Full textCooking salt was an uncommon food-stuff in precolonial time in most part of the western africa. This indispensable commodity became the matter of a busy and profitable trade and was bartered for the famous sudan'gold, black slaves and agricultural gathering or hunting produces. Geographical factors everywhere determined all the activities belonging or going together with salt's economy. For this research, our documentation is primarily acquired from books and all sorts of monographs. The salt mines or marshes which supplied west african countries were in the outskirts of these areas where people suffered of scarcity of salt. They could not be reached easily, specially they were situated in the south of the saharian area. Above all, the markettable value of salt in western sudan was created by its transportation. As for salt of plants ashes, it was produced in any area of the sudanese country; sea salt had taken a little part in the supplying of precolonial sudan progressively the sudan's salt trade got organized, from xth to xxth centuries, with specialized traders, market places and wares. Trading technologies wherewhile evolved from the silent trade to the bills of exchange. It is not easy to add up salt's accounts in old sudanese economic life. Without fail, it had wheighed heavyly in the way of living of all these western african peoples

Full textThis doctoral thesis has as its object the two saltworks which Margaret of Austria, as a new countess of Burgundy from 1509, had built at Tourmont (France, Jura), from 1510, and Montmorot (France, Jura), from 1514 ; in the same year she authorized the exploitation of the salty springs of the castellany of Poligny (France, Jura) other than that of Tourmont. In doing so, she returned to the policy of her predecessors, who, since the middle of the 14th century, by the closure of salt-works and the non-exploitation of new salty springs, had gradually concentrated in Salins (France, Jura) the production of salt from their county of Burgundy. Why Margaret of Austria did this ? How did she implement her princely project ? And which results did she achieve in the end ?Answering these questions made it possible to develop new, numerous and varied elements of knowledge, in connection with these different objectives : to contribute to the history of salt and saltworks of Franche-Comté at the hinge of the Middle Ages and the Renaissance, addressed under a technical, political and economic side, and through the fully new study of two small saltworks, while Salins has carved out the lion's share in the studies carried out since the 1960s ; dialogue with archeology, by comparing the contribution of handwritten and even iconographic sources with field observations from the collective research project Les sources salées du Jura, 6000 years of exploitation (1996-2001) ; enlighten the principate of Margaret of Austria in Franche-Comté (1509-1530), very little studied to this day, through the salt production policy that she led, breaking with that of her predecessors (1509-1522) ; and more generally, to see how these facts tell us about the way she exercised her power in Franche-Comté

Full textMany thermodynamic changes occur in reservoir rock when oil is produced. These changes enable scale formation on micrometric rock pores that can block them and impede/block oil extraction. Antiscale treatment efficiency depends on minimal inhibitor concentration and product release rate in fluids downhole. In this context, we have studied two encapsulation techniques allowing us to have a sustainable release system composed of an anionic polyelectrolyte as a model additive. The first formulation consists in formation of polyelectrolyte complexes nanoparticles. In this system, active ingredient release was stimulated through medium ionic strength modulation. Under basic conditions, release takes place in particles swelling/dissociation process; whereas, under acidic condition, particles precipitate and no release can be expected. The second system we have worked on is a diluted reverse (W/O) emulsion, in which dispersed aqueous droplets contain a model additive. These systems are stable and small additive percentage is released under mechanic strain

Full textVolcanic-hosted massive sulphides (VMS) from the Ariab Mining District (NE Sudan) formed in relation with a submarine volcanic activity within an Upper Proterozoic tholeiitic to calc-alkaline arc setting. Gold is exploited in silica-baritic rocks of supergene origin formed after massive sulphides but also in massive barite lenses and pre-kinematic quartz veins. All formations are affected by accretion tectonics and related shear deformation (D1-2). Gold assemblage (Au, Cu-Te) post-dates ductile deformation and the greenschist facies metamorphism peak. It formed by dilution, associated to a P-T drop, of aqueous-carbonic fluids(300-400°C-200-450MPa) under brittle-ductile shearing conditions (D3) after “adakite-like” intrusions (G2). It results either from in-situ gold remobilization within early auriferous hydrothermal deposits or from late-orogenic gold introduction

Full textThe Dodecanese, this archipelago in the south-eastern Aegean Sea, constitutes an important geopolitical and historical crossroads. Nowadays, it is once again, in the middle of serious geopolitical, geostrategic, and geo-economic tensions because of the gas field exploitation perspectives in the Eastern Mediterranean and the ongoing geopolitical decomposition of the region (Syria crisis, migration flows, strategic and economic rapprochement between Cyprus and Israel etc.). ln addition, the archipelago's population preserves -far more than the rest of the Greek territory- the memory of Ottoman cultural diversity (Orthodox, Catholic, Muslim and Jewish populations). Its landscape has also been shaped by the interaction between multiple foreign presences and influences (to limit ourselves to the 20th century: Ottoman, Italian, British, and Greek). It is worth reminding that during the Second World War, the Dodecanese was one of the main Italian Navy bases. The articulation between regional geo-historic orientations (crossroads situation) and the Eastern Mediterranean shifting framework constitutes the main intercultural challenge of this PhD thesis. Furthermore, this research is an opportunity to analyze the relationship between identity building and exposure to circulation processes, in order to assess the potentialities of Dodecanesian identity in the emergent multipolar context of Globalization
