Abstract:
Introduction. In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, which spread around the world in early 2020, special attention is paid to external transformations in human life: forced staying at home, using personal protective equipment in public places, social distance, etc. Nevetheless, the inner world of a man is susceptible to serious transformations. Another necessary element that structures the world of self (J. Deleuze’s point of view) is turning into a potential carrier of the virus. Therefore, the problem of human reflection with the goal of taking care of oneself in a crisis situation is of particular relevance. The aim of the study is to substantiate the effectiveness of spiritual practices of the period of Antiquity and the early Middle Ages as forms of caring of the internal in a person in the pandemic. Methods. The author uses general scientific methods: analysis and synthesis, induction, deduction, abstraction. In addition, a comparative historical method, an interpretation method and a systematic approach are applied. With the help of the dialectical approach, the connection between the external and the internal in a person was designated. Scientific novelty of the study. Three scenarios of human responses to self-isolation in the context of an event (external) – meaning (internal) are outlined: orientation to an external event; creating an external event; appeal to the self. Results. In the context of self-isolation, staying alone with himself, a person faced a problem, a crisis of identity (empirical evidence for this problem was provided by psychologists and psychotherapists in Chelyabinsk and the Chelyabinsk region). This problem is due to the fact that the pandemic has reduced many of the person’s connections with the outside world (work, study, relationships with friends and relatives) and / or transferred them to a remote format. Therefore, consciously or optionally, at the level of an unreasonable request, a person has a need to rethink his self. Rethinking is a reflexive procedure when a person re-learns to communicate with his self. M. Foucault analyzed and systematized examples of spiritual work with I, looking into the practices of care of the self in ancient thinkers’ and early Christians’ studies. Conclusion. The COVID-19 virus has made significant adjustments to human life. No less adjustments were made to the events (F. Girenok) that fill the life of a person. A man’s replies to changes in his being can be laid between two poles: event and meaning. Even while at home, many continue to focus on the external, creating something of their own (for example, audiovisual production) or consuming the results of others. At the same time, orientation to meaning involves focusing on oneself. Philosophers and theologians who practiced self-care about two millennia ago, proposed different forms of reflection, pursuing one goal, to learn to talk with oneself.

Abstract:

This master thesis report discusses the use of self-organizing maps in a diesel engine management system. Self-organizing maps are one type of artificial neural networks that are good at visualizing data and solving classification problems. The system studied is the Vindax(R) development system from Axeon Ltd. By rewriting the problem formulation also function estimation and conditioning problems can be solved apart from classification problems.

In this report a feasibility study of the Vindax(R) development system is performed and for implementation the inlet air system is diagnosed and the engine torque is estimated. The results indicate that self-organizing maps can be used in future diagnosis functions as well as virtual sensors when physical models are hard to accomplish.

Abstract:
Combining shock and vibration isolation into a single isolation system package is explored through the use of an air spring in parallel with a controlled magnetorheological fluid damper. The benefits of combining shock and vibration isolation into a single package is discussed. Modeling and control issues are investigated and test and simulation results are discussed. It is shown that this hybrid isolation system provides significantly increased performance over current state-of-the-art passive systems. Also explored is the feasibility of scavenging and storing ambient shipboard vibration energy for use in powering the isolation system. To date the literature has not adequately explored the direct design of a combined shock and vibration isolation system. As shock and vibration isolation are typically conflicting goals, the traditional approach has been to design separate shock and vibration isolation systems and operate them in parallel. This approach invariably leads to compromises in terms of the performance of both systems. Additionally, while considerable research has been performed on magnetorheological fluids and devices based on these fluids, there has been little research performed on the use of these fluids in devices that are subjected to high velocities such as the velocity seen by a ship exposed to underwater near-miss explosive events. Also missing from the literature is any research involving the scavenging and storage of ambient shipboard vibration energy. While the focus of this work is on the use of this scavenged energy to power the subject isolation system, many other uses for this energy can be envisioned. Experimental and analytical results from this research clearly show the advantages of this hybrid isolation system. Drop tests show that inputs as great as 167 g's were reduced to 3.42 g's above mount at 1.11 inches of deflection using a Velocity Feedback controller suggested by the author. When contrasted with typical test results with similar inputs, the subject isolation system achieved reductions in above mount accelerations of 300% and reductions in mount deflections of 200% over current state-of-the-art passive shipboard isolation systems. Furthermore, simulations using a validated model of the isolation system suggest that this performance improvement can be achieved in multi-degree-of-freedom isolation systems as well. It was shown that above mount accelerations in the vertical and athwartship directions could be effectively limited to a predefined value, while achieving the absolute minimum mount defections, using an Acceleration Limiting Bang-Bang controller suggested by the author. Further experimentation suggests that the subject isolation system could be entirely self-powered from scavenged ambient shipboard vibration energy. An experiment using an energy scavenging and storage system consisting of a Piezoelectric Stack Generator and a bank of ultracapacitors showed that enough energy could be harvested to power the isolation system though several shock events.

