Abstract:
This article introduces a n-gram-based approach to automatic classification of Web services using a multilayer perceptron-type artificial neural network. Web services contain information that is useful for achieving a classification based on its functionality. The approach relies on word n-grams extracted from the web service description to determine its membership in a category. The experimentation carried out shows promising results, achieving a classification with a measure F=0.995 using unigrams (2-grams) of words (characteristics composed of a lexical unit) and a TF-IDF weight.

Abstract:
This is a report of research on the application of service classifications in studying productivity management aspects and issues in the service industries. After identifying certain gaps in the literature, a new empirical approach has been introduced. Through a review of literature, the complexity of research on service productivity and its relationship with quality was observed and confirmed. It was found that productivity management is an appropriate context for studying and illustrating the new approach to service classification. Twelve service sectors were selected to cover the range of different types of service clusters. The research methodology was heavily built on an inductive approach based on in-depth interviews, although a significant part of the research was carried out using quantitative analysis. Quantitative analysis was done to find the most appropriate service dimensions that could be used as bases for service classifications for productivity management studies. Among the studied service dimensions, as proposed by the literature, it was found that the dimension of Front/back value added, initially proposed by David Maister, was the most appropriate one to be used as the basis for service classification schemes for productivity management purposes. Through qualitative analysis of data a number of key factors in terms of service productivity management and their features were found. A service classification scheme was proposed, with no regard to service dimensions. The features of 'productivity friendly' services were studied. The factors that can reduce the need for trade off between productivity and quality were explored. The contribution of this research can be summarised in two areas. A new approach to service classification has been proposed, that is derived from empirical study. A number of services are compared in terms of productivity management aspects, resulting in development of a number of models, to illustrate the general trend of services in the area of productivity management, including interactions with quality management.

Web services are building blocks for modular applications independent of any software or hardware platforms. They implement the service oriented architecture (SOA). Research on Web services mainly focuses on discovery and composition. However, complexity of the Web services space structure and its development must necessarily be taken into account. This cannot be done without using the complex systems science, including the theory of complex networks. In this thesis, we define a set of networks based on Web services composition when Web services are syntactically (WSDL) and semantically (SAWSDL) described. The experimental exploration of these networks can reveal characteristic properties of complex networks (small world property and scale-free distribution). It also shows that these networks have a community structure. This result provides an alternative answer to the problem of Web services classification by domain of interest. Indeed, communities don’t gather Web services with similar functionalities, but Web services that share many interaction relationships. This organization can be used among others, to guide compositions search algorithms. Furthermore, with respect to the classification based on Web services functional similarity for discovery or substitution, we propose a set of network models for syntactic and semantic representations of Web services, reflecting various similarity degrees. The topological analysis of these networks reveals a component structure and internal organization of thecomponents around elementary patterns. This property allows a two-level characterization of the notion of community of similar Web services that highlight the flexibility of this new organizational model. This work opens new perspectives in the issues of service-oriented architecture

Abstract:
Services Science is a new research discipline that has received, over the last years, a growing attention from academia and practice. It combines research from various fields which have evolved more or less independently and is concerned with the development and management of service products. Whereas theories from organizational and marketing science usually capture the nature of these products, engineering disciplines focus on shaping and developing these information goods, and the information systems field on integrating services as encapsulated application functionalities by using standardized (XML) interfaces. All these research streams converge in the new interdisciplinary area of Services Science which integrates the principles, design, and management of economic and technical services. For the fourth time, the \\\\\\\'International Symposium on Services Science (ISSS)\\\\\\\' offered an outstanding platform for the advancement and discussion of research in Service Science. In 2012, the ISSS focused on knowledge-intensive business services, also known as Smart Services, and their application in theory and practice. The ISSS was part of the Multi-Conference SABRE (Software, Agents and Services for Business, Research and E-Sciences, 24th-25th September 2012) and was held in Leipzig, Germany as a one-day event on the 25th September, 2012. The symposium was organized by the Information Systems Institute and the Department of Computer Science at the University of Leipzig as well as the Institute for Applied Informatics (InfAI), Fraunhofer MOEZ and the Leipziger Informatik-Verbund (LIV). As reflected in the conference proceedings, the sessions included in the agenda dealt with Smart Services from different perspectives: Smart Services in Theory and Practice, Smart Services in Management and Application, and Smart Services in High-Tech-Sectors. Although the official language of the conference is English, the authors had the opportunity to write their research contributions in English or German.

