Abstract:
Accompanying infrastructure improvements and networking technology innovation, the development of digital home service industry has gotten more and more attention. However, the digital home service levels have not sufficiently met rising demand from users. Therefore, it is urgent to propose and develop new service modes for the digital home. Geographic information services can provide various spatial information services such as map search, spatial information query. It has become an inevitable trend to implement geographic information services in the digital home. This paper proposes three new geographic information services modes for the digital home after sufficient requirement analysis: pushed information service mode, interactive information service mode, personalized information service mode. The key technologies to implement geographic information services on digital televisions are studied, involving digital television middleware technology, network transmission technology and visualization technology. According to the service modes’ characteristics mentioned above, a service system in the digital home is established to implement geographic information services on the basis of digital television. The implementation of geographic information services in the digital home not only enriches the digital home services content, but also promotes geographic information from specialization to public popularity.

Abstract:
This paper proposes an equilibrium model of urban taxi services on network to present the impact of the integrated service modes and the influence of the elastic customer demand distribution on taxi network equilibrium. Based on the cruising service mode, the model can describe how occupied taxis and vacant taxis cruise on network to provide services and search for customers by considering both the expected time cost and ride revenue and the elastic distribution characteristic of customer demand. At the same time, the dispatch service equilibrium problem by researching trip mode choice behavior is also considered. The model can then establish the relationship between customer waiting time and taxi search/waiting time by introducing a taxi-customer meeting function. And moreover, in supply-demand equilibrium, a number of performance measures of the taxis market can be obtained, such as the number of cruising taxis, the number of dispatch taxis and the average customer waiting time.

Abstract:
Purpose This study aims to introduce a new mode of mobile library service, named “WeChat Library”, developed under the WeChat (social media platform) public service platform. The design and realization of WeChat Library is also presented with Chongqing University Library taken as the example. Design/methodology/approach This study designed a new mobile library service system, WeChat Library of Chongqing University Library, analyzed its construction cost and usage statistics and discussed the advantages of the new service mode. Findings Investigation results showed that 84.6 per cent of the “985” universities opened up WeChat Libraries, which signified that WeChat Library has become one of the important mobile service modes for Chinese university libraries. WeChat Library received high appreciation from the patrons; in 20 months of operation, 20.3 per cent of patrons in Chongqing University had used WeChat Library. The five most commonly used services are OPAC retrieval, items borrowed, personal center, resource discovery and announcements. WeChat Library was found to have many advantages, such as low development cost, automatic cross-platform service, adaptive screen, low acceptance cost, easier promotion, strong user viscosity, strong interactivity and real-time consulting. Practical implications The functional design and technological architecture of WeChat Library was presented with Chongqing University Library taken as the example. The technical realization of several unique services, namely, QR code access, space reservation and overdue reminders, was also demonstrated. The study will provide favorable suggestions and references for other libraries that have also launched the WeChat Library. Originality/value The mainstream service mode of mobile libraries is application for mobile terminals (APP). Although mobile services are applied extensively in China, numerous small- and medium-sized libraries are still unable to provide mobile services for patrons primarily because the investment is too high to bear for some libraries. Therefore, mobile library services urgently need a more economical model of mobile services. The most prominent advantages of WeChat Library are its low development cost and low technology threshold. WeChat Library can provide a better solution for mobile library services.

Abstract:
In most developed countries, the population of the elderly and disabled is growing rapidly. These individuals require transportation service suited to their needs. Such service may be provided by applying emerging technologies to dial-a-ride transit. This research develops a methodology to quantitatively evaluate the impact of paratransit services on a traveler’s mode choice behavior. The mode choice model explicitly considers availability of alternative modes and includes latent factors to account for taste heterogeneity. Stated preferences are also used to elicit preferences for new paratransit services. The methodology is empirically tested with data collected in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The model system developed is applied to evaluate the effect of improving service attributes and the impact of the introduction of new cost-effective modes on modal shares. Results of the policy analysis indicate that ( a) transit policy changes, such as fare reduction, would have little effect on automobile driver and automobile passenger shares; ( b) an improved reservation system for dial-a-ride services would produce shifts in mode share; ( c) the proposed new bus deviation service was favored; ( d) free bus service reduces dial-a-ride share; and ( e) an increase in awareness of a dial-a-ride system would significantly increase its share.

