Full textOne of the most important question in the present anthropological research concerns the theoretical and practical way of taking into consideration social dynamics as a basic property of any society. In order to provide material for an answer, the thesis lays down two assumptions: - a theoretical one: social dynamics results from the action of the relations of "force" and "sense" which bind and oppose the diverse categories of social actors, it is to say that it results from the action of the differential logics of power. - a practical one: social dynamics may be apprehended through the study of a set of statements and practices taken as "phenomene social total". With regard to the maninka society, the matrimonial insti- tution was the phenomenon chosen to reveal the dynamical process: the power relationship between social "elden" and social "youngers" is the centre of pressures tending to modify a "relation aux hommes"-dominated logic toward a social logic in which the "relation aux choses" would be determinant of the specificity of social relations in this very society

Full textThe thesis focuses on political transformation in Benin on a discursive level and illustrates how religious ideas and practices participate in the construction of new political categories and the ideological frame of power. The analysis focuses both on the changes in the political discourse of former president Mathieu Kérékou from the authoritarian period (1972-1989) to the democratic period (1996-2006), and on the popular interpretations of his discourse. Thereby, the thesis also takes up classical themes from political anthropology proposing a new analysis of the semantic and symbolic exchange between the religious and the political spheres; an analysis intended to contribute to the reflection on political power and the State in contemporary Africa

Full textThis thesis analyses the uses and meanings, as well as the changes and continuities, of the feasts and celebrations of royal power, independence and the new republic destined to commemorate the regimes and to construct supreme authority in Lima between 1735 and 1928. The main objective is to understand two dimensions. First the uses that social actors, collective and individual, give political ritual as well as the meanings they are able to provide them with in each circumstance it is put into practise. Secondly, it examines the tranformations and continuities of these normative schemes that are charaterised by their relative stability in the long duration. We will demonstrate , using ritual as a prism, to what degree it is possible to observe changes in the continuity, as well as continuities in change in historical process

Full textOriginating from grassroots initiatives, the field of language education for allophone adult migrants has progressively become, in France, more institutionalized and professionalized. Perhaps the most striking recent development in this process is the publication of the French as a Language of Integration reference document (Référentiel Français Langue d’Intégration—FLI) in October 2011. Indeed, the use or non-use of one or another of the lexemes of the “insertion-integration-assimilation” paradigm has been subject to debate within political and everyday discourse since the 1980s. The designation of one of these lexemes thus constitutes a clear statement.Considering the regularly reoccurring debate over the naming of the process by which migrants and society interact, which appertains to various social domains, my research aims at shedding light on the uses of the forementioned paradigm’s lexemes, especially within the institutionalized and professionalized field of migrant language education. My thesis also aims at defining this field’s current organizational and professional structures. From three discursive subgroups, whose speakers occupy distinct social positions (lexicographers, institutional experts, professional language educators), I will highlight the characteristics of their diverse semantic understandings of the paradigm’s lexemes. Notably, the conceptual tools used to conduct my study will be those of discourse analysis. On one side, through lexical discourse analysis that takes into account the characteristics of the studied actors’ real uses of the paradigm’s lexemes, I will identify elements of meaning construction, thereby bringing to light the resulting structuring semantic oppositions and grey areas favouring the emergence of semantic conflicts. On the other hand, I will broaden my analysis to take into account each subgroup’s specificities, which are based on distinct discursive genres, constructing and testifying to the power relationships at play within the field. This thesis therefore lays the foundation for a problematization of the field of allophone migrant language education, both from the point of view of its organization and orientations set by the State as well as that of the needs which emerge from the discourse of educators in terms of initial and continuing education