Abstract:
The works on web services management use generally the techniques of information retrieval, data mining and the linguistic analysis. Alternately, we attend the emergence of the probabilistic topic models originally developed and utilized for topics extraction and documents modeling. The contribution of this thesis meets the topics modeling and the web services management. The principal objective of this thesis is to study and propose probabilistic algorithms to model the thematic structure of web services. First, we consider an unsupervised approach to meet different tasks such as web services clustering and discovery. Then we combine the topics modeling with the formal concept analysis to propose a novel method for web services hierarchical clustering. This method allows a novel interactive discovery approach based on the specialization and generalization operators of retrieved results. Finally, we propose a semi-supervised method for automatic web service annotation (automatic tagging). We concretized our proposals by developing an on-line web services search engine called WS-Portal where we incorporate our research works to facilitate web service discovery task. Our WS-Portal contains 7063 providers, 115 sub-classes of category and 22236 web services crawled from the Internet. In WS- Portal, several technologies, i.e., web services clustering, tags recommendation, services rating and monitoring are employed to improve the effectiveness of web services discovery. We also integrate various parameters such as availability and reputation of web services and more generally the quality of service to improve their ranking and therefore the relevance of the search result

Lestage, Catherine.

Abstract:

Adi, Erwin. "Denial-of-service attack modelling and detection for HTTP/2 services." Thesis, Edith Cowan University, Research Online, Perth, Western Australia, 2017. https://ro.ecu.edu.au/theses/1953.

Full text
Abstract:
Businesses and society alike have been heavily dependent on Internet-based services, albeit with experiences of constant and annoying disruptions caused by the adversary class. A malicious attack that can prevent establishment of Internet connections to web servers, initiated from legitimate client machines, is termed as a Denial of Service (DoS) attack; volume and intensity of which is rapidly growing thanks to the readily available attack tools and the ever-increasing network bandwidths. A majority of contemporary web servers are built on the HTTP/1.1 communication protocol. As a consequence, all literature found on DoS attack modelling and appertaining detection techniques, addresses only HTTP/1.x network traffic. This thesis presents a model of DoS attack traffic against servers employing the new communication protocol, namely HTTP/2. The HTTP/2 protocol significantly differs from its predecessor and introduces new messaging formats and data exchange mechanisms. This creates an urgent need to understand how malicious attacks including Denial of Service, can be launched against HTTP/2 services. Moreover, the ability of attackers to vary the network traffic models to stealthy affects web services, thereby requires extensive research and modelling. This research work not only provides a novel model for DoS attacks against HTTP/2 services, but also provides a model of stealthy variants of such attacks, that can disrupt routine web services. Specifically, HTTP/2 traffic patterns that consume computing resources of a server, such as CPU utilisation and memory consumption, were thoroughly explored and examined. The study presents four HTTP/2 attack models. The first being a flooding-based attack model, the second being a distributed model, the third and fourth are variant DoS attack models. The attack traffic analysis conducted in this study employed four machine learning techniques, namely Naïve Bayes, Decision Tree, JRip and Support Vector Machines. The HTTP/2 normal traffic model portrays online activities of human users. The model thus formulated was employed to also generate flash-crowd traffic, i.e. a large volume of normal traffic that incapacitates a web server, similar in fashion to a DoS attack, albeit with non-malicious intent. Flash-crowd traffic generated based on the defined model was used to populate the dataset of legitimate network traffic, to fuzz the machine learning-based attack detection process. The two variants of DoS attack traffic differed in terms of the traffic intensities and the inter-packet arrival delays introduced to better analyse the type and quality of DoS attacks that can be launched against HTTP/2 services. A detailed analysis of HTTP/2 features is also presented to rank relevant network traffic features for all four traffic models presented. These features were ranked based on legitimate as well as attack traffic observations conducted in this study. The study shows that machine learning-based analysis yields better classification performance, i.e. lower percentage of incorrectly classified instances, when the proposed HTTP/2 features are employed compared to when HTTP/1.1 features alone are used. The study shows how HTTP/2 DoS attack can be modelled, and how future work can extend the proposed model to create variant attack traffic models that can bypass intrusion-detection systems. Likewise, as the Internet traffic and the heterogeneity of Internet-connected devices are projected to increase significantly, legitimate traffic can yield varying traffic patterns, demanding further analysis. The significance of having current legitimate traffic datasets, together with the scope to extend the DoS attack models presented herewith, suggest that research in the DoS attack analysis and detection area will benefit from the work presented in this thesis.

