Diffusion MRI provides a unique opportunity to study the brain tissue architecture at a microscopic level. More specifically, it allows to infer biophysical properties of the axons in the white matter in-vivo. Microstructural parameters are widely used in multi-subject studies to track pathological processes, follow normal development and aging, or investigate behaviour. This thesis aims to identify and potentially address the limitations and pitfalls in voxelwise comparison of diffusion MRI parameters across subjects. To allow for accurate matching of brain structures across subjects, non-lin

Assessments designed to estimate the probability of sexual offense recidivism have gained popularity due to research that suggests these instruments are psychometrically sound for this purpose. The Static-2002 (Hanson & Thornton, 2003), an actuarial instrument of sexual recidivism, has been validated in specific populations, but in the absence of multicultural populations. It is necessary to establish the validity of the Static-2002 for a multicultural population, especially considering the increasing impetus to mandate measures of sexual recidivism. Mass-spectrometry based proteomics has become an indispensable tool for molecular biology and clinical research because of its ability to identify and quantify thousands of proteins. When combined with laser capture microdissection (LCM), MS-based proteomics may be used to investigate disease-associated changes in the proteome of specific tissue regions or cell populations. Such specificity is essential because different anatomical regions often have distinct and diverse functions and may behave differently under pathological conditions. However, the number of proteins that may be identified a

Addressing issues with sensitivity and specificity in TBI assessment this study compared the performance on neuropsychological tests and results from qEEG assessment between a heterogeneous TBI (N=20) group and a matched normal control group (N=20). Effect sizes of these differences were large. This was also true for the amplitude of the qEEG parameter P3NoGo along with P3Go latency and theta power in the temporal and fronta

In low-resource settings, obtaining accurate weight-for-height Z-scores can be challenging. This is due to factors such as the lack of equipment to measure height and weight accurately and the minimal training of community health workers. To address this issue, the Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) serves as a simple tool to identify wasted children. However, some researchers and practitioners argue that relying solely on MUAC may fail to identify many wasted children, leading to delayed intervention and potential death.
