios publicados sobre o tema pobreza e sociedade na página oficial deste organismo. A ideia central é de que se trata de uma descrição crítica da concepção de política social do Banco, problematizando cada um de seus argumentos mais explícitos com o intuito de desvelar uma intencionalidade organicamente vinculada à classe burguesa. Perspectiva esta que está pautada nos interesses dos segmentos da burguesia articulados em torno de um projeto societário direcionado para a reestruturação capitalista em uma conjuntura de crise estrutural. A concepção de política social do Banco Mundial segue, portanto, uma dimensão profundamente ideológica e política. A utilização, pelo Banco, de instrumentos, como os documentos analisados, para afirmar a hegemonia burguesa na cena contemporânea, atestam que o embate político e ideológico continua presente, explicitando a atualidade da luta de classes.

Abstract:

Este artigo investiga as representações sociais que adolescentes constroem sobre o trabalho e a inserção no mercado. Utilizou-se a teoria das representações sociais, desenvolvida por Serge Moscovici, para caracterizar a organização de elementos cognitivos, crenças, valores, atitudes, opiniões, como um saber prático, de senso comum, sobre a realidade. A pesquisa baseou-se em um conjunto de 30 entrevistas realizadas com adolescentes, com idades entre 16 e 18 anos, que frequentam o curso Treinamento para o Mercado de Trabalho de uma Organização Não Governamental localizada no interior do Estado de São Paulo. Uma análise de conteúdo, realizada com auxílio do software ALCESTE®, mostrou a existência de três classes de discurso: Vida profissional; Trabalho, lazer e família; e, Projeto pessoal. A análise da classe “Vida Profissional”, proposta para este artigo, revela a crença no trabalho como meio de afirmação presente e de perspectiva futura, evidenciando a ancoragem da representação em categorias amplamente difundidas na sociedade.

Abstract:

Este artigo investiga as representações sociais que adolescentes constroem sobre o trabalho e a inserção no mercado. Utilizou-se a teoria das representações sociais, desenvolvida por Serge Moscovici, para caracterizar a organização de elementos cognitivos, crenças, valores, atitudes, opiniões, como um saber prático, de senso comum, sobre a realidade. A pesquisa baseou-se em um conjunto de 30 entrevistas realizadas com adolescentes, com idades entre 16 e 18 anos, que frequentam o curso Treinamento para o Mercado de Trabalho de uma Organização Não Governamental localizada no interior do Estado de São Paulo. Uma análise de conteúdo, realizada com auxílio do software ALCESTE®, mostrou a existência de três classes de discurso: Vida profissional; Trabalho, lazer e família; e, Projeto pessoal. A análise da classe “Vida Profissional”, proposta para este artigo, revela a crença no trabalho como meio de afirmação presente e de perspectiva futura, evidenciando a ancoragem da representação em categorias amplamente difundidas na sociedade.

No ano 491 ou 490 a.C. o <em>demos</em> de Siracusa, uma das principais cidades gregas na parte oriental da ilha de Sicília, se alia aos <em>kyllyrioi,</em> uma população agrária escravizada, expulsando a aristocracia escravocrata e latifundiária dos <em>gamoroi</em> da cidade. Segue-se o que Aristóteles chama de um estado de <em>anarquia</em>, que é somente terminado com a ascensão da tirania de Gelão, que cria uma nova ordem política em Siracusa. Este artigo pretende examinar a relevância da análise de classes para o entendimento destes eventos, ponderando assim também a relevância da categoria para a história da antiguidade em geral. Adicionalmente, se tenciona mostrar, como classe e trabalho na Sicília antiga estavam vinculados a relações espaciais, criando assim uma situação de fronteira que moldou a forma das lutas político-sociais sicilianas no 5º século a.C.

O objetivo é analisar, através da contribuição de Florestan Fernandes, as origens do processo de revolução burguesa no Brasil a partir da específica formação social brasileira sob o capitalismo dependente. A hipótese sinaliza que este processo, iniciado com o golpe de 1930, remete à conformação colonial da sociedade brasileira e determinou: os condicionantes de uma sociedade tipicamente capitalista no país; um marco para a discussão do “povo” brasileiro; os caminhos de conformação da consciência de classe no Brasil, tanto burguesa quanto trabalhadora; e as possibilidades de mudanças sociais enquanto descolonização, ao condicionar o tipo de democracia possível. Este é um trabalho interdisciplinar sobre História do Pensamento Econômico Brasileiro que segue o método das controvérsias do pensamento econômico elaborado por Malta et al. (2011).