In the field of user studies, very little research has been done on rendering of services in academic libraries. These services need to be examined in depth in order to be able to provide academic library users with more appropriate information services. There is clearly a need to determine what the real needs of academic library users are and how they prefer to look for information. The rapid growth of information technology could have a great influence on service rendering to academic library users.

Abstract:
The newspaper collections at the National Library of South Africa include press clippings collections of the period 1919 to 1996, when clippings were replaced by electronic full-text searching. These clippings collections are a record of information extracted from the Cape Times and Cape Argus and, more selectively, from other contemporary newspapers such as Die Burger. The collection includes biographies, court proceedings and sports reports, and comprises about 100 000 files. Other personal clippings collections have been added to the main collection, notably those of Miss K M Jeffreys (1900-1970) and A A Fullalove (1875-1960). Other clipping collections in South Africa were compiled by INEG (University of the Free State), which is now continued by SABINET in digital form. The purpose of the paper is to research the role of clipping services as monitors of social and political change in South Africa in the 20th century.

Abstract:
In contrast to as in other jurisdictions, such as the United States or the UK, out-of-court legal services in Germany are strictly regulated by a statute, the Legal Services Act, which came into force nearly a decade ago and superseded the former Legal Counsel Act (Rechtsberatungsgesetz). According to this act, out-of-court legal services must be expressly permitted and are, in principle, reserved to lawyers. Consequently, there are certain legal restrictions for tech providers offering legal services in Germany that must be observed. The following article deals with the scope and limits for offering legal services by legal tech providers in Germany according to the German Legal Services Act. The author explains why some legal tech business solutions offering legal services may be in conflict with this act, which is a significant issue of compliance for both legal tech start-ups and their investors. Entrepreneurs, stakeholders of legal tech start-ups and capital investors should weigh the economic opportunities and legal risks carefully before placing a legal tech start-up on the German market.

