<p>Abstract This paper is a study of Andreas Gursky’s photo Rhein II. In this study, the post-structural semiotic analysis method is used to interpret meaning based on signs on the Rhein II. The post-structural semiotic analysis becomes the basis for interpreting meanings using related references. In the study of Rhein II photo objects, visual text analysis is expected to provide positive benefits for the development of photography, especially academically. Rhein II is a photo by Andreas Gursky. In Rhein II’s photograph, a contemporary photo is presented as a multi-reality representation analyzed using the post-structural semiotic method. The object of research is interpreted as a text that has a layer of meaning that is squeezed out of its essence by semiotics. The deconstruction of the signification system in the visual element is identified by reading the structural postal semiotic theory codes: text analysis process, creation process.

Abstract:
AbstractThe contribution that may come from the general science of signs, semiotics, to the planning and development of education and learning at all levels, from early schooling through to university education and learning should not be neglected. As Umberto Eco claims in the “Introduction” to the Italian edition of his book Semiotica and Philosophy of Language (1984: xii, my trans.), “[general semiotics] is Semiotica e filosofia del linguaggio. Turin: Einaudi; in nature, because it does not study a particular system, but posits the general categories in light of which different systems can be compared. And for general semiotics philosophical discourse is neither advisable nor urgent: it is simply constitutive.” To the title of their book Semiotic Theory of Learning, at the centre of our attention in the present text, Andrew Stables, Winfried Nöth, Alin Olteanu, Sébastien Pesce, and Eetu Pikkarainen, rightly add the subtitle New Perspectives in the Philosophy of Education. This multivoiced contribution to research in learning and education in a semiotic framework has a unifying reference in the semiotics of Charles S. Peirce, but without disregarding an array of other distinguished exponents of the teaching and education sciences from different disciplines, semioticians and philosophers alike. This book, a polyphonic effort, with its appeal to “act otherwise,” and to do so investing in learning and education, no doubt makes a significant contribution in such a direction: education for transformation, for humanizing social change. Beyond evidencing what to us are particularly interesting aspects of the topics under discussion in Semiotic Theory of Learning, we also propose to continue and amplify this multivoiced dialogue. While highlighting still other aspects and contributions made by the same semioticians and philosophers presented by the authors of this book, involving such figures as Charles Peirce, Charles Morris, Thomas Sebeok, John Deely, etc., we have further introduced other voices made to resound throughout, whether directly or indirectly, like that of Victoria Welby, Mikhail Bakhtin, Emmanuel Levinas, Adam Schaff, Ferruccio Rossi-Landi, Marcel Danesi, Augusto Ponzio, and Genevieve Vaughan.

Abstract:

Abstract:
The twentieth century has seen the qualitative explosion and the quantitative spreading of the semiotic theories and the sign systems. Taking their first steps with analyses that very rarely called up on history in their argumentation, such disciplines - most of all when dealing with cultural semiotics - have seen "history" enter into their researches. The essay intends to examine the specific contribution of the Tartu-Moscow school and, above all, of the work of Jurij M. Lotman (1922-1993), verifying the impact and the applicability of the Russian semiotics. After recalling the lotmanian scheme that sums up his work in the sixties, the author questions on what cultural semiotics means for "history" and on how the historian may avail himself of it in his work.

Abstract:

This paper presents an study over reading as a discursive process, based on the French semiotics. It investigates how the reading process happens by the study of enunciation and by the organization of the generative process of the meaning in the text. It investigates how the enunciator and the enunciatee (seen as the author and the reader that the text allow us to conceive) relate in the text and which are the values that one passes to the other by the circulation of value objects in the narrative. For these investigations is used a juvenile fictional narrative named Where have you been, Robert (Wo warst du, Robert?), by the German author Hans Magnus Enzensberger. In this story, a teenager escapes from the reality of the world where he lives and travels back in time and space, seven times. These trips are compared to reading, as both are understood as a process which starts from the eyes. It is also believed that this narrative fictionalizes the process of reading as an act and that the protagonist searches for knowledge as his value object. When he comes to possess knowledge, he returns to his original world and is satisfied because, as a satisfied reader, he feels as somebody who knows better than the others.