Abstract:
Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to identify the factors influencing the choice of entry mode of computer-related (CR) service firms which are in a process of internationalization. The authors will focus on the characteristics of service defining its tradability. Design/methodology/approach – The objectives are achieved by first exploring the general drivers and the drivers specific to service firms via qualitative interviews and a literature review. Then, the model is tested empirically on CR service firms using structural equation modeling using partial least squares. Findings – Results show that the degree of tradability of the service influences the choice of entry mode. The higher the degree of tailor-made offer and face-to-face contact with the client, the more firms opt for an entry mode with high control, such as establishment abroad and/or joint-venture. Finally, firm size and international experience are also significant drivers behind the selection of entry mode. Research limitations/implications – As firms often choose several entry modes simultaneously, it is difficult to lead the research. Practical implications – In exports of digitalized and standardized services with little face-to-face contact, physical presence abroad is less important for success. It is more difficult to successfully market tailor-made services at the international level. Therefore, firms with limited capabilities should start exporting standardized services requiring limited face-to-face contact. Small firms wishing to become global players should preferably focus on exports of digitalized services and use internet, which is an attractive distribution channel. Moreover, when the confidentiality required for the service is an issue for the company, it is better to start with geographically near markets. Originality/value – In this research, service tradability came out as an original concept including service-specific characteristics leading to the selection of entry mode(s). The authors focussed on four characteristics of services which are on-line transmissibility, degree of confidentiality required, face-to-face contact, and finally the degree of customizability.

Abstract:
One of the major contradictions in China’s healthcare service is the serious imbalance between the supply and demand of medical resources and the uneven distribution of medical resources. Although the government intended to provide equal access for all, in the final evaluation, fairness of the distribution of services was usually dictated by location. Measuring and predicting access to social services can help to adjust and better accommodate underserved regions. 3SFCA modes based on the Gaussian function are proposed to delineate the service area of providers delivering social services and produce a probability metric that maps the equity of the medical services in multiple traffic modes. We identified the types of medical shortage areas and analyzed the distribution characteristics of medical accessibility in Guangzhou. The results showed that the accessibility of medical facilities in the multiple traffic modes varied greatly. The accessibility level of medical service resources was the highest in the driving mode, followed by the public traffic mode and bike-riding mode. The walking mode had the lowest accessibility. Finally, the paper provided advice for further improvement of the equal distribution of medical service resources in Guangzhou.

Abstract:
The last mile delivery service is an important part in the logistics service process of express enterprises. How to select a suitable logistics service mode for last mile delivery to maximize the delivery service capacity and minimize delivery service cost is a noteworthy problem, but studies on this problem are still lacking. In this paper, we first analyze three potential logistics service modes for last mile delivery, i.e., self-run mode, outsourcing mode, and alliance mode, and then propose a selection framework of logistics service mode for last mile delivery based on a two-dimensional matrix decision model according to the two dimensions of delivery service cost advantage and delivery service capability advantage. Next, we give the calculation formulas for the delivery service cost and delivery service capability. Furthermore, we propose a method for logistics service mode selection for last mile delivery according to delivery service costs and delivery service capabilities of three potential logistics service mode. Finally, we show the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed method by a case analysis.

Abstract:
Cloud computing is a new computing paradigm in which information and computing services can be accessed from a Web browser by clients. Understanding of the characteristics of computer service performance has become critical for service applications in cloud computing. For the commercial success of this new computing paradigm, the ability to deliver guaranteed Quality of Services (QoS) is crucial. Based on the Service level agreement, the requests are processed in the cloud centers in different modes. This paper analyzes a finite-buffer multi-server queuing system where client requests have two arrival modes. It is assumed that each arrival mode is serviced by one or more Virtual machines, and both the modes have equal probabilities of receiving service. Various performance measures are obtained and optimal cost policy is presented with numerical results. The genetic algorithm is employed to search the optimal values of various parameters for the system.