Abstract:
Event-related collections, including both tweets and webpages, have valuable information, and are worth exploring in interdisciplinary research and education. Unfortunately, such data is noisy, so this variety of information has not been adequately exploited. Further, for better understanding, more knowledge hidden behind events needs to be unearthed. Regarding these collections, different societies may have different requirements in particular scenarios. Some may need relatively clean datasets for data exploration and data mining. Social researchers require preprocessing of information, so they can conduct analyses. General societies are interested in the overall descriptions of events. However, few systems, tools, or methods exist to support the flexible use of event-related collections. In this research, we propose a new, integrated system to process and analyze event-related collections at different levels (i.e., data, information, and knowledge). It also provides various services and covers the most important stages in a system pipeline, including collection development, curation, analysis, integration, and visualization. Firstly, we propose a query likelihood model with pre-query design and post-query expansion to rank a webpage corpus by query generation probability, and retrieve relevant webpages from event-related tweet collections. We further preserve webpage data into WARC files and enrich original tweets with webpages in JSON format. As an application of data management, we conduct an empirical study of the embedded URLs in tweets based on collection development and data curation techniques. Secondly, we develop TwiRole, an integrated model for 3-way user classification on Twitter, which detects brand-related, female-related, and male-related tweeters through multiple features with both machine learning (i.e., random forest classifier) and deep learning (i.e., an 18-layer ResNet) techniques. As guidance to user-centered social research at the information level, we combine TwiRole with a pre-trained recurrent neural network-based emotion detection model, and carry out tweeting pattern analyses on disaster-related collections. Finally, we propose a tweet-guided multi-document summarization (TMDS) model, which generates summaries of the event-related collections by using tweets associated with those events. The TMDS model also considers three aspects of named entities (i.e., importance, relatedness, and diversity) as well as topics, to score sentences in webpages, and then rank selected relevant sentences in proper order for summarization. The entire system is realized using many technologies, such as collection development, natural language processing, machine learning, and deep learning. For each part, comprehensive evaluations are carried out, that confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed approaches. Regarding broader impact, the outcomes proposed in our study can be easily adopted or extended for further event analyses and service development.
Doctor of Philosophy
Event-related collections, including both tweets and webpages, have valuable information. They are worth exploring in interdisciplinary research and education. Unfortunately, such data is noisy. Many tweets and webpages are not relevant to the events. This leads to difficulties during data analysis of the datasets, as well as explanation of the results. Further, for better understanding, more knowledge hidden behind events needs to be unearthed. Regarding these collections, different groups of people may have different requirements. Some may need relatively clean datasets for data exploration. Some require preprocessing of information, so they can conduct analyses, e.g., based on tweeter type or content topic. General societies are interested in the overall descriptions of events. However, few systems, tools, or methods exist to support the flexible use of event-related collections. Accordingly, we describe our new framework and integrated system to process and analyze event-related collections. It provides varied services and covers the most important stages in a system pipeline. It has sub-systems to clean, manage, analyze, integrate, and visualize event-related collections. It takes an event-related tweet collection as input and generates an event-related webpage corpus by leveraging Wikipedia and the URLs embedded in tweets. It also combines and enriches original tweets with webpages. As an application of data management, we conduct an empirical study of tweets and their embedded URLs. We developed TwiRole for 3-way user classification on Twitter. It detects brand-related, female-related, and male-related tweeters through their profiles, tweets, and images. To aid user-centered social research, we combine TwiRole with an existing emotion detection tool, and carry out tweeting pattern analyses on disaster-related collections. Finally, we propose a tweet-guided multi-document summarization (TMDS) model and service, which generates summaries of the event-related collections by using tweets associated with those events. It extracts important sentences across different topics from webpages, and organizes them in proper order. The entire system is realized using many technologies, such as collection development, natural language processing, machine learning, and deep learning. For each part, comprehensive evaluations help confirm the effectiveness and accuracy of our proposed approaches. Regarding broader impact, our methods and system can be easily adopted or extended for further event analyses and service development.

Abstract:
With the development of the cloud computing technique, users enjoy various benefits that high technology services bring. However, there are more and more cloud service programs emerging. So it is important for users to choose the right cloud service. For cloud service providers, it is also important to improve the cloud services they provide, in order to get more customers and expand the scale of their cloud services.Rough set theory is a good data processing tool to deal with uncertain information. It can mine the hidden knowledge or rules on data sets. The main purpose of this thesis is to apply rough set theory to help cloud users make decision about cloud services. In this work, firstly, a framework using the rough set theory in cloud service selection is proposed, and we give an example using rough set in cloud services selection to illustrate and analyze the feasibility of our approach. Secondly, the proposed cloud services selection approach has been used to evaluate parameters importance based on the users’ preferences. Finally, we perform experiments on large scale dataset to verity the feasibility of our proposal. The performance results can help cloud service users to make the right decision and help cloud service providers to target the improvement about their cloud services

Abstract:
Research on service compensation is rare. In this article we examine different compensation rules for integrated services (IS) which are produced jointly by a service provider and his client. Examples are consulting, advertising or management training. We distinguish three different compensation rules and compare them with joint profit maximization where both, service provider and client act as one organizational unit. The ompensation rules are (1) the input based compensation (IBC) characterized by a compensation that is based on work hours or work days, (2) the sales based compensation (SBC) with the compensation based on client’s sales and (3) the profit based compensation (PBC) with compensation based on client’s profits. We can show that under reasonable, realistic conditions the IBC (surprisingly) leads to better results for the service provider and for the client as compared to the PBC and the SBC.