Abstract: The new information technologies created new representation and knowledge elaboration fields, reflecting significantly in the diffusion, organization and valuation of information. Consequently, the analysis about how to structure, to spread and present such information, has become essential for the several areas of human knowledge. Among such new technologies there are the on-line digital magazines that must prioritize how to organize and present information in its interfaces so that the user can achieve his /her goals. Thus, this work intends to identify the multiplicity of approaches and slight differences that might be extracted from on-line digital magazines signs. The present study to consolidate, we mention conceptions firstly proceeding from the semiotics methodology suggested by Charles Sanders Peirce, as well as from design and ergonomics digital interfaces. Later, it is analyzed, under Peirce's semiotics conception, three digital magazines: Revista Arteria 8, Revista, Studium 15 and Revista Infodesign. Throughout this analysis, what each magazine sign provides and if they can facilitate or confuse the interaction between users and the studied interfaces can be verified. We come to conclusion that the analyzed magazines aren't explored thoroughly and when it comes to their potential as whole

The objective of this survey is to investigate the metaphor/analogy use in science education. For that, we based on peircean semiotics reference, because it is a string legacy to language philosophy studies. The scientific speech has always comprised a paradox: at the same time that it proposes an objective, denotative text, it usually employs metaphors/analogies, as a resource to transmit and help the construction of concepts. A secular procedure, which presents several consequences for science and science education. Metaphor is a sign, therefore it is a cognitive operator. This feature has conducted our survey through the linguistic enunciation and pictorial representations (smaller amount). Despite all the facts against the metaphoric/analogical use, our finds revealed the great importance of its use for science education, especially Biology, which is our empiric survey subject. The major objective, we believe it was reached, is to contribute actively, directly and in a simple way, to the surveys concerning this subject.

The lack of consistence between Physical Education theoretic methods and the reality observed on school context stimulated us to identify the necessity of creating new paths to be stepped by Physical Education area in order to reach the globalized contemporary scenery. Motivated by that necessity, this research is related to ‘Practices and Formative Process on Education’ and it was developed at Education Post Graduation Program of UNESP Science Faculty (Presidente Prudente). As result, a great potential to suggest new teaching possibilities to Pedagogical Action on Physical Education have been found at the concepts of Semiotics presented by Charles Sanders Peirce (1839-1914). To discuss the theme, we analyzed the relationship among some theoretical concepts of Semiotics (Categories of Experience, Semiosis, Pragmaticism, Scientific Method) and some pedagogical theories of Physical Education. And this interventional research was guided by the logic of Abducing-Inductive Method proposed by Peirce. This investigation took place on a public school at the city of São José dos Campos...
This work analyses the collection of videos HayMotivos.com, defined as an online documentary (docweb), from the concept and historical approach of documentary as a genre, its boderline with fiction cinema and its migration to the web environment. After it is described and contextualized, HayMotivo.com is analyzed in a comprehensive perspective, through the use of the generative process of the expression plan, by Jacques, Fontanille, which allows to make explicit the integration of the levels of semiotic pertinence, emphasizing the support-object (internet) as the practices and strategies (audiovisual techniques used). Once it has been proved that HayMotivo.com represents a new practice for the production of documentaries in the web, we chose four vídeos, corpus of this research, to analyze in an enclosed perspective: Español para extranjeros, Soledad, Kontrastasun and Catequesis. The use of generative process of the content plan, by A. J. Greimas, allows for a finer analysis, by evidencing recurring semes and deep level oppositions, actant roles and value objects in the narrative level and the pictures, thermes and enunciation marks and simulacrum, in discourse level. Thje theoretical research and the comparative analysis revealed other aspects which have been explicated through the use of some concepts of the tensive grammar by Claude Zilberberg. Condensed in the Category Table, the practices and strategies of HayMotivo.com served as basis for our practical exercise, the production of the experimental docweb Brincandeira de criança (Child play), published on Youtube.com, which represents the main result of our research: the passing from theory to practice.

