Full textThis empirical and synchronic study focuses on the actual uses of Spanish copulas ser and estar in predicative constructions in Mexican Spanish. The constructions studied here are those which admit both copulas. These constructions have been traditionally distinguished following Carlson’s (1977) Individual-level Predicates and Stage-level Predicates. Nevertheless, we have noticed that some of the occurrences of estar in Mexican Spanish cannot be explained by the Carlsonian distinction. This copula seems to be undergoing an extension process in some of the varieties of Latin American Spanish. Authors have studied Spanish copulas from different approaches and perspectives. To better understand the complexity of the matter, we have established a critical history of this issue. Then, following a discovery process based mostly on our native speaker’s intuition, we analyze the question applying a comparative experimental task between Mexican Spanish and European Spanish speakers, which shows important internal variations among Mexican native speakers. Finally, we propose a multifactorial analysis of our “natural”, i.e. spontaneous, written and oral corpora from different sources, which allows us to compare different patterns, and to identify which ones are significant for choosing estar. To conclude, the various potential semantic values entailed by copula choice are analyzed

Full textUnder a multidisciplinary approach that combines linguistics, foreign language acquisition and applied linguistics, this dissertation aims to analyze three features of the Spanish language that French-speaking learners find hard to master and use effectively 1) past tenses, 2) modal choice and 3) ser vs estar. We consider tenses as deictics and, therefore, we propose not to separate them from the notions of time and space. Moreover, the existence of an epistemic space (the speaker’s situation) and a deictic centre (the space from which the speaker organizes his utterance) will enable us to explain the modal values of the tenses. Furthermore, we intend to demonstrate that the organization topic-comment influences the choice of the tense and the mood in a sentence. As for the difference between ser and estar, we focus on the aspectual nuances (dynamic versus static) that each verb carries. Our conclusions in linguistics are completed by case studies: one case study in foreign language acquisition and three case studies in applied linguistics. Through a cross-sectional study in language acquisition, we have been able to describe the interlanguage of a sample group whose subjects were French monolingual college students. We also carried three study cases in order to determine how our teaching, which was inspired by the analysis of these features, helped first and second year French college students perform better. The case studies in foreign language acquisition and applied linguistics have helped us to identify the rules that govern these features of the Spanish language

Full textThe focus of our work is on “portmanteau words”. Indeed, results of studies of semantics and structural lexicology have shown that there is no sign that is not derived from another sign and therefore of lexical creation which is not a reminder of already existing structures. At the heart of reflection on the motivation of the sign, a portmanteau word represents the sign grasped in its totality and its segmentality. To understand the technique of the arrangement that leads to the formation of words, Alain Finkielkraut, argues that it is paramount to transgress the linearity of the sign by reciting one’s speech lesson backwards. The portmanteau word considers this assumption seriously considering that in reality words contained in the dictionary constitute stray pieces of an unknown lexicon. Henceforth, a word is no longer a group of different sounds corresponding to a meaning, a passive vehicle carrying a signification as taught by the old grammar dictionary. This is why Freud and Saussure have clearly demonstrated in a peculiar way, that through the mechanism of the slip, the meaning of a word can also be understood by metanalysis for one, and by anagrammatic derivation for the other. Thus, whatever the process, the analog mechanism remains the same, ensuring the fusion of sound and meaning. Finally, the purpose of this thesis will be to explore, in the context of a semiological study, the mechanisms at work in the formation of portmanteau words as well as the effects of meaning and generated style by this type of creation

Full textBackground: Mental disorders among children and adolescents has increased since the 90´s. The presence of bullying has not changed. Bullying leads to negative psychological health effects. The school nurse has an important role in the health promoting work in schools. Purpose: The aim of this study is to describe school nurses perceptions of their role in the work towards bullying in schools. Methodology: A qualitative method with eleven interviews made via e-mail. The interviews were analyzed with an inductive qualitative content analysis. Result: The result is presented in four themes. The result shows that the school nurse wants to but don´t have enough time to work towards bullying, the scholl nurse identify and encounter students involved in bullyin, cooperate with other professionals at school and also work preventively towards bullying. Conclusion: The school nurses didn´t perceive themselves as the most prominent person in the anti-bullying work in schools. Their perceptions of their role was to discover and to encounter children involved in bullying and the health dialogue is their main tool.

