Purpose This paper presents approaches to determine a network-based pricing for 3D printing services in the context of a two-sided manufacturing-as-a-service marketplace. The purpose of this study is to provide cost analytics to enable service bureaus to better compete in the market by moving away from setting ad hoc and subjective prices. Design/methodology/approach A data mining approach with machine learning methods is used to estimate a price range based on the profile characteristics of 3D printing service suppliers. The inclusion of a durable goods sector in sticky-price models has strong and unexpected implications. Even if most prices are flexible, a small durable goods sector with sticky prices may be sufficient to make aggregate output react to monetary policy as though most prices were sticky. In contrast, flexibly priced durables with sufficiently long service lives can undo the implications of standard sticky price models. In a limiting case, flexibly priced durables cause monetary policy to have no effect on aggregate output. Our analysis suggests that durable goods prices are the most relevant da

We also show that if manufacturers can commit to industry-wide resale prices, they can obtain higher prices and service levels but will generally not be able to achieve the fully integrated outcome. However, the reverse was true when the service component of price was above 15%. Furthermore, a move from percentage service gratuity toward dollar service gratuity impeded participants’ menu price judgment. Abstract:
Price dispersion is a prevalent feature even of markets where, arguably, homogeneous good are traded. At the heart of the causes of price dispersion lie the firms' strategic interactions with their customers and rivals. Consumers' eagerness and ability to search for lower prices tends to reduce dispersion because it enhances competition. Firms inability to sustain tacit collusion, on the other hand, increases price dispersion. Wholesale costs shock can impact both. We use data on retail gasoline markets from Colombia to assess whether changes in price dispersion following wholesale cost shocks

Niesten, Hannelore. Taxation Policies, Processes, and Performances of Mobile Money Providers in Côte d’Ivoire. Institute of Development Studies, 2024. http://dx.doi.org/10.19088/ictd.2024.030.

Abstract:
This policy brief examines the effects of cumulative, specific 7.2 per cent taxes on mobile money (MM) service providers in Côte d’Ivoire. It assesses the unique tax framework, which deviates from the consumer-centric trend observed in many African countries, where end-users typically bear the burden. Initially targeting telecom companies, the tax expanded to encompass MM providers created by licensed telecom operators (Orange Money, MTN Money, and Moov Money) and, later, all companies providing MM operations. Concerns over potential investment declines persist, yet concrete evidence is absent

Food security is estimated to improve in 2023 in the 83 low- and middle-income countries examined by USDA's Economic Research Service in the International Food Security Assessment. Due to growth in per capita income and the easing of international and domestic food commodity prices, 228.9 million fewer people will face food insecurity relative to 2022. However, estimated food insecurity remains elevated due to the lingering effects of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, high food commodity prices, and risks associated with the ongoing Russian military invasion of Ukraine.
