Abstract:
Aim: The aim of this study is to compare the efficacy of selective laser trabeculoplasty as initial or adjunctive treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma in a retrospective chart review. Methods: 28 eyes of 28 patients with newly diagnosed primary open-angle glaucoma, who formed the initial selective laser trabeculoplasty group, and 31 eyes of 31 patients suffering from medical uncontrolled primary open-angle glaucoma, who formed the adjunctive selective laser trabeculoplasty group, were treated with 180° selective laser trabeculoplasty. Patients were evaluated 1, 3, 6, 12, 18 and 24 months

Abstract:
Selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) is the “golden standard” of laser glaucoma surgery. Its efficacy can be compared to pharmacological therapy, while in some cases its advantages may even lead to a more stable hypotensive effect. SLT may be used as a primary treatment for primary open-angle glaucoma patients and patients with ocular hypertension, while also considered safe and effective in cases when a repeat procedure is required. SLT may potentially decrease the demand for antiglaucoma drugs, improve patient’s response to treatment, make the treatment more comfortable and overall increase

Background/Aim There is increasing evidence for using selective laser trabeculoplasty as a first line treatment for chronic open angle glaucoma. The current first-line treatment is pharmacological therapy using eye drops. This study aims to assess the outcomes of selective laser trabeculoplasty in patients with glaucoma and ocular hypertension at a district general hospital and consider its role in reducing cost and treatment burden when treating patients with these conditions.

Abstract:
Background Glaucoma is a major cause of blindness worldwide. The affected population was projected to increase from 60.5 million in 2010 to 79.6 million in 2020. Among the various types of glaucoma, primary open angle glaucoma will account for more than 70% of this population. Treatment by lowering the intraocular pressure is the only proven method to reduce progression. This can be achieved via medication, surgery and laser. Selective laser trabeculoplasty is a relatively new type of laser that is reported to be equally efficacious to a first line medication and other established laser trab