Abstract:
The faith in financial reporting quality and the corresponding auditing process has suffered a lot within the last decade, due to significant accounting scandals (e.g. Enron, WorldCom, Parmalat, etc.). As an answer to these accounting scandals, the law-makers in Germany and the European Union, respectively, have strengthened audit regulations in order to improve the quality of the conducted audits. The aim of this cumulative dissertation is to provide empirical evidence on the effects of intended and already implemented regulative audit requirements in Germany. ln order to consider the wide range of different audit requirements, the dissertation is based on four different study manuscripts, highlighting various perspectives with regard to the appointment, duration, and remuneration of a statutory auditor in the German audit environment. Besides the empirical evidence for separate auditing issues, this dissertation is also aimed to provide a solid theoretical background and critical suggestions for future research.

Each European Union state member performs analysis on certain projects possible impacts on the environment through the instrument of Environmental Impact Assessment. This procedure has been implemented on each member state level, being altered and improved e several occasions, finding itself under constant evolution. The content of that assessment verified in the correspondent documents of the EIA, specifically in the Environmental Impact Statement, appear to be somewhat subjective, being that the description of the affected environmental resources by the project implementation under that procedure is presented with a certain level of abstraction. This work looks forward to present ways to enhance the objectivity and consequently the clearness of those Environmental Impact Assessments, focusing mainly on demonstrate the valuation the environmental resources affected by the Environmental Impact Assessment project, allowing a better comprehension by the stakeholders about the real value of the pre-existent resources in the area of the project. The great problematic directly linked to the resources valuation is centred in the easy monetary value attribution whenever a resources has a market price counter pointing the remaining non-marketed resources. Such approach involves the adoption of a classification system of ecosystem goods and services, particularly in this case the Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services that comprises the environmental resources considered in the Environmental Impact Assessments Finally the application of the Common International Classification of Ecosystem Services approach integrated in the Environmental Impact Assessment is demonstrated and the valuation of the environmental resources is performed through the benefit transfer method serving as example for the potentiality of this procedure

Abstract:
Despite the fact that knowledge management (KM) challenges cannot be solved by installing a technical system alone, technical support for KM initiatives is still an important issue and nowadays requires handling of context, intelligent content analysis and extended collaboration support. Since information systems have significantly improved in the last ten years with regards to implementing Web 2.0 features and semantic content analysis, knowledge workers can expect better support from IT than ever. After the human-oriented, technology-oriented (documents), process-riented and social KM phases, KM support now needs integration of those beneficial technologies instead of hyping one and neglecting the other. The true nature and potential of social media does only manifest when people incorporate them into their day-to-day work routines or even "live" the social media idea. The same is true for business process management (BPM). If BPM tools are not integrated into the existing, well-known information systems, acceptance will be low. Practice shows, that employees often do not even know in which process they are currently working.

Abstract:
Teleworking is the key to a more flexible design of working time and places of work. To reach the flexibility for working anywhere and anytime a virtual working environment is needed which is reached from any place having a browser and internet access, at home, on the road or in the office. The goal of our activities is to develop a set of technologies fitting in the web architecture in order to bring teleworking applications to their full potential. Our new concept is to combine different web services in a new integrated man-machine environment that enables access to all necessary services. So it will be easier for the teleworker to handle the different applications and techniques. The teleworking portal provides them access to various resources: office applications, multimedia objects and documents, communication tools such as email and conferences, collaboration and group work systems or educational software and training tools. In order to promote interoperability and extensibility among these applications, as well as to allow them to be combined to perform more complex operations, a standard reference architecture for such services is needed. Consequently our approach is based on the Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) and the web service technology

Cook, Elaine K. "Nursing Outcomes Classification: a cross-link to assign nursing home recertification survey severity scores." Diss., University of Iowa, 2012. https://ir.uiowa.edu/etd/2465.

