Based on the equivalent simplified model of the vibrating beam, the equivalent RLC circuit of vibrating-beam-type resonant accelerometer is described in detail, which shows that equivalent circuit contains a variable capacitances and a variable resistances due to the acceleration. Using the electromechanical coupling factor presented here and the mode function of the transverse deflection vibration of the double clamped beam, the equivalent parameters of the accelerometer with the size of the beam and comb are derived. These results are the bases of designing the drive /sense circuit of the vi

In the present paper, an equivalent Three Degree of Freedom (DoF) system of a bi-hinge beam, which has infinity number of degree of freedoms because possesses distributed mass and stiffness along its length, is presented. Based on the vibration partial differential equation of the abovementioned bi-hinge beam, an equivalent, mathematically, three-degree of freedom system, where the equivalent mass matrix is analytically formulated with reference on specific mass locations. Using the Three DoF model, the first three fundamental mode-shapes of the real beam can be identified. Furthermore, taking

There are many different mathematical models that can be used to describe relations between energy machines in the power-split hybrid drive system. Usually, they are created based on simulations or measurements in bench (laboratory) conditions. In that sense, however, these are the idealized conditions. It is not known how the internal combustion engine and electrical machines work in real road conditions, especially during acceleration. This motivated the authors to set the goal of solving this research problem. The solution was to implement and develop the model predictive control (MPC) meth

This study presents an equivalent circuit model for the analysis of wireless power transfer (WPT) through both electric and magnetic couplings using merely a resonant coupler. Moreover, the frequency split phenomenon, which occurs when transmitting couplers are near receiving couplers, is explained. This phenomenon was analyzed using simple circuit models derived via a mode decomposition technique. To verify the proposed method, a resonant coupler using mixed coupling was designed and its efficiency was compared with the result obtained using a commercial electromagnetic solver. The results of

AbstractThe present article proposes the closed-form solution for analytical prediction of stability lobes in internal turning process. The passively damped boring bar is modeled as a cantilevered Euler-Bernoulli beam with constant cross sectional properties in which a Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) is embedded for the purpose of chatter suppression. The non-dimensional equations of motion are derived, assuming that the boring bar dynamics is well-represented by the fundamental mode of vibration. The stability of equivalent two-DOF dynamic model, i.e. boring bar with TMD, is analyzed in frequency dom

ABSTRACT Provided a random realization of the cosmological model, observations of our cosmic neighbourhood now allow us to build simulations of the latter down to the non-linear threshold. The resulting local Universe models are thus accurate up to a given residual cosmic variance. Namely some regions and scales are apparently not constrained by the data and seem purely random. Drawing conclusions together with their uncertainties involves then statistics implying a considerable amount of computing time. By applying the constraining algorithm to paired fixed fields, this paper diverts the orig

Print culture, as the call for this issue suggests, has dominated the world for 500 years, but also suggests that print’s hegemony may now be under threat from new communications technologies. There are a number of perspectives from which to view the ‘threats’ to which print culture is subject, the longer term effects this will have and, particularly, on what it will mean to be human in the future of print culture. I’d like to address this issue by turning my attention to one dimension of this question that seems essentially absent from the discourses which surround it. I’

‘Complex(ity)’ is currently fashionable in the humanities. Fashions come and go, but in this article I argue that the interest in complexity connects with something deeper, an intellectual revolution that began before complexity became trendy, and will continue after the spotlight passes on. Yet to make this case, and understand and advance this revolution, we need a better take on ‘complexity’. ‘Complex’ is of course complex. In common use it refers to something ‘composed of many interrelated parts’, or problems ‘so complicated or intricate as to be hard to deal with’. I

Song dedications are among commercial radio’s most enduring formats. Yet those very few studies which address music radio rarely consider its role within a consumer economy. As John Patrick noted when analysing ABC broadcaster Christopher Lawrence’s popular (and commercially exploited) Swoon genre as a form of nostalgic Utopianism, many music analysts view music listening as constructing a cultural space of other times and places, when romantic love held sway, when the certainties of religion vanquished doubt, and when authentic folk culture gave a sense of belonging to traditional ways of thi

This thesis, for the first time in literature, introduces a comprehensive study about analog controller designs for MEMS vibratory gyroscopes. A controller of a MEMS gyroscope is mandatory for robust operation, which is insensitive to sensor parameters and ambient con- ditions. Errors in the controller design not only deteriorate transient performance, such as settling time and overshoot, but also cause performance degradation due to stability problems. Accordingly, true controller design for a gyroscope is critical work in terms of functionality and system performance. This thesis gives detai

This paper presents the design, fabrication, and experimental results of a multiple-beam tuning-fork gyroscope (MB-TFG). Based on a numerical model of thermoelastic damping, a multiple-beam tuning-fork structure is designed with high Quality factors (Qs) in its two operation modes. A simple mask that defines the device through trenches is employed to implement this MB-TFG design on silicon-on-insulator wafers. The highest measured Qs of the fabricated MB-TFGs in vacuum are 255,000 in the drive-mode and 103,000 in the sense-mode, at a frequency of 15.7kHz. Under a frequency difference of 4Hz be