Full textIn this study we have examined the views and thoughts about “the prostitute” among social workers. The aim has also been to analyze the impact of their social construction of “the prostitute” on social work. To examine this, we have made a qualitative interview study in which we have interviewed seven people from five different organizations, for example social services. Our analysis of the data is inspired by systematic text condensation, leading to a result which we then analyzed with the help of social constructionism and the concepts of categorization, stereotyping and shame. Our results show that the social workers have limited knowledge about this topic. The construction of “the prostitute” is affected by the shame in society that is connected to the topic. This leads to consequences in the social work. The social workers don’t speak or ask their clients about prostitution in the meetings, as the topic is considered to be too sensitive and shameful. The social work in this field is mainly focused on girls which indicates that women are constructed as the most exposed participants in prostitution.

Full textAnorexia Nervosa is a common eating disorder which often is affecting teenage girls. There are no explanations to why a person develops anorexia nervosa, but there are some explanatory factors that are frequently occurring. It may relate to the reproduction of the female and male ideal in the society, but it may also relate to low self-esteem of the person and the need of control. Since it is most common to develop anorexia nervosa during puberty we would like to examine what knowledge the student health services, i.e. the school nurses and counselors, has in secondary schools in Malmö.We want to examine whether the schools has any preventive bodies regarding anorexia nervosa. We are also interested in how the student health service handles the interaction with a person that developed anorexia nervosa. It is of great value that persons who works close to youth has a wide knowledge regarding anorexia nervosa in order for them to discover it as soon as possible. The persons we have interviewed have good knowledge regarding both discovering signals, symptoms and possible reasons for anorexia nervosa. Furthermore the persons we interviewed also have a proper way of responding to and treating persons that has developed anorexia nervosa. On the contrary we discovered that the preventive bodies on the schools are too few and we argue that there are more to be done.

Full textIn this thesis, the study of the Copulus verbs Ser and Estar is approached from two complementary points of view. On the one hand, a grammatical analysis of a large corpus of authentic oral occurrences is carried out in order to evaluate the relevance of certain theoretical tools belonging to a cognitive approach to the question. On the other hand, from a second language teaching context, experimental research is conducted to examine the influence that the type of grammatical approach used in teaching can have on learners' outcomes. In both cases, priority is given to the empirical validation of working hypotheses according to methodologies belonging, in one case, to linguistics and, in another case, to language didactics. In this way, it was possible to identify the field of specialization of each of the disciplines in terms of the description of the above-mentioned copulas, as well as the points of convergence between the fields of study concerned

Full textThis thesis examines the alternation in of the Romani copula si and the subject clitics lo; -li/-la; -le. It is a linguistic phenomenon that is absent from all the Romani varieties spoken in Europe and which according to Adamou (2013) has been developed under the influence of Spanish in the Romani communities who have settled in Latin America since the 19th century. This study has been possible thanks to the collection of original data from bilingual speakers of the community of La Rinconada in the State of Veracruz in Mexico. Based on the analysis of a spontaneous oral corpus of approximately 16 hours and responses from 60 participants to a questionnaire of copula choice, I was able to identify the variables underlying the use of copulas in both languages. The linguistic variables described for the variation of the copulas ser and estar in Spanish, as for example the frame of reference and the type of predicate, are also relevant to understand the use of copulas in Romani. However, it appears clearly that the Romani subject clitics are particularly dynamic in present affirmative constructions of third person where they tend to overshadow the traditional Romani copula si. It is possible to argue that this expansion that started under the influence of Spanish is now in turn influencing the use of Spanish copulas. Indeed, there is in parallel a dynamic use of the copula estar and extension to contexts previously covered by the copula ser, following a more general trend documented in Mexican Spanish