Full text
Abstract:
In 2009, the Government Accountability Office reported that 15% of federal nursing home (NH) recertification surveys nationwide and 25% of surveys in nine states underscored serious deficiencies in nursing care provided to 1.5 million residents residing in NHs. The state nursing home survey agencies' surveyors attributed the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) administrative rules and the documents in the surveyor guidance manual as too complex and ambiguous to correctly assign deficiency severity scores. In review of nursing literature, it was noted that standardized nursing language can increase the clarity of complex systems. The premise of this exploratory study was to determine if the standardized language of the Nursing Outcomes Classification (NOC) could provide a cross-linkage of the CMS rules, indicators of substandard nursing care, and the full guidance manual used to assign deficiency severity scores. The study attempted to achieve this goal by aligning select NOC outcomes and indicators with nursing outcomes indicators in the CMS administrative rules, select documents in the surveyor guidance manual and select documents in the Quality Indicator Survey. The data analysis suggested the relationship of the origin of the CMS rule and documents to the degree of alignment with the select NOC outcomes and indicators. It was also found that the intent of the CMS rule and select documents shared common themes. In addition, the data analysis revealed that the CMS rule and select documents aligned in various degrees with all of the selected NOC outcomes and respective indicators. The data analysis confirmed that there is sufficient evidence of a degree of alignment of select NOCs with the CMS rule and documents in the guidance manual for activities of daily living and functional status. Furthermore, the data analysis confirmed that this body of work can be a baseline for future research to develop an NOC specific to NHs as a viable cross-link to the CMS rules and guidance manual.

To help librarians understand the impact of emerging technologies on participatory service building, this study takes social media as an example to explore how to use different engagement strategies that social media provides to engage more users. This research provides three major contributions to the library system. The libraries can use the resultant engagement strategies to engage its users. Additionally, the best-fit strategy can be inferred and designed based on users' preferences. Lastly, the users' preferences can be understood based on data analysis of social media. Three such contributions have been put together to fully address the proposed question.

Abstract:
Software support for the generation of good Braille has historically been hampered by fragmented and small markets. Some languages have good commercial support, others are lacking. Fortunately Liblouis, an open source tool for complete Braille transcription services, is emerging as a universal solution. Liblouis provides Braille translation for literary and computer Braille, offers support for contracted and uncontracted translation for many languages and includes support for Braille mathematics codes such as Nemeth. Liblouis also provides Braille formatting, which can handle many document formats including DTBook XML. Both the translation and the formatting can easily be adapted to new languages and document formats. This paper shows how Liblouis will be used at the Swiss Library for the Blind and Visually Impaired to integrate Braille generation into a production workflow based around DTBook XML.

Potts, James A. "Description, Classification, and Prediction of Dengue Illnesses in a Thai Pediatric Cohort: A Dissertation." eScholarship@UMMS, 2010. https://escholarship.umassmed.edu/gsbs_diss/465.

Full text
Abstract:
Dengue fever (DF) and dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) are emerging infectious diseases which are endemic in many regions of the globe, many of which are resource-poor areas. DHF and DF impose a severe economic health burden in tropical and subtropical areas. Dengue virus causes an acute febrile illness that can be a self-limited febrile illness, as seen in most cases of DF, or a life-threatening illness with plasma leakage and shock, as seen in cases of DHF. A systematic review of the literature revealed gaps in the knowledge base of clinical laboratory findings of dengue illness with regards to longitudinal dynamics and classification and predictive modeling of disease severity. The objective of this thesis was to investigate the utility of clinical laboratory variables for classification and prediction of disease outcomes. The data used in this investigation was derived from a prospective study of Thai children presenting to either of two study hospitals within 72 hours of onset of an acute febrile illness. Systematic data collection, including clinical laboratory parameters, and routine clinical management continued each day until 24 hours after the fever had subsided. A final diagnosis of DHF, DF, or other febrile illness (OFI) was assigned by an expert physician after chart review. The first research objective of this study was to describe the temporal dynamics of clinical laboratory parameters among subjects with DHF, DF, or OFI. Data were analyzed using lowess curves and population-average models. Quadratic functions of clinical variables over time were established and demonstrated significantly divergent patterns between the various diagnostic groups. The second research objective was to establish and validate tools for classification of illness severity using easily obtained clinical laboratory measures. Bivariate logistic regression models were established using data from one hospital in an urban area of Thailand as a training data set and validated with a second data set from a hospital in a rural area of Thailand. The validated models maintained a high sensitivity and specificity in distinguishing severe dengue illnesses without using the hallmark indicators of plasma leakage. The third research objective used classification and regression tree (CART) analysis to established diagnostic decisions trees using data obtained on the day of study enrollment, within the first 3 days of acute illness. Decision trees with high sensitivity were established for severe dengue defined either as: 1) DHF with evidence of shock (dengue shock syndrome, DSS); or 2) DSS or dengue with significant pleural effusion. This study expands existing knowledge of the potential utility of clinical laboratory variables during different phases of dengue illness. The application of the results of these studies should lead to promising opportunities in the fields of epidemiological research and disease surveillance to reduce the health burden, and improve the clinical management, of dengue illness. Future directions involve application of these algorithms to different study populations and age groups. Additionally, other analytical techniques, such as those involving CART analysis, can be explored with these data.

