Abstract:
Many of the wild and some cultivated species of potato are true diploids and are therefore more amenable for genetic studies than the majority of tetraploid cultivars. However, the use of these diploid Solanum species is complicated by almost universal self-incompatibility (SI). In Solanum, SI is gametophytic and pistil specificity is controlled by a polymorphic ribonuclease (S-RNase), as found in other members of the Solanaceae. The genetic engineering of self-compatible (SC) diploid potato lines would benefit potato breeding in general and allow inbred lines to be established for the first t

Abstract:
The current study examined affective reactivity to oneself in an upward socialcomparison manipulation using autonomic physiological responses. Study I was conducted to select images of thin and average size models used to elicit a social comparison process for Study II. For Study II, thirty-two female undergraduate students had their startle reflex and skin conductance responses recorded while viewing images of themselves presented adjacent to thin or average size models. Participants also viewed positive, negative, and neutral affect images to test our experimental manipulation of Peter Lang’

Abstract:
Emotional manipulation is the use of high-level emotional skills to manipulate others for self-serving reasons. This study examined individuals’ belief in their emotional manipulation skills (trait emotional manipulation) and the frequency with which they engaged in emotional manipulation (willingness to emotionally manipulate). The influence of emotional intelligence, primary psychopathy, secondary psychopathy, Machiavellianism, grandiose narcissism, vulnerable narcissism, sadism, general self-efficacy, and social self-efficacy on trait emotional manipulation and willingness to emotionally ma

Abstract:
<p>Pattern formation is a mysterious phenomenon occurring at all scales in nature. The beauty of the resulting structures and myriad of resulting properties occurring in naturally forming patterns have attracted great interest from scientists and engineers. One of the most convenient experimental models for studying pattern formation are colloidal particle suspensions, which can be used both to explore condensed matter phenomena and as a powerful fabrication technique for forming advanced materials. In my thesis, I have focused on the study of colloidal patterns, which can be conveniently trac

Abstract:
In this study, we investigated the effects of stealing thunder (a type of selfdisclosure) and type of transgression (competence vs. integrity) on trust in a politician and their representative party and policy, after the politician commits a transgression. 99 participants (68 females, 31 males) with an average age of 30.89 (SD=14.12) completed this study, with just over half (62.2%) being students University of Tasmania. Participants complete an online survey where they read several vignettes about a hypothetical politician committing a wrongdoing, and completed Likert scales and dichotomous m

Their liquid crystalline properties were studied using polarizing optical microscopy, differential scanning calorimetry, and powder X-ray diffraction. Upon heating, 17a showed a columnar phase followed by a discotic nematic phase. On the other hand, 17b exhibited only a columnar mesophase within a wide temperature range. Self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) have been prepared by chemisorption of 17a and 17b individually from dilute solutions. Alignment behaviors of disc
