Abstract:
The paper presents an approach to the design of technical systems, the elements of which are interconnected and carry out an internal exchange of energy. The above analysis showed that for heat-exchange equipment when combining devices into systems, only iterative methods are currently used, a representative of which is Pinch analysis. A limitation of the iterative approach is the impossibility of obtaining an exact solution to such problems, which can only be achieved by analytical methods, which also make it possible to reveal some effects in systems that are practically unavailable for numerical solution. This indicates the absence of a rigorous proof of the existence of a solution and a problem in the construction of approximate solutions, due to the need to involve complementary hypotheses. The topological representation of the system modules allows us to consider the architecture as a network, which contributes to the analysis of the connections between the constituent elements and the identification of their mutual influence. Highlighted the typical connections of network elements such as serial, parallel, contour, which allows to unify the principles of building connections in the system. As an optimality criterion, the NTU parameter was chosen, which includes the heat exchange surface and is usually used when searching for a solution for heat exchangers of moving objects. An analytical solution to the problem of flow distribution and energy exchange efficiency in a system of two series-connected heat exchangers is obtained. His analysis showed that the formulation of the design problem based on the definition of matrix elements in relation to determinants allows not only to meet the requirements for the system, but also to determine the design parameters of its elements that satisfy their extreme characteristics

Abstract:
A new concept of a dual-chamber serial-parallel piezoelectric pump with an integrated sensor (DSPPIS) is presented in this paper. By means of dividing a piezoelectric bimorph into an actuator and a sensor, sensing function is integrated onto the DSPPIS for flow rate measurement. A prototype of the DSPPIS was manufactured and assembled from a finished piezoelectric bimorph. Then, frequency and voltage characteristics were tested to evaluate the performance of the DSPPIS with serial and parallel connection. Experimental results show that the optimal frequency range of DSPPIS can be achieved and determined by itself through monitoring the sensing voltage when driven by a fixed voltage of 150 Vpp and a frequency range of 40–400 Hz. For a fixed frequency of 100 Hz and a voltage range of 50–250 Vpp, both the sensing voltage and output flow rate increase with the increase of driving voltage. It is observed that there is a positive correlation between sensing voltage and output flow rate, which was further fitted by using linear function. The correlation coefficients for the DSPPIS with serial and parallel connection are calculated as 0.9716 and 0.9054, respectively. As a result, the DSPPIS demonstrated in this paper has realized the measurement of flow rate without the additional flow-sensing equipment both in serial and parallel connection.

Abstract:
We have tried to develop a lithium/thionyl chloride reserve battery (560W). A cell consists of 5 double-sided cathodes and anodes (toroidal shape, electrode area: 100 cm2, cell surface area: 900 cm2, current density: 22mA/cm2). We have designed a unique internal serial connection, which is capable of obtaining a desired voltage by simply stacking the cells and then tightening the internal serial connection volts. A piston-type electrolyte reservoir is designed. Our dual-piston electrolyte reservoir requires smaller space for the piston movement than a single-piston reservoir. It also renders reliable opening of the diaphragm, and appropriate electrolyte transferring speed to avoid damage to the carbon electrodes. The batteries underwent performance tests, environmental tests, and accelerated aging test.

Abstract:
Abstract This paper concerns the problem of designating criteria for assessing the possibility of a collision between the elements of serial manipulators with three rotary joints allowing to flex the segments in common plane oriented by rotating the fourth connection. The issue of contactless and efficient functioning of described group of manipulators has been considered in the spatial system. Equations were derived determining the possibility of a collision between selected segments of both manipulators. Collision detection model isn’t based on the information from the tactile sensors, but only on the relative position between the segments of manipulators. Based on the parameters defining the collision, the search for method of impossible collision was set on designing level, in order to minimize the time needed to examine all possible scenarios of collisions between segments. The results were included in development of methods and algorithms for planning and controlling movements of finger modules in anthropomorphic manipulator during grasping objects of indeterminate shape.

Abstract:
Purpose – This paper aims to propose a system for settlement of obligations of those who, on the one hand, serially owe someone and, on the other hand, are creditors to other persons. Serial Commitments Clearance (SCC) system provides the necessary arrangements for this purpose. Design/methodology/approach – Theoretical discussions of serial chain of debits and credits were conducted by considering the laws and regulations of commitment clearance. Findings – By considering laws and regulations of commitment clearance and introducing theory of serial chain of debits and credits, this system proposes an algorithm for recognition of serial commitments. Research limitations/implications – This process is set in connection to the Collateral Registration System and Mortgage Securitization System in Rastin Banking, while considering the legal and operational problems. Accordingly, banks, notary offices and other authorized authorities can clear serial obligations of persons due to their requests and agreements and release their collaterals and guarantees as far as the debts of the persons are equivalent. Practical implications – This system will cause financial release and efficiency of many economic firms. In addition, banks will gain commission for rendering this service. Social implications – SCC is a model that can be used in all countries, especially those which have more uncertainties and traders need more pledges for their transactions. Originality/value – This study fulfils an identified need to solve practical legal problems in vindication of rights.