Abstract:

Within a context of global integration, the issue of geographic concentration of economic activities has gained significant importance in recent years in the strategy literature. In the case of service activities, location is key aspect of corporate competitive advantage. However, geographic clustering is not much explored in the literature, especially in Brazil. Furthermore, the studies are based on classification criteria do not reflect the diversity of the sector as well as interaction with the activities of this industry. Therefore, the objective of this work was to map the location of service activities in Brazil in a systematic way, based on a proposed classification of services, according to the economic process to which they relate. Thus, the main contribution of this work is methodological we propose a model for the classification of settlements according to the categories of pure service, processing and exchange and circulation. We identified a total of 12.201clusters of services: the majority (60%) refers to the rank of pure service, followed by service category and traffic exchange with (27%), with processing and services (13%) . From the perspective of macro-regions, the Southeast has the largest representation, with a total of 5.287 clusters, representing 43% of all settlements. In this region, the three categories of service have significant involvement, in contrast to other regions, which confirms the high degree of development of the region's economic base, which explains the strength of this region, since the higher the composition of sectors, the greater the local economy. In this sense, the main findings of this study explain the economic strength of service activities in the southeast of the country, especially in large urban centers like Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, between the counties that contain a higher concentration of service activities , especially in regard to knowledge intensive activities and financial services.

Abstract:
Mental models are an important theme within information systems. They show how people understand reality, make decisions and how the information flows in order for them to do so. It is particularly challenging to make such decisions when it comes to determining the health of someone, making it a particularly delicate matter. In that context, this thesis takes BetterDoc as object of study. It is an organization situated in Cologne, Germany, with an increasingly positive record of providing remote healthcare services and allowing patients to have the adequate treatment for their condition. The study was based on the theory of mental models to bring to light the implicit patterns present in making decision in that context. That was done by conducting qualitative interviews with the staff of the organization, across different teams, and synthetizing the findings in a common model that shows points of decision and the supporting information. Those findings are useful for identifying points that need to be structured to provide clarity and understanding, increasing the synergy and transparence of a socio-technical system that can influences the outcomes of healthcare for many people.

Abstract:
The rollout of electric vehicles (EV) occurring in parallel with the decarbonisation of the power sector can bring uncontested environmental benefits, in terms of CO2 emission reduction and air quality. This roll out, however, poses challenges to power systems, as additional power demand is injected in context of increasingly volatile supply from renewable energy sources. Smart EV charging services can provide a solution to such challenges. The development of effective smart charging services requires evaluating pre-emptively EV drivers’ response. The current practice in the appraisal of smart charging strategies largely relies on simplistic or theoretical representation of drivers’ charging and travel behaviour. We propose a random utility model for joint EV drivers’ activity-travel scheduling and charging choices. Our model easily integrates in activity-based demand modelling systems for the analyses of integrated transport and energy systems. However, unlike previous charging behaviour models used in integrated transport and energy system analyses, our model empirically captures the behavioural nuances of tactical charging choices in smart grid context, using empirically estimated charging preferences. We present model estimation results that provide insights into the value placed by individuals on the main attributes of the charging choice and draw implications charging service providers