Abstract:

The objective of this work is to demonstrate, through the semiotic analysis of threesystemic projects Bijari, that art can point out ways that lead to changing habits. Installations and interventions are aimed at the production of aesthetic objects and environments, in order to reach the general public in cities, particularly São Paulo, causing estrangement and shock in order to wake them a new look, a new mentality, a change of habits, able to guarantee the permanence of living systems, including human beings, considered in the light of General Systems Theory, the more complex biopsychosocial systems on the planet. The projects are analyzed Urban Nature, which are part of four facilities, Ocean Invaded and LUXURY. Based on the central concepts of General Systems Theory and Peircean Semiotics, we intend to make a systemicsemiotic analysis of the work of the Bijari, relating these works with the concept of permanence in the Art and normative sciences of Peirce (semiotics, ethics and aesthetics).

Abstract:
AbstractThe chapter is entirely dedicated to enunciation, a central notion in semiotic theory that has been the subject of constant reasoning and theoretical investigation by Bruno Latour with a series of repercussions that are also significant for contemporary semiotic research. From the initial recourse to Greimasian notions of débrayage and embrayage employed to account for the ways in which in a text authenticity manifests itself as a meaning effect, to the increasing attention paid to objects, to the material manifestation that the construction of scientific facts takes on, enunciation proves to be an essential concept for deepening the complex relationship between semiotics and Latour’s work. The paragraphs thus reconstruct Latour’s effort to extend the scope of enunciation outside the sphere of textuality, openly criticizing semiotics, considered too anchored to the study of language. A criticism that nevertheless fails to recognize a significant turning point in contemporary semiotic research that has long since broadened the perimeter of the phenomena of signification analyzed, with the progressive development of the sociosemiotic perspective. Particular attention is paid to an essay often overlooked in the literature on Latourian work, namely Petite philosophie de l’énonciation and to the semiotics implicit in some of the French intellectual’s most famous works seemingly distant from semiotic theory, including An Inquiry into Modes of Existence. An Anthropology of the Moderns.

Abstract:
This contribution presents a semiotic theory of translation based on protyposis that bridges the gap between quantum physics, semiotics, and translation studies. Protyposis, an elementary quantum structure, underlies all possibilities for generating meaningful information. The theory critiques traditional notions of information and examines its development from the communication theory of Shannon and Weaver to more complex biosemiotic perspectives. It addresses the interplay between protyposis and semiotic processes and shows how meaning emerges from relationships and functions that go beyond the quantum level. It integrates Marais’ work on semiotic translation theory, which proposes translation as a negentropic semiotic process that works within constraints to create relations. The study culminates in the advocacy of a transdisciplinary approach underpinned by protyposis to comprehensively understand the complexity of translation and information processes, opening a new perspective for understanding communication, perception and knowledge construction in different scientific fields.

Abstract:
The subject of the article is the key ways of applying semiotics to analysis of the Soviet films. It is shown that semiotic analysis is a common method in film studies. In Russian issues on the Soviet cinema, the problem of the lack of integration between the visual semiotics and semiotics of literature was revealed. The analysis of the video is not always carried out together with the analysis of the plot, and vice versa. The most heuristic are the issues that pay attention to both the visual and text, as well as, supplement semiotics by other methodologies.

Abstract:
Urban space is composed of various dimensions and contexts that generate urban forms. The spatial distributions of urban elements have different layers of connotative indications associated with Society's shared knowledge. The implying semiotics affect space configuration that could lead either to generate a compact or sprawl urban fabric. However, it is essential to know how the semiotic elements affect space configuration. The research aims to locate semiotic elements that have a role in space configuration. The research methodology depends on finding the semiotic values through a practical survey combined with a GIS tool to locate the correlations between the most valuable signs using the chi-square method. Also, to build a model for assessing the cognitive semiotic elements. The model gives a clue to explain how the spatial configuration is affected by the existence of semiotic values and shifts its values accordingly.