Full textThis memoir examines the dynamics inherent to the movements in the exercise of power in the Middle Ages, taking as example the case of Frederick Barbarossa, emperor of the Holy Roman Empire from 1152 to 1190. By studying the Gesta Friderici I Imperatoris as the main source of this paper, the goal of this text is to expose the ways in which movements and travels were anchoring parts in the exercise of power. The first part consists in a brief historical overview establishing the situation of the Empire before Barbarossa’s coronation, as well as an exhibition of the evolution of power and institutions linked to its exercise in the Empire. Afterwards, through the writings of Otto of Freising and Rahewin, we see that the sovereign had to travel his lands in order to both be rooted in the tradition of the German itinerant kingship, while also striving towards the new legal concepts of the XIIth century. Thus, Frederick’s reign was at the center of a redefinition of power in the Empire, in direct opposition to the papacy. The studied book, which was actually a tool aiming to spread the imperial ideology of the Hohenstaufen dynasty, gives the reader a better understanding of the needs for the emperor’s journeys in the exercise of his functions, while also representing the monarch as the only holder of the supreme Christian power.
Audouy, Laurèn. "Le principe de subsidiarité au sens du droit de la Convention Européenne des Droits de l'Homme." Thesis, Montpellier, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015MONTD054/document.
Full textAs part of the European Convention, the principle of subsidiarity is marked by ambiguity. Originating from judges, it has not been formally defined in legal texts nor in any related jurisprudence and is therefore characterized by a semantic and legal indeterminacy. Featuring both a procedural and a tangible dimension, it remains a fundamental principle of European law. On the one hand, it structures, the system’s organization and operations. On the other hand, it guides the court of Strasbourg’s interpretation and review. Naturally ambiguous but still guiding European law, the principle of subsidiarity is presented as a flexible and malleable principle, and therefore adaptable. The analysis of its implementation in the European jurisprudence highlights its inconsistency and variability at the free disposal of the court of Strasbourg. However, in the light of the current context of an unprecedented saturation of the system and therefore of an urgent reassertion of its subsidiary nature, a fluctuating use of the principle is assessed differently to make it not a guarantee of national liberties, but a guide for them. As a driving force for increased accountability of member states, the principle of subsidiarity appears to be essential to the judicial policy of the European court

Full textBased on the idea that the subsidiaries of a company are able to call into question the decisions of senior management (the parent company), the holistic approach developed in this study assumes that an organization can be a “being”, implying thereby that the information in its possession is external to the individuals who compose it. This raises the question of whether it is conceivable to ignore the individual in such a relationship of domination. This thesis proposes a model based on the results which show the difficult exclusion of the individual in a meta-organizational context (in which members would be organizations and not individuals). Along these same lines, the organization’s human dynamics are at the heart of this research: there exists by and through the individual a dynamic resulting from actual activity that allows the organization to live by itself, while also allowing prescribe to evolve. Although the results show that the organization is not a dead and strengthless object, and it has the opportunity to live by itself, it is the individuals who —through their conditional commitments— allow the separate existence of an organizational structure’s intra-consciousness, which imposes rights and obligations. In this perspective, the proposed model aims to draw the structures of abstract social reality (referred as Entity X in this study) by showing the strengths and organizational constraints that weigh on individual members, while raising the human capacity to emerge from the structures prescribed by the sensemaking of links and transversal structures for cooperation that originate from the actual activity
Caillaud, Johann. "Le standard pratiqué : une nouvelle voie de standardisation des processus métier ouverte par une recherche-action." Thesis, Paris 9, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013PA090040/document.
Full textBusiness processes undergo standardization. This standardization is achieved through domination, confrontation and incorporation, means that have their origins in methods like Taylorism, reengineering or the implementation of tools such as ERP systems. Prescription and standardization of business processes, however, create problems for organizations, at the strategic, functional and operating levels. Our research attempts to uncover on one hand novel ways of standardizing processes and on the other the conditions facilitating the emergence of these new ways.Convinced that change cannot be defined any more as the imposition of an a priori model or a promulgated standard, we investigate how work practices may contribute to the creation of standards, and result in “practiced” standards. To find solutions to the problems met with current ways of standardizing, we propose a model, which places practice at the heart of a spiral of creation of organizational knowledge. Through an action research project, we analyze the effects of the implementation of this model in two different settings, namely a public banking institute and a conglomerate of national press, requiring different conditions for change. Our findings, which differ considerably from one case to the other, highlight how the “practiced” standard emerges as a novel way of standardizing. First, we notice that the “practiced” standard feeds on the promulgated standard to anchor business processes in the whole organization. Second, the emergence and the development of the “practiced” standard bring to light specific processes that operate in the organization, namely a process of sensemaking, the support of a structure of power parallel to the official one, and a process of organizational innovation