Abstract:
The prevalence of sexual harassment among college women has been reported to range from 33% to 97% (Klein, Apple, & Khan, 2011; Yoon, Funk, & Kropf, 2010) across the lifespan. In any one year of college, the prevalence of sexual harassment reported by women ranges from 33% to 57% (Crown & Roberts, 2007; Huerta, Cortina, Pang, Torges, & Magley, 2006). The severity and frequency of sexual harassment has been found to be related to reports of psychological distress (Nielsen & Einarsen, 2012), feelings of shame (Yoon et al., 2010), anxiety and depression symptoms (Murdoch, Pryor, Polusny, & Gackstetter, 2007), and social isolation (Pershing, 2003). These consequences of sexual harassment are concerning given the association between depression, isolation, and suicidality (Boardman, Grimbaldeston, Handley, Jones, & Willmott, 1999; DeWall, Gilman, Sharif, Carboni, & Rice, 2012). While there are numerous studies documenting the negative consequences experienced by women who are sexually harassed, little is known about the relationship of sexual harassment to the more severe negative outcomes of suicidal ideation and self-harm behaviors and what variables might facilitate this hypothesized relationship. Thus, the purpose of this study is to explore whether the experience of sexual harassment is related to increased suicidality and if this hypothesized relationship is mediated or moderated by other factors such as an individual’s response style and/or degree of connection to or isolation from others.

Abstract:

Abstract:
This study addresses experimental evaluation of a semi-active vibration isolation system using a self-powered magnetorheological (MR) damper. To this end, a self-powered MR damper was constructed by electronically connecting an MR damper with a power harvesting dynamic vibration absorber (DVA) that can convert mechanical energy due to vibration and shock into electrical energy by means of electromagnetic induction. In this study, an MR damper for seat suspensions of the Expeditionary Fighting Vehicle (EFV) was chosen for the application of the self-powered MR damper. The generated voltage, current, and power of the power harvesting DVA were experimentally measured in frequency domain under various acceleration levels of 0.3–1.2 g (where one g = 9.81 m/s2). In addition, damper force testing of the self-powered MR damper (i.e., in this study, a prototype EFV MR damper with the power harvesting DVA) was experimentally conducted in time and frequency domains. To evaluate vibration isolation performance of a semi-active isolation system using the self-powered MR damper, an EFV seat suspension mockup using the self-powered MR damper was constructed. Under eight different representative random excitation accelerations, the vibration isolation performance of the EFV seat suspension mockup using the self-powered MR damper was experimentally evaluated.

Abstract:
Over the past three years, the Ishraq program in the villages of northern El-Minya, Egypt, grew from a novel idea into a vibrant reality. In the process, approximately 300 rural girls have participated in a life-transforming chance to learn, play, and grow into productive members of their local communities. Currently other villages—and soon other governorates—are joining the Ishraq network. Ishraq is a mixture of literacy, life-skills training, and—for girls who have been sheltered in domestic situations of poverty and isolation—a chance to play sports and games with other girls their age and develop a sense of self-worth and mastery; the program reinforces the lessons they receive in life-skills classes about hygiene, nutrition, and healthy living. This guide to the sports and games component of the program is geared to the needs of disadvantaged adolescent girls. It is intended for those in the development community interested in the potential of sports to enhance the overall impact of adolescent programs. Sports can be combined with other program components to give girls a more active experience, whether the primary focus is reproductive health, literacy, or livelihood skills.