AbstractThe development of pulmonary atteriovenous fistulas after bidirectional cavopuomonary operat-tions, such as the bidirectional Glenn shunt and Kawashima's procedure, has raised concern. Development of these fistulas, which are more frequent than initially thought, can represnt a limiting factor in the late outcome of these patients and may even limit the indication for these of surgery. Whether the fistulas can be reversed by transforming the surgical procedures has yet to be established. In the hope of avoiding this kind of complication, thought to be caused by the lack of passage of a hypothetical hepatic factor through the pulmonary circulation. wedevelped an inverred type of gidirectional cavopulmonary connection in which the blood coming from the liver perfuses immediately both lungs. This is made possi-ble by shuntiong via an intra-atrial tunnel the blood from the superior caval vein directly to the left atrium, and the blood from the inferior caval vein to the right branch of the pulmonary trunk (keeping its bifurcation intact). We describe findings in two patients undergoing successful surgery with this technique. Serial follow -up with cohtrast echocardiography did not show evidence of arteriovenous pulmonary fistulas.Despite our numbers being small, and the time of follow-up being limited, we believe that it is importantto document these and similar cases

This focus this paper is the translation of a digital information model that defines an object's surface properties and its connection to that which is real or physical. This research, while early in its investigation, seeks to explore architecture and digital design as a material process. The direct connection to output devices such as computer-numerically controlled routers provide a unique opportunity for controlled variation and serial differentiation and seeks to exploit mass customization rather than standardization. Through a series of studies the process from design to machine file to finish product is explored. This connection to digitally driven fabrication equipment creates within the design process an opportunity to realize ones designs both digitally and materially.

A serial of fire tests have been conducted to study the fire resistance of the post-installed rebar connection with organic adhesive. Research variables include three kinds of anchorage depth. Loads are applied to specimens through lever and remain a constant throughout the whole process of the tests. The temperatures of connections are elevated following the ISO834 curve and the failure is controlled by excessive deflection of bonded-in rebar beams. The test results show that anchorage depth has a great influence on the performance of bonded-in rebar beams exposed to fire. Beams using organic adhesive fail suddenly with obvious rebar slip, and behave with poor fire endurance.

Abstract:
Synchronization of spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) by magnetic dipolar interactions in a parallel electrical connection (PC) introduces the technological possibility for an enhancement of output signal. In this study, we consider two identical or nonidentical STNOs in serial electrical connection (SC). By using a pendulum-like approximation model, we analytically predict the dipolar coupling strength, critical current and frequency of phase-locking precession. The numerical calculations of those analytical expressions are confirmed by macrospin simulations, revealing that the dipolar coupling strength responsible for the phase-locking in SC case is three times larger than that in the PC case for the two STNOs with the same separation, which results in the enlarged and symmetric phase-locking window of frequency versus current. These results suggest that the SC of multiple STNOs could be more promising for the enhancement of output power.

Abstract:
Neurons in several areas of the monkey frontal cortex exhibit rank selectivity, firing differentially as a function of the stage attained during the performance of a serial order task. The activity of these neurons is commonly thought to represent ordinal position within the trial. However, they might also be sensitive to factors correlated with ordinal position including time elapsed during the trial (which is greater for each successive stage) and the degree of anticipation of reward (which probably increases at each successive stage). To compare the influences of these factors, we monitored neuronal activity in the supplementary motor area (SMA), presupplementary motor area (pre-SMA), supplementary eye field (SEF), and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex during the performance of a serial order task (requiring a series of saccades in three specified directions), a variable reward task (in which a cue displayed early in the trial indicated whether the reward received at the end of the trial would be large or small), and a long delay task (in which the monkey had simply to maintain fixation during a period of time approximating the duration of an average trial in the serial order task). We found that rank signals were partially correlated with sensitivity to elapsed time and anticipated reward. The connection to elapsed time was strongest in the pre-SMA. The connection to anticipated reward was most pronounced in the SMA and SEF. However, critically, these factors could not fully explain rank selectivity in any of the areas tested.