Abstract:

Spiralization is a developmental deformation in winter greenhouse produced black spruce seedlings characterized by a drooping stem or portion of stem. During lignification, the seedling redresses but maintains part of its deformation. The objective of this study is to evaluate the long-term effect of spiralization on the growth, survival and morphology of black spruce seedlings in order to determine to what degree the rejection of spiralized seedlings is justified. Field evaluation was undertaken on 2304 black spruce seedlings planted on three sites with different soil conditions in Abitibi, Québec. The seedlings were divided in the greenhouse into six stem deformation classes of varying intensities, including a control, and laid out on a randomized complete block design. From 1986, the year of plantation, to 1990, spiralization had little effect on height and diameter growth. However, severely deformed seedlings planted on a heavy-textured site suffered sufficiently high mortality rates to justify their rejection. Moreover, these seedlings developed a higher proportion of double leaders. The study suggests that systematic rejection of all classes of deformed seedlings, especially those in the less severe classes, is probably not justified. Este artigo apresenta resultados de uma pesquisa que teve como objetivo analisar as representações sociais de conselho de classe partilhadas por professores da Rede Municipal do Jaboatão dos Guararapes. A teoria das Representações Sociais proposta por Serge Moscovici e a abordagem culturalista de Jodelet foram o referencial teórico-metodológico de base para análise dos dados coletados através de questionários de associação livre de palavras e entrevistas semiestruturadas e interpretados pela técnica da análise de conteúdo de Bardin. Os resultados revelam sentidos ambíguos das representações sociais de conselho de classe por professores indicando perspectivas progressista/tradicional. Tais perspectivas se constituem da conjunção de distintos elementos que se inter-relacionam agregando sentidos à avaliação e à democratização das relações. Essas representações sociais de conselho de classe apontam para uma ação avaliativa que é objetivada no ensino e na aprendizagem do professor e do aluno simultaneamente, bem como, se conserva restrita à aprendizagem e/ou não aprendizagem do aluno. A ancoragem remete à condição de democratização das relações, por meio da reflexão dialogada, mas também se utiliza dessa condição para a manutenção da figura de poder do professor.

O objetivo do presente texto é o de apresentar, de modo panorâmico, algumas reflexões acerca das estratégias de dominação burguesas no contexto do capital-imperialismo ou imperialismo monopolista, bem como do processo de socialização da política diante do movimento de redemocratização do Brasil, cujos desdobramentos refletiram no redesenho do Estado, ampliando-o e alterando o seu funcionamento. Destarte, se perceberá, com base no conceitual gramsciano, que a relação indissociável entre sociedades política e civil passou por alterações qualitativas, em razão da incorporação de novas determinações de cunho econômico, político, social e ideológico, sobretudo nos últimos anos da década de 1990. Nessa direção, foram criadas novas e diversificadas entidades e organizações da sociedade civil com vistas a disputar o direcionamento de políticas sociais, entre as quais, as do campo educacional, constituindo uma complexa rede de influência, da qual o Conselho Nacional de Secretários de Educação – CONSED - é parte integrante e fundamental. A análise foi direcionada a partir de levantamento bibliográfico, com destaque aos seguintes documentos: Projeto de Reconstrução Nacional (1991), Relatório de Gestão (1996) e Estatuto do Conselho Nacional de Secretários Estaduais de Educação (2010), além da Emenda Constitucional nº 14 de 1996. Conclui-se que a atuação do CONSED se definiu como de grande relevância no movimento de atualização das estratégias de dominação das classes e frações de classe no poder, visto que sua influência junto a diferentes instâncias públicas e privadas e sua capilaridade em relação aos sistemas e redes de ensino do país, lhe conferiu (e segue conferindo) uma posição privilegiada na implementação dos projetos das classes dirigentes ou frações empresariais burguesas.