Full textThe linguistic concept of vicariancy has never been defined precisely. The purpose of this thesis is therefore on the one hand to determine a notion of general linguistics, and on the other hand to study the main vicariant words in French, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. We will see that vicariant words can be characterized by their incompleteness, by their abstract semantism and by the fact of being semantically neutral with regard to their antecedent. We will study from this point of view the verb faire, the que vicariant, the relative and interrogative pronouns, chose, truc, machin and bidule, the third-person pronouns, the pronouns y and en, the demonstrative pronouns and tous and tout, and, each time, their Italian, Spanish and Portuguese equivalents. Our approach is essentially based on Gustave Guillaume’s psychomecanics of language, which has the advantage of being a complete linguistics, since it considers the langue as well as the transition from this one to the discours. The psychomecanics of language postulates that the sense can be described as a movement of thought, and we will try to reconstruct this movement of thought for each one of the vicariant words we have enumerated.The linguistic concept of vicariancy has never been defined precisely. Full textDet mål- och kunskapsrelaterade betygssystemet ger eleven rätt till information om kursmål och krav för varje betygsnivå, varför nationella mål och betygskriterier ska brytas ner lokalt och tydliggöras.
Syftet med undersökningen är att söka kunskap om hur karaktärsämneslärare på Barn och fritidsprogrammet resonerar kring de faktorer som påverkar relationen mellan förankring av kursplanen och elevens lärande samt hur förutsättningar och metoder för förankringsarbetet ser ut.
I bakgrunden presenteras betygssystemet samt Barn- och fritidsprogrammet. Forskning på området redovisas utifrån Selghed, Tholin och Tsagalidis avhandlingar. Deweys och Newtons teorier om lärande respektive förståelse är teoretiska perspektiv i undersökningen.
Kvalitativa intervjuer av sex karaktärsämneslärare genomförs och bearbetas utifrån en hermeneutisk vetenskapsteoretisk ansats.
Undersökningen visar att förankringsarbete är en process som tar tid samt att det innefattar lärande av målrelaterat arbetssätt. Meningsfullhet inför lärandet är det som motiverar medan förståelse för vad som ska läras samt vad som krävs är förutsättningar i ett fungerande förankringsarbete.
Svårigheter i förankringsarbetet visade sig vara dels pedagogiska men även bero på att styrdokumenten och betygssystemet upplevs som förvirrande.
Förankringsarbetet bör anpassas till individernas förutsättningar och eleverna behöver tydlig vägledning genom kursplanen för att kunna förstå och hantera mål och betygskriterier i studierna. Förankringsarbete som motiverar eleverna innefattar verklighetsnära undervisning där eleverna deltar aktivt i planering och tolkning av centrala styrdokument. Återkoppling till kursplanen hjälper eleven att förstå hur betygssystemet fungerar samt ökar förståelse för bedömning.

Full textSom ett led i att kunna erbjuda bättre information och service till nyföretagare har det i Väster- och Norrbotten initierats ett projekt – Bibliotekskompaniet – bibliotek och företag i samverkan. Projektet syftar till att utbilda bibliotekarier i att bli bättre rustade att möta företagarnas informationssökningsbehov genom att utveckla bibliotekariernas kunskaper inom företagande och vad det kan innebära. Projektet syftar också till att öka företagares kunskaper om vilka slags resurser biblioteken inom projektet kan erbjuda som kan vara nyttigt för dem.
Syftet med denna uppsats är att undersöka vad representanter för kommunernas service för nyföretagande i Västerbotten använder sig av för informationskällor och hur de ser biblioteken som en resurs för informationssökning. Uppsatsen fokuserar på representanter för kommunernas service för nyföretagande för att de i ett tidigt skede i förstudien till projektet besvarade en enkät för projektets räkning vars syfte var att undersöka eventuellt intresse av samarbete mellan respondenterna och biblioteken.
Uppsatsen visar att respondenterna i dagsläget endast använder sig av biblioteken som resurs för privat räkning, och i väldigt liten eller inte alls när det gäller sin yrkesutövning. Resultatet visar också att respondenterna har en diversifierad uppsättning informationskällor som de anser vara tillräckliga för att sköta sitt arbete med rådgivning och stöd till nyföretagare. Detta resultat bygger på respondenternas mångåriga erfarenhet av affärsrådgivning, aktiv omvärldsbevakning och, det som respondenterna pekar på är det viktigaste, ett väl fungerande nätverk med många olika kompetenser. Sett ur respondenternas perspektiv är informationskällorna tillräckliga, och de anser att projekt som Bibliotekskompaniet – bibliotek och företag i samverkan bara blir ytterligare en aktör på den redan fulla aktörsarenan för företagare. Visserligen stänger de inte helt dörren till bibliotek som informationsförmedlande resurs men önskar förtydliganden angående syftet med projektet.

