Abstract:
ABSTRACTProvincial government drug plans are the primary source of insurance for drugs taken by seniors in outpatient settings. The adequacy of this coverage has been called into question, given the increased clinical importance of pharma-ceuticals, shifts in the provision of health care from inpatient to outpatient settings, increased use of restrictive formularies, and reductions in provincial drug subsidies. To assess the adequacy of provincial coverage, we estimated what a typical single senior beneficiary of a provincial drug plan paid out-of-pocket in 1998 on prescription drugs covered by the public program, depending on his/her province of residence, level of drug consumption, and income. We compared provincial coverage for seniors with large drug costs. We also assessed provincial coverage of drugs that were introduced into the Canadian market between 1991 and 1998. The cost of drugs consumed by a senior in a given province and year was estimated by multiplying the average number of prescription drugs consumed by senior drug users by the average per-prescription costs. High drug consumption was defined as twice the average. We used the provincial drug cost sharing rules to estimate the senior's share of the total cost of drugs consumed. Mean out-of-pocket costs range from $42 to $1,302 per year, are lower for lower-income seniors, and increase with drug use, although the charge per drug decreases with the number used. There was up to a 12-fold variation among the provinces in the charges faced by seniors with similar incomes and drug use. All but one province limits costs to seniors with catastrophic drug costs, but there was 21-fold variation in the expenditure limits. The substantial variation in seniors' out-of-pocket drug costs raises questions about the distributive equity of drug subsidies in Canada. Recent evidence on the deleterious health effects of drug charges faced by seniors in Quebec and the fact that seniors in some other provinces face direct charges similar to those faced in Quebec raise the possibility of adverse consequences of drug charges in other provinces.

Abstract:
Abstract The purpose of this mixed-methods evaluation is to demonstrate the success from the past 20 class years of continuous use of senior mentors to teach geriatrics to approximately 3400 Year 1 and Year 2 medical students in a home visit model. Using a pre-test post-test design (N=131), we evaluated student satisfaction, self-confidence in various geriatrics assessments, and performance on an Objective Structured Clinical Evaluation (OSCE). We additionally conducted a formal qualitative evaluation of students’ open-ended reflections (N=97) across three years, from 2016-18, on what they learned. In addition, relying on the principles of community-based research, we collaborated with a volunteer senior on all aspects of this evaluation, and included a community of seniors at a large urban senior care high-rise to enhance our interpretive validity by asking seniors to reflect on a set of representative quotes for each qualitative theme. The senior mentor home visit model demonstrated high satisfaction, improved self-confidence in geriatric assessment, attainment of competencies, and improvement in attitude scores. With regard to the qualitative portion of the evaluation, six themes about learning were recognized: (1) how to perform an interview and exam in a home setting, (2) how life for seniors is different than students expected, (3) the value of physical infrastructure and amenities in senior housing, (4) the importance of senior’s community, including family, neighbors, spiritual community, (5) challenges with aging, and (6) strengths among seniors in coping with such challenges while maintaining individual agency.

Abstract:
In this study, we investigate whether audit managers' assessment of the quality of work their subordinates perform is influenced by the managers' prior impressions of these subordinates, and whether managers whom the firm considers outstanding are less susceptible to such an effect. We conduct an experiment using actual audit senior-manager teams. Each senior and manager participating in the experiment has been classified by his or her firm as either outstanding or average. Each manager is paired with two audit seniors (one outstanding senior and one average senior), and each evaluates the memos written by his or her paired seniors. Managers evaluate the quality of the memos twice: (1) first, with the identities of the seniors indicated on the memos, and (2) later, when the seniors' identities are not explicitly revealed. Results show that average managers evaluate memos written by outstanding seniors more favorably than those written by average seniors when they know the identities of the memos' authors, but not when the identities of the seniors are not revealed. Outstanding managers do not appear susceptible to this effect.

Abstract:
There has been increased research interest in senior entrepreneurs and their potential contribution to the global economy. Nevertheless, the extant literature on senior entrepreneurship is often limited to considering some individual factors of entrepreneurship behavior without considering other factors linked to seniors’ environment. In this paper, we aim to understand the factors enhancing seniors to start a new business in Europe; factors linked to seniors’ environment — such as internet and information and communication technologies (ICT) diffusion, the level of status and respect of successful entrepreneurs, relaying information about successful new businesses in the media — and individual factors — such as gender, education, job position, income, skills —. The analysis is based on two main sources of data — the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) and Eurostat — using a non-balanced panel dataset corresponding to a sample of 11 European countries covering 2006–2013. Findings of this study indicate that both individual and environmental factors contribute to seniors’ entrepreneurial behavior. Technology diffusion, personal skills, acquaintances’ entrepreneurial experiences, media relaying information about successful new businesses, and the senior employment rate are important factors of seniors’ starting new businesses. The findings provide valuable insights for policy makers to promote seniors’ entrepreneurship and provide better support for seniors to pursue entrepreneurial success.