Abstract:
The FireFader is a simple haptic force-feedback device that is optimized for introducing musicians to haptics. It is based upon a single-degree-of-freedom potentiometer fader coupled to a DC motor, also known as a “motorized fader.” A light is connected in parallel with the motor to help communicate the force's strength visually. The FireFader consists of only open-source hardware and open-source software elements. Consequently, it is relatively easy for users to repurpose it into new projects involving varying kinds and numbers of motors and sensors. An open-source device driver for the FireFader allows it to be linked to a computer via USB so that the computer can perform the feedback control calculations. For example, the computer can simulate the acoustics of a virtual musical instrument to concurrently synthesize sound and calculate the motor force as a function of the fader position. The serial connection over USB increases the latency of the control signal compared to embedded implementations, but the serial connection facilitates easier programming via the computer, and the force feedback can be automatically disabled when the user is not touching the fader. Some new devices derived from the FireFader design are presented.

Abstract:
The aim of the proposed work is theoretical and experimental studies of the performance of a single-channel hydraulic drive with a series connection of executive hydraulic cylinders and the de-velopment of recommendations for predicting their characteristics. The authors of the paper carried out a set of experimental studies and obtained the numerical kinematic, speed and power characteristics of a single-channel hydraulic drive with five hydraulic cylinders connected in series. It is shown that the nature of the kinematic connection is determined by the differentiation of the hydraulic cylinders. The speed of advancement of the piston of an indi-vidual hydraulic cylinder is determined by its serial number in the chain of hydraulic cylinders, while the highest speed of the piston movement is developed by the first hydraulic cylinder. The relative unevenness of the piston movement in comparison with the speed of the piston movement of the first hydraulic cylinder is determined by the differentiation of the hydraulic cylinder, while the hydraulic drive with the differentiation D = 2 has the greatest unevenness. It is shown that by the selection of the differentiation of the hydraulic cylinders, their stepwise arrangement and the displacement of the location of the bottom of the hydraulic cylinder, that it is possible to realize complex forms of the total trajectory of the points of attachment of the hydraulic cylinder rods. In the hydrostatic (power) hydraulic drive in the rod cavities of the hydraulic cylinders, depend-ing on the serial number of the hydraulic cylinder, the thrust on its rod and the differentiation set different pressure levels, and the lowest pressure will be in the piston cavity of the last hydraulic cylinder. With uniformly loaded hydraulic cylinders, the pressure in the piston cavities depends only on the number of the hydraulic cylinder and its differentiation. In a hydraulic drive with hydraulic cylinders of equal power, the last hydraulic cylinder will develop the greatest force at the lowest piston speed. In addition, the work also shows that the reproducibility of the positions of unloaded rods of hy-draulic cylinders of equal differentiation is not less than 1%. As a result of the experimental studies, a method was developed for the design of a volumetric hydraulic drive with sequential switching on of executive hydraulic cylinders, which can be used to solve the problems of hydrofication of me-chanical engineering production (bending presses, sheet stamping), in shipbuilding (ship slipways), in flexible production systems, industrial and warehouse logistics.

This paper studies structural behaviour of the blind bolted connections to concrete-filled steel tubular columns by a serial of experimental programs, which conducted involving eight sub-assemblages of cruciform beam-to-column joints subjected to monotonic loading and cyclic loading. The moment-rotation hysteretic relationships and failure models of the end plate connections have been measured and analyzed. A simplified analysis model for the blind bolted connections is proposed based on the component method. It is concluded that the blind bolted end plate connection has reasonable strength and stiffness, whilst the rotation capacity of the connection satisfies the ductility requirements for earthquake-resistance in most aseismic regions. This typed joint has excellent seismic performance, so it can be used in the moment-resisting composite frame.

Abstract:
This paper presents a comparison of three surface condenser connection setups on the cooling water side. Serial, mixed and parallel connections were considered. The thermodynamic justification for the use of more complex configurations was verified. The analysis was conducted based on the calculated heat balances of verified power units for nominal and not nominal parameters for tested connections. The exhaust steam pressure was calculated using the technical data of the surface condenser and cooling water parameters. Three methods of calculating the heat transfer coefficient based on characteristic numbers, HEI method, and the ASME standard, were used. The most advantageous model was indicated and used in heat balance calculations. The assumptions and simplifications for the calculations are discussed. Examples of the calculation results are presented.

Abstract:
This paper presents theoretical and experimental studies of the process of electrochemical generation of hydrogen and oxygen with a parallel and serial connection of electrodes in one electrolyte volume. This study is based on the laws of conservation of mass, thermodynamics, electrical engineering, electrochemistry, using data obtained from the methods of mathematical and physical modeling. Data on the development and research of two designs of electrode assemblies, namely, with a parallel and series connection of electrodes, and with the subsequent placement of each assembly in one electrolyte volume. Experimental and calculated data revealed the regularities of the electrochemical reaction of decomposition of the liquid electrolyte into hydrogen and oxygen, the distribution of voltage when the electrodes are connected in parallel and in series in one electrolyte volume. A change in the electric potential between the internal electrodes was also found. Voltage measurement was performed from electrode 1 to electrode 4. The results of experimental studies were displayed graphically. The graphs show that the voltage at the terminals of the internal electrodes is lower than necessary for the electrochemical reaction of decomposition of the liquid electrolyte with the generation of gaseous hydrogen and oxygen. To implement the concept of placing a series (bipolar) connection of electrodes in one electrolyte volume, it is necessary to focus on the design of the electrolyzer that will be able to disconnect the electrodes electrically and provide galvanic isolation between them (separately isolated electrolyte volumes for each electrode pair). This will increase the operating pressure of the generated hydrogen and oxygen to 20.0 MPa, reducing the current load of the electrolysis process when using alternative energy sources.