Full textThe latin verbs ESSE and STARE have derivatives in all Romance languages. Among the latter, Spanish draws a clear distinction between ser and estar. The syntactic and semantic roles of these two verbs are quite homogeneously divided but it is still one of the questions most discussed in Spanish studies. Italian verbs essere and stare, however, have not received as much critical attention, probably because the speaking subject is less compelled to choose between the two than in Spanish: these two verbs are then considered interchangeable. In keeping with the axiom of linguistic sign motivation, I will argue that two linguistic forms cannot be strictly equivalent. In the present study, I will analyse the Italian signifiers essere and stare in light of their Spanish equivalents ser and estar. I posit that essere and ser both convey the same instructions but that these take effect differently in the two languages, just as stare and estar. In the first part, I will present an overview of the literature on the issue, I will tackle the notion of existence, and finally, I will go back to the Latin sources to better outline the evolutions of these four verbs. The second part will focus on the periphrastic turns in which ser, estar but also essere and stare play a dominating role. Their use with an adverbial and a predicative adjective will be discussed in the third part, while the fourth and final part will be devoted to certain structures presenting a marked syntactic order

Full textThe purpose of my work is to investigate the experiences in school for pupils with Asperger syndrome around the question, what is a good school for them. I´m also interested in what experiences the staff has about this question. I made a qualitative interview study. I have interviewed three pupils with Asperger syndrome, a teacher and a pupil assistant. To give the reader background information I have written about what the researchers say about what it is like to have Asperger syndrome. I have also in the literature information about experiences from people with Asperger syndrome. The interviewed pupils are in senior level and the interviewed staff is their supporting staff. All the pupils in this investigation are included in “their own” class. They can leave the class to get support in a small group, either to get help in a special subject, or because they decide that they want help or peace and quiet. My results show that the interviewed pupils have it rather good at school, except in relations to friends. Both the staff and the pupils say that the relationship to the staff is very important. To get an even better school the pupils want that the teachers in the class listen carefully what pupils say to each other.
Syftet med mitt arbete är att undersöka skolerfarenheter hos elever med Aspergers syndrom kring frågan hur en bra skola ser ut för dem. Jag är också intresserad av uppfattningarna hos personalen. För att nå mitt syfte har jag gjort en kvalitativ intervjuundersökning, där jag har intervjuat tre elever med Aspergers syndrom, en lärare och en elevassistent. För att läsaren ska få en bakgrundsinformation har jag tagit upp vad forskarna säger om hur det är att ha Aspergers syndrom. I litteraturgenomgången finns information om hur personer med Aspergers syndrom själva upplever sitt funktionshinder. Eleverna går på högstadiet och den intervjuade personalen är deras stödpersonal. Alla elever i den här undersökningen är inkluderade i ”sin” klass. De går ifrån till en stödgrupp, antingen för att få hjälp i ett speciellt ämne, som är schemalagt, eller för att de själva bestämmer att nu behöver jag hjälp eller lugn och ro. Mitt resultat visar att de intervjuade eleverna har det ganska bra i sin skola, förutom när det gäller kamratrelationer. Relationen till skolpersonalen är mycket viktig, enligt både elever och personal. För att få en ännu bättre skola vill eleverna att lärarna i klassen ska vara mer vaksamma på vad som sägs mellan eleverna.

