Abstract:
Abstract The futility of decades of government efforts to disseminate Chinese literature has triggered discussions among Chinese scholars on how to translate and who should be entrusted with this task. Some blame the failure on traditional concepts of translation that overemphasize faithfulness to the original to the point of disregarding target cultural conditions, but others insist that China should have control over its cultural export and that Sino-English should be used to internationalize English. Findings show that traditional concepts should not be blamed, as aggressively source-oriented strategies have been used in outbound translation only in recent years, and that this shift in translation norms in government-initiated outbound translation has spread to non-literary text types, and also to Hong Kong and Taiwan. The same kind of aggressiveness has recently been displayed in other forms of cultural export, triggering resistance in other cultures. All these changes may be attributable to a heightening of cultural self-image. What is needed to address the issue is cultural self-reflection, which will lead to the awareness that economic growth does not immediately bring cultural prestige, and that source-initiated cultural export efforts may make little difference in central cultures. Cultural awareness at a higher level can be achieved only through empathy.

Abstract:
Compared with pairwise registration, the groupwise one is capable of handling a large-scale population of images simultaneously in an unbiased way. In this work we improve upon the state-of-the-art pixel-level, Least-Squares (LS)-based groupwise image registration methods. Specifically, the registration technique is properly adapted by the use of Self Quotient Images (SQI) in order to become capable for solving the groupwise registration of photometrically distorted, partially occluded as well as unimodal and multimodal images. Moreover, the proposed groupwise technique is linear to the cardinality of the image set and thus it can be used for the successful solution of the problem on large image sets with low complexity. From the application of the proposed technique on a series of experiments for the groupwise registration of photometrically and geometrically distorted, partially occluded faces as well as unimodal and multimodal magnetic resonance image sets and its comparison with the Lucas–Kanade Entropy (LKE) algorithm, the obtained results look very promising, in terms of alignment quality, using as figures of merit the mean Peak Signal to Noise Ratio ( m P S N R ) and mean Structural Similarity ( m S S I M ), and computational cost.

Abstract:Discussions of the ethics of advertising have been based on a general distinction between informative and persuasive advertising without looking at specific techniques of persuasion. Self-identity image ads persuade by presenting an image of an idealized person-type such as a “beautiful” woman (Chanel) or a sexy teen (Calvin Klein). The product becomes a symbol of the ideal, and target consumers are invited to use the product to project the self-image to themselves and others. This paper argues that image ads are not false or misleading, and that whether or not they advocate false values is a matter for subjective reflection. Image ads can undermine a consumer’s self-esteem by collectively omitting images authentic for that sort of person (such as large women), and by combining impossible images with implied gaze. Image ads generally do not undermine autonomy of choice, internal autonomy, or social autonomy. It is concluded that image advertising is a basically ethical technique, but several recommendations are given on how use of image advertising can avoid specific harms.

Self-esteem corresponds to a feeling of personal worth and self-respect, considering a positive or negative evaluation of oneself, while self-concept is attributed a descriptive and evaluative character, the first being related to self-image and the second to self-esteem. In order to build healthy self-esteem, the involvement of family members and school staff is strictly necessary, in order to provide a safe and motivating environment for children and adolescents. Thus, this article has the general objective of understanding the processes of building self-esteem, self-concept and self-image during child development, through the influences of the environment and affective relationships between the people with whom the child lives. The study is a review of narrative literature, through publications/articles in the following databases: Scientific Electronic Library (SCIELO), Latin American and Caribbean Literature on Health Sciences (LILACS) and Virtual Health Library (BVS). Studies have shown the importance of developing a positive self-concept to have a good quality of life. For that, the relationships that the individual establishes in the family, in the school, in his social environment are fundamental for the formation of the self-concept.

Abstract:
Many current media images of women have underlying messages that affect our psyche in a negative way, whether or not we are aware. These images convey an unrealistic, distorted view of ideals and perfection, which create an unattainable model to live up to. As women, we should be cherishing our uniqueness, but, rather than celebrating and accepting ourselves, we are taught to judge and conceal. This project seeks to address inner beauty as a reflection of our energy, vitality, wisdom and the mental, as well as emotional, engagement in our lives. The terms perfection and imperfection will be redefined and applied to inward rather than outward appearance. Through a photographic study, this project will emphasize the value and beauty in aging. In the end, I would like to encourage my audience to not only recognize but also understand and accept the difference between media images and their own self-images.

Abstract:
The situational self-image, which recognizes the affect of situational influences, particularly social roles, was the specific topic of investigation of this study. It has generally been hypothesized in marketing literature that consumers will purchase the brand with the image most congruent with the consumers' self-image. Symbolic Interactionism, a field of study in sociology, provides the theoretical foundations for the construct situational self-image. Realization of the relationship between the situational self-consciousness and involvement was also investigated.