Abstract:
Semiotics is the study of signs and sign systems, and the formation of their meanings. From the point of view of semiotics, signs are explained by the assumption that everything has a certain meaning, often multiple meanings. The purpose of this paper is to answer the question – what is the role of semiotics in educational science? Education and art education have always been at the crossroads of these interpretations of meaning because semiotics presupposes an interpretation that is influenced by a myriad of circumstances and coincidences. The scoping review and nodes strategy was used in this literature review to select relevant articles. The Web of Science Thematic Framework of Education and Educational Research database was chosen to map the role of semiotics. The criteria for article selection were language – articles written in English were selected – and keywords (“Semiotics” and “Semiotics, Art Education”). Based on these criteria 167 open-access articles were initially selected for analysis, from which further exploration was based on keywords relevant to the topic. After analysing the abstracts of the selected articles, the papers were grouped according to the theoretical framework and approach. The main finding of this literature review was that semiotic analysis can help develop students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract:
Semiotics is the study of symbol systems, first proposed at the beginning of this century by the Swiss linguist Saussure, the American philosopher and founder of the philosophy of pragmatism Pierce. Semiotics is the study of the theory of symbols, and its scope of study involves the nature, characteristics, and meaning of the symbols of things, as well as the relationship between symbols and human beings. Design is a discipline closely related to "meaning", so the theory of semiotics is bound to have a strong guiding effect on design. Objectives This paper mainly researches the application of Semiotics in design by answering the following three questions: (1) Which countries and institutions are the application subjects of Semiotics in design? (2) What are the hotspot research topics of Semiotics in design? What are the future frontier trends? (3) What are the topics and paradigms of Semiotics in design high-impact literature research? Methods This paper uses the methods of bibliometrics and information visualization. To obtain more rigorous and comprehensive data indicators, VOS viewer and Cite Space (two pieces of bibliometric visualization software) were used to draw a map of scientific knowledge such as cooperative countries co-occurrence network, keywords co-occurrence clustering network and reference co-citation clustering network so as to conduct an empirical analysis on the retrieved data. In this paper, the Web of Science database is selected to retrieve the journal and paper data related to Design semiotics. In order to ensure the authority and research value of literature data, only SCI, SSCI and A&HCI were selected as the search source, with (Topic= (" semiotics ") AND Title= ("design")) as the search criteria and an unlimited time span. Finally, 407 retrieved papers published from 2000 to 2023 were exported as TXT files in the format of "fully recorded and cited references" to generate a visual knowledge map for quantitative analysis. Results (1) The output of papers related to design semiotics is generally on the rise, with the main output countries are China, Brazil, the United States, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Australia. Among them, China has the largest share of relevant research volume, indicating that China attaches great importance to research in this field and has a wide range of application areas. In addition, Research related to design semiotics is distributed, i.e. many schools and organizations are doing related research, but there are no very prominent institutions yet. (2) Nowadays, the research hotspots of Design semiotics include Computer Science, Engineering, Education Educational Research, Social Sciences, Business Economics, etc., which are mainly applied to "Provide a semiotic methodology primarily for problem solving", thus demonstrating its theoretical value. We can see that the combination of design semiotics with other approaches mainly involves sensory experience and cognitive science, user interface design, affective design and psychology, making design semiotics an interdisciplinary property.(3) At present, a bulk of influential and highly-cited literature on Design semiotics has been generated. For example, some literature has examined Gender and design cultures in information and communication technologies. Some literature has examined the Semiotic Approach to Information Systems Design. They constitute the classic cases and knowledge base of the application of Design semiotics and provide a research basis for the subsequent application of Design semiotics.

Abstract:
The wide variety of the components of signs stems from verbal communication to visual gestures, ciphers, images, music, and Morse code. Barthes’ Semiotic Theory restructured the theory of analyzing signs and allowed for a new understanding and interpretation of signs through seeing diverse cultures and societies. Saussure’s definition of the sign as a combination of signifier and signified led Barthes to further elucidate sign as connotative (cultural) and denotative (literal) processes. Semiotics can be applied to all aspects of life, as meaning is produced not in isolation but in totality, establishing multiple connotations and denotations. In the article “The World of Wrestling” published in Mythologies (1957), Barthes focused on images portrayed by the wrestler resulting in understanding of the wrestler’s image and the image of spectator. In Morse code, gestures can make any sport a spectacle of suffering, defeat and justice, representation of morality, symbols, anger, smile, passion etc., from which derive denotative and connotative meanings. Similarly, Thomas Sebeok identifies sign as one of six factors in communication, and which makes up the rich domain of semiotic research. These are message, source, destination, channel, code, and context. The present paper will focus on a dialogic relation between semiotics and sports, thus making it a text that reproduces meaning and represents certain groups. It focuses on various aspects of semiotics and their relation to sports. The paper also contemplates the versions and meanings of signs in sports that establish sport as an act of representation.

