Abstract:
Summary Since 1994, alcohol septal ablation (ASA) has been used as a minimally invasive treatment of patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy, resistant to conservative medical therapy. This catheter-based intervention consists of injecting absolute alcohol in a septal perforator to induce infarction of the hypertrophied septum and thus diminish the left ventricle outflow tract obstruction. This reduction of the gradient is associated with reduction of symptoms and left ventricle remodeling. The procedure was improved after the introduction of myocardial contrast echocardiography

Various sequelae of alcohol septal ablation for hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy have been reported. Of note, some cases of cardiac tamponade after alcohol septal ablation cannot be well explained. We describe the case of a 78-year-old woman with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy in whom cardiac tamponade developed one hour after alcohol septal ablation, probably unrelated to mechanical trauma. At that time, we noted a substantial difference in the red blood cell-to-white blood cell ratio between the pericardial effusion (1,957.4) and the peripheral blood (728.3). In addition to p

Hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy іs a relatively common condition and one of the most common causes of sudden cardiac death in young age. One of the options for the surgical treatment of this pathology is septal myoectomy, which has been the gold standard for decades. However, despite this, surgical treatment is intended for young patients with a low risk of postoperative complications, while patients with concomitant diseases and a higher surgical risk require alternative treatment. Today, alcohol septal ablation is considered an effective, minimally invasive method for treating hypert

Alcohol septal ablation (ASA) has shown to be a safe and effective procedure for treatment of symptomatic hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy (HOCM) for more than 20 years with results similar to those of surgical myectomy. The first septal branch of the left anterior descending artery (LAD) is located and 96% alcohol is instilled to induce an artificial myocardial infarction and necrosis at the base of the hypertrophied septum. Now we present our first experience of a patient with HOCM with a very high left ventricular outflow tract gradient who had successful alcohol septal ablation. Car

Abstract OBJECTIVES There is very little evidence comparing the safety and efficacy of alcohol septal ablation versus septal myectomy for a septal reduction in patients with hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy. This study aimed to compare the immediate and long-term outcomes of these procedures. METHODS Following propensity score matching, we retrospectively analysed outcomes in 105 patients who underwent myectomy and 105 who underwent septal ablation between 2011 and 2017 at 2 reference centres. RESULTS The mean age was 51.9 ± 14.3 and 52.2 ± 14.3 years in the myectomy and ablation groups