Abstract:
The Internet today mostly offers a simple best-effort mode of service. The capabilities of the Internet will be significantly enhanced if it supports better QoS modes, especially when QoS is provided for end-to-end services. This enhancement requires both technological development and economic mechanisms to support better QoS service modes. In this article, we study a Multi-ISP Overlay Provider's (MOP's) pricing problem for delivering end-to-end services with expected bandwidth assurance. A categorization based pricing scheme is developed, where end-to-end bandwidth services are classified based on the provider's efforts in delivering the services. A nonlinear pricing based model is constructed that interacts with network management infrastructure, responds to customer demand and captures the MOP's contractual relationships with Internet Service Provider (ISP) networks used for creating the MOP's services.

Logistics distribution plays an important role in the operation of e-commerce firms. This paper considers two logistics distribution modes with service competition: the e-commerce platform self-distribution (SDL) mode and third-party logistics (TPL) mode. By introducing consumer behavior into the model, we examine the competition between two firms with the same functionalities in the context of e-commerce. According to the real scene, we build the corresponding mathematical optimization model. Each firm needs to decide a logistics distribution mode and a corresponding price for the selected logistics mode. We first analyze the two firms chosen logistics modes and prices simultaneously and then extend it to Stackelberg game situation. We find out the optimal strategy for two firms. Finally, we propose numerical analysis to identify our models and provide a series of managerial insights.

The purpose of this paper is to explore potential differences in consumers’ reactions to service failures across services provided by a service employee (i.e. full-services) and services that require customers’ active involvement (i.e. self-services).Design/methodology/approachTwo 2 (full-service vs self-service) × 2 (no service failure vs service failure) scenario-based experiments in technological and non-technological contexts (i.e. ticket purchase and furniture assembly) were conducted.FindingsStudy results reveal that although service failures have a similar negative impact on satisfaction across both full-services and self-services, in the self-service context, the negative effect on the willingness to use the same service delivery mode again is attenuated.Research limitations/implicationsBy emphasizing the role of customers’ active involvement in the service delivery process, the study extends previous knowledge regarding customer response to service failures in different service settings.Practical implicationsBy highlighting that self-service customers’ future behavioral intentions are less severely affected by service failures, the authors present an additional feature of customer involvement in service delivery processes that goes beyond the previously recognized advantages.Originality/valueDespite the abundance of research on the effects of failure attributions, previous studies have predominantly examined main effects of attributions on customer responses, such that insights into potential moderating effects of failure attributions on established relationships – as investigated in this study – are still scarce.

Abstract:
The article considers the influence of demand disturbance on price, service capability, and operation mode selection of firms. Firstly, we discuss the equilibrium pricing and service capability strategy of the firm under three operation modes: price and service competition, price competition and service capability sharing, and price and service centralized making-decision. When there is demand disruption, firms determine their pricing and service capacity strategies under the three main operating models above. Finally, the comparative analysis shows that the influence of service capability in centralized decision price and service capability mode is greater than that on service capability in price competition and service capability sharing mode. The smoothness of service capability in price competition and service capability sharing mode is better than that in the centralized decision mode. And when the market price competition coefficient is moderate or the negative demand disturbance occurs, the price competition and service capability sharing mode has little influence on the profit compared with the other two modes (the profit loss is the smallest).

Abstract:
Consider an M/G/1 type queueing system with two service modes: regular speed and high speed. The service rule is characterized by two switch-over levels nR and nH, where nR and nH are given integers with 0 ≤ nH < nR. The server switches from regular speed mode to high speed mode when the number of customers present at a service completion epoch is equal to or larger than nR and switches from high speed mode to regular speed mode when the number of customers present decreases to nH. A key feature of the model is that the server takes a vacation for setup operations before a new service mode is available. This paper derives for the general model an expression for the generating function of the equilibrium queue-length distribution in terms of the switch-over levels. Two unknown parameters appear in the generating functions. Using a recursive method, we solve these unknown parameters and obtain a computationally tractable algorithm for the steady-state probabilities.