Abstract:
We are living in the age of adaptation. In contemporary art, the power of adaptation is evidenced by the fact that a textual semiotic system is continuously passing through the different genres and means to establish new texts. Adaptation is also an intercultural translation as each work adapted experiences a cultural shift so as to adapt to the target culture. Although The Tale of Kieu (Nguyen Du) made use of the plot of Kim Van Kieu, written as the pseudonym Qingxin Cairen (青心才人, Pure Heart Talented Man), in the Vietnamese artistic context, the tale can be considered as the “original text” that provides superabundant materials for other adaptations. The Tale of Kieu is one of the Nom poetries that has been most adapted to other art forms, particularly “cải lương” (reformed theatre). In this study, we analyze the case of video-cải lương Kim Van Kieu (directed by Nguyen Bach Tuyet), to determine modes of semiotic transposition from the narrative (narrative poem) to the performance/showing (video cải lương). This inter-semiotic translation process requires that the author adapts, selects, renounces, transforms as well as encodes/decodes, as semiotics, genre, and materials belonging to the verbal semiotic system to the nonverbal semiotic system, or vice versa. To concretize this, we analyze factors that were involved or omited during the adaptation of The Tale of Kieu to Kim Van Kieu.

Abstract:
On the basis of an interdisciplinary synthesis of historiography and semiotics, the article proposes a new way of analysing the conceptions of historians, who studied the war between the Moscow state and the Commonwealth in the middle of the XVII century. The attention is paid not to the search for genetic links and biographical pages in the writings of researchers working in the same era. But discovery is presented of the speech units that affect the production of discourses that add up specific narratives. The author seeks to trace the processes of convergence or estrangement of scientific ideas with/from the state request, which was delivered after the January uprising of 1863–1864 in the provinces of the Kingdom of Poland (Congress Poland) and the Northwest Krai. Therefore, the aim of the study is to verify the author's vision of the usefulness and complementarity of the semiotic understanding of the interaction of the text and its creator with the history of ideas. Such understanding is a significant part of the process of historiographic accumulation of information. Concretely, the author applies this synthesis to the micro level, i. e., to the stage of specific historical research.

Abstract:
This paper develops a semiotic-inferential model of verbal communication for incomplete information games: a language is seen as a set of conventional signs that point to types, and the credibility of a message depends on the strategic context. Formally, there is an encoding-decoding step where the receiver can understand the sender's message if and only if a common language is used, and an inferential step where the receiver may either trust the message's literal meaning or disregard it when updating priors. The epistemic requirement that information be transmitted through the literal meaning of the message uttered leads to an equilibrium concept distinct from a Perfect Bayesian Equilibrium, ruling out informative equilibria where language is not used in its ordinary sense. The paper also proposes a refinement by which the sender selects among equilibria if all sender types are willing to play the same equilibrium.

Yaremchuk, Olesya. TRAVEL ANTHROPOLOGY IN JOURNALISM: HISTORY AND PRACTICAL METHODS. Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, February 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.30970/vjo.2021.49.11069.

Abstract:
Our study’s main object is travel anthropology, the branch of science that studies the history and nature of man, socio-cultural space, social relations, and structures by gathering information during short and long journeys. The publication aims to research the theoretical foundations and genesis of travel anthropology, outline its fundamental principles, and highlight interaction with related sciences. The article’s defining objectives are the analysis of the synthesis of fundamental research approaches in travel anthropology and their implementation in journalism. When we analyze what methods are used by modern authors, also called «cultural observers», we can return to the localization strategy, namely the centering of the culture around a particular place, village, or another spatial object. It is about the participants-observers and how the workplace is limited in space and time and the broader concept of fieldwork. Some disciplinary practices are confused with today’s complex, interactive cultural conjunctures, leading us to think of a laboratory of controlled observations. Indeed, disciplinary approaches have changed since Malinowski’s time. Based on the experience of fieldwork of Svitlana Aleksievich, Katarzyna Kwiatkowska-Moskalewicz, or Malgorzata Reimer, we can conclude that in modern journalism, where the tools of travel anthropology are used, the practical methods of complexity, reflexivity, principles of openness, and semiotics are decisive. Their authors implement both for stable localization and for a prevailing transition.