Tanaman sere wangi merupakan salah satu komoditas unggulan Kabupaten Gayo Lues yang kian marak dikembangkan karena semakin tingginya permintaan pasar akan minyak atsiri dari sere wangi, sehingga para petani dewasa ini mulai mengembangkan usaha sere wanginya dengan kurang memperhatikan lahan-lahan yang sesuai untuk dikembangkan tanaman sere wangi, seperti yang terjadi di Kecamatan Pining, Kecamatan Terangun dan Kecamatan Tripe Jaya. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis luas dan sebaran lahan sere wangi eksisting, serta luas dan sebaran lahan berdasarkan kelas kesesuaian lahan baik yang sudah ditanami sere wangi maupun lahan baru yang sesuai untuk pengembangan tanaman sere wangi. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan metode deskriptif dengan teknik survai. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa luas lahan sere wangi eksisting pada ketiga kecamatan tersebut adalah seluas 4.365,61 ha kelas kesesuaian lahan yang berpotensi dikembangkan tanaman sere wangi berdasarkan fungsi kawasan dan ketinggian tempat adalah seluas 38.319,91 ha dengan kelas kesesuaian cukup sesuai (S2) seluas 24.550,69 ha (64,07 %) dan kelas sesuai marginal (S3) seluas 13.769,92 ha (35,93 %).Land Suitability Analysis to Expand Citronella Planst in Gayo Lues RegencyAbstract. Citronella plant is one of Gayo Lues Regency’s leading commodity which is excessively to be developed due the increase of market demand for citronella’s essential oil, so tahat many farmers are beginning to develop their citronella farming with less consider about the suitable land for develop it, such as happen in Pining, Terangun, and Tripe Jaya Sub-districts. This research aims to analyze the extent and distribution of existing citronella land, as well as the extent and distribution of land based on it’s suitability classes that have been planted with citronella and another new land which is suitable to develop citronella plants. This research was conducted by using descriptive methods with survey techniques. The results of the analysis showed that the existing land of citronella plant is covering 4.365,61 ha of those sub-districts and land suitability class that potential to develop citronella plants based on the area function and it’s altitude is 38.319,91 ha with moderately suitable class (S2) who are covering 24.550,69 ha (64,07 %) and marginal suitable class (S3) who are covering 13.769,92 ha (35,93 %).

Como se desenham as trajetórias das carreiras dos diplomatas de elite do Ministério das Relações Exteriores (MRE)? Considerando que os trânsitos institucionais dos diplomatas brasileiros constituem peça central no funcionamento administrativo e político dessa burocracia, o presente artigo tem como objetivo responder a essa pergunta. Isso porque analisar essas dinâmicas colaboram tanto para entender um dos ministérios mais fechados do serviço civil público nacional, quanto avançam na construção de padrões da movimentação institucional dos atores que operam, sistematicamente e desde posições de comando, a política externa brasileira. Assim, a carreira da elite diplomática, composta por segundos ministros e embaixadores, e por mais de três décadas de carreira em média de carreira, é descrita em termos tanto das indicações para cargos de confiança na Secretaria de Estado (Sere), quanto nas passagens por postos diplomáticos no exterior, instituições nacionais e organismos internacionais. Os resultados apontam para um comportamento muito similar entre as duas hierarquias em que a maioria dos cargos de confiança na Sere são direcionados a posições de nível intermediário (DAS-4). As frequências majoritárias das trajetóriasexógenas a Sere, se concentram em postos no exterior, de classes “A” e “C”, seguidas por trânsitos em organismos internacionais e difusamente por instituições nacionais.

Resum: El Ball de Torrent és una moixiganga dramàtica popular escenificada a la ciutat de València i altres indrets del País Valencià des de finals del segle XVII fins a principis del segle XX. Estava organitzada per agrupacions gremials, juntes d’hospitals o clavaris de festes i protagonitzada per personatges agrupats en comparses que representaven una paròdia sobre les relacions entre les estructures de poder i les classes populars. Tot i la variabilitat segons el moment històric, es conforma com una mescla de quadres amb danses, música i jocs teatrals. El ball interacciona de diverses formes amb algunes festes valencianes i és, probablement, una de les mostres de teatre de carrer més nostrades i menys estudiades de la València Moderna. En aquest article es realitza una revisió bibliogràfica crítica i una primera anàlisi historiogràfica.Paraules clau: Ball de Torrent, Dansa i música tradicional, Teatre, Moixiganga, Festa valencianaAbstract: Ball de Torrent (Dance of Torrent) is a popular dramatic masquerade staged in Valencia since the late seventeenth century to the early twentieth. It was organized by guilds, hospital managements or festival organizers. The actors were grouped in associations representing a parody on the relationships between power structures and popular classes. Despite the variability depending on the historical period, it consisted of a mixture of episodes or scenes with dance, music and theatre games. Any Festivals in Valencia are connected with the Ball de Torrent. It’s probably one of the most interesting samples of street theatre and studied under of the Modern Valencia.