Abstract:
An analytical framework on One Door Service in this article derived from new public management that takes a coordinated, holistic approach to public service delivery. These service delivery approaches have become a famous and adaptable mode of administrative decentralization of government services in Laos, and gives strategic focus on governance and public administration reform for better service delivery. This article reviews these rationales in the conceptual introduction of One Door Service initiatives in Laos. The ODS has been justified mainly on managerial and governance grounds and viewed by government as a partial successful governance and public administration reform of early stage. The change of it is placed in public service improvement, using the collaborative customer interface model through the four sets of critical assessment challenge on governance, performance management, workforce and information sharing. The analysis assesses the performance by looking at the empirical results and draws on experiences on how One Door Service has been operating and providing services to citizens at the ground. With this knowledge of linkages with the concept of public service improvement in Laos, we can pose the question of whether the One Door Service project has achieved the aims of governance and public administration reform and benefited the majority of citizens. The overall image presented a positive and negative- a positive image is an innovative mode of service delivery which has expanded across the country in terms of establishing, but a negative image is an inadequate step for administrative reform during the design and implementation.

Abstract:
With the rapid development of mobility services, e-hailing service have been highly prevalent and e-hailing travel has become a part of daily life in many cities in China. At the same time, travelers’ mode choice behaviors have been influenced to some degree by different factors, and in this paper, a web-based retrospective survey initially conducted in Shanghai, China is used to analyze the extent to which various factors are influencing mode choice behaviors. Then, a multinomial-logit-based mode choice model is developed to incorporate the e-hailing auto mode as a new travel mode for non-work trips. The developed model can help to identify influential factors and quantify their impact on mode choice probabilities. The developed model involves a variety of explanatory variables including e-hailing/taxi fare, bus travel time, rail station access/egress distance, trip distance, car in-vehicle travel time as well as travelers’ socioeconomic and demographic characteristics, etc. The model indicates that the e-hailing fare, travel companions and some travelers’ characteristics (e.g., age, income, etc.) are significant factors influencing the choice of e-hailing mode. The alternative-specific constant in the e-hailing utility equation is adjusted to match the observed market share of the e-hailing mode. Based on the developed model, elasticities of LOS attributes are computed and discussed. The research methods used in this paper have the potential to be applied to investigate travel behavior changes under the influence of emerging travel modes. The research findings can aid in evaluating policies to manage e-hailing services and improve their levels of services.

The cultural differences between China and foreign countries have made schools show great differences in the cultivation of students’ learning methods. In China, flooding teaching is common, which has achieved a large amount of knowledge output, but it has not been able to guarantee the effect of knowledge instillation. In American colleges and universities, it is more open education, combining conscious education and learning with task-based education to meet the real needs of people in society, while service learning comes from traditional teaching methods, such as experiential learning. It became popular at the end of the 9th century and the beginning of the 20th century. Nevertheless, the combination of service learning and school curricula is still a fairly new concept, which only began to appear in the 1870s. At present, China is also introducing advanced foreign teaching methods to improve some of the domestic teaching drawbacks.

Abstract:
Incidence of medication errors, nosocomial infections, falling patients, pressure sores (pressure sores) is often found in hospitals. This incident can be prevented by identifying the risk and finding the root of the problem using Failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA). This study aims to describe the effectiveness of the FMEA method on the quality of hospital services using a systematic review method. This research starts from searching for data using five databases with the keywords "FMEA or Risk Management or HFMEA" and "service quality" and "hospital" then doing screenings and feasibility assessments of 17 articles. The results of this study were seventeen articles describing the FMEA method in several hospital service processes where the evaluation results of the FMEA method could improve service quality. Therefore the FMEA method is effectively applied to the service process starting from identifying the risk of failure in service, implementing preventive measures to improve the quality of hospital services in the form of security dimensions, effectiveness, and efficiency. So this study recommends the use of the FMEA method in identifying the risk of failure to improve service quality.

