Full textIn the last ten years Russian Federation has entered the global market of tv-content production, improving the quality of its products and standing out for the genres and stories told. Studying its contemporary television system, with the peculiarity of its remakes “made in Russia”, helps us understanding its functioning and evolution (past and future), in a global economy perspective. Understanding how and why on national show schedules still circulate products that are a copy of Western original television series (distant from the concept of ‘scripted format’) represents the basis of the analysis of the economic and productive system. These remakes are already present at the beginning of the new Millennium and, even if with slight differences, are still present and broadcast, nevertheless their original version can be found and watched both through DTT television and OTT platforms. From what reason, then, aren’t they redundant? Why Russian audience needs them? Are there any standardized productive paths that simplify their production and organization? These are the questions at the foundation of the study of productive paths that Western television series take once they cross Russian Federation borders, in a mechanism that represents an unprecedented example in the global economic television system.

Full textLas series de televisión españolas y sus personajes viven un momento dulce, con un éxito y un reconocimiento sin precedentes. Este éxito ha ido acompañado de una mejora técnica y nuevos proyectos que han ampliado considerablemente el panorama de la ficción nacional. En los primeros años del siglo XXI se han realizado obras de gran calidad estilística y con una gran variedad de géneros y formatos que hacen del mercado español un objeto de estudio muy interesante. Con la intención de realizar un análisis profundo y objetivo, la primera parte del trabajo se dedica a una investigación teórica donde se hace un recorrido desde las teorías literarias hasta su aplicación a la televisión y se estudia cómo estas teorías sobre los personajes, el tratamiento temporal, el uso del narrador, etc., son válidas para las características propias del relato televisivo o cómo se han adaptado a estas. La segunda parte corresponde al propio análisis de los doce casos escogidos y al contexto productivo del mercado español en relación con la televisión en general y al macrogénero de la ficción en particular. La premisa fundamental de la tesis doctoral que se expone a continuación, y que ha motivado el análisis, es la especial importancia que tienen los personajes y las dinámicas que se forman entre ellos y que dan lugar a las historias. La hipótesis principal del trabajo gira entorno a este hecho basándonos en las necesidades propias de la ficción seriada, que se define por su extensión en el tiempo, sin tener clara una fecha de finalización. A través de doce ficciones de diferentes formatos y géneros se estudia la variedad del mercado español y la importancia de los personajes entre el resto de elementos narrativos y audiovisuales.
Les sèries de televisió espanyoles i els seus personatges viuen un moment dolç, amb un èxit i un reconeixement sense precedents. Este èxit ha anat acompanyat d'una millora tècnica i nous projectes que han ampliat considerablement el panorama de la ficció nacional. En els primers anys del segle XXI s'han realitzat obres de gran qualitat estilística i amb una gran varietat de gèneres i formats que fan del mercat espanyol un objecte d'estudi molt interessant. Amb la intenció de realitzar una anàlisi profunda i objectiu, la primera part del treball es dedica a una investigació teòrica on es fa un recorregut des de les teories literàries fins a la seua aplicació a la televisió i s'estudia com estes teories sobre els personatges, el tractament temporal, l'ús del narrador, etc., són vàlides per a les característiques pròpies del relat televisiu o com s'han adaptat a estes. La segona part correspon a la pròpia anàlisi dels dotze casos triats i al context productiu del mercat espanyol en relació amb la televisió en general i al macrogènere de la ficció en particular. La premissa fonamental de la tesi doctoral que s'exposa a continuació, i que ha motivat l'anàlisi, és l'especial importància que tenen els personatges i les dinàmiques que es formen entre ells i que donen lloc a les històries. La hipòtesi principal del treball gira entorn d'este fet basant-nos en les necessitats pròpies de la ficció seriada, que es definix per la seua extensió en el temps, sense tindre clara una data de finalització. A través de dotze ficcions de diferents formats i gèneres s'estudia la varietat del mercat espanyol i la importància dels personatges entre la resta d'elements narratius i audiovisuals.

Full textThe Doctoral Thesis formulates the analyzes on the political dimension of Colombian drug trafficker Pablo Escobar, which are usually reduced to his experience as a Republic Senator, as a research problem. As a consequence, this interpretation leads to two polarizing views: 1. Escobar as an anti-hero in Colombian history; or 2. An admired hero for his ability to establish drug trafficking as a global business. In this regard, this research aims to analyze Pablo Escobar's political discourse in the series "Narcos" and in journalistic sources. The analysis was carried out with a qualitative methodology of an explanatory-correlational type and using narrative semiotics of political discourse as a method. As research results, it is highlighted that Escobar's political dimension produces an illegal, but legitimate populism - unlike populism manifestations in Europe and Latin America-. The conclusions propose the Narcopopulism category as a conceptual variable intended to explain the founding myth of Colombia, the inability to build a nation from legality, and the interest of journalistic discourse and Netflix to tell a particular story for local and global consumption.