Abstract:
The importance of using senior manpower to preemptively respond to the entry into a super-aged society and rapid social change is emerging. Up to now, the job support project for the elderly has remained at a level that is simple and one-time job creation. Accordingly, it is necessary to create jobs that can be actively utilized the specialized skills, knowledge, know-how, past experiences, and careers of seniors. This study intends to propose a support project that provides the basis for sustainable economic activity to seniors by operating a short-distance IT-based platform that can supply talents to those who want to receive the experience and wisdom of seniors in the living area. To summarize the project promotion process, we recruit senior participants and complete the education and training of a startup curriculum specialized for seniors (senior digital competency strengthening education + service education and communication education for activating intergenerational communication + basic entrepreneurship education) education and training to become ‘active seniors’. After that, those who have completed the training course can help start a business by providing 1:1 mentoring on startup items, social media publicity training, and on-site practical experience support, and be registered as a talent seller on the ‘Senior Short-distance Talent Sharing Platform.’ In other words, as a ‘short-distance senior talent sharing platform’, we aim to provide opportunities for ‘active seniors’ to advance into society and provide opportunities for local economic activity at the same time by establishing an official governance system. It is expected that seniors will have an active social participation attitude through work and an opportunity to generate income, and improve health.

Abstract:
This study examines whether personally performing other audit tasks can bias supervising seniors' going-concern judgments. During an audit, the senior performs some audit tasks him/herself and delegates other tasks to staff members. When personally performing an audit task, the senior would focus on the evidence related to that task. We predict that such evidence will have greater influence on the senior's subsequent going-concern judgment. The results of our experiment are consistent with our predictions. When provided with an identical set of information, seniors who performed another audit task for which the underlying facts of the case reflected positively (negatively) on the company's viability, subsequently made going-concern judgments that were relatively more positive (negative). Our results also demonstrate that the well-documented tendency of auditors to attend more to negative information does not always dominate auditors' information processing. Subjects who performed the task for which the underlying facts reflected positively on the company's viability directed their attention to such positive information and, consequently, both their memory and judgments were more positive than those of subjects in the other conditions. Recent findings indicating that biases in seniors' going-concern judgments may not be fully offset in the review process are discussed along with other potential implications of our results.

Abstract:
The large demand for residences, which today prevails in Stockholm, is something many people know of. Often there is talk of a housing bubble and the price per square meter in the region continues to increase. Despite this, the migratory propensity in Sweden decreased since 2007, while a large majority of countries in Europe have had an increased tendency for their inhabitants to move and is associated with the economic recovery. A well-functioning moving tendency has a great impact on a country's prosperity and development, and it is urgent to try to understand what it is that gets the Swedes to move from their current homes. An average Swedish moves that most during the age 20-35 years, and then the frequency decreases until retirement. Since a large proportion of pensioners are house owners, it is important to understand what it is that makes them move. An increasing of the frequency of relocation is preferred for the country, both from an economics- and social perspective as this gives opportunities for new families to move. This results that the country gets a better moving tendency. The purpose of this study is to get a better understanding of how people in Täby reason about moving. The people living in Täby that have been picked to participate in this study was born before 1970 and lives, or previously lived, in a villa. Based on a survey, the executor of this study will figure out what the house owners’ preferences and requirements are to move from houses to condominium. This study's purpose is for the government and industrials firm in the construction business to meet the house owners’ conditions and needs to make them feel secure enough to move. The result of this study’s survey suggests that there are major significant differences between the group of homeowners and residents of the condominium in the factor moving expenses. This means that the moving costs is a key factor for homeowners to move. The house owners who haven’t moved yet considers the moving costs to be a lot higher than those who moved and now lives in condominium. A potential push factor that can be constructed by the industrial firms in the construction business is helping the homeowners with the move. This service could be financed by being part of the sales price and this would increase the moving tendency in the circle of clients they want to reach out to.