Este estudo utiliza os seguintes instrumentos: a Avaliação da Representação do Self, o Questionário de Experiências Depressivas (QED), a Escala do Centro de Estudos Epidemiológicos da Depressão (CES-D).Os participantes foram indivíduos de nacionalidade portuguesa de idades compreendidas entre os 24 e os 57 anos, de ambos os sexos, inscritos no Centro de Saúde de Almeirim, com diagnóstico de depressão. Neste estudo, é possível concluir que os depressivos apresentam uma representação negativa do self, pelo que sentem-se e vêem-se desadequados e inferiores aos outros; ABSTRACT: This study aims to establish a connection between self and depression, that is, to understand how depression will influence the image that the individual has of himself. Therefore, this study aims to understand how individuals with depression see themselves, as if they represent itself same and looks for to know the structure of its self, using the following instruments: the Assessment of the Representation of the Self, the Questionnaire of Depressive Experiences (QED) and the Scale of the Center for Epidemiological Studies Depression (CES-D). The participants were Portuguese citizens aged between 24 and 57 years, of both sexes, enrolled in the Health Center Almeirim diagnosed with depression. In this study, we conclude that depressives have a negative representation of self, so sit down and find themselves inadequate and inferior to others.

Abstract:
Existing deep image dehazing methods usually depend on supervised learning with a large number of hazy-clean image pairs which are expensive or difficult to collect. Moreover, dehazing performance of the learned model may deteriorate significantly when the training hazy-clean image pairs are insufficient and are different from real hazy images in applications. In this paper, we show that exploiting large scale training set and adapting to real hazy images are two critical issues in learning effective deep dehazing models. Under the depth guidance estimated by a well-trained depth estimation network, we leverage the conventional atmospheric scattering model to generate massive hazy-clean image pairs for the self-supervised pre-training of dehazing network. Furthermore, self-supervised adaptation is presented to adapt pre-trained network to real hazy images. Learning without forgetting strategy is also deployed in self-supervised adaptation by combining self-supervision and model adaptation via contrastive learning. Experiments show that our proposed method performs favorably against the state-of-the-art methods, and is quite efficient, i.e., handling a 4K image in 23 ms. Abstract:
A grating, when illuminated by a quasi-monochromatic point source, can form self-images downstream. With a periodic, spatially incoherent source illumination, when the self-images due to all the source points coincide, a high contrast gratinglike structure is formed. In this paper, the Fresnel approximation is used to calculate the diffraction pattern of the object. The resulting intensity pattern is essentially the correlation between the intensity distribution of the spatially incoherent source and the scaled intensity distribution of the Fresnel diffraction of the object. By suitably choosing the plane of observation and the source structure to object structure ratio, a high contrast cross-gratinglike structure can be obtained. Al though the image pattern is the correlation between the source structure and the scaled object structure, the magnification ratio between the self-image and the source structure is the same as that in conventional imaging. We can then consider the self-image to be the image of the source structure, imaged by the object grating. When the illuminating source is imaged to the right of the object grating, the relationship between the self-image and the new source is found to be the same as before.

Abstract:
Review question / Objective: The purpose of this study is to present a synthesis of knowledge about the effects of bariatric surgery on the body image of women after surgical intervention. Condition being studied: Along with the increase in obesity rates, the number of surgical procedures for its treatment is also growing. While for healthcare professionals, the main indicator of success of bariatric surgery is weight loss and the control/remission of comorbidities associated with obesity, for those who undergo such intervention, their expectations go beyond that, as excess wight has affected their psychosocial spheres, generating disorders of body image, low self-esteem, anxiety, eating disorders, isolations, among others. Therefore, evaluating the effect of bariatric surgery on body image is a key factor in determining the success of surgery from the user’s perspective. It is necessary to have synthesis of knowledge considering sociocultural difference, objective measurement through instruments to incorporate them into long-term clinical follow-up.

Abstract:
There are over 590,000 bridges dispersed across the roadway network that stretches across the United States alone. Each bridge with a length of 20 feet or greater must be inspected at least once every 24 months, according to the Federal Highway Act (FHWA) of 1968. This research developed an artificial intelligence (AI)-based framework for bridge and road inspection using drones with multiple sensors collecting capabilities. It is not sufficient to conduct inspections of bridges and roads using cameras alone, so the research team utilized an infrared (IR) camera along with a high-resolution optical camera. In many instances, the IR camera can provide more details to the interior structural damages of a bridge or a road surface than an optical camera, which is more suitable for inspecting damages on the surface of a bridge or a road. In addition, the drone inspection system is equipped with a minicomputer that runs Machine Learning algorithms. These algorithms enable autonomous drone navigation, image capture of the bridge or road structure, and analysis of the images. Whenever any damage is detected, the location coordinates are saved. Thus, the drone can self-operate and carry out the inspection process using advanced AI algorithms developed by the research team. The experimental results reveal the system can detect potholes with an average accuracy of 84.62% using the visible light camera and 95.12% using a thermal camera. This developed bridge and road inspection framework can save time, money, and lives by automating and having drones conduct major inspection operations in place of humans.

Abstract:
This work exploits augmented reality to safely train and validate autonomous vehicles’ performance in the real world under safety-critical scenarios. Toward this goal, we first develop algorithms that create virtual traffic participants with risky behaviors and seamlessly insert the virtual events into real images perceived from the physical world. The resulting composed images are photorealistic and physically grounded. The manipulated images are fed into the autonomous vehicle during testing, allowing the self-driving vehicle to react to such virtual events within either a photorealistic simulator or a real-world test track and real hardware systems. Our presented technique allows us to develop safe, hardware-in-the-loop, and cost-effective tests for self-driving cars to respond to immersive safety-critical traffic scenarios.