Abstract:
With the development of technology and information, there are more and more opportunities and challenges for healthcare and assistance services for disabled people as well as the elderly. In this context, this PhD work proposes and demonstrates a new solution for home monitoring. Our approach is based on the idea that existing home automation and multimedia services provide some relevant information to be used as available sensors for remote monitoring. Through the analysis of user habits, our work includes two steps. In the first step, we automate a scenario identification, based on a combination of data mining, AI, graph theory and operational research algorithms to offer scenarios self adapting to user capabilities, while facilitating user access to the services. In the second step, this sensor information is used for alert management based on the anomaly detection, meaning a deviation of usual habits. These two steps provide a low level and non-intrusive personal monitoring while giving people more autonomy and confidence in their environments. A simulation model is developed in a first stage for the generation of user database without waiting for months monitoring user activities. This simulation data allows us to develop, tune and evaluate different aspects of our approach, before being applied in a real context. Then an experimentation through the IR recording is realized to monitor the user activities. The results of these real data allow us to evaluate the performance as well as the efficiency of our solution

Abstract:

Abstract:
This handbook was developed within the project ' Vernetztes Forschungsdatenmanagement an Hochschulen für angewandte Wissenschaften am Beispiel der HTW Dresden – FoDaMa-HTWD '. It is a short and clear summary of the most important findings, which were gained during the project at the University of Applied Sciences Dresden (HTWD) on research data management (FDM). With this handbook, the authors would like to support other Universities of Applied Sciences (HAW) in developing strategies and the necessary FDM structure. It is therefore primarily aimed at people who are involved in the strategic development of research at universities and who may ask themselves the question of which supporting FDM services and measures should be taken to ensure that the researchers of their own institution are able to meet the increasing demand for open and sustainable working methods in dealing with research data.

Abstract:
This thesis evaluated the new law since 2015 of the support services by Japanese Juvenile Classification Home (JCH) which is a detention facility for juveniles. The support services by the JCHs is providing psychological and educational individualized support who are facing crime-related or deliquency-related problems based on the requests from any individuals and organizations in community. It is based on the classification for the support services in the former law. This study also examined the role of population density among three categories of large, medium-sized, and small prefectures. The relationship between delinquent rates and support services for the juvenile population three years of before and after the new law among the three geographic categories was examined. Delinquent outcome rates significantly decreased among the geographic categories. By contrast, support services by the JCH rates significantly increased among all three geographic categories. Small and medium-sized had more the classification for support services and support services than large prefectures; their support services rate were higher than delinquent rates. With regard to common services, workshop (providing lecture or workshop to the group of people) was most major, institutional counseling (providing individualized services based on the request of organizations) was second, case conference (attending case conference of other organizations), and individual counseling(providing individualized services based on the request or individuals) was third. Most of these four types of services were provided more in small and medium-sized prefectures than large prefectures. The results supported the richness in social capital in small and medium-sized prefectures. Though this study did not examine the effects of support services by the JCH, but it suggested the needs in the community has been increased. Considering the basic characteristics of the support services, it could meet the Risk-Needs-Responsivity principle, but further information about the clients’ basic demographic, risk level, criminological needs and their responsivity is needed in the future.

Abstract:
Customer overall satisfaction towards a public transport system depends mainly on two factors: how satisfied they are with different aspects that make up the service and how important each of the service aspects is to the customer. Traditionally, researchers use revealed preference surveys and ordered probit/logit models to estimate the contribution of each service attribute towards the overall satisfaction. This paper aims to verify the possibility of replacing the traditional method with the more cost-effective best-worst case 1 method, using a customer survey recently conducted in Santander, Spain. The results show that the satisfaction level obtained from these alternative methods are remarkably similar. The relative importance of each attribute delivered by the two methods differ, with the Best-Worst approach showing more intuitive and consistent results with the literature on public transport customer satisfaction. A regression method is developed to derive customer satisfaction with each service attribute from Best-Worst modelling results.