Abstract:
Housing needs for the elderly are a function of several processes accompanying aging. In the case of visible, immigrant seniors, additional factors such as ethnic origin and their length of stay in Canada come into play. Sikhs are a predominant and one of the fastest growing sectors in the Canadian multicultural mosaic. This visible ethnic group has a long history of immigration to British Columbia. Canadian immigration policies have shaped the character (age-sex distribution, occupation, education, geographic location) of the Sikh community over the period of their immigration history. Immigration trends, acculturation of the Canadian-born generation, changing family patterns and the efforts of the community to maintain its culture, religion and language, all shape the housing needs of Sikh seniors in the Canadian context. At present, the demographic profile of Canadian Sikhs reveals that the majority of them are in the 20-50 age group. This profile combined with the influx of new immigrants including aged parents and other relatives, indicates an imminent increase in the number of Sikh elderly in Canada. This study traces the assimilation of this community in Vancouver, and examines the suitability of housing options available to the mainstream Canadian elderly, for the Sikh elderly. A particular example considered for the purpose of this thesis is the small-scale congregate housing (Abbeyfield) alternative. Information from literature and a clustered survey of elderly Sikhs in Vancouver city suggest the emerging need for an alternative to their traditional housing arrangements. Prospective residents for alternative housing are likely to be elderly, widowed Sikh males. For them, the Abbeyfield option due to its domestic scale and adaptability, has been viewed as a viable solution.

Abstract:
The assignment from Slottsbro AB was to construct an outdoor activity in modular form, without electronics, mechanics or weights as resistance, targeting seniors. To gain better understanding of what kind of activities seniors need and what problem areas they have, interviews were made with physiotherapists’, researchers and training instructors. Seniors were interviewed and answered questionnaires and observations of various kinds were made to gain further knowledge and inspiration. A literature study was made to gain knowledge of seniors’ health and physiology, fitness and movement exercises and fall prevention. Exercise is a great way for preventing falls, especially functional training, meaning training to manage everyday life. It is particularly balance, leg strength, explosive arm strength and mobility that need to be trained. During the construction phase sketches of various suggestions on equipment or motion exercises were made and were consulted with Slottsbro AB. CAD-models were constructed based on the previous decisions. From these CAD-models prototypes at scale of 1:10 were made in the University workshop. The models were later used to take product pictures outdoors, in order to give an idea of how a full-scale design would look like. Scale models were also used in the compulsory thesis exhibition. To show how the park should be used a stop film was made. It was meant as an illustrative element during the exhibition and final presentation. The modules that were developed were:  A bench with three different seat heights  A balance board  A staircase combined with an inclined plane  Bars in different heights to stand by and do different types of exercises,  Rings attach to rubber bands with different resistance  Windlass, curved pipe and spinning wheels The activity park was named Palaestra which means “training” in Latin.

Abstract:
Current COVID-19 pandemic has not only caused global concerns about individuals' health problems, but it has also triggered a change in consumer behavior. Even if only time will tell whether these changes will be temporary or permanent, we can begin to observe the change in how the pandemic affects demographic shopping behavior. Many studies confirm that the silver generation is not a homogeneous group and is most affected by the pandemic. The aim of the paper is to examine the consumer habits and patterns of seniors when buying food during the pandemic in 2021 in Nitra city (Slovakia) and Báčsky Petrovec (Srbsko). The segmentation factor is their age. The results of earlier surveys from 2020 confirmed that the seniors aged 50-64 are a heterogeneous group with higher variability of responses. Due to the greater isolation and greater restriction of movement, people aged 65 and over were less variable in their responses to food purchases. The purpose of this study is to broaden the knowledge base about the attitudes and buying behavior of the silver generation during the pandemic by comparison from two European countries, evaluated by Pearson contingency coefficient. The results of the research confirmed the assumption of segmentation of seniors by age. Younger seniors showed greater variability in responses than the group of older seniors. All Slovak senior respondents reported a change in food purchases during the pandemic (100%), but in Serbia 6% did not change their purchasing practices during the pandemic.

Abstract:
The divorce rate in the U.S. has declined in recent decades. In 1990, 19 people per 1,000 currently married individuals divorced compared to 15 per 1,000 in 2019. The overall trend in the divorce rate masks substantial variation by age. The divorce rate for younger people has been on the decline since the 1990s (Kennedy and Ruggles, 2014) whereas the divorce rate among those 50 and older has more than doubled since 1990 (Brown and Lin, 2012). This family profile updates FP-19-13 and charts the divorce rates by age groups in 1990 and 2019 using U.S Census data and the 2019 American Community Survey.