Abstract:
Customization degree is a very important field of mass customization. Its improvement could enhance customer satisfaction and further increase customer demand while correspondingly it will increase service price and decrease customer satisfaction and demand. Therefore this paper discusses how to deal with such issues in logistics service supply chain (LSSC) with a logistics service integrator (LSI) and a customer. With the establishment of customer demand function for logistics services and profit functions of the LSI and the customer, three different decision modes are proposed (i.e., customization degree dominated by LSI, customization degree dominated by customer, and customization degree decided by concentrated supply chain); many interesting findings are achieved. Firstly, to achieve customization cooperation between LSI and customer, measures should be taken to make the unit increase cost of the customized logistics services lower than a certain value. Secondly, there are differences between the optimal customization degree dominated by LSI and that dominated by customer. And in both cases, the dominator could realize more profit than the follower. Thirdly, with the profit secondary distribution strategy, the modified decentralized decision mode could accomplish the maximum profit achieved in centralized decision mode and meanwhile get the optimal customization degree.

This paper describes a cloud-scale encryption system. It discusses the constraints that shaped the design of Amazon Web Services’ Key Management Service, and in particular, the challenges that arise from using a standard mode of operation such as AES-GCM while safely supporting huge amounts of encrypted data that is (simultaneously) generated and consumed by a huge number of users employing different keys. We describe a new derived-key mode that is designed for this multi-user-multi-key scenario typical at the cloud scale. Analyzing the resulting security bounds of this model illustrates its applicability for our setting. This mode is already deployed as the default mode of operation for the AWS key management service.

Abstract:
Purpose The purpose of this paper is to develop a conceptual model of carnivalization. The paper aims to widen the understanding of client initiated attempts to break away from a conflict of motives between conventional models and new ways of acting in service provision. Carnivalization emerges when the standard script falls apart and the actors start to construct unexpected meanings for the activity and create innovative solutions for the conflict of motives, which leads to new mode of collaboration. Design/methodology/approach The study analyzed the key features and significance of carnivalization in home care service encounters. The theoretical–methodological framework of the study draws on Bakhtin’s dialogical theorizing and cultural–historical activity theory. The analysis traces the processual movement from standard script toward carnivalization. Findings The key features of carnivalization involve conflict of motives between the actors, client initiatives, multiple chronotopes, artifact and role mediation, different modes of collaboration and the intertwinement of seemingly disconnected objects of collaboration. The findings indicate that carnivalization can enhance a new type of client–service provider collaboration. It can become an especially significant mode of collaboration for transforming an activity in which a historically established, stabilized script dominates the interaction. This paper suggests that the carnivalization type of collaboration should be deliberately fostered via organizational interventions to develop client-centered services. Originality/value As a consequence of the study, a new conceptual model is proposed for the analysis and promotion of carnivalization that can be applied in different organizational contexts.

Abstract:
Aiming at the problems in the social governance structure level under the management mode of the Internet of Things, this paper designs a network agent based on the idea of service grid construction that has the functions of service resource configuration discovery, load balancing, and protocol conversion. Using it as a service governance infrastructure reduces the coupling between business services and service governance, and the network agent will intercept the service call traffic within the platform to achieve cross-protocol and cross-frame service communication. Through the proposed global query decomposition strategy and algorithm, a global query mapping is realized, which solves the problem of global query decomposition based on the global data model. We designed the unified management mechanism of two commonly used IoT databases based on XML. This process involves the realization of heterogeneous Internet of Things database resource configuration, data mode conversion, and global query mapping. Among them, in the process of data schema conversion, the conflict of the data in the schema mapping is resolved, the XML Schema is generated, the schema mapping metadata is established, and the XML document of the data is generated. We build a framework for optimal allocation of cloud computing resources based on load forecasting and propose an adaptive elastic control system for resource allocation based on resource status monitoring and demand forecasting. In view of the low resource utilization problem caused by the resource management mode of single virtual machine serving single user adopted by Internet of Things service providers, this paper constructs a new public cloud architecture with a five-layer structure. On the basis of this architecture, an adaptive configuration mode of virtualized resources based on a single virtual machine serving multiple users is proposed. This mode can automatically search for optimal virtualization resources for application resource requests made by different users and run different applications on the same virtual machine without affecting the quality of service, so that IoT providers can guarantee services. At the same time, it improves the utilization efficiency of IoT resources and reduces energy consumption.
