The hardness of the inner pipe surface is especially critical, since sulphide stress cracking (SSC) may initiate at hardened surfaces. In recent years, high profile failures in sour environments were attributed to the presence of identified hard zones on TMCP pipe inner surfaces, and located far from welds. To help define the SSC limits of such material it is critical to know how these areas form. Based on these considerations, the European Pipeline Research Group has launched at the e

Abstract Several operators in the Oil&Gas industry have good experience with the use of glass flake reinforced polyester (GFP) coatings, however, limited information of documented long-term performance can be found in the open literature. During decommissioning of an aged Oil&Gas installation, a visual inspection was carried out at a decommissioning yard and a brace cut out from the splash zone of the jacket structure was examined in laboratory. The examination has included visual inspection, inspection in microscope, adhesion testing and EIS measurements. The durability and service li

Abstract:
During the qualification of procedures for welding onto in-service pipelines, for the purpose of installing repair sleeves or hot tap branch connections, heat-affected zone (HAZ) hardness is often used as an indicator of cracking susceptibility. The objective of this project was to further develop and validate hardness evaluation criteria that can be used to quantify the trade-offs that can be made between HAZ hardness, hydrogen level, and chemical composition for welds made onto in-service pipelines. The initial work involved evaluating a previously-developed HAZ hardness evaluation criterio

Abstract:
The objective of this program has been to determine the significance of low toughness regions on the service performance of heat-affected zones in heavy wall pipe materials. The low temperature HAZ toughness of welds in microalloyed and quenched and tempered materials at two heat inputs was established, a test technique to produce fatigue cracks in the HAZ was developed, and four full scale fracture tests were completed at -49F.

Public transit ridership in California declined in the five years before the pandemic of 2020–21 and dropped significantly further after the pandemic began. A sharp downward step in the level of transit boarding occurred after February 2020, and continues to the date of this report as a result of the public-health guidance on social distancing, expanded work-at-home, and a travel mode shift from public transit to private cars. A critical issue has come to the foreground of public transportation policy, namely, how to increase the quality and geographic reach of transit service to better serve

The inspection of welds made onto in-service pipelines, which are made primarily for attaching branch connections and repair sleeves, has been the subject of much concern in recent years. The difficulties associated with the inspection of these welds have long been recognized and, historically, the amount of inspection given to such welds has been small. The inspection of welds joining various appurtenances to pipelines is hampered for a number of reasons. The joint geometries can vary considerably, but none of them are particularly suited to detailed inspection. Surface techniques, such as ma

This program studied the effects of girth welding on the mechanical properties of four quenched and tempered pipeline materials. The study revealed the presence of low-toughness regions in the heat-affected zone of shielded metal arc welds in heavy-wall pipe and fitting materials rated for above-ground service. High-strength, microalloyed steels produced by other processes are also known to be susceptible to similar localized toughness degradation. Because the significance of these regions, with regards to service performance, is not fully understood, further research involving full-scale frac

In-service welding is a common industrial practice for both maintenance and repair purpose. Its applications include, but not limited to repair of pipeline damages caused by construction or corrosion, and hot tap welding used to add branch connections to existing pipelines. In-service welding enables maintaining and repairing pipelines without removing them from service. Such welding operations generate significant economic and environmental benefits, for example, no interruption of pipeline operations and no venting of pipeline contents. As the climate changes over the 21st century, the Puget Sound region's urban forest will be impacted by changing temperatures and precipitation regimes, leading to implications for the people who depend on its ecosystem services. This report summarizes climate change projections for the Puget Sound region and provides an assessment of tree species vulnerability in the region. We used projected shifts in plant hardiness and heat zones to understand how tree species of interest are projected to tolerate future conditions. We also assessed the adaptability of planted trees to stressors such as dr