Full textCourts’ authority stands very high in the United Kingdom and in the United States. The institutional position of the Judiciary in France, at least for judicial judges, is more precarious. The position of French administrative law judges is different and comes closer to the situation of British and American Judges. A comparison between those judges and the constitutional systems they evolve in appears to be an effective way to understand how courts’ authority is built. Two factors are actually decisive. The first one, which is the most important, is related to the judge’s function. It is crucial that the judge is able to say what his judicial duty covers and where are its limits. Similarly, he has to be able to resist executive and legislative encroachments on his function. When those criteria are met, the judge’s authority is necessarily strong. The second factor only comes next. It appears indeed that the judge’s authority is acknowledged and strengthened when his independence is strongly protected, both in its individual and institutional sense. Once those factors are highlighted, one question comes up. Would it be wise to resort to legal transplants to improve the institutional position of judicial judges in France? It is not that easy. Comparative constitutional law is a very useful tool. However, it must be used carefully

Full textMy research aims to examine from the archaeological record organization of power elites indigenous ee of what we might call "signs of royalty" present in Southern Italy in the territories which the Campania, the Sannio, the Lucania (Basilicata ) and essapia (Apulia). Well aware of the great historical problem (for example, the almost total lack of indigenous written sources on the subject) and archaeological (which are actually signs to identify a royalty of meaning Greek and / or how to distinguish them from those rather linked to indigenous world) the This argument has gone thus forming from an idea and the will of Pierre Carlier to analyze and document the archaeological evidence of these manifestations of power that could be recognized as signs of royalty setting them in a specific historical period rich sources of Greek origin but poor in terms of indigenous. His work "The royauté en Grèce avant Alexandre", while analyzing a different social context in a wider span, was the starting point for this research that his intention was to go to complete the geographic landscape also including the south Italy and Magna Grecia. In the remainder of the work, and with the acquisition of the data collected from the various geographical areas considered, we have realized the almost total absence to date of inscriptions, literary sources and whatnot matrix indigenous can refer explicitly to a indigenous royalty, the only statements of fact these elements from a historical point of view, as we shall see, are only of Greek origin

Full textInterest in employee empowerment persists given the wide range of positive individual and organizational outcomes associated with an empowered workforce. Psychologically empowered employees perform better (Ahearne et al., 2005), undertake extra-role behaviour (Den Hartog & De Hoogh, 2009; Raub & Robert, 2010), are more satisfied (Vecchio et al., 2010), are more intrinsically motivated (Chen et al., 2011; Zhang & Bartol, 2010), are more committed (Hassan et al., 2012; Konczak et al., 2000; Mare, 2007), and are more engaged (Tuckey et al., 2012). Despite these positive outcomes communicated to leaders, interventions fail to reach the expected results. Yet, existing research rarely examine empowerment from the view of the leader. This study attempts to fill this gap by elucidating on factors that contribute to our understanding of why certain leaders empower whereas others don’t. To that end, relational, personality and situational variables and their relationship with leader empowering behaviour were examined on a sample of leaders within seven ministries of a Canadian provincial government. It was found that the more inclusive the leader self-defines in his/her relationships at work, the more likely he/she is to empower subordinates. The personality attributes of honesty-humility (positively), moral identity (positively), and desire for dominance (negatively) were also found to be associated to leader empowering behaviour. Positional insecurity was found to negatively predict leader empowering behaviour. Furthermore, results reveal that leaders with a higher sense of power are more likely to empower, in divergence with the literature on power as a corrupting force (Kipnis, 1972; Maner & Mead, 2007). Also, contrary to expectation, the involvement trait of organizational culture was found to be unrelated to leader empowering behaviour. This finding is consistent with the research on power and it’s suppressing of contextual influences in favour of more internal traits to the leader (Galinsky et al., 2003). Leader sense of power and collective self-concept emerged as the two most important variables predicting leader empowering behaviour. This study has significant implications for the field of leadership. For a more empowering organization, it is recommended that leadership programs work to develop a more inclusive self-concept in their leaders, following which, they can be entrusted with more power.
