In the 1950s, Charles Snow wrote about the growing gap between the humanities and natural science cultures. He saw this as a great danger both for science itself and for all humankind. In Russia, it was complemented by a crisis of humanitarian knowledge. The article considers the ways to overcome this crisis and build a bridge between cultures. The solution of these problems is associated with the development of interdisciplinary approaches in general, and the theory of self-organization in particular. Synergetics today represents an approach that lies at the intersection of subject knowledge,

Sand is an appropriate material to embody and make visible the impulses which may pass through the moving hand and also permeate the universe. Its ability to absorb impressions means it can take on the full range of material states, solid, liquid or vapour, and allows it to speak with the rhythmic language the whole of nature itself uses. Developing a language of forms which more closely speaks this rhythmic language of nature requires an intimate knowledge of the processes of nature. My thesis contributes to a better understanding of how self-organized control works. I begin by analyzing the control problem. I argue that the two prominent solutions offered by classical cognitive sciences (centralized control with rich commands) and embodied cognitive sciences (distributed control with simple commands) are merely two positions in a two-dimensional solution space. I outline two alternative positions: distributed control with rich commands and centralized control with simple commands. My goal is to develop a hybrid account that combines the latter alternative position and tha

From a visual standpoint it is often easy to point out whether a system is considered to be self-organizing or not, though a quantitative approach would be more helpful. Information theory, as introduced by Shannon, provides the right tools not only quantify self-organization, but also to investigate it in relation to the information processing performed by individual agents within a collective. This thesis sets out to introduce methods to quantify spatial self-organization in collective systems in the continuous domain as a means to investigate morphogenetic processes. At first the static charge density wave order in 1T-TaS2 is investigated as a function of pressure and temperature by means of X-ray diffraction. The model and corresponding simulation system are based on a stochastic cellular automaton. The last phenomenon occurs when all three actors interact in one location. A numerical criterion for stable dynamic structures is proposed.
