AbstractItaly and Greece have been often blamed by their fellow EU Member States for the excessive permeability of their borders, their inability to stop irregular migration, and their inefficient asylum systems. In addition the two countries have weak internal controls, especially as regards the sectors of the labour market where immigrants are usually employed e.g. agriculture, domestic work, tourism and catering. Abstract:
Most management models draw on a mechanical view of organizational action, in which outcomes are given a prominent role, at the detriment of persons. These are generally viewed as instruments serving action and its objectives. As a result work is increasingly losing sense for a number of employees whatever their hierarchical position. Ill-being at work is developing to the extent than managing so-called ‘psychosocial risks’ has become a new branch of human resource management. Simultaneously meaninglessness hinders creativity at work and beyond, performance. Mechanical management is thus detri

In case of a major oil spill, many countries will have to rely on volunteers, or, at, least, to cope with a significant flood of citizens willing to help. While some States will use these volunteers only for logistical tasks such as preparing and serving meals or secretarial tasks, others will orientate them towards NGOs in charge of wildlife rehabilitation, and others involve them directly in shoreline cleanup operations. Hence the necessity to train potential volunteers in advance, register them in a database, and create a network that can be activated in case of an accident. The project for

We consider a problem in which a single server must serve a stream of customers whose arrivals are distributed over a finite-size convex space. Under the assumption that the server has full information on the customer location, obvious service policies are the FCFS and the greedy (serve-the-closest-customer) approaches. These algorithms are, however, either inefficient (FCFS) or ‘unfair' (greedy). We propose and study two alternative algorithms, the gated-greedy policy and the gated-scan policy, which are more ‘fair' than the pure greedy method. Purpose This paper aims to present results from a research that analyzed consumer perceptions of service quality in restaurants in four European cities – Belgrade (Serbia), Manchester (UK), Thessaloniki (Greece) and Porto (Portugal). Design/methodology/approach A total of 802 respondents have been interviewed using a structured questionnaire. The service quality statements covered food quality, building exterior, restaurant interior and layout, seating comfort, restrooms and servicing. Education service quality, even though it has become a major issue in higher education worldwide, in Greece it has gained attention only in the last few years. The paper analyzes how students and staff shape opinion about quality of education in a HE institute in Greece. This is one of the few analyses of the perceptions about quality of educational services, viewed both by students and staff of Higher Education Institute in Greece. The study uses the SERVQUAL instrument, adjusted in the educational context. It finds the gaps within students’ and staff's attitudes and reveals possible differen