Full textThe purpose of this study has been to evaluate how women’s shelter and social work services in men's violence against women in intimate relationship work for the woman and how they understand and explain violence. In order to highlight the problem, we also investigated the working methods of the workplace focusing on men's violence against women in intimate relationship, and efforts and support they have to offer to women who had been victims of violence. This study is based on semi-structured interviews in order to achieve the purpose of the study. The study used the following explanatory models: gender perspective, individual perspective, impotence perspective, social psychological perspective and feminist perspective. The results show that women’s shelter and social services had a similar view of the understanding and explanation of men's violence against women in intimate relationship. The result shows that the operative indicated different explanations of the violence. Based on the reasoning of the informants, we could not see that the explanatory models gave consequences to the support and efforts offered because this was causes by other factors. It was found in the result that social services and a women's shelter were using a Freda-assessment tool in order to identify what the victim of violence has been exposed to, and then try to find suitable measures and efforts to the woman. Based on our results, it was fundamental not to use Freda-assessment and the operatives experience and perceptions of what might be best for the woman who is victim of violence, as it may affect what efforts the woman needs.

Full textThe COVID-19 pandemic poses a global threat to health, economic well-being and political sta- bility. According to researchers, COVID-19 vaccines are a key to ending the pandemic and return- ing to a certain type of normality. The issue is that the COVID-19 vaccines have been unevenly distributed between high- and low-income countries. This study is based on qualitative semi-struc- tured interviews exploring how experts view the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines between high- and low-income countries. More specifically, what factors that they consider to affect the distribution and what measures are needed to make the distribution more equitable. The study connects to the theoretical framework of global justice which is used to clarify why humans have obligations to help each other. The result of the study indicates that the majority of experts con- clude that the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccines has been very uneven because high-income countries have obtained more vaccines than low-income countries. According to experts, an une- ven distribution of the vaccines can lead to several consequences such as the development of mu- tants which the vaccine does not work against, and thus to the pandemic continuing. The main factor pointed out by the experts is that countries have acted nationalistic and that there has been a lot of pressure on political leaders to procure vaccines for their populations. The experts agree that the Covax initiative was a good measure for the vaccines to be distributed more fairly, alt- hough they also highlighted challenges with Covax. This study therefore contributes to the under- standing that there are many factors that affect the global distribution of vaccines against COVID- 19, but also that there are several measures to make the distribution more equitable.

Full textSyftet med denna studie är att bidra med ett ökat medvetande angående elevers upplevelser av ämnet historia och om hur de ser på att öka sitt historiemedvetande genom mötet med gestaltande stoff via film och skönlitteratur. Frågorna jag söker svar på är vilka uppfattningar elever på grundskolans senare år har om ämnet historia, vilka erfarenheter de har om skönlitteratur och film i undervisningen, samt hur de resonerar om att använda skönlitteratur och film som en väg mot ett ökat historiemedvetande. Studien bygger på kvalitativa intervjuer med 15 elever från grundskolans senare år. Intervjuerna bygger på öppna frågor och utgår från sociokulturellt perspektiv samt med en fenomenologisk ansats. Resultatet visar att eleverna upplever att historieämnet främst handlar om faktakunskaper. Flertalet elever, och då särskilt elever med svenska som andraspråk samt elever med språkliga svårigheter, lyfter fram att ämnet är språkmässigt svårt med många ord och begrepp, vilket verkar försvåra vägen mot ett ökat historiemedvetande. Lärarnas roll anses viktig och då främst genom interaktion med eleverna för att förklara och förtydliga men även som den som berättar och levandegör innehållet. Elevernas tankar om skönlitteratur och film som ett medel för att nå ett ökat historiemedvetande är splittrade och även om de flesta kan se fördelen med fiktiva berättelser samt att många önskar mer av den typen av undervisning för att öka intresset och förståelsen, har de svårt att se hur det ska hinnas med.