-adaptó la lengua formal del original a una lengua más informal, con más argot (un argot autóctono catalán).
La finalidad de esta adaptación era llegar mejor al público adolescente catalán, y conseguir entre este sector una mejor normalización de la lengua catalana (pues éste es uno de los principios fundamentales de TVC). De manera que la versión catalana no es una simple traducción, sino que se convirtió en un modelo de argot juvenil. La traducción tiene una función didáctica.
El estudio de caso se ha hecho teniendo en cuenta todos los actores que intervinieron en el proceso (el iniciador de la traducción, el traductor, el corrector, y el equipo de doblaje), así como todos los factores del polisistema catalán: la situación de la lengua y la cultura, la normalización lingüística, el papel de la traducción. La información proviene de entrevistas con el director de programación de TVC, la traductora, el lingüista corrector, y la coordinadota del estudio donde se procedió al doblaje. Seguidamente se analiza el producto, la versión doblada al catalán, a partir de los guiones originales y los traducidos. El trabajo termina cerrando el círculo; contrastando el resultado de la traducción con la intención que se asignó, la de funcionar como argot juvenil, y se evalúa si la respuesta ala intención es positiva.

Full textLa presente investigación examina lo ocurrido en el panorama de las producciones televisivas de ficción norteamericanas nacidas en el nuevo siglo a través del análisis en profundidad del estado de la ficción actual y la aplicación de dicho modelo a una serie de ciencia-ficción paradigmática de la época, Battlestar Galactica. Así, intentaremos demostrar que existen nuevas formas de pensar, hacer y consumir el drama, que el criterio de calidad ha quedado diluido en el contexto actual haciendo necesaria una nueva aproximación a éste y que Battlestar Galactica es un producto singular de la época que ha permitido incluir los géneros marginales en los nuevos discursos de calidad, para finalmente poder legitimar la existencia de la Tercera Edad Dorada de la Televisión.
This research examines the changes in the landscape of American fiction television productions born in the new century through the in-depth analysis of the current state of the new drama model and by applying this model to a paradigmatic science-fiction series of the time, Battlestar Galactica. Thus, we will try to demonstrate that there are new ways of thinking, making and consuming the television series, that the quality concept has been diluted by a wide and unifying new approach, and that Battestar Galactica is a unique product of its time that has allowed to bring marginal television genres to the new quality discourses, to finally legitimize the existence of the Third Golden Age of Television.

Full textThe present research investigated the production of meanings about feminine gender and generations on the basis of the discourse of the series 3 Teresas (BossaNovaFilms, GNT, 2013-2014), which deals with the coexistence in the family of three women (grandmother, mother and daughter), who are involved in generational conflicts. Based upon a qualitative approach, it is a case study with an interdisciplinary bias, which relies on the Cultural Studies, Latin-American Studies of Communication and Television Studies and it establishes a dialogue with the fields of Sociology and Anthropology. The research is still founded on the Language Studies since it investigates the discursive construction, utilising the theoretical and methodological tools of the French Discourse Analysis as well as Bakhtin\'s works. Having woman as structural focus of the narrative, the series constitutes itself as a privileged indicator of a moment of social debate on gender questions, which materialises itself by means of discourses the production of meanings of which articulates itself with the female empowerment and with the respect for the plurality of generational identities and of gender. By means of the analysis of the discursivity of the series it was possible to identify thematic axes on which the verbo-visual narrative structures itself: (I) social and family roles; (II) relationships between generations; (III) youth and ageing; (IV) happiness; (V) relationships; (VI) sexuality; (VII) professional life; (VIII) household chores; (IX) house. The analysis of the feminine discourse in the intersection with the generational category identified different productions of meaning related to each age group which significantly tension and deconstruct discourses that had been previously established around the chronological limits of each phase of female life - youth, adulthood, old age - which is depicted in the series. Such states of tension reveal a continuous clash between transformations and permanencies related to women\'s social role that are present in the discourses of the series which, on their turn, refer to a social context of significant changes in the discursive construction of the woman and, consequently, in the configuration of her social role in contemporary Brazilian society.

Full textIn the 19th century, photography was often employed in attempts to objectively capture evidence of paranormal phenomena. With the advent of television, this tradition came to be coupled with the apparent mystery of distant communication through electromagnetic waves. The television set has often been depicted as intrinsically occult or even haunted.
It is therefore natural that television has proven to be an ideal medium to present beliefs, tales, and investigations about paranormal phenomena. Most such presentations have been openly ficticious, but in television the distinction between fact and fiction is often blurred, and the emergence of shows where the crew claims to pursue a serious investigation was inevitable. One of the most successful such shows is the British Most Haunted, airing since 2001. In this thesis, the presentation of occult phenomena in three episodes of Most Haunted is analyzed and discussed in light of this framework of traditions.
One main result is that the distinction between fact and fiction is indeed often blurred in Most Haunted. Reconstructions and purported evidence are similar to each other as well as to the historical ghost pictures, and sometimes the crew's reactions or lack of reactions is the only means to tell them apart. Elements aiming at creating a "ghost feeling" are abundant throughout both investigative and other parts of the show, and include monochrome (and sometimes inverted) imagery, blue or green light tones, modified motion speed, and perspectives that let the spectator "be the ghost". Black and white imagery is also a part of the usage of analogue or pseudo-analogue technology to convey connotations of authenticity. Filming the crew's reactions is the most common means of broadcasting a sense of hauntedness, as is often the case in traditional horror motion pictures.