Abstract:
The term “Transnational Serial Property” generally refers to expansive World Heritage sites, which extend across the territory of two or three UNESCO Convention member states. Transnational serial properties provide various cultural and natural qualities as well as a number of local, regional and national series of nominations in World Heritage. Serial Nominations consist of more components that developed jointly in cultural connections. Each individual element is not only in unique universal value, but also the series as whole have the cultural integrity. However, in today’s world, the speed of globalization creates severe problems on World Heritage areas such that the current trends unfortunately suggest an increasing depreciation through existing cultural heritage. There are numerous potential Transnational Serial World Heritage properties in Turkey, many of existing cultural routes. At this point, by highlighting the need for re-evaluation of traces of the Roman Empire as a Transnational Serial architectural heritage, this paper explains the critical discussion of World Heritage areas which should be evaluated as a Serial Transnational Architectural Heritage. An example of this is the Via Egnatia, a road constructed by the Romans in the 2nd century BC, was the first Roman highway to be built east of the Adriatic. It passes through the Roman provinces of Illyricum, Macedonia, and Thrace, running through territory that is now part of modern Albania, the Republic of Macedonia, Greece, and European Turkey. The research study aims to provide a framework for the Transnational Serial World Heritage properties in general and mainly focuses on traces of the Roman Empire and cultural routes. Within the context of the cultural routes, Via Egnatia and the need for evaluation as a serial hybrid heritage by concerning preservation of historical, archeological and other values will be discussed. Connected to the information gathered, the paper finalized with a summary on Transnational Serial Nomination system and the transformation of the historical road as a cultural and communicational connection from past to present.

Abstract:
In the skeleton-based human action recognition domain, the spatial-temporal graph convolution networks (ST-GCNs) have made great progress recently. However, they use only one fixed temporal convolution kernel, which is not enough to extract the temporal cues comprehensively. Moreover, simply connecting the spatial graph convolution layer (GCL) and the temporal GCL in series is not the optimal solution. To this end, we propose a novel enhanced spatial and extended temporal graph convolutional network (EE-GCN) in this paper. Three convolution kernels with different sizes are chosen to extract the discriminative temporal features from shorter to longer terms. The corresponding GCLs are then concatenated by a powerful yet efficient one-shot aggregation (OSA) + effective squeeze-excitation (eSE) structure. The OSA module aggregates the features from each layer once to the output, and the eSE module explores the interdependency between the channels of the output. Besides, we propose a new connection paradigm to enhance the spatial features, which expand the serial connection to a combination of serial and parallel connections by adding a spatial GCL in parallel with the temporal GCLs. The proposed method is evaluated on three large scale datasets, and the experimental results show that the performance of our method exceeds previous state-of-the-art methods.

Abstract:
Primary element of an oxy-combustion plants is ambient air separation unit. This paper presents the results of experimental research concerning the parameters of the separation of N2/O2 from ambient air, using capillary polymer membranes, potentially applicable in oxy-combustion technology, under variable operational conditions. Collected data were utilized to approximate continuous functions describing the variability of essential parameters of the air separation based on such membranes. The functions were introduced to develop a complete mathematical model of the separation unit, intended to be applied in oxy-Moderate or Intense Low Oxygen Dilution (oxy-MILD) zero-emission plants. Computational analyses were performed for three variants of the unit’s configuration: serial connection of membrane modules, unit with retentate recirculation and unit with permeate recirculation. The results of the research, in the form of sets of characteristic curves, depicting parameters of the separation process as a function of the variable operational conditions, show that crucial differences to the subsequent separation parameters (permeate purity, real selectivity coefficient, recovery coefficient) and with regard to the power consumed, were obtained. The highest parameters of the module were gained for serial connection, whereas the lowest – for permeate recirculation. The lowest energy consumption was acquired for the retentate recirculation variant.

Abstract:
The robust stability of uncertain discrete-time recurrent neural networks with time-varying delay is investigated. By decomposing some connection weight matrices, new Lyapunov-Krasovskii functionals are constructed, and serial new improved stability criteria are derived. These criteria are formulated in the forms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). Compared with some previous results, the new results are less conservative. Three numerical examples are provided to demonstrate the less conservatism and effectiveness of the proposed method.
